One does not have to be a political scientist to see the “politically based delay tactic (PDT)” being played out against National Conservation Commission (NCC) workers by Barbados Workers Union (BWU) leadership who it would also appear based on the tactic used is in obvious private cahoots with government.

As we have seen on so many issues when referring to the Prime Minister for action, the PDT  can now be officially called the “Stuart Manoeuvre”, which is to delay action until people forget, loose interest, get tired, or just give in. What a shame SR …. what a stain on your BWU legacy, the “workers of Barbados will never forget”.

BWU, enough is enough, either represent the workers of Barbados without partisanship concerns or give them their “DUES PAID BACK”. To accept membership dues for services and support not rendered I am sure is against the law and ripe for some kind of workers group law suit.

There was never much fight in Trotman to begin with but what little there was has dried up. He is old and tired and merely hanging on so that he can pass the leadership of the union over to his chosen square-peg successor.

This is the saddest indictment we read recently. What gravamen. If a workers union could be in the place you so accurately described, there can be little prospects for the rest of us.

  3. What were the action points out of the BWU with NCC workers yesterday?

  4. Hamilton Hill Avatar

What is most baffling here is the fact that this stance by both unions has been patiently clear for quite some time now. That the leadership in the affected devisions would sit back and let the union bosses take them for a ride is astounding. Long before this debacle reached the NCC neither union made much effort to hide the fact that their allegiances were not with the workers.

  5. You are all describing a fascist state were all power is controlled by the same people and there are no internal and healthy competing interests.

All Fraud, every where you turn , This is one big ball of wax, To Cut it up in many parts means nothing , to talk about each part means nothing , All is the same mess held in parts. Union and all the pimp title holders are the same part of the DLP snake , Do not be fooled , Sir this and sir that ,a pack of fools that are lying to the members , Until the snake are removed, then we can see how deep the pit is.long talk and no action , As they say in America , SUCKERS TO who ever believe the words of snakes.

It is a fascist state both while the BLP and the DLP are in power and this manouvre is not only to be ascribed to Fumble Stuart.

And yes, Casswell is right when he says that the currency of endeavour and commitment was never thee in this now tired old man who never had a heyday but has been ever in the doldrums of existence.

Therein comes the indictment that so many of US, when we are appointed a responsibility at the ballot boxes, so easily vote for these shadows of men, bereft as they are of any intellectual currency, dimwits and dip-shits par excellence.

Tell this ole man please, what are we doing?

We seem committed to a path of self destruction, seemingly guided by a (corrupted) message that reads, “be ye circumcised (in the flesh) because unto such is the reward of salvation” and in partially hearing that, the Bajan populace have embarked on an extreme interpretation of tha message that reasoned “if cutting off the foreskin brings me salvation, then cutting off the whole organ will indeed carry me beyond nirvana”

As a consequence we now suffer from the pervasive mal- appointments of dolts and nitwits who collectively, if intellect were convertible to horse power, are incapable of delivering the power to run a 1/2 HP bush wacker.

At least Mottley and Owen can deliver a speech without 16 pieces of paper in front of them which, as is seen from Sinckliar’s performance, he and many others in this band, cant even read!!

Which country seeking to participate in the Olympics 100 metres relay team, sends kindergarden students?

Look how Jamaica sends its best and USA sends its best but in the international race of deftly managing our economy not only have we not even sent kindergarden students but we have gone to our Green Gates Hotel in Black Rock and assembled madmens and now shake our heads in incredulity when the ingrunt clods phvck up

  8. Lest the BU forum forget, recall after decades of the BWU as an organisation, and Sir Roy as the delegate, representing the Barbados trade union movement at the annual ILO conference in Geneva, Government, based on a cabinet decision, thought it should include the wider labour movement under the umbrella body CTUSAB.

Perhaps Trotman interpreted being overlooked by Esther Byer-Suckoo in favour of Walter Maloney and Cedric Murrell as payback for his participation in the 1994 situation, which eventually led to the DLP losing a no-confidence motion and subsequently the 1994 election, to spend 14 long years in opposition.

