Anthony Bryan, Owner of the BarbadosAdvocate

The most STUPID COWARD of the year goes to Anthony Byran owner of the Barbados Advocate newspaper.ย  That newspaper should be shut down. Imagine he has refused to take money from a Nigerian Barbadian living here since 1994. Mr Adesegha Omobamidele wanted to advertise for an African cook for his restaurant. He couldn’t find any so he wants to apply for a work permit and by law he has to state that publicly in the media. The Nation accepted his ad and he went over to the Advocate to place an ad. He Bryan told him thatย  ” he did not want to me in there and that he did not want his money because of what is happening in Africa.”ย  Mr Omobamidele asked him what did he mean? Ebola or war? Mr Bryant the IDIOTย  replied “everything”.

Mr Bryan went onto say that he didn’t care which part of Africa has Ebola, Africa is Africaย  and that he owned the newspaperย  and that he can decide if to take his money or not.ย  Mr Idiot Bryan gave his reasons for refusing to place an ad from this customer, “It is disrespectful of him to want to open a restaurant here and bring in a cook from Africa. I told him straight I don’t want his money and I don’t want anything to do with him. I feel bad for Barbados that he is advertising for a cook from Africa. He is being disrespectfulย  to us.ย  I told him not in my paper, he can go to immigration and get an ad.ย  I don’t want that kind of money”ย  Mr Bryan told the Nation that “there could be a major issue in handling money with the deadly Ebola virus spreading“.

Adesegha Omobamidele
Adesegha Omobamidele

Yes Mr Bryan the customer got the money from the bank in Barbados and it could spread the Ebola virus by someone whose father is Nigerian and mother Barbadian who has been living here since 1994. If you are so concerned about this then SHUT DOWN YOUR Newspaper! I won’t ever be buying another newspaper from you.ย  I have NEVER read such utter rubbish coming from someone who supposed to know better. You are shameless and so STUPID that you are an EMBARRASSMENT to the HUMAN RACE!

This newspaper should be boycotted immediately.

  1. Wait…people still read the Advocate?

  2. Two questions for Mr. Adesegha Omobamidele.

Why not advertise in Barbados Today and forget the Barbados Advocate?

Why commit resources to establishing the restaurant before firming up the position of African cook? Suppose the work permit is not approves and if it is suppose it take a looooong time?

  3. “The most STUPID COWARD of the year goes to Anthony Byran owner of the Barbados Advocate newspaper.” I could not have said it any better.

I had to deal with this piece or drivel for a few years, this man is such an @$$hole its not even funny, he cannot decide or dictate who comes to Barbados, we have PEOPLE who will decide that, you own a newspaper so run that and while on that topic let it be known more than 50% of his staff over the years have left and gone to the Nation newspaper or elsewhere. Yes you own BBS radio station, chairman of many other broads but all that money won’t give you brain to think.

STUPID MAN, what a total waste.

  4. @Barry

If he is so stupid how come he is obviously a rich man and the politicians on the government side are peering up his rear end?

  5. Mr. Adesegha Omobamidele don’t feel too bad you are not the only restaurant who don’t advertise with that newspaper, Chefette has vowed NEVER to place an ad in that paper a few years ago and to this day they are sticking to their word, he also offended them too. That paper is NOT making money from ads, it’s making money from paper sales ONLY.

He is so selfish that unlike any company losing sales for example LIME who is trying hard to “WIN BACK” customers he would rather let that paper go down instead of re-branding, refocus, upgrade or whatever, all those employees who are stuck there because of bills and mortgages my heart goes out to you.

  6. @David
“If he is so stupid how come he is obviously a rich man and the politicians on the government side are peering up his rear end?”

Allan Stanford, Bernie Madoff and alot more had politicians peering up their rear end too, when you have money everyone smiles with you, when I was benefiting from his money I was smiling and allowing him to feel like he is so smart but we all knew he’s just an @ss.

  7. aint he got a pretty red skin gal dat works at de radio station too?

  8. @ GEORGIE PORGIE u serious…hahahahaha yes and she look real good too and of course every woman he can get he hand on in that newspaper who work for he, one woman cried to me cause he pressure de woman fuh some pu$$y.

  9. wasnt he horning he wife wid she for bout 25 years at least?
you talking bout a woman in she 60;s right?

Mr. Adesegha Omobamidele should not be too โ€˜put outโ€™ (and certainly out of pocket) by Bryan’s racist xenophobic behaviour and literally myopic attitude.
With the possible spread of the Ebola virus to the Caribbean the chances of his African cook (most likely from Nigeria) being given a work permit are as high as the Bajan authorities finding the money to buy spacesuits and other PPE for all hospital and health sector workers.

Unless of course the cook is already here and his black restaurant is just being put through the formal ropes of frustration as his bribe (note bribe and not bride) is not up to mark.

