And now archaeologists have found some of the 2,700-year-old ruins that the obscure verse of the Bible is about.
“The fortifications appear to protect an artificial harbor,” Tel Aviv University’s Alexander Fantalkin, leader of the excavations at the Ashdod-Yam archaeological dig, said about the discovery. “If so, this would be a discovery of international significance, the first known harbor of this kind in our corner of the Levant.”
The find was announced at the end of the first excavation season at Ashdod-Yam in the contemporary coastal city of Ashdod, just south of Tel Aviv. At the heart of the fortifications is a mud-brick wall measuring more than 12 feet wide in some places, and 15 feet high. The wall is covered in layers of mud and sand that stretch for hundreds of feet on either side.
When they were built in the 8th century B.C., the crescent-shaped fortifications would have defended an inland area covering more than 17 acres.
Such a discovery might not have meant much to American Christians before January 2012, when “The Harbinger” by Jonathan Cahn was released, or before March of that year when a followup documentary “The Isaiah 9:10 Judgment” came out.

One the one hand you argue that Jesus is God and no one can visit or live with the Father except through Him Jesus who is the Son and the Father all in one paradox of confusion.
On the other hand you argue that the Jews are God’s chosen people and would be inheriting the kingdom of God called the Promised Land. But we all know that Jews don’t recognize Jesus as their God or even give two hoots about his Word since they do not read or adhere to the New Testament.So sort that one out for us. The Scriptures teach that the Jews are God’s chosen people. This choice has nothing to do with many of the Jews lack of acknowledgment of Jesus as their God or their adherence to His Word. This is no difference to Bajans who CHOOSE THE BLP OR THE DLP despite the junk they do the people.
The promise of God that the Jews would inherit the land of promise was indeed fulfilled when the Jews conquered the land under Joshua and remained in the land until removed by the Assyrians and the Babylonians, and later again they were dispersed by the Romans.
Jeremiah, Isaiah and Ezekiel particularly, and nearly all of the so called minor prophets predicted a time when the Jews would be regathered into the land. This began in 1948. Scriptures also teach that at the glorious appearing of Christ, THAT IT IS AT THAT TIME THAT THE JEWS WILL REPENT AND ACCEPT JESUS AS SAVIOR AS LORD AND SAVIOR.
It helps to read a book, and understand its contents before talking rubbish.
It helps to study a subject before you can opine intelligently thereon.

Robert , my granny was a Ross and we worshiped at the kirk of st Nicholas for hundreds of years, My take on religion in general is it is like life insurance, if there is life after death, great my prayers aren’t wasted. However if I just rot away, what have I lost a little bit of time. My problem is when some of these pin heads think I should meet my maker ahead of my time to fulfill their presumption on what they should do to be able to meet theirs.

The quotation types you mention are not usually recited to assert the truth value of the quotation though they may amount to guidance or ‘rules’ of prudence. An Oscar Wilde quote, for example, is there for its wit and because obliquely it has something to say about life and the sort of people we are . Similarly, Churchill’s “We shall fight them on the beaches…we shall never surrender” is a call to arms and fortitude.
By contrast most Biblical quotes, at least in the way you are using them, are set up to assert the truth, the unvarnished truth, of what is asserted. As such, they are treated as universals. Your opponents would say that there is no such thing as “unvarnished truth”. There is your truth and my truth since, that is, we are not talking about the propositions of Euclidean geometry or, propositions of the kind ‘2 plus 2 make 4’. The answer will always be four despite the whine of the amateur for three or the cry of the critic for five (as they say).

Of course all religions are “scary” as it involves people trying to come to terms with the scariness of life on earth. As it happens, I was just thinking before I saw this post, about the caves at Lascaux. You had to crawl on your belly supported by your elbows through a very tight-fitting tunnel in total darkness for a long way till you reached an inner chamber which was lit by flaming torches. There you saw in the wavering torchlight images of beasts cavorting on the walls and the hunt. Handprints represented a button like that to call an elevator; you pressed your hand to the print which would then transport you into the Otherworld where you would experience insights as part of your initiation. Psychotropic drugs were possibly part of it. The analysis is extrapolation but based on the way similar sites have been used by shamanic cultures.

If you look at how the Bible came to be translated into English you will realize that the experience would ensure the radical changes such a translation would eventually bring to mankind.

The translations brought to the common man God’s Word in his (the common man’s) own language.
If you follow closely what happened subsequently in history you will see that it was men and women who adhered to the Bible’s message and listened to God’s Word who brought about the abolition of the institution of which you speak.
It took just over 200 years from the publication of that English translation for the abolition of the institution of slavery in English possessions …. but the world was receptive.
The world followed so that today you will find the thinking which gave rise to slavery being an institution is no longer accepted.
The history of the abolition of institution of slavery in those 200 years subsequent to the 1611 translation is for me the clearest evidence of God’s Word changing man’s heart …… on a truly massive scale.

@the relgious nutters here. I believe in God and I am a Christian who practices the teachings of Christ and I believe that he is indeed the son of God. For the rest of it, that is a matter of personal conviction. I hve not been in a church, other for weddings and funerals and christenings, in decades.
Now, God is supposed to have created man in his own image and to have provided Adam with Eve as a wife. Since God created Adam in his own image, who do you find it so hard to believe that he might also have created Eve in the image of Mrs God? After all, how many women do you know that would allow their husbands to ignore the rights of women?
To take my argument further, in what part of the world are women seen as inferior to men – where they are stoned for adultery or for having sexual congress with men not their husbands even if it is rape and must conceal their faces and even their legs from all but their husbands? Look to the Middle East! And precisely where did the erradication (by men) of Mrs God come from?
Then too, according to the nutters, marriage is an estate ordained of God between a single man and a woman, despite the fact that Abraham had several wives and so did everyone else at that time. And concubines!!!! As for Kings David and Solomon, well let us not even attempt to go there. But I have always found this view of the nutters to be perverse, because religion has always reflected the best interests of society – like the ban on pork because of the then lack of refridgeration and the mixture of milk/cream and fruit etc.
Today, marriage is largely an economic necessity, as tax concessions and child allowances and housing given in some Western countries make it so that parents don’t in many cases, even have to work. Which explains who in the UK, for instance, you see all these young women trailing around pregnant and with three or four children in supermarkets. SWMBO laughed when I saw one such young woman and remarked, “Three cash crops and another one almost ready for harvest.”
So, given their views that God has ordained one woman for one man (divorce proceedings aside) according to them in a time when men had several wives, surely they would welcome the fact that, prior to the writing of the Old Testament, God himself had one wife, Mrs God and they would uphold this fact to support their theory as to the intentions of the Creator.
What I also find perverse is the fact that some men will (and did) have multiple wives. And I say that on a purely sexual basis. For, the man is not born who can keep up with a woman in the sexual stakes. So, I am happy with just the one – it would kill me with exhaustion to have more than one, not to mention the fact that SWMBO would also kill me for taking another. BUT, the denial of the capacity of women as being superior to the capacity for men is simply silly.
Anyway, I am going back to work. SWMBO is quite content that there may have been a Mrs God.

In Robert Graves’ book ‘King Jesus’ Graves has the advent of Jesus as designed to kill off the female (goddess) and the works generally of the female. In Gospel terms it makes a kind of sense.
