Capitalism: Will It Destroy Civilization?

 "Capitalism is like cance"

“Capitalism is like cancer”

Capitalism is like cancer. Once it enters a host country’s economy, it will spread and devour labor, the environment, and any other impediment to the growth of profit. Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell. The essence of capitalism is to turn nature into commodities and commodities into capital. However, the world cannot continue to get richer as the earth becomes poorer. Just as the only inevitability in life is death, the only inevitability about our capitalist way of life, is the death of our planet.

  2. Capitalism is the unequal sharing of wealth.

Communism is the equal sharing of MISERY

Socialism is the confiscation of hardworking people’s money via unnecessarily high taxes to create DEPENDENCE among a broad swath of the mainly lazy populace in order to buy votes for CORRUPT politicians.

  3. The only cancer proven by this author is that afflicting his excuse for a brain! Hint: the commies of China and Russia switched to an incentive based system because the utopian Communism DOES NOT WORK to produce the minimal standard of living that the vast majority of people want. They were HUNGRY!
How come the Capitalist oriented country has a MUCH higher standard of living in each of the following pairs
    1 Nth vs Sth Korea.
    2 Russia vs USA
    3 Cuba vs Bdos

The author holds Capitalism culpable when indeed the problem is Elected politicians who do NOT care about the voters but only for their own Wealth Accumulation. Some people in any system are going to be greedy so it is up to the political leaders to regulate and control effectively and efficiently.

What we really require is honest, properly educated and experienced professional LEADERSHIP! Leaders who will encourage hardwork and progress through excellent education and other crucial services BUT who make it crystal clear that lazyasses who are indifferent and dont want to develop and succeed in society WILL STARVE!

It is all about CARRROT and STICK!

    INCENTIVE and DISINCENTIVE!

Humans dont understand any other system.

  4. A Politicians raison d’etre educated or not is to remain in power…..this can be achieved by having sheeple…..sheeple are created by promoting a dependency syndrome through various belief systems.

    • @Vincent

      So what is education?

Why send our children to school?

    • The record of increasing economic freedom elsewhere makes it inexcusable that a country like the U.S. continues to pursue policies antithetical to its own growth, while wielding its influence to encourage other countries to chart the same disastrous course. The 2014 Index of Economic Freedom documents a world-wide race to enhance economic opportunity through greater freedom—and this year’s index demonstrates that the U.S. needs a drastic change in direction.

    • @Vincent

Using the fact we are predominantly Black countries which should serve as an incentive for us to coalesce around approaches which serve majority interest at lease. By your argument we are currently brainwashed by a system which serves other interest.

  5. David
In our present state that is a very good question.

In days of yore individuals seeking knowledge, generally pertaining to creation and the various mysteries found on this planet got together in order to come to some understanding of them and created theories, which over time have all been proven to be unfounded.

Fast forward to today, education is to teach sheeple how not to think for themselves, but pass certain criteria so they can continue to suit the agenda of whichever theory is carrying the sway.

    • @Vincent

How do you relate such a position to a country like Barbados which is predominantly Black.

Are you signalling a resignation to our inability to break a cycle?

      On 18 January 2014 17:38, Barbados Underground

  6. David….
What has black got to do with anything?

I am referring to the present theory of Western civilisation/capitalism that we subscribe to and follow so slavishly through our educational system.

Which cycle are you referring to?

  7. Vincent et al
Brainwashed maybe BUT at least they have FREEDOM of CHOICE!

As Mao famously said ” power comes from the barrel of the gun!”
Under Communism there was no need to brainwash and MILLIONS of humans died or were sent to the GULAG!

You and everyone else are FREE to opt out and go to live in Cuba or other Communist state. This is a major differentiator with the West as in Cuba / communist states you cant choose to opt out.

How come the lefties in the West dont leave and go live in Commie Nations?

  8. PEOPLE IN BARBADOS ARE SICK, ESPECIALLY THE WOMEN AND THE FOOLISH MEN THAT DOES GIVE THEM MONEY TO BUY THESE THINGS.

A LOT OF THESE PEOPLE PROBABLY VOTED FOR THE DLP OR DID NOT VOTE AT ALL

THE IMPORTATION OF wigs and weaves into Barbados is a $2 million business.

And it could grow by even more this year.