Come on Mr. Omobamidele, you know how these sorts of things work in your native land. Things go the same way โ€˜greasy-palmโ€™ way in Bim even if in a more overtly sophisticated fashion.
Raise the ante and see how high the work permit mare would fly, Ebola or no Ebola.

  11. this got to be a joke,,, i don;t know who is the dumbest, of the two, o>K fear and paranoia can be excused,, but what is this business man thinking when he advertise for an African cook….. brave or dumb!,how many bajans would even bother to support his business knowing that his cook was from Africa and Africa is the breeding ground for EBola, can;t see the hypocrite isgal stepping up to the plate to support his business knowing the orgins of the cook.. uh think so,,then ac have the cure for Ebola.. Duh too many hypocrites,

  12. @GEORGIE PORGIE “wasnt he horning he wife wid she for bout 25 years at least?” it don’t matter now wifey dead and gone.

  13. It is difficult to believe a commitment to establish the restaurant would have been made not knowing the procedure to recruit an authentic African chef in advance. It is not so much what Bryan has done but the uncouth manner he did it. It is company and he can refuse the business if he wants. No doubt he received sound legal advice from his son.

  14. @ ac….so you saying to everyone that reading this blog that a cook coming from a continent know as Africa is going to get on a plane with Ebola and infect people in Barbados, hmmm…more millionaires and billionaires than all the Caribbean combined, better hospitals than Barbados can ever dream of, ac i don’t blame your ignorance i blame CNN and all the other cable networks you watch, you must remember you are saying what what white people say about us daily, this Ebloa thing will just be another reason why the world should hate black people even more.

  15. “No doubt he received sound legal advice from his son”….Trust me David, that will NEVER happen.

This man does what he feels like doing. Yes he has the right to refuse an ad but the reason is just dumb. He is also a racist and makes all female employees were wigs or straight hair no natural hair in his place so the fact he refuse that ad is no surprise to his staff or people that know him personally

I would like to say alot more but I can’t im abit to close to the cookie jar.

  16. Is it true he has a closet full of suits for the reporters (females) to wear?

  17. The library of pictures is the oldest in Barbados. When he took over the advocate he closed access to the pictures by the general public. Oh dear

  18. “Is it true he has a closet full of suits for the reporters (females) to wear?.”

Let me put it this way if you work for him you will be treated “good” but that treatment comes with his terms and conditions, they are a few perks but kissing his @$$ daily for those perks can become very tiring.

  19. I think is was Grovesnor that refused to trim the dimensions of the Advocate back in the day and allowed the “tabloid” sized Nation to take a command hold of the market. A “newspaper” that had to be folded in order to be delivered was considered to be a rear newspaper. Poor Hoyos could do nothing to close the gap once the Nation took to the front

  21. The library of pictures is the oldest in Barbados. When he took over the advocate he closed access to the pictures by the general public. Oh dear

He did that because he could.

He once said to us he don’t care bout nobody “I have enough money to dead and come back to life and still got more money that anyone bout here”…And we had to laugh.

  22. Let me put it this way if you work for him you will be treated โ€œgoodโ€ but that treatment comes with his terms and conditions,

NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY IN THE LATE 80’S MISS W WOULD GET IRRITATED IF EVEN CHILD HOOD MALE FRIENDS CALLED HER AT THE STATION OR TURNED UP AT THE GARRISON “UN-ANNOUNCED” SAD

  23. How does a jack ass like that come into to so much wealth ..?

  24. @BAFBFP

Understand if you were to visit the Archives Room tears would ”wellup” in your eyes. Old newspapers strewn over the floor, rat infestation etc. What a tragedy.

  25. “How does a jack ass like that come into to so much wealth ..?”
Funny you should ask that, I tried to find that out but I gave up trying.

  26. The post is being made an excuse to attack Bryan’s character generally. I’ve no doubt this is justified – many of us may have tales to tell – but on the issue here – sorry, it’s his paper, his call, and he must take the consequences of decisions like this. From one perspective – his- he’s performing a public service.

  27. “Understand if you were to visit the Archives Room tears would โ€wellupโ€ in your eyes. Old newspapers strewn over the floor, rat infestation etc. What a tragedy.”

Don’t insult that man place, he has a gun and lets everyone in there know it, sometimes he would carry it in his pants pocket just for show….yes I said pants pocket although he has it around his ankle everyday, (yes I use to check) I think this was his way to intimidate some employees especially the females ones not to mention he has a bunch of enemies so don’t insult his place he has three maids who clean with care…lol.

  28. @ robert ross….”The post is being made an excuse to attack Bryanโ€™s character”
What character do you mean my friend, go work for him for 2 weeks or better yet ask past or present employees about “his character” I will forgive you when you change your tune.
Females can’t get pregnant and work for him after, the man sees that as an insult to him so please don’t insult people with character.

