In a time of universal deceit – telling the truth is a revolutionary act  – George Orwell

If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truthJoseph Goebbels

All warfare is based on deceptionSun Tzu

Our central point of departure rests on the truism that we live within a tapestry of lies. But when it comes to Geo-politics, the theory of the big lie was always necessary in the maintenance of empire. Notwithstanding this centuries old adage, the big lie remains a potent weapon in the quiver of the powers as they seek to conduct war, by any means necessary, against their foes. In recent years we’ve had big lies serving to instigate illegal wars against Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Gaza, Yugoslavia and others. However, the recent war propaganda against Putin’s Russia take the big lie to new and staggering levels of acceptability. Indeed, the very existence of the Anglo-American Empire has come to rest on the acceptance of these big lies as truisms.

We have never been persuaded that any country commands any high level of innocence. Indeed, we see countries as impersonal entities without any enduring friendships but with perennial interests. These national interests guide countries and blocks as they tussle for advantage and ascendancy. In this pursuit countries may try a combination of diplomacy, politics and other cultural and economic levers to change the balance of power, gain strategic advantage. In the event where there is a failure, militarism, including sanctions, maybe employed by belligerents to achieve, through violence, that which could not be so done by ‘peaceful’ means.

In the case of Russia the big lie theory has proven to be a worthy and reliable stand-in for logic and reason. It was Goebbels who argued that given control of media, it was easy to determined what the population believed. And the populations of the world is largely under the control of this Goebbels injunction. In the propaganda war on Russia such a global propaganda ministry has trotted out a number of baldfaced lies to violently overthrow the government of Ukraine as a sovereign state and then proceeded to institute a coup government made up of neo-Nazi elements while blaming Russia for the ‘mistakes’ of the West. This is the nature of war – the big lie style. The government they established was to be a mere servant of colonialism, to create confusion on Russia’s borders and was aimed at breaking up Ukraine in the interests of long-run destabilization that could spill over into Russia itself. This is only the most recent in the American led NATO expansion eastward in violation of promises made to Gorbachev. They miscalculated Russia was never to become a competitor for dominance, challenging the USD and realigning countries against empire.

In the case of Crimea there were many lies told by the West, and a few by Russia too. It was once said that when a lie gets a head start on the truth, the truth will never catch up. Sometimes a lie can defeat another lie, but not always. However, in the case of eastern Ukraine – Kharkov, Luhansk and Donetsk – east of the Dnieper River – no effort has been spared in the West in the magnitude of big lies told to achieve their hideous objectives. Lies so pervasive that they represent truth for most. Some narratives about Ukraine are totally informed by lies. Big lies mouthed over and over again in all media especially network television, global newspapers of record and mindless stenographers for empire like the Nation Newspaper in Barbados. But the lies are not working anymore, we had wondered how many times must the West peddle lies to get us into war and we like sheeple meekly comply. The end to the effectiveness of Western lies surely signals the end of their reign as well, no?

The most recent big lie was that Russian troops has invaded eastern Ukraine. The people of the world are not to know that most of the military equipment of Ukraine comes from Russia. So we are shown convoys of Russian military vehicle and told that there is an invasion. And we have these ‘babes’ on television forming our opinions absent of other possible explanations. Could these vehicles not to under the control of Ukrainians troops? Could there not be captured vehicles from the regime in Kiev? Could this parade not be part of an exercise that happened sometime ago? Could there not be an alternative explanation? This narrative is absent of a realistic understanding of the military might of Russia, its recent involvements, etc. We suggest, given the military might of Russia that should Putin have made to decision to invade Ukraine, Kiev itself would have fallen months ago and there would not be one darn thing the West (NATO) could have done, except stupid talk about self defeating sanctions.