So…… Sir Roy seems to be seeking a return in the DLP’s “good books”, as proven by his lack luster performance in representing employees, especially those from the public sector. Who, knows…. maybe Trotman is foreseeing a diplomatic pick in the waiting, after he finally says goodbye to the BWU.

However, the same way many are saying the BLP and DLP have outlived their usefulness, I am of the opinion that the BWU and NUPW, have gone pass their “sell by” dates as well. If we carefully analyse both unions, Sir Roy and Dennis Clarke are both “cut from the same bolt of cloth.”

  9. Well if the quasi-illiterate minorities who had nothing in the way of financial wealth can manage to bribe the dumb-ass black politicians of DLP/BLP leadership in Barbados for at least 20 years, USING THEIR OWN taxpayers contracts MONEY TO BRIBE THEM……..the nonsense and treachery at the worker’s union by the union bosses is child’s play and should not even come as a surprise.

The only one of the minorities who may have a very good intellect is Peter Harris, well, we know very shortly he will take out his whip and deal with the dumb ass political leadership of both DLP/BLP, cause he BRIBED THEM TOO…….but unlike big mouth Bizzy, he will not gloat but just take over and buy up every shite in sight in Barbados, as he is doing right now, including the Transport Board. HA!!

  10. Trade Unionism and Trade Unions are a complete total waste of time and energy of human beings in the thrust towards the greater historical evolution of this country.

The time for these gross exploitative relics of a distant past has long gone in this country.

Imagine the abject and catholic ignorance and foolishness that the unionized workers of these very backward disorganizations do not even own them!!

So as Trade Unionism and Trade Unions correctly wither away in this country, there must instead be greater impetus by any groups of citizens towards the formation of a social movement, in Barbados, that will help ensure that the status of workers in this country will rightly evolve into the status of PARTNERS, and in a context too where there is the necessary evolution of companies/corporations into PARTNERSHIP enterprises, in the government and private sectors of this country.

Indeed, such PARTNERS will, et al, each PART-OWN the business partnership enterprise in which he or she functions; will be entitled to access and or to possess all critical major information related to that business PARTNERSHIP enterprise in which they function; will be entitled to having an indispensible say in the general direction in which the enterprise is heading; and will be entitled to a PARTNERSHIP wide, majority agreed upon share of the remunerations remaining in the conduct of business in respect of each PARTNERSHIP enterprise.

Such a national partnership dispensation culture will also help to make sure that there is a far greater distribution of wealth and remunerations among the social categories in Barbados; will too help to ensure that there is a greater level of substantial stakeholdership to emerge among the most industrial and commercial of the people of this country; and will assist in bringing about a tremendous sense of ownership and responsibility by these business partners in the planning, organizational and managerial structures and processes of the partnership enterprises in this land.

Indeed, these kinds of propositions are among many other PDC policies that many persons have started to gravitate towards in this country.

Trade Unionism and Trade Unions MUST GO in this country!!

  12. Trade Unions are a welcome necessity world wide, if not for trade unions there would still be no workers rights and the world would still be plagued with child labor, very low wages that dictates life long poverty in familes etc……CORRUPT TRADE UNION BOSSES are a detriment to the movement…….that is the bottom line

  13. Trade Unions like successful businesses and individuals must constantly tweak business models, goal setting and tactics. How can we entertain people at the helm of unions where accoutability is not an agenda item and membership and key stakeholders have become disengaged.

  14. That means they are running the trade unions on the island the same way the political parties run the governments on the island, no accountability, nepotism, self-serving me, me and mine mentality, bribery and corruption, they use the same model, and unless another Bizzy opens his/her mouth and let the public know what they have known and suspected for the last 20 years, it will remain the same, the masses as a collective have to put their feet down as a collective and say……ENOUGH.

There are no good Pizza in BARBADOS, better to import Pizza , no real cheese , dry , dry, could never sell in the US of A, worse than the government of the DLP / BLP and the new DBLP.