Statistics obtained from the Barbados Statistical Department (BSD) showed that some of the biggest imports were human hair, wigs, false beards, eyebrows and eyelashes.

In total, the imports of these commodities were valued at $2 420 502 last year.

The majority of these items, according to the BSD, were imported from China, Hong Kong and the United States.

  9. Moneybrain…

    Chuckle……Oh yea of the black&white world….truly brainwashed……

All civilisations/systems have an agenda….my post was in reference to ours the western one.
The agendas are the same…..control of the sheeple….the means may/will differ but the ends are the same.
The oldest one the barter system was overthrown,as will these ones…..but..

  10. Capitalism is far more than a pure economic creed. It is the bedrock of democracy at home and peaceful relation abroad. But capitalism is fragile, as was proved towards the end of the nineteenth century.

  11. The thing about Capitalism that I like is that, it offers the common MaN like you and I the opportunity to become a wealthy man.

  12. Now with the barter -system, the concept of true value ceases to exist. The value of a commodity used to be determine by the amount of labor expounded on a commodity. That is why one fundamental reasons Gold is sold expensive, apart for the demand of the commodity,

    • Because one questions Capitalism does it mean we have to turn to communism? This is in a world where this governance system is changing?

    • Then there is the idealistic position that if there were no wars there would be no starvation in the world. We could all take comfort in the knowledge that each person ate.

  13. Who in their right mind with any knowledge of political affairs, would suggest that we should turn to communism as an alternative solution to capitalism?
As a matter of fact, the collapsed of capitalism in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries was due impart to the assault of the collectivist idelologies, imperialism, communism, socialism and fascism.

  14. I certainly would rejoice if we could conjure up a solution to war!

However, even in my own household there are unnecessary battles mainly between my wife and children. So pray tell how are large groups of people with foreign cultures, habits, religions, skin colours etc going to live in harmony? Besides Political “leaders” love to fracture and fragment or divide and conquer, and since the majority are conned by political shenanigans trouble will continue, REGRETTABLY! Besides there are too many people on Earth and so war will be waged to thin them out! SAD but inevitable!

  15. Just Asking…Jamaica is currently taxing weaves, wigs, etc.these are not necessities contrary to the idiocy black women believe and should be very heavily taxed, along with cigarettes and all other non-necessities of which there are way to many on such a small island..but the leaders in Barbados are yet to notice this, maybe they are too busy being just as dumb as the females and spend too much time admiring the wigs/weaves.

  16. someone once asked a Russian politician to explain the difference between capitalism and communism. Here is what he said:

Under capitalism, man exploits man. Under communism, it is exactly the reverse.

  17. An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on this plan”. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A…. (substituting grades for dollars – something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little. The second test average was a D! No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F. As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that communism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you’ll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4.You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

  18. @Spadey
Great quote! Naturally, the main difference is that anyone can choose in Capitalism to take a chance at being the exploiter! The truth is there are many people who are very willing to work for someone else in business or Govt. The critical factor is the ability to change your relative position in life as a result of some combination of brains and hard work.

I think the best solution is to use a form of Socialised Capitalism like Singapore or Japan. The emphasis should be placed on encouraging industriousness and providing good Education, Medical Care etc BUT with strings attached in that individuals MUST be held accountable for their effort—-no sciving, no sitting around on welfare for 30yrs. Workfare not welfare! In Canada you can have 50 women with kids under the age 12 and none works because there is no one to look after the younger ones. MADNESS. 5-10 should be trained to stay in their building and look after the kids while the other 40 WORK! NO ONE should have the right to be sucking on the people’s teets ad infinitum.

The real joke is that the truly disabled generally want to work!

  19. @Inkwell
YES! Those words should be taught at every school and especially UNIVERSITY!

An INCENTIVE based system is the ONLY solution except that people down on their luck should receive help BUT only if the recipients continue to be worthy by their efforts!

  20. Moneybrain you planning any investments to help Barbados?

You would fall into the category of eminent persons with money and brains.