Indeed, Orlov has argued that should Russia have invaded Ukraine, Ukrainian artillery would have fell silent immediately; the appearance of the war theater would have changed immediately; the Ukrainian military would have instantly vanished; Russian checkpoints would be everywhere; Ukrainian border crossings would have been under the control of Russia; a no-fly zone would have been established over all of Ukrainian skies; the Western puppets like Poroskeno would not be available to media; 800 thousand Ukrainians currently in Russia would be going back home; there would have been an intensification of diplomatic and military  activity around the world; the surrender of Kiev. None of these are happening or have happened. On the contrary Russian has taken significant actions to de-escalate a possible and wider confrontation with the West. These include the reversal of a law giving Putin the power to declare war, and others. None of this will help the situation when America and its European colonies are fighting for imperial survival. A war is necessary! A war the American want others to fight for it. On the other hand the Americans intend on the push for an extended dominance by lying to the Europeans about their ability to supply them with alternative energy resources and compromising their dependence on Russian gas. So Europe is to pay the price for empire!

Before this most recent spectacular series of lies there was the PNAC-like national security event of Malaysian flight MH17. The liars in Washington seem still convinced that airplane crashes have the ability to solicit irrational and emotional calls for war from the American people. Again there were a number of big lies surrounding this event which failed to stick so they were soon abandoned. They had asked us to believe that the Novorussians (the rebels) had shot down the aircraft. When it became clear that the rebels had no such capabilities we were then asked to accept that Russians were operating such anti-aircraft batteries in their stead. When that failed the liars shifted to the ill-conceived argument that MH17 was downed from Russian territory. Even in the face of satellite evidence produced by the Russians showing a Ukrainian air force jet in the vicinity of flight MH17 seconds before its downing, the Americans and their new neo-fascist friends failed to provide any evidence to the contrary. They ignored that the Ukrainian military had done this before, 10 years prior, by accident. That is the problem with the big lie theory, you see, a modicum of truth, given some media can defeat a universe of big lies. The imperfect attempts by both the Novorussians and Russians to cooperate with international agencies and governments, particularly the government of Malaysia, has prevented the use of this 9/11 type false flag attach as a cause cilibre – a cause for war! Nobody, but idiots, have any confidence in anything the Americans say about anything. Diplomacy defeated militarism and the destruction of truth as necessary pre-conditions for war but the big liars will not quit. Right now more lies are being hatched, even about Syria. Anything to make a war possible.

Whereas the West and NATO would like to characterize Vladimir Putin as a tyrant, the new Hitler and a warmonger. And whereas the propagandized minds in the West are imminently susceptible to these big lies. We must conclude that the reverse is true. It is the West that are the tyrants. It is the West that are the supporters of the neo-Nazi and are themselves fascists. It is the West, and the Americans in particular, who have lost their way and see war as their only hope of extending empire. It is the West which covets other peoples’ things and intend to take them by any means necessary, like they have always done. Thinking people should not see the Ukrainian situation in isolation. They must connect it to recent, similar, imperial American – NATO behaviors in Libya, Syria, Egypt, South Sudan, Yugoslavia, Palestine, Iraq and Iran. Of course, there is a wider berth of imperial excesses even within Europe itself, like Operation Gladio. So for the West there are to be no friends, per-say, only to  the extent to which such relationships serve their interests. In this vicious game for power everybody lies to everybody else and the West have been the biggest liars of all. The bigger the lie …………………… the better!

  2. America’s Gamble: Wealth, War and Power. “Russian Roulette” and the Drive To Nuclear Armageddon?

    By Colin Todhunter

    snip

The Project for a New American Century (PNAC) is a recipe for continued barbarity [13]. It discusses taking out Syria, Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan and other countries. The outcome has been chaos and slaughter for the benefit of Wall Street and the City of London. The ultimate goal is to prevent any rival emerging to challenge Washington’s global hegemony and to secure dominance over the entire planet.

Two countries present a challenge in this respect: Russia and China. Both are in the process of being dealt with. Russia is currently the top priority: it is preventing ‘progress’ in Syria, Iran and Central Asia. At this time, all paths to Moscow are through Ukraine.