  16. While we are questioning the usefulness of the unions as they exist today, let me ask – was there ever a resolution to the hotel and jewelry store incidents that threatened a shutdown of Barbados? I think not. It would be interesting to see the result of a member (ex?) approaching the FTC for a ruling on the taking of money by an entity in exchange for representation and then not providing same. Would that constitute a breach of contract? Come on David C, surely you can collaborate with CS to lay such a case.

    Excellent observation, David.

  18. The DLP Government give Sir Frank a job in the last years of his life, that job
allowed him to die at home instead of the district hospital , but he crawl on his ass before he die , that the payback for the wrong he done, it look like Sir Roy will be on his back before he die like a dog with his feet in the air , he shall pay for the wrong he has and is doing to the workers , may his God help him with the pain that is coming to him before death

“… Sir Roy seems to be seeking a return in the DLP’s “good books”, as proven by his lack luster performance in representing employees, especially those from the public sector….”

STUPES…he is a sickly old man and the NCC workers will leave the BWU and join Caswell’s org, it appears to me that Caswell’s union is the only one with real ideas and does do work for its members. cedric murrell and walter maloney are no better than leroy trotman, all looking for political glory, no wonder in their twilight years they end up with all kind of crap illnesses; the woman that roy trotman has to replace him should really step down. even her appearance alone speaks of a mousy mously mouse..lack of common sense and no kind of backbone…this is the beginning of the end of the BWU. the NUPW’s end will follow eventually when those silly workers realize that the unions except for Caswell’s work for the employers and not its members..

  20. @ Smooth C
    You are of course correct.
HOWEVER…..what sense does it make for Caswell to build up a new union now? …..to do what? The damn place need leadership that can CREATE jobs….not unionist to represent people who are unemployed.
See if you can get Caswell to widen his scope and bring the common sense that he has displayed to the country’s political, life nuh….

Right now a little INTERGITY and TRANSPARENCY along with some respect for agreed rules – would transform this damn collection of brass bowls…. and Caswell got the balls for the job….

….he never used to listen to Bushie….but he real partial to pretty women like you…. 🙂

  22. Caswell is on the talk shows, he is on BU, he is on Facebook, he has a weekly column, also he is very active in the credit union arena. There is not much more you can ask of one man.

  23. @Caswell

Have you had a formal response to your concern that you have submissions pending from January but NUPW and BWU proposals have leapfrogged yours?

It appears as though the PM would have to tell the tribunal to deal with my matters. He did that in the case of the NCC workers and they rush to start a case that was not properly before them. NUPW had to go back, after the first date before the tribunal, and solicit names of people to represent – a complete farce.

Just read that unemployment benefits for the NCC workers are now ready. Seriously though, how can any of you who give your hard earned money on a monthly basis to the NUPW take Dennis Clarke seriously? This man does not qualify for clown status, for he knows exactly what he has done and continues to do. This is what bugs me about Barbados. People like Dennis Clarke and Leroy Parris breathe the same air and share the same space as the regular population, even though these two, and a few others I can think of are indeed special creatures.

  26. Hamilton Hill Avatar

All of fear of victimization and intimidation can be put to rest if only barbadians would come to the realization that there is indeed strength in numbers. We must also accept the fact that we can no longer jump from the frying pan into the fire, then back into the frying pan. This is the practice that has worked to the benefit of the select few who control the stove that fuels the economy of our country.

  27. @Hamilton

The variable in the pilitical equation is that both parties collude to guard the status quo read PAC and ignoring Auditor General reports. Some may want to mention the gun incident.

  30. Sir Roy (BWU) has called a meting with NCC staff retrenched for Monday at 3PM.

  31. The PM promised a speedy hearing for the NCC dispute at the Employment Tribunal, tonight Sir Roy reported the Tribunal is far from ready to entertain hearing. It explains why Caswell’s issues have been in pending. So we wait.