  21. How about people “POOR PEOPLE are the rich greatest commodities,,,,they rich invest in the poor using them as slaves for cheap labour,,,,,

  22. Global, regional or local capitalism will never ever collapse, die or any thing of the sort, so long as  freedom, liberty, and autonomy ( and as are properly transposed in the respective political constitutional legal rights of the average citizen or public or private enterprise to own property, to invest, to market goods and services, to pass on such goods to have many others etc) exceed authority, conformity, and tyranny ( and as are properly transposed in dictatorial totalitarianist edicts, dictates, and decisions related to ownership and control of the vast majority of commercial property and remunerations, related to what goods and services must be invested in, and produced and marketed and to whom they are to pass on to and what monies are to be secured, etc) at multifarious human societal levels and their countless points of interconnectivity.

Global, regional or local capitalism will never ever collapse, die or any thing of the sort, so long as a person or a group of persons can/use themselves, however whenever wheresoever they can/use themselves, socially politically, psychologically, etc, or some other person or group of persons can/use the former themselves, however whenever wheresoever they can/use themselves socially politically, psychologically, etc, as a means towards helping achieve various material financial objectives.

Those described situations are among the fundamental causes why capitalism will continue to exist and, along with the numerous social political technological and innovations and revolutions that have and will come and their especially consonant effects in the various inner and outer societies, will continue to take various forms and figurations.

  23. @Hants
I was considering investing in Bim, BUT did NOT know which Pol I had to make the “payments” to?

Hants do you know the system of extortion?

Your flattery is disconcerting for a gent with my limited brain and money.
I cant help anticipating a 2×4 upside the head! LOL

  24. Money….Try Inniss, Minister for International Business, you can’t……I don’t know whether to say win or lose……lol

  25. Capitalism failed due to wealth distribution of global companies and individuals limiting bulk of wealth to a small minority of population

  26. It is the vast majority of the pernicious and regressive ideologies, philolosophies and psychologies of economics and western finance and their own political ideological philosophical and psychological foundations and instrumentations – as individual or group vehicular expressions – that have overwhelmingly been responsible for the tremendous rate of property dispossession found today within especially sectors of the poor in Barbados; the gross and widening disparities in wealth and remuneration among the social classes in Barbados currently; the deepening levels of poverty in this country now; and the tremendous levels of chronic dependency and exploitation that are currently found among the masses, to a greater extent, and middle classes, to a lesser extent, of this in this country, etc.

Thus, it is the extensity and intensity of the destructiveness of things like Work, TAXATION, Interest Rates, the so-called repayment of monies to financial institutions (diabolical false myths), motor vehicle insurance, so-called exchange rate parities (diabolical false myths) and many more iniquitous odious ideologies, philosophies and psychologies that have led to these said virulent social academic disciplines of political economics and western political finance helping massively – but horrendously – to engender those kinds of vicious social problems identified just above and many others in this country.

Well, given what we in the PDC have said in our party’s above post about capitalist formations and conditions at the global, regional and local levels, it is clear that political economics and western political finance are – in essence – the very evil and demonic continuously operating functioning disciplines that are directly leading not just to wretched property dispossession, gross wealth and remuneration inequalities, worsening poverty conditions, acute levels of dependency and exploitation among the various classes of individuals in this country, but also to the regionalization and internationalization of those kinds  of inveterate problems among states at their respective levels.

    Up with Capitalism!!
To hell with political economics and western political finance!!!

  27. @Original Super Pussy

    Capitalism did NOT fail!

What FAILED was that Political “leaders” needed money for their campaigns and permitted the super GREEDY Banks et al Financial Institutions by REPEALING the existing Laws and Rules that were put in place after the fiasco of the Great Depression. Additionally, these “errant leaders” failed to ensure proper monitoring and control of Financial organisations.

In order to be guaranteed the West would fail the Pols made damn sure they gave away the Treasury to Lazyasses via Welfare and other payments to BUY votes and encourage the populace that work is a 4 letter word!

True LEADERS would emphasise Education, Healthcare, Development and JOB creation without paying people to be LAZY! They would HOLD the populace to account with strings attached when they are HELPING people via education, retraining etc, by this I mean, low effort would mean that $$$ benefits would be cut-off when recipients insist on playing the ASS.

This hate people have for Success is Wrong! There is one immigrant to Canada who over 50yrs has created a company with 117,000 JOBS globally. Do you really want a system to take HALF his income 40 yrs ago when he was building this mamoth organisation OR do you want this guy FULLY INCENTED?

