President Hugo Chavez dead at 58
President Hugo Chavez dead at 58

President Hugo Chavez succumbed to his battle with cancer today. His legacy will be remembered by Barbadians for an anti-American foreign policy posture and in our backyard the Petrocaribe agreement which many Caribbean islands signed are signatories.

What is the implication for Barbados and the rest of the Caribbean.

No sense of decency about you whatsoever! But hey, that’s you style.
At least Chavez died at 58 and not 48.
May he rest in peace! Trust he did not fall victim to any ‘secret’ exposure to plutonium in a drone setting.
My sympathy goes out to the beautiful people of Venezuela and wishing there is a peaceful transition to another President without any social upheaval.

  5. Carson C Cadogan wash your mouth out. If you have nought to say just shut the h… Up

  6. He should have been SHOT DEAD when he attempted the Coup years ago!
Dictators need to be BENEVOLENT and CLEVER. Hugo did NOT qualify on either basis. Damn fool did NOT have a clue how to actually run the country.
His stupidity has lead to suffering among the poor peeps he was supposed to help. Oil production and exports down BIG!!! Many professionals eg Doctors left the country, how would that help the downtrodden??????

  7. he was a tyrant like the castro bros and mugabe and those of like kind but moneybrain it sems like the downtrodden relish to be fooled evnin democracies. neverthelss, may he in death experience that peace which he did not offer to his country in life.

Venezuelan judge says she was raped in prison

    Published November 23, 2012

The case of Venezuelan Judge Maria Lourdes Afiuni, in custody for almost three years amid international condemnation of her imprisonment, took an unexpected turn with the publication of a book in which she says she was raped in prison.

Arrested in December 2009 after the flight abroad of a businessman charged with various crimes, an occurrence that led Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to denounce her, Afiuni reported that she was raped in a Caracas jail.

She became pregnant after the assault and underwent an abortion behind bars, Afiuni told the book’s author, Francisco Olivares.

Will someone ask the Judge what she thinks of Chavez?

u need to stop being blinded by propaganda and appreciate chavez for what he tried to do for his country, rather than what the US govt told the media.

if the Barbados govt cared for barbados the way he cared about his country we would be better off. he had always said and named quite a few leaders in the c’bean who had cancer and had accused the US govt of doing it

  17. The difference between Socialism and Capitalism is that Capitalists give their animals bigger fields so they dont actually see the fences.
The circle still closes at the same point with both.

  18. Hugo … I luvs yah … My Socialist brother. Your detractors will try to paint a picture that you used the poor as a pawn to gain prominence and ruin the wealthy. They may even want to throw in economic indicators and emigration figures to give the impression that you were running with high inflation and subsidized programs to facilitate favours to the loyal and discomfort for the wealthier classes, but I am of the impression that you took over a very corrupted environment and turned it on the culprits.

REST IN PEACE my Brother …!

One day you would appreciate the Carsons of this world. They are designed to whip people up. Unfortunately Carson’s view reflects that of BOTH political parties when it comes to dealing with Socialist leaders. They BOTH hold Jackass positions as they squirm so as NOT to offend the US and their officials at the local Embassy.

We now have evidence that the Zionist regime poisoned Arafat with polonium. Is it be possibility that their senior crime partner could be also involved in this? We will believe it until the devil proves its innocence.

  31. Pacha

There was never a need for proof in the case of Arafat considering the cowardly nature of his enemies.

The senior partner on the other hand has got so many SECRET operations and facilities that are funded on an annual basis with billions of dollars of tax payers money that deserve every once of suspicion that is targeted that them

  35. I won’t deny that the man did some good things for the poor in his country, but if he had spent more time governing rather than demagoguery he would have left a greater legacy. Imagine a country with so much oil reserves has just devalued their currency for the fifth time in 10 years and a murder rate that is the highest in the western hemisphere.

  36. Hugo Chavez the diseased president of Venezuela, may he rest in peace. This man who just died today was hated and demonized by America. The American elites didn’t like him because he wanted his nations oil and other resources to benefit the people, and not America’s greedy corporations. This man also fought hard to end racism and white minority rule in his own country of Venezuela. Before he came to power most politicians in his country were white descendants of the same people who massacred Indians and enslaved Africans. His ethnic background is Native Indian mixed with African, he was also proud of his African blood. So in honor of his memory I ask you not to believe the lies the American media has told you about this man.

  37. Hugo may u rest in peace. A man after my own heart interested in hemispheric matters, fought to esure that the power of those laitundias owners did not continue to explot the masses, a man commited to the redistribution of wealth and the upliftment of the poor.

REST IN PEACE U WILL BE SADLY MISSED.

  38. It is amazing the influence of the Western media in shaping our views.

  39. To those who criticise Chavez and his management of the economy, be careful. In many ways Venezuela’s rollacoaster economy is similar to Barbados, simply substitute oil for tourism and the fact that both countries import 70%. In addition Venezuela government supports a huge social program. It all comes down to fighting for the greenback.

and i suppose the wicked us govt cause that too. i would pass by the venezuelan embassy this moning to see if they are any barbadians or caribbean nationals waiting to apply for a visa to go to the uncorrupted ads o venezuela and cuba. babf, people like you should go and live in those fair lands where the downtrodden are well looked after. away with you.

  43. More nasstiness without thought in the comments.

In looking at Chavez, one must look at history. Simialarly to how Lenin et al who were demonised at the fall of the Soviet Union, similarly to how Castro has been demonised, one must look at the environment that created them.

Cuba, run wild by mafia cartels prior to Castro, Russia ruled by wealthy aritocracy, Venezuela, ruled by wealthy selfish carttels who left the poor in mud huts, all similar circumstances that resulted in a void being filled to counter the gross indifference in those nations, prior to the coming of those leaders.

In nature, there is always balance, too far one way, results in an equal and opposing force.

    THAT IS NATURE.

Thus, as long as the wealthy in Venezuela maintaiend the luxurious lifestyle at the explense of the masses, it was inevitable that someone like Chavez would come.

    It happened to be Chavez.

No doubt there will be an attempt to rekindle ways of the past now he is out of the way.

The thing is, the masses have been shown an altertnative, things may remain difficult to change, at least cheaply.

  44. @Moneybrain ‘Oil production and exports down BIG!!!”

    ———–

All that shows is that the large corporations cut their cooperation in dealing with his government.

Is it because he could not run it as you say, or because they refused to pay a fair price and wanted to rape the resources?

I would tend to say its more a matter of the large oil corporations exhibiting buyer power, as the expense of Venezuela.

But, granted, this is the attitude that bajan buyers need to / learn / develop / have, in discerning whether to buy the imported crap in the supermarkets.

Buyers power, as exhibited by large corporations.

  45. With the greatest respect, f*ck off, and while you are at it, get some help … with respect
your dirty mouth response speaks for it self as o who really needs the help. in cuba and vnezuela, you would be incarcerated and the key probably never found

  46. Balance-you should be ashame to attack Castro, how much of NUPW funds you spent running to cuba, and the cuban women you brought here to teach spanish ,you were a traitor from birth and shall be till you die ,there are no greater Dictators than you and your crooked friends at nupw .how many trips you organise to cuba .

these pople were not demonised. they ruled by the gun and fear.
