The unruly PSV sector continues to pillage on our society. Is it fair to state Barbadians have surrendered to the sub-culture which has become synonymous with the industry? We condemn the Royal Barbados Police Force under Commissioner Darwin Dottin who announced many moons ago he had declared war on our roads by introducing Operation Road Order Maintenance.

BU family member Inkwell in a previous blog provided a counter-analysis of the PSV sector which described the unruly behaviour as the outcome of a flawed government policy. The unwillingness of our authorities to implement the required governance structure gives anyone reasonable cause to question motive. Why would any government remain so impotent to act in the face of a sector which is wrecking havoc on the social fabric of our society?

Yesterday (9/23/2009) the Nation newspaper reported on a route taxi driver who was jailed for 1 year. Unbelievable but true a Dexter Smith despite although having had his license suspended for a year was able to commandeer a public service vehicle and in the process cause injury to 14 ZR passengers.

Here is the pertinent quote from the Nation report which lays bare the impotence of our authorities:

The 21-year-old route-taxi driver, of Whitehall, St Thomas, had just admitted he drove a vehicle while his driver’s licence had been disqualified; that he had no insurance; that he drove without due care and attention; dangerously; without reasonable consideration; and that he passed beyond the stop line, all on Sunday. He has 30 traffic convictions and has had his licence suspended on four occasions.

The above begs the question, how could this be? Where is the responsibility of the owner of the vehicle? Inkwell please advise on this matter. What are we missing? Shouldn’t the owner of any PSV be responsible for clearing the driver before handing over the keys? It is interesting to note the Magistrate convicted, reprimanded and discharged Smith for the other offences.

BU has outlined our concerns over several blogs about the ownership interest within the PSV sector by influential people. These people are able through their prominence or financial means to manipulate the system to achieve desired outcomes. The time has come for the David Thompson led government to institute the relevant policy framework to break the back of the indiscipline in the transportation sector which all agree has become institutionalized. Worrying is the trend that negative behaviours usually associated with the PSVs have started to appear at the Transport Board.

In a related story an Indian Journal has reported the results of a survey which concluded:

Indians are among the most corrupt, when doing business abroad to ‘speed things up’. The survey done by a non-governmental organization (NGO) called Transparency International India (TII) claims that Indian and Chinese firms play an active role in global business but engage in ‘bribery’ when doing business abroad.

The BU family has been crying in the wilderness about the non-Barbadian forces which are starting to corrupt the way of life our forefathers have slaved to build. It saddens the BU household when the current generation of educated Barbadians would remain idle while the Barbadian brand disappears.

You see that post in that Indian Journal about Indian being the most corrupt, that desrves an entire article by itself.

This what is happening in all our government institutions,be it Immigration,Police,Ministry of Transport,Judiciary,Parliament…… you name it.

Remember Juman who killed his wife and got off lightly and while in Prison he was able to get his private food brought in?,

Remember Brother Scout recently told us about a surge of guyanese marrying bajans to get citizenship?

Rember Negroman tells us about the pakistani man who boasts about taking meat every week to david thompson?

We need an article if we are to really explore the impact of the increasing presence in our society.

  2. Further evidence of the deterioriation in the quality of behaviour of Barbadian society which Barbadians seem generally, too apathetic to do anything about. I warn u, if ur not careful, that Bim will be like another Jamaica in a few years time and, of course, u invite those people there, too. You have been warned!!

  4. If I had my way, the first thing I’d do with Dexter is (a) cut e backside and then (b) shave all e hair off an compel e to wear a decent hairstyle an all d udda rest uh rastas bout day!! That’s the way to instill law and order!!

  5. Commissioner Darwin Dottin is the worst commissioner Barbados has ever had.. ineffective and mindless. The problem is that all the others over the past forty years share the same traits!

    @ David

English, US and Canadian concerns are just as guilty of making under the counter offers to politicians and political parties. How do you think the highway expansion and prison projects were won? What do you think has happened in the background to allow for the shameless development on the West Coast? Come on people Allen Stanford was not born in Mumbai. Closer home how was COW Williams able to succeed with so many Government projects?

  6. So long as Barbadian children leave school in droves without any form of qualifications or skills and without a future, they will consider that the society cares nothing about them and in return they care nothing about this society. Jail today is a vacation and those guys will come out and do it all over again.

    This problem is systemic.