A former top CIA official recently stated that if the economic sanctions do not hurt Russian oligarchs enough to make them oust Putin then a bullet to the head would do the job [14]. And that is the whole point of Washington’s game plan. To slap illegitimate sanctions on Moscow, to squeeze Russia’s rich till the pips squeak and they oust Putin and to destabilise Russia via Ukraine and install a leader who will acquiesce to the US. The US can then proceed unchallenged to loot Russia again, as it did in the nineties. But this time the plan is to balkanise Russia to ensure it remains permanently crippled.

    Washington has no morality.

In a recent speech by Putin, he stated that those forces who are lining up against Russia should remember that Russia is a nuclear power [15]. Washington believes it can win a nuclear conflict with Russia. It no longer regards nuclear weapons as a last resort but part of a convention theatre of war and is willing to use them for pre-emptive strikes [16].

Washington is accusing Russia of violating Ukraine’s territorial sovereignty without a shred of credible evidence, while it sends military and intelligence assistance to Kiev and has its military, mercenary and intelligence personnel inside Ukraine. It is putting troops in Poland and is tabling a ‘Russian anti-aggression’ act that will portray Russia as an aggressor in order to give Ukraine de facto membership of NATO and thus full military support, advice and assistance [17]. If Russia does decide to intervene to protect ethnic Russians, NATO/the US and Moscow could come face to face on the battlefield. The strength of Russia’s conventional forces in its own back yard would surely place NATO on the back foot. Staring defeat in the face, the US could well resort to the nuclear option.

Washington’s aggression amounts to a gamble with all our lives. There would be no winner, only nuclear Armageddon for the entire planet.

  6. I well remembered when the then Soviet Union rolled into Czechoslovakia almost overnight in 1968. Shortly afterwards NATO mounted an exercise, involving much of its backbone forces, namely the USA and the UK. Hope that NATO has improved since then, if it plans on arms wresting with Putin,as there are some military organisations within NATO , that are just numbers.

  7. There’s a new book recently released which some readers of this blog might find of interest, as we find ourselves watching violence flaring in Ukraine, the Middle East and Libya with threats and warnings of more violence to come if Putin’s ambitions cannot be reigned in, and in the background is always the perpetual “war on terror” (now a war on ISIS, the “new and improved” al Qaeda) which Dick Cheney assured us would never end in our lifetime.

The author is a retired Canadian academic, Professor Graeme MacQueen, formerly a Professor of Religious Studies at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. In his book MacQueen investigates the story behind the anthrax filled letters sent to some US politicians and media figures not long after 9/11/2001 and which were quickly linked to al Qaeda and/or Saddam Hussein by politicians and media commentators. (The anthrax filled envelopes also contained crude, hand written notes warning of future attacks and included phrases such as: “Death to America, Death to Israel, Allah is Great”, clearly designed to give the impression they were written by Muslim fanatics.)

“This deeply troubling book should be read by all thinking Americans.”
    Denis J. Halliday, UN Assistant Secretary-General 1994-98

THE 2001 ANTHRAXDECEPTION The Case for a Domestic Conspiracy

    SYNOPSIS

The 2001 anthrax letter attacks in the United States killed five people and wounded dozens. They were widely blamed on extremist Muslims and their backers and used to support the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.

They were also used to justify and hasten the passage of the USA PATRIOT Act, which was being presented to Congress just as the first anthrax victim grew ill. In October 2001, one of the hypotheses that gained ground was that of the Double Perpetrator, the claim that al-Qaeda was carrying out the attacks with the support of Iraq. Much evidence was put forth to support this Double Perpetrator hypothesis but independent scientists soon discovered that the anthrax spores came from a domestic lab in the US serving the military and intelligence communities, not from al-Qaeda or Iraq.

