As many as twenty (20) employees out of work as a result of the dispute

This submission is purported to be written by a concerned staff member of Tropic Ice Unlimited Inc

For all of you who do not know yet, Tropic Ice Unlimited Inc. of Salters in St. George, Barbados has lost its battle with the Landlord for outstanding rents for the property from which it operates or used to operate.

This has resulted in the Landlord re-entering the premises, taking possession of the property and changing the locks to prevent all and sundry from gaining access into the building or conducting business with Tropic Ice Unlimited Inc. from that location.

As many as twenty (20) employees who turned up for work this morning discovered the Landlord’s actions, which included the above together with the placing barricades around the entire premises and affixing signs (notices) all around the perimeter stating that the property was Private Property and that trespassers would be prosecuted.

This will mean that not only employees but creditors and customers of Tropic Ice Unlimited as well are going to be monitoring developments closely within the next few weeks to see where they stand. Not surprisingly, the customers while affected by this major business interruption can always look for other suppliers of ice and bottle water but it’s the employees and creditors who could and most likely will be be most affected.

The Landlord has been at loggerheads with Tropic Ice Unlimited Inc. for the last couple of years as it sought to collect reportedly hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid rent from the Tropic Ice Unlimited Inc. A confidential source has revealed that sometime during the course of this month, the High Court of Barbados granted permission to the Landlord by way of of an Order to re-enter and take possession of the property for the unpaid rents.

The two major beneficial shareholders of Tropic Ice Unlimited Inc., Michael St. John and Chris McHale have been embroiled in bitter litigation for the last several years. These disputes centred around the fact that Tropic Ice Unlimited Inc. was operating from property at Salters owned by Michael St. John et al and who for all intents and purposes was (past tense) the Landlord. Michael St. John resigned from the Tropic Ice Unlimited Inc. in 2009 and has formed his own company, Glacial Pure and which now has a majority market share of the bagged ice and bottle water business in Barbados.

Chris McHale is busy with his dozen or so other matters in litigation.

  1. Congratulation Mr. St.John, the whole of Barbados thanks you for not allowing this man get away with nonsense.

  2. To: Mr. Christopher McHale

In time everything catches up with a man, for evil men it is even quicker. Have you no shame? I would not like to be you.

Goodbye Tropic Ice, it was nice knowing yah.

  3. Time to change to the BETTER supplier namely ISLAND ICE LTD.

  4. @ The Scout

Island Ice or Glacial Pure either will do, both should have a boose in sales over the coming days and weeks. It could not happen to a better person, that McHale character is evil personified.

  5. cabin fever
Isn’t Glacial Pure a breakaway company from Tropic Ice?

  6. @ The Scout

Before there was Tropic Ice Unlimited Inc, the ice business in Barbados was controlled mainly by two companies namely, Tropic Ice owned by Michael St. John and Ice Unlimited owned by Chris McHale, they merged both companies and rebranded as Tropic Ice Unlimited Inc.

The relationship between St. John and McHale was good for about the first 2 years, thereafter they apparently became bitter enemies and in 2009 Michael St. John left Tropic Ice Unlimited and formed Glacial Pure.

Upon merging the companies, the new entity Tropic Ice Unlimited operated from Salters in St. George, the property is owned by Michael St. John and therefore he is the landlord of Tropic Ice Unlimited.

The main bone of contention seems to be the fact that for several years Tropic Ice Unlimited refused to pay rent and McHale used every legal avenue to prevent the Landlord from re-entering the premises for unpaid rent. Unfortunately for McHale his lucky ran out this year and the court seems to have issued an order authorising the Landlord to re-enter, take possession and cease the assets of the company.

  7. Most pleased that Michael has gained the upper hand since some MOFOs need to be dealt with very severely and especially this one! I know for a fact that this guy is a bastard and sooner or later somebody is going to physically cripple his rass, he messed with other partners including a cousin of mine. I regret not living in Bim just so I could deal the licks financially speaking, when appropriate. Surprised that Michael has not dealt with him sooner.