  29. Is he not a rather inarticulate buffoon?

  30. Look Barry all that ac is saying that those who are being highly critical of the Bryan’s decision would NOT support the owner restaurant if he had a cook brought in from Africa at this time especially coming from a country that is the breeding ground for Ebola, no sense in pretending. , but that is the truth, Get it plain and simple, judging by the comments others seem more interested in Bryans personal life another way of avoiding gist of the story

  31. The Advocate must have some utility because the government has co-opted it as a channel to disseminate its message.

  32. We should BAN ALL TRAVELLERS FROM WEST AFRICA WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT UNTILL THE VIRUS IS UNDER CONTROL!

  33. @ ac…now that you put that is perspective I can live with that but I still stand by my comments, HE CANNOT DECIDE who comes to Barbados.
Africans live all over the world don’t mean the cook will come from Africa. I can request an Indian to make my curry roti in my business, they can come from India, Guyana or Trinidad, this xenophobic crap has got to stop and we as black people should know this better than any other race.

This mentally has our queens walking around with dead nasty hair on the crown of their heads daily only Cinderella believed when she wore a shoe she became beautiful and the same goes for our queens and that nasty hair, I hate to go off topic but shit man…

  34. Travel bans are not being recommended by the real ‘experts’. Professor Goslin from Washington contends they will be conter-productive. Will inflict additional hardship on already vulnerable populations. Aid workers need to be going in and out. We live in a globalized world and there are Bajans, CAribbean people, who have a right to come home.

  35. “We should BAN ALL TRAVELLERS FROM WEST AFRICA WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT UNTILL THE VIRUS IS UNDER CONTROL!”

You ever asked yourself why all these “BIG” diseases start in Africa?

So that people like you can say what you said, is HIV under control? is there a cure?, Which country did you hear had it first? it would please me more if you said what are we doing doing to cure it, I know that sounds big but we don’t think big anyhow, but if you did just a little search you will see people are effectively being treated by black people for Ebola in Africa, it won’t make headline news because black people doing the treating for the Ebola.

I know my words will go through your ears until the man in the white suit tells you about his “cure.”

  36. The Prime Minister of St Lucia has just put a ban on visitors to the island from certain parts of Africa until further notice. At least St Lucia has Prime Minister with a mouth who can speak AND take action to protect his country and his people. Oh how I wish we had one also. Suppose a local night club owned by white Barbadians refused entry to a black Barbadian “Because I own it and can do business with whom I please”, would that be acceptable?

  37. @ FearPlay…. that would not be acceptable but it won’t be illegal either, their are no real discrimination laws in Barbados, just a few women keeping noise about sexual harassment in the work place that’s about it, hence why this man was not allowed to place an ad and given the reason he got, in a country with such laws bryan would have to pull his pockets for making that statement.

  38. Barry

Be a good fella and READ what I wrote. As I said, we may all have stories but that’s NOT the issue.

  39. Today in Ottawa I was at the Tim Hortons and a old man came in for coffee but chose to wait in another line rather than have the black girl help him right away .never seen that before but I am sure this is just the start of it unless they get a handle on ebola this isn’t racism this is the times were in.
More often than not most people on this blog harken back to their African roots , are proud of their heritage and never fail to show it. So I agree with the owner it is insulting to the people that they would go outside for a “chef” to cook food that I am sure many Barbadians are acquainted with.
Money is one of the worst carriers of disease, and hard not to except.
This guy may be a prick, arrogant and downright awful but don’t get sidetracked by that, the optics of going to Africa at this time to get employees is just wrong when people are on edge as it is .

  40. Who said this man was going to Africa to get an African Chef? There are many Africans living abroad, in the UK, the USA, Canada. Stupse. Lawson like yuh ketching something .

  41. Lets cut to the chase …there must be somebody on the island than can cook monkey ass and bat stew

  42. Lawson yuh really ketch some stupidity BIG TIME!

  43. Lawson be careful they don’t cook yuh rass!

  44. @Lawson

  45. So David you are saying you have to go abroad to be able to find a competent cook in Barbados, even that owner put bajans first.
But you are right I am ignorant I cant tell a bantu from a Zulu from a matabele, and even gets worse with the ebola going around I don’t know if I am talking to a sickly Liberian or a healthy somali

  46. @Islandgal

You took the words out of my mouth. I saw lots in Jamaica and I understand there are plenty in Trinidad too.

He hiding the truth as well as the old main library also hiding the history of Barbados , What are they hiding and not talking about as today’s events we are living , day to day, Pictures ,what or who will they show?

  50. Pat bingo,,,say something long enough and many will believe it,, the business owner, “If” he is one should understand the staple in commercialism is positivity,,any negative presentation attached to the product drives customers away, in this case fear being the deciding factor whether the african employee is from the congo or living in the Himalayas there is a stigma of fear connecting the ebola to all africans which was openly played out between mr Bryan and the restaurant owner