The FBI then quickly claimed that an individual was responsible for the attacks and began noisily looking for this “lone wolf.” In 2008 the Bureau named Dr. Bruce Ivins of the US Army Medical Institute of Infectious Disease as the “anthrax killer.” Although the FBI remains committed to the Ivins hypothesis, the case has been disintegrating for the last three years. Currently, it is justly held in contempt not merely by scientists who worked with Ivins but by many journalists as well as several US senators. But this raises the question: if Ivins did not commit this crime, who did?

This book presents evidence to support the following points:
    (a) The anthrax attacks were carried out by a group of perpetrators, not by a “lone wolf.” The attacks were, therefore, the result of a conspiracy—by definition a plan by two or more people, made in secret and resulting in an immoral or illegal act.
    (b) The group that carried out this crime consisted, in whole or in part, of insiders deep within the US state apparatus.
    (c) These insiders were the same people who planned the 9/11 attacks
    (d) The anthrax attacks were meant to facilitate a seizure of power by the executive branch of government through intimidation of Congress and US civil society. They were also designed to achieve public acquiescence to and support for the redefinition of US foreign policy, replacing the Cold War with a new and aggressive global conflict framework, the Global War on Terror.

A succinct posit that captures what’s happening in Ukraine. Don’t forget CIA orchestrated the coup that ousted the elected President that led to Crimea’s vote to leave Ukraine followed by the uprising in the east.. Cause and effect .

    Here’s more-

Why doesn’t the Ukraine government sit with the rebels and thrash out a ceasefire and agreement on how they can co exist? This tragic civil war cannot be won on the battlefield by Ukraine so they should sit and work things out with the rebels.

  9. @Pacha

Al qaeda now ‘favoured’ over ISIS.

    Bush approach vs Obama

It is more of the same.

    When will it end.

  10. @ David
It is wrong to accept these false choices. The real terrorists are their paymasters. Those who use them to achieve Geo-political ends. These are the USA, The Europeans and the satrapies in the Middle east like Saudi Arabia and their secret global government. Only when the West decides to invade SA would you know they’re serious about destroying their (the West’s) creation – terrorism

There is no difference in the approach regardless of who is president. The presidency is an institution and the titular holder makes no difference to the general trajectory. They are all the same, Reagan-Bush1-Clinton-Bush2-Obama what lasting difference has there been? They all try to serve those who put them there. The war they seek is not about any real differences between people, it’s about infighting amongst the secret government. The peoples of Russia have no real differences with the American people. It’s Putin who refuses to take secret Orders from those who want to establish a one world government, with them in control.

The end gives us no ‘hope’ either, unless there is mass uprisings everywhere and we find ways to rid ourselves of the people our leaders serve. Or you may have to ask Bushie to hasten his kingdom! LOL

  11. Ex-NSA Director, US Intelligence Veterans Write Open Letter To Merkel To Avoid All-Out Ukraine War

Alarmed at the anti-Russian hysteria sweeping Washington, and the specter of a new Cold War, U.S. intelligence veterans one of whom is none other than William Binney, the former senior NSA crypto-mathematician who back in March 2012 blew the whistle on the NSA’s spying programs more than a year before Edward Snowden, took the unusual step of sending the following memo dated August 30 to German Chancellor Merkel challenging the reliability of Ukrainian and U.S. media claims about a Russian “invasion.”

MEMORANDUM FOR: Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany
FROM: Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS)
    SUBJECT: Ukraine and NATO

We the undersigned are longtime veterans of U.S. intelligence. We take the unusual step of writing this open letter to you to ensure that you have an opportunity to be briefed on our views prior to the NATO summit on September 4-5.

