We read the above advertisement by the O’Level Institute placed in today’s Nation newspaper. We found it to be awe inspiring. The story although a credit to Mr. Crawford speaks to the qualities of the average Barbadian. The late Errol Barrow had the vision for Barbados of using free education to enfranchise the people. Time and again in our post-independence era we have been tested as a people, and we have always found a way to leverage the quality of our human resources to keep the ship afloat. After the last two days with the BU family battling the immigration issue it was a breath of fresh air to read of Mr. Crawford’s achievement.

Congratulations Mr. Crawford, you have done Barbados and yourself proud.

    Mac Fingall should be congratualted as well. People often see Mac as the comic but his role at Lodage School in the 90’s and early 00’s should not be forgotten. He helped them back up when that school was struggling big time.

    Sure it does. We are not inspired by the so called common man in the street improving himself. Theres is no gossip to be found there. If he was stealing some one’s chickens or raping some young girl, then we would have a myriad of rersponses, Im sure.

    I knew about this story for a while and it shows that regardless of your socio-economic background if you have the ability you can make it. I commend him.

    This story is not new. It was big news when he got his first degree. It was all over the press at that time. It was even on the Bim Forum, if I am not mistaken.

    Actually Pat we think the story is not time related at all. In the BU household we regard it as an inspirational story full stop.

    This is truly an inspiring story. It’s unfortunate that it wont generate the kind of debate like those on race, politics and nasty gossip and innuendo.

    I gave my salutations and congratulations on the Barbados Forum site at the time of his graduation. If I recall, he did his degree in record time. Something like two years. There was also comment when he started to teach at Lodge, either on the Forum or at BFP.

    It shows what I have always said…….it is NEVER too late to learn.
    Congratulations Mr. Crawford, we are all proud of you!
    Kudos to Mr. Fingall and the staff at The Lodge School for believing in and supporting Mr. Crawford’s intelligence!
    I hope that we who are parents take the lesson that life does not end with common entrance exams. Life does not end if you attend a “newer secondary school”. Anyone can achieve if they have the right support.