The real problem is NOT Capitalism or the INCENTIVE style system. It is STUPID, Short sighted , CORRUPT “LEADERS”

    • @Moneybrain

Although there is merit in your position and the one put forward by Inkwell any system where a a signal digit of the population controls a disproportionate of the wealth in a country breeds its own problems. Shall we agree no system is perfect?

    • 4 Money Grabs Show a Few Rich People Are the Ones Getting Wealthier in America

      1. Just 13 Americans Made More from Their Investments in 2013 than the Entire SNAP Budget

      2. The Richest 400 Took $300 Billion in 2013, Approximately the ENTIRE Safety Net

      3. The Richest 12,000 Families are Estimated to have Each Made $40 Million in the Past Year

      4. The Richest 400 Individuals Own More Than Three-Fifths of America

      Conclusion: The System Is Broken

  28. @David
Agreed. No system that involves Humans can be perfect!

As you have seen I am advocating an Incentive based system BUT with proper Socialisation with DISCIPLINE! EFFECTIVENESS! EFFICIENCY! We can NOT afford all the FAT/ WASTE!

The reality is that HALF of mankind woke up from a DEEP COMMUNIST SLUMBER about 25 yrs ago (ie China, Russia/ SU and Socialist India).
The West was always going to be hurt by that, especially if they did not take the correct approach.

The super Rich are NOT all bad people look at the actions and formation of Foundations etc by Gates, Buffet et al. Paul Tudor Jones has set up the Robin Hood Foundation and educates THOUSANDS of serious young black and Hispanic kids in the NY area. The Foundation has developed schools with very strict guidelines to produce top flight students who can make it into the very best Unis.

I do agree that we dont want 2% Rich and 98% POOR! This is symptomatic of Societal FAILURE! But when Political “leaders” screw up this is exactly what happens!

The problem is that Politics has become the Wealth Accumulation Plan of far too many INCAPLE “leaders”. Bim is ample evidence today, where are the Adams, Barrow, Cammie Tudor types ??????????????????
Remember Cammie Tudor was the FIRST BLACK person to HEAD the OXFORD UNION! Where is the high CALIBRE now?

  29. @David
We agree the system is BROKEN!

When Pols destroy the middle class with errant policies this is exactly what we expect!

It probably will take a Militarily backed Benevolent Dictator to fix quickly!

Soon there will be more evidence of Societal breakdown, RIOTS, protests, violence etc. It has already started but the Govt tries to control the media coverage.

  30. The Bible does not use the phrase “One-World Government” or “One-World Currency” in referring to the end times.

It does, however, provide ample evidence to enable us to draw the conclusion that both will exist under the rule of the Antichrist in these last days.

Revelation 13:16-17 put it like this: “And he causeth “ALL”both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that “NO”man might “BUY” or “SELL”, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”

So how would a world built on fiat cash currencies ever accept a move to a system that is cashless, LUCIFERIAN and will be controlled by a powerful “MAN” that will have the power to determine life or death?

It was America’s 20th President, James Garfield who said: “He who controls the money supply of a nation controls the nation…”

So hold on boys & girls – a new economic SYSTEM is coming and REMEMBER – if you do not have the “MARK” – you or your family won’t be able to BUY or SELL without it!

    Will you take the “MARK”?

    Don’t answer that!

Early days yet – or so we hope!

  31. END OF TIMES —TIMES –DOES NOT MEAN END OF WORLD.
END OF MEN RULING THE WORLD WITH MORE WOMEN RISING IS AN END OF TIMES —TIMES WHEN ONLY MEN RULE NOW WOMEN HAVE EQUALITY.

THIS WOULD CAUSE CHANGES OF EPIC PROPORTIONS
WOMEN ARE DIFFERENT CREATURES DOING THINGS DIFFERENTLY .
THESE ARE DIFFERENT TIMES SO SOME TIME MUST HAVE ENDED TO START THIS TIME

    SIMPLE LOGIC

    STOP TRYING TO COMPLICATE LIFE
LIFE SIMPLE BUT SOME PEOPLE CANT ACCEPT THAT FACT

Dat be be spirit. Jah and deeply boring music that briefly infected white teenagers four decades ago (oddly, it tended to affect overweight white female teenage girls, while leaving untouched the non-fat everyone else). Not sure why, but I’m sure there’s a master’s thesis in sociology in it.