  7. Why go with some dubious India Transparency study when the reputed Transparency International studies are there, http://www.transparency.org/policy_research/surveys_indices/cpi/2008? What kind of national study would wish to find its own people as the worst in the world? Dig deeper, people. Much deeper. Look at the TII Executive Committee. That look like a normal organization to you?

  8. BBC Report: Corruption “stifling economies”.

    SNIP

Among the specific findings, the report said that almost two out of five businesses surveyed had been asked to provide government officials with bribes.

And half of the international businesses executives polled estimated that corruption added at least 10% to project building costs.

Tackling corruption is also important for financial and economic stability and the ongoing reforms of the global financial architecture,” the report said.

The report said that clear-cut bribery was only part of the problem.

It pointed to nepotism, favouritism and informal understandings between businesses, officials and politicians in many places that led to inefficiency and gross waste of resources.

Why David are you targeting the Indians again?

How much money did Clico contribute to the DLP campaign two years ago?
How much money did COW, Neal and Massey, Gillespe and Steel, Jada and ANSA Mcal contribute to both campaigns?

Do you not think that One Caribbean Media and the Advocate dabbles in such affairs as well?

This is Democracy at work. Not the hairy fairy nonsense that is preached about freedom and so on.

  10. @BAFBFP

We are not attacking any ethnic group. BU has pointed out the need for Barbadians to understand the effect different ethnic groups in Barbados is having on our social landscape.

Who owned the PSV the convicted driver above was driving?

To what extent a particular ethnic group in Barbados has control of a significant PSV population?

  11. @ROK: “Jail today is a vacation and those guys will come out and do it all over again.

Even worse than that… They will come out of jail better trained in the art of criminal behavior!

Can anyone tell me if there are any vocational training opportunities available to inmates in Barbados?

Are there any job placement programs for just released inmates here in Barbados?

The indians who own the minibuses do not send their children to travel on these buses.

Their young daughters are not forced to have to be subjected to these foul music
and lewd sexual behaviour on these mini buses.

Obviously black people are not seen by these indians as being anything other than consumers for what the indians sell,as means to getting the indians rich.

    When will my people learn?

  13. @MU&BB
I don’t believe any Indian forcing black children to get on a ZR or Minibus. The issue is about enforcing THE LAW and I am particularly speaking of the Courts inablitity to hand out serious punishments to people who break the law. Soon we will have people dishing out thier own justice.

  14. Somebody forcing the black drivers and ticket takers to behave in such a lewd and lascivious way? Somebody forcing dem to play foul music? No, they do it by choice and of their own free will. If anything, the Indian owners are guilty of not having the guts to rein in these fellas.

  15. Indians own ur mini-buses!! lor!! They’ll soon own the whole of Bim!!

  16. mash up & buy back Avatar
    mash up & buy back

    Crossroads

I was waiting for that response.

Can you understand however the bigger point I am making?

The owner of the minibus who employed this driver is understood to be an indian.

A large percentage of the owners of the mini buses and other public transportation are indians.

For years the public of Barbados cried out against the behaviour of the drivers and conductors.

We were told some members of the police force own mini buses and there nothing will be done on their buses. However we were also told that these owners have been demanding that an unreasonable amount of money every day be brought in from the driver before the driver and conductor can get any money to take home.

These indian owners hear the complaints about how these workers rush and break the laws just to meet this quota, yet these very indians who are mostly muslim, who tell us the barbadian public about being a good muslim – yet they see nothing wrong with being part of the problem rather than the solution.

They refuse to pay these drivers a good day’s pay and disband this quota system.

They deliberately recruit a particular type of person to run their buses because they believe that is what will ensure they get maximum profits.

Do you think these indian owners care what happen on their buses,or that the driver in question had his license suspended 4 times?

When will you understand what is happening to black bajans in their own country by persons who came here poor and with just 2 valises.

They demand that the school uniform be changed to accomodate their children.

They had special access to the former minister of public works glyne clarke, and were ablle to get multiple licenses.

They are known to bribe public officers to get their way,and corrupt any society they go to.

Open your eyes people, and see the forest from the trees.

For those who are ignorant of these facts and the subtle way our society is being changed in a negative way by the way indians operate, then we must ensure that their eyes are opened.

  17. Mash Up & Buy Back
The Indian rat catcher/mango sellers have corrupted & are destroying Barbados thanks to the Black human waste we have as politicians in both the discredited & corrupt Democratic Labour Party & Barbados Labour Party.

