  1. BU these songs are smut.

  2. Not impress so far. Krosfyah and lil rick songs are partial recompositions of a previous one. Hope it gets better.

  3. Agree with you Adrian. Given the age group of the BU household we have to admit that the version of social commentary is much the more satisfying part of the calypso art for for us.

  4. I have been trying to fashion an appropriate response to the three comments above and I really dont know where to start. Yes I have plenty to say about calypso in Barbados. I have been involved in calypso for a long time now as a House of Soca performer and more recently as as a recording artiste and songwriter.

At the present moment, I am not happy with airplay on the various stations. There are many songs that I am not hearing on the radio at this time but I can turn on my radio and hear a lot of foreign music, a lot of back-in time american songs of no particular merit. This angers and confuses me. Some persons are making excuses not to play our music.

    SONGS ARE SMUT:
Which of the above songs are smut
How can you make a blatant unfair statement like that. This comment by Anonymous sums up the approach, the dismissive approach to things bajan including music. Again I ask: which songs are smut ?-

    PARTIAL RECOMPOSITIONS :
This comment calls for an explanation. Again the comment is dismissive and injurious to our music only because it is localmusic. That is the only reason:

    SOCIAL COMMENTARY MORE SATISFYING:
The problem with social commentary in Barbados is that since 1982 and plastic bag with sugar made us free and mr Harding, social commentary has meant slow, draggy songs. This effectively mash up the semifinals show and as a result less of it has been recorded.

  5. The BU family was on the road this afternoon and had reason to tune into a show hosted by Admiral and Larry Mayers. Two observations, Admiral was very abusive towards Calypsonian PJ and Announcer was very lucid in explaining many shortcomings in the judging system.

  6. Oh Admiral is going to get you David !

    You dare challenge Admiral.

You dont know what you are risking boy

I heard some of the exchange between Admiral and PJ , something that goes back to last year or even before. Admiral probably sees PJ as someone he could diss and get away with it. I am sure that Red Plastic Bag would not have been treated the same way. Herin lies the problem

I am very confused about the direction music is going in Barbados, vey confused and sorry I might add.

  7. We have a lot of respect for Admiral’s knowledge of the calypso business but he must remember that based on the interviewee he has to temper his bias and ensure that professionalism prevails at all times.

Admiral you are on national radio!

It would be good if he were to come to the blogosphere but then again the blogosphere is not for the thin skin people.

  8. It certainly appears to me that he loves to hear his annoying voice.

Let me also suggest to this clown that they are many other opinions other than his that have major merit.

From all reports the events being held are by far the most well attended and supported events for many years, so what is his issue ?

I think it is a non issue but an issue only to the idiot the admiral.

  9. wishing in vain

deal with the issue -dont cuss the man

somebody has written a song called -assmiral–

cant remember who singing it, so he will get

deal with —ha ha ha ha ha ha

some body say that admiral always looking for trouble—-and that –he said at the beginning that he was not going to play Contone and PONG -but after seeing the guys at the cavalcade , he change he mout–the crowd was with them so he want their fans to be his now.

some people want admiral to be banned from the radio —

    i dont know

  10. Music isbeing censored in barbados

There is call to play more local music

I Asiba -The Buffalo Soldier want to publicly appeal to anyone out there who has the finance to back me in opening a real bajan radio station that would really promote barbados and barbados music and artistes.

I have the concepts and ideas, I have the necessary cultural background and academic experience to make a real bajan radio station work . All I need is finance beacause ideas without finance do not stand a chance

  11. I don’t particularly care for a lot of music that plays on air…But I would say rather than take the top 20, skim through the music and see for yourself what sounds” good to you. Stabby, for example, is popular but obviously it’s not a ‘good’ song. Natahlee’s, “Sun Til Sun,” Khiomal’s, “Til Mornin,” Edwin’s, “That’s My Carnival,” or Mr. Dale’s, “Til Um Done,” are a good place to start.