You need to know, for example, that accusations of a major Russian “invasion” of Ukraine appear not to be supported by reliable intelligence. Rather, the “intelligence” seems to be of the same dubious, politically “fixed” kind used 12 years ago to “justify” the U.S.-led attack on Iraq. We saw no credible evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq then; we see no credible evidence of a Russian invasion now. Twelve years ago, former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, mindful of the flimsiness of the evidence on Iraqi WMD, refused to join in the attack on Iraq. In our view, you should be appropriately suspicions of charges made by the US State Department and NATO officials alleging a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

    SNIP

    Experience With Untruth

Hopefully, your advisers have reminded you of NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen’s checkered record for credibility. It appears to us that Rasmussen’s speeches continue to be drafted by Washington. This was abundantly clear on the day before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq when, as Danish Prime Minister, he told his Parliament: “Iraq has weapons of mass destruction. This is not something we just believe. We know.”

Photos can be worth a thousand words; they can also deceive. We have considerable experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting on all kinds of satellite and other imagery, as well as other kinds of intelligence. Suffice it to say that the images released by NATO on August 28 provide a very flimsy basis on which to charge Russia with invading Ukraine. Sadly, they bear a strong resemblance to the images shown by Colin Powell at the UN on February 5, 2003 that, likewise, proved nothing.

  12. On the geo-politics, Fidel has always been right!

“On the geo-politics, Fidel has always been right!”

On the geopolitics, Fidel never made a good bet in his life. That being why His People now live in penury.

And not only in penury; also a closed camp.

Can I, as a Cuban, trundle down to the local British Airways office in Havana and buy a ticket to France or Sweden or Italy or (god forfend) the US?

    No, I can’t. Why? Why?

  15. Can I, as a Cuban living in Havana, buy online a ticket to anywhere out of the country?

    No, I can’t. Why? Why?

  16. Why is it that when Barbados exports such a proportionally large number of people every year to the rest of the world, that not a single one of them (count them: zero) ever moves permanently to Havana or Moscow?

Why are there so many Bajans in Brooklyn and Toronto, whinging about the abscence of Banks beer and eddoes, but not a single Bajan who has ever thought, in all of human history: ” you know what would be cool? Let’s move the family to Havana. That’d be so cool.”

    Why?

  17. This entire post, like countless others from the the same source: “a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, and signifying nothing.”

An idiot smooching up to the gangster goon Putin. An idiot so ensnared by his own idiocy, so full of hate for the countries to which Barbados exports most of its reasonably bright prime-age people, that he wants to snuggle up with barbarians.

An idiot. An idiot with a lot of time on his hands, granted, but still an idiot.

First, what is this secret government?

Second, if it’s secret, how do you know about it?

Third, if you know about it, how can it be described as “secret”?

  19. Fourth, Pachamama, how do you know about this “secret government”?

Did you (i) somehow infiltrate it with night-vision goggles and appropriate firearms and a mission; or (ii) read about it on the internet in funny websites?

Whatever the answer, the question abides: what is this “secret government”? Who are its (not it’s) members?

  21. Hitler annexed the Sudentenland. Putin annexed the Crimea. In Hitler’s case, the world appeased him and he invaded Poland. The rest is history. In Putin’s case, the world was too scared to confront him, so he invaded Ukraine. Who is really acting like the Nazis here?

  22. Peltdownman | September 2, 2014 at 3:16 PM |

    “Hitler annexed the Sudentenland.”

    True

“Putin annexed the Crimea. In Hitler’s case, the world appeased him and he invaded Poland.”

    True.

    “The rest is history.”

    Wrong, without qualification.

In history, what happened is that the grown-up countries who were not barbarians sacrificed much blood and treasure to bomb the barbarians into civilization. Within living memory we have irrefutable proof that barbarians can be bombed into civilization. Bombing can stop people, civilian people, from gassing children and the shovelling their little bodies into ovens.

It goes without saying that the idiot Pachamama is an ahistorical idiot.

  23. Can you imagine, if the idiot government of Cuba woke up tomorrow and said: ” Know what? Let’s just let all we little fidelistas travel freely, let the little fidelistas go wherever they want.”

How many Cubans would be left in Cuba? Seriously. How many?

  24. And can Cubans even read this BU discussion on the internet?

    No, they can’t. Why? Why?