In Barbados we have that stinking Indian old fart who has interest in Furniture Limited who has broken every law in Barbados by bribing both the Barbados Labour Party & Democratic Labour Party governments. She has bribed them by donating ambulances, fire trucks, hospital equipment and other stuff to our governments so as to get her way in Barbados. That is why that stinking Indian old fart & scum can block the road in Bay Street, break all our labour laws, verbally & sometimes physically assault Black Barbadian workers.I would never forget when that Indian old fart physically manhandled her female workers who at time worked at Opelika Garment Factory in the early 1980’s.

In Barbados we have an Indian who caught rats in India as job bragging and boasting about having the cellphone number of our present Prime Minister and is bribing him by giving him all types of meat on weekends.I want to continue to make that point to reinforce the hold those rat catchers/mango sellers have on our bribe taking politicians.

I know of many cases where Indians in Barbados abuse our local Police Force and when our local Police Officers try to enforce our laws either traffic, civil or criminal those Indian rat catchers/mango sellers abused, cursed and even in some instances physically assault our Police Officers. There is nothing those officers could do because many of the police vehicles those officers are driving are donated by the rat catcher/mango sellers.

Mash Up & Buy Back there will always be total disregard for our road traffic regulations by ZR & Mini-bus drivers because of the influence the rat catcher/mango sellers have on our leaders .Until Barbados get strong leadership from a Race conscious leader who will not be control by powerful financial elites in Barbados the existing problems in our transportation system will remain.

This country must be rid of all Indians, those from India,Pakistan,Guyana & Trinidad.

Mash Up & Buy Back and all conscious Black Barbadians boycott all Indian businesses

  18. @Negroman…

While I am always willing to fight for your (and everyone’s) right to have your say, I will not always agree with what you say…

I would counter your above with the sentiment that the “rule of law” should be obeyed and enforced by everyone.

Further, I would argue that *no* *one* is above the law.

    @Negroman…

You constantly bring race into the agreement.

Have you considered that perhaps there are simply some who are more aggressive and efficient and driven (and wealthy) than you?

    Is this necessarily wrong?

Does the world owe you wealth?

  20. @BU Family…

If I may… Two very important axioms I was taught as a very young child:

    Chris Halsall

While I will not be so bold as to speak for Negroman,I will dare to give my interpretation of what I think he is saying.

I don’t think Negroman believes any member of any race owes him or black people anything, but he seems to be opposed to their naked agenda to scorn, use and abuse black people while at the same time, trying to get every last cent from out of black people hands.

He is trying to educate those so called bourgeois blacks about the power they hold in their spending power and their vote.

Indians,Jews, chineese and all the other races love to have retail businesses where there are large numbers of blacks living.

Their aim is to sell them inferior goods at the maximum price possible.

I am so tired of people who want to pretend like they don’t understand what is happening, and I don’t necessarily mean you Chris.

Unless black people become appreciative of who they are,and understand that not every one but as a general rule – most persons from the other race somehow think they are superior to black people and think blacks are only there to be someone servant,or to sing and entertain them, to be an athelete,or to be a nanny to their children or most importantly to buy whatever they have for sale then we will be spinning top in mud.

The most sickening sight for me is that of young and middle aged black professional men and women aping the behavious of wealthy whites.

    So sad.

We have to take the humps and grumps that you get with our own blacks while we drag them kicking and screaming into the reality of NOT HATING ANYBODY,but being wise how to live in this world.

Think one step ahead, and support your people first every time.

  22. Chris Halsall I respect & admired your fair-minded approach to many of the issues discussed on this blog.I think you are the decent type of white or near white individual going from the picture attached .

Mr Halsall I am not talking about the accumulation of wealth, neither am I talking about the efficiency of any particular ethnic group in tthe manging of businesses.I sense you are are taking a jab or implying that Black People and maybe in particular Black Barbadians are not competent & efficient business.

Mr Halsall I am trying to make the point like many of the other bloggers about the ingratitude of the invaders of Black Barbaos and the utter contempt, disrespect and hatred those bastards have for Black People.Mr Halsall Black Barbadians are being subject to the worst possible treatment by those invaders who we allowed into Barbados and have gave them the opportunity to establish themselves.Mr Halsall there are many instances where those bastards have treated Black Barbadians in the worst possible way.