  8. It is a pity that when the dust is settled on this issue 20 employees will be the ones to be suffer.

  9. @ David

It is regrettable that the employees are out of work. However that might not be the only problem they have as McHale is likely to whatever he can to ensure they don’t get what money is legally due to them. This man is SCUM.

  10. @Cabin Fever

What the employees are due is articulated under the law.

  11. @ David

You know full well that the LAW cannot make someone be honourable. The employees will join a long, very long list of people McHale has cheated in Barbados.

    Wait and you shall see!

According to the Nation News today, McHale operated Tropic Ice as chairman since 2008 and the company did not pay rent for the commercial building at Salters for the last 38 months, imagine that?

At Bds$10K a month, that is a Bds$380K. I don’t know but I see a fraud case coming sometime soon.

This should give people a little insight into the nature of the beast, CHRISTOPHER MCHALE..

  14. This is obviously the beginning of the end for McHale – perhaps he will do the decent thing, for once, and jump off the top of his appartment blocks that he hasn’t paid for yet. Then the police won’t have far to find a criminal.

  15. Such hatred for this man Mchale. I can’t think of what he has done to justify this. I almost got in business with him once albeit indirectly but luckily I was warned to avoid him by my lawyer and that advice I took. Thank God.

  16. Chris once told me, I don’t believe in God, I believe in the God of money. Given your troubles, here is a bit of good time honoured wisdom-

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You can not serve both God and Mammon.
    —Matthew 6:19-21,24

I looking for the bank to soon come for the condos, I expecting that any day now.

  20. A fitting result against a very bad person.

  21. all good things come to those that wait – many congratulations Mr St John

  22. @ Ladybird

    Well said.

How bad does a person like McHale have to be that people are pleased his company has closed even though innocent people on now on the breadline?

Perhaps Barbados is a tax haven for them. Down here they no longer are forced to pay huge contributions to the IRA or UDF.

  27. @ NIVET

As far as I know McHale is an englishman from Devon.

  28. This company should have been wound up in 3 weeks instead the legal system in Barbados has taken over 3 years, ably assisted by mr.Delay himself. This is not reasonable justice for St.John.

  29. Notunusual,

    Mr. Delay is Christopher McHale?

I would have thought that whichever bank has funded the condos he built would be looking closely to see how/if the closure of Tropic Ice affects Mr. McHale and or his companies credit risk worthiness/assessment.

Was McHale and or his companies (whichever ones) credit worthiness dependant on Tropic Ice Unlimited Inc continuing as a going and profitable concern?

  37. yes he did

  38. With a little intervention and appropriate antipsychotic medication a person can return a productive member of society. The problem with people who refuse to treat their acute and long-term bipolar disorder consistantly is that they believe they are normal and everyone else is crazy.

A bit of advice for him: STAY ON THE MEDICATION YOU BLASTED NUT-BUCKET. IF YOU STAY NORMAL STACY WILL MOVE BACK INTO THE BEDROOM.

i agree with u wholeheartedly but if that is true at Permit #40 | March 4, 2012 at 8:22 AM, then it could explain his character and dealings with people. i hope all things work for him. i am familiar with persons who have that illness and it is sad that people misunderstand them but they need someone who is constantly there to ensure they take their medication. we should be more caring and understanding

  41. WHY cant people simply do what is right, what is pure , what is virtuous ?
WHY do people continue to be fraudulent, corrupt and nasty ??
WHY do people have to behave in the manner that this man Mchale is behaving ??
WASNT he the one that called Prime Minister Sandiford an errant schoolboy ???

For you to ask that question indicates that you have not had to deal with a demented individual. Its always in the genes. Sometimes his face is so contorted with hatred its scary. Its impossible to defer the onset and pregress of dementia.

Speak to the guard at ocean reef, he has lots of stories of the strange behavior of the deranged McHale. 2am in the morning the CCTV shows him sneaking around the grounds ripping up the plants, pissing in the lobby and tossing stuff over the cliff.