    That’s the way to go.

  33. Who’s Telling the ‘Big Lie’ on Ukraine?
    September 2, 2014
Exclusive: ”Official Washington draws the Ukraine crisis in black-and-white colors with Russian President Putin the bad guy and the U.S.-backed leaders in Kiev the good guys. But the reality is much more nuanced, with the American people consistently misled on key facts”, writes Robert Parry.
    http://consortiumnews.com/2014/09/02/whos-telling-the-big-lie-on-ukraine/

Seems like the intelligent people are talking about the same ‘Big Lie’. Of course fools seldom differ.

  34. Colonel Buggy

It is funny how Hitler preached his racial ideology on one hand, while on the other hand, he accepted the Japanese people who are non-white as his friends? Could it be that Hitler was using the Japanese to acomplished his personal designs? Or did he honestly saw them as equal to the European? What was Hitler’s motivation for befriending the Yellow man? In his opus magnus, Hitler belittled the non-white people of the world and inflated the accomplishment of the European throughout human civilization.

  35. The Germany philospher Emanual Kant, preached his geographical racist ideology, which helped perpetuated the theory of racial inferiority. Kant, was of the opinion that people who lived in the warner climates such as Africa; lacked the kind of intellect you often find in colder climates of Europe.

  36. People often ask the question: why did Hitler held such a pathological hatred for the Jewish people. Many wrongfully suggested that it stemmed from his personal envy for their success, but his hatred for the Jews actually, sprung for his love of the two Germany antisemitic philosophers, Nietzsche and Hegel. These two men influenced Hitler’s thinking in fundamental ways!

  37. @ Dompey
…why don’t you stop with this damn “which helped perpetuated” and “why did Hitler held such a pathological hatred”….
    Steupsss
Yuh can use the damn past tense after qualifying the statement like that….
Um should be “which helped to perpetuate”
    …and ” why did Hitler HOLD”….

    …you trying to sound like your a Kant…or what…?

You had to discover the negative in so much of the positive, but that is okay brother, Jack Bowman is around to fix you Mr. perfect.

  39. @Dompey
Hitler had no intentions of making the Japanese equal to his minds eye master race. Hitlers intention was to let the Japanese do the dirty work in the Far East, and when the rest of the world was conquered by the Germany mighty machine, then they would have turn on the Japs.,using the same Belsen and Dachau methods to decimate them.

  45. Looks like Putin is playing the game they all play.

Trying to understand how Western authorities can figure out who beheads anyone. Isn’t the bigger problem the entity driving the action?

The 24 hour US news networks are feeding on the news bites and images the Ukraine and Iraq conflicts offer. Just the other day the US was funding ‘freedom’ fighters in Syria who now comprise ISIS forces. Funny the way one has to reap the whirl win.

  46. @ David
No! The putch government has lost its will be fight and had earlier agreed to a ceasefire, today, but evidently internal and or external forces has caused them to withdraw from this agreement. Putin has defeated the West as the rebels have defeated Kiev and its coup government.

  47. Putsch!

  48. @Pacha

Part of the problem is the idea by Germany, Franch and the better off countries in the EU tbat they should be reluctant to help European countries of the former Soviet bloc on the fringe like Ukrane. This makes them vulnerable to Big Bear.

  49. @ David
The implicit assumption of existence of this old polemic is wrong. Lines are not so clearly divided. Yes, there are Big Bear elements. Yes, there are rich vs poor dynamics, and so on. But the hard Cold War divisions are not as black and white as indicated by those in the West who want war.

Separately, we had earlier said that Putin could take Kiev and most of Ukraine in short order if he wanted to and the American-NATO would be helpless. See this quote from Putin as wrongly contextualized in media: Putin told Jose Manuel Barroso “If I want to, I can take Kiev in two weeks,” Italy’s La Repubblica newspaper reported, implying this could be the result if the EU stepped up sanctions against Russia.