Mr Halsall if you want to be accept it or not this is is racist world and despite the fact that people like you do not want to accept that harsh reality that is the type of world we are living in today. The Europeans do things in the interest of Europeans, the Jews are doing things in the interest of Jews, likewise the Chinese, the Arabs and all the other ethnic groups of this world with the exception of Black People. It seems that it is okay for the other ethnic groups to to do things to preserve their survival, but for Black People it is a different story.

Mr Halsall I am sensing a situation similar to Sudan in Africa developing in Barbados..Barbados is a Fiji in the making or even a Tanzania,Mauritius or even a Guyana.

The time might not be that far away where a Black Barbadian Hitler might be needed in Barbados.

  23. @MUBB…

I copy, appreciate, and understand, your above.

And please understand that I also appreciate Negroman, although I don’t often agree with exactly what he says.

But, with respect, I take exception to your: “Their aim is to sell them inferior goods at the maximum price possible.

Have you considered that perhaps “they” are simply offering goods at the best prices they can, in the hopes of providing for their families?

    Just like everyone else?

Are those who dare to offer lower prices to their customers compared to their competitors necessarily evil?

    I would argue no.

  24. As a former Canadian now resdining in the USA… our First nations Peoples (natives, indians) did indeed receive appologies for past atroscities committed against them. There was financial restitution made from Government… however most importantly … our Fist Nations People are now self-governing, in most cases they maintain their own Schools, Hospitals, Police Forces, they have created self sustaining income through development on their lands… shopping centers, casino’s….and although they are self governing… they can and often do chose to leave their land and integrate in Canada as a whole. First Nations Historical Museums are attended by persons from all over the world and well respected, several First Nations people hold high positions in the Canadian Provincial and Federal Goevernment. There are numerouus radio & television stations that are soley owned & operated by First Nations persons… they are NOT forced to remain on Reservations, nor are they targeted by Swine Flu epidemics or any other form of race-detrimation…. they are human beings … they are Canadians… they are a contributing part of (and a valued part of) Canada as a whole. Of course it wasn’t always this way… and of course there are pockets of Fisrt Nations persons that suffer as in any race… more through economic reasons than anything else. The statistics related to rise of any illness on First Nations land is indicative of their natural and understandable need to return to their home community .. their family in a time if need, to recover… to be surrounded by their families and traditions. The diseases are caught in the major cities… the violance is in the major cities… it is a healing path to return to their beliefs & culture. First Nations person can go to any school, College or University free of charge. Canada is not perfect and it has been a long time coming for our First Nations persons to regain the dignity and pride that had once been beaten down on them through years of racism and whites trying to convert them to meet “their needs”… but it IS happening. Self Governement was a major step to taking their rightful place in the world.

  25. @Mr. Negroman: “Mr Halsall if you want to be accept it or not this is is racist world and despite the fact that people like you do not want to accept that harsh reality that is the type of world we are living in today. The Europeans do things in the interest of Europeans, the Jews are doing things in the interest of Jews, likewise the Chinese, the Arabs and all the other ethnic groups of this world with the exception of Black People.

Mr. Negroman… (May I call you Mr. Negroman?)

    1. I accept that there is still racism on our beloved earth.

1.1. Believe it or not, I have personally experienced racism as a white man.

1.2. I am not comfortable with racism.

    2. I personally feel that you (and yours, and *many*, *many* others) personally map too much energy upon anyone who is not your personal colour, race, sex, or religion.

2.1. I would be willing to accept that you have been encouraged to do this, by students of Machiavelli.

    3. I would argue that dispute all our differences, we must all live together on a rather small sphere.

3.1. I would further argue that perhaps we are *all* closer to each other than we would like to admit.

So, in closing from my immediate above…

Just how might we do this?

  26. I was in a yard which is owned by a muslim and these minibuses came in blaring music. That is the first time I recognized that these fancy painted up buses were owned by Indians.
They know that the drivers play slack lyrics on their buses. The point is they allow our school children to be fed all kinds of dirty lyrics on mornings and evenings while they children go to the mosque to pray.
I am getting very upset with the DLP because nothing really changed with the perception of corruption.
The management of the Royal Barbados Police Force is poor. There is no coverage of our road network by patrols. You can drive all along the routes that are popular and don’t see any police to stop the lawless behavior.
Minibuses still stop side and side by Sheraton and talk for long periods
The worst news report was about robberies in town. They now say they will patrol. Is this an afterthought?

  27. Indians would n’t be allowed to own mini buses or any other major infra-structural component, during my administration!!

  28. I’ve only one reservation here which is, would Indians run the organisation (any organisation) more efficiently than blacks would and to the greater benefit of consumers?

  29. The minibus issue is a simple one of regulation and enforcement. If we can’t do that, how on earth can we regulate insurance and financial entities, that seem to have a near reckless disregard for the the rules governing their operation?

  30. (I copied his statement for this comment section) NOTE: He failed to mention the Maori Aboriginals that were there BEFORE the country was “developed by White Christians”
    ———————————————

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd – Australia

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation’s mosques.
Quote: ‘IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians’.

‘This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom’. ‘We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!’

‘Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.’

‘We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.’

‘This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom,

    ‘THE RIGHT TO LEAVE’.’

‘If you aren’t happy here then LEAVE. We didn’t force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted..’

  31. INMHO , The Dottin led Royal Barbados Police Force has failed miserably because of poor leadership.

A complete rarity in the world of politics, a PM who actually proudly spoke the very thoughts of his constituents

  34. Just one question, Nancy. Do you think the Maori give one damn about the Muslims?

  35. If coolly men depended on me for a living they would die. I saw my mother and father in my teenage years constantly paying for things that seems never to come to an end. I made a pledge that I would never fall into that trap. They just drive past my house like it is not there. Now you know that I do not live in the Heights because they do not go there.
Why don’t muslims in Barbados speak out about those muslims who only purpose on earth is to kill innocent persons by way of terrorism?

He failed to mention that the country started with crooks sent out their from England too.

However I like their stand on idiots who migrate to other peoples country and want to change the inhabitants.

In my sojourn i the USA, I dont plann to, nor do I try to change the ways of the Americans.

    BAFBPF

Man the Australians can do what they want to in thier country. I dont want to go there. In fact I dont want to go anywhere that persons dont want me to go because of my colour, creed or convictions. Soon I will even stop comming here, because every time I declare my creed and convictions I a unnecessarily attacked.

  41. Prof,

Man they will accept you in Australia on your creed and convictions. Two out of three ain’ too bad.. LOL

GP your convictions will take a beating from commentators but you got to admit that people hold Doctors in awe ‘bout hey. Most of these commentators worship the ground you walk on, even though you ruff up a lotta dem..Ha ha. You get way wid murder sometimes.. seems like they enjoy punishment as long as it is coming from you!

  42. @BU.David: “You don’t agree the ensuing dialogue is our way of dealing with it?

    Sure.

But at some point serious people (I almost said “real men”) will get past the tears and the whining, and get on with their lives…

(These same serious people will also be, of course, documenting and preparing their arguments and evidence to be presented to an international court of law for the wrongs done against them.)

  43. So Chris

What is your true agenda for fighting with the Barbados Light and Power?

  44. @Chris

Why do you think after all this time a good case would not have been presented to the international court?

  45. BAFBFP
I posted that speech not because I condone it or denounce it, I just wanted to bring to light that the Government in Australia is stating LOUD & CLEAR for the world to know what their position is regarding Immigrants to their Country.

…. “am I proud of my Christian brothers”? NO. Australia has one of the worst histories …..

I am impressed however that this speech was made…. broadcasted…. and makes no apologies their position. No “swing” put on it…

You better behave before I call down fire from heaven—–you know how I mean too LOL

BAFBFP I agree with Nancy above

  47. BAFBFP
Why did you not refute the fact that the muslims in Barbados who owned minibuses helped to corrupt the minds of our children by allowing their vans to play dirty lyrics on those vans. Especially the ones on the west coast routes.
I agree with the Australian Prime Minister. You cannot feel safe in your country when persons are planning suicide attacks against your people. You cannot tell me that the good muslims do not know about some of their brothers who are planning these attacks.
I am putting it to you that every mosque in the US is under surveillance. Why? Because the US government is not going to trust, even the good muslims again.
For example if the FBI did not catch the latest plan to bomb subways in the US maybe some of my family and friends could have been killed.

Seems to me that in the context that you have responded “I am impressed” and “I am proud” are six and half dozen. Of course the wider point is that Christians should be at the forefront in chastising such behavior and should be distancing themselves from such “Un-Christian” remarks and mindsets…!

Strange how those who are quick to call upon christians to distance themselves from unchristian remarks, are loathe to do the same for those muslims clerics and jihadists and other muslim fanatics who make evil and dangerous statements.

Now why would this be so?
