unknown-96.jpgI wish to say that Bush tea is not politically a partisan. (This is for personal, selfish reasons. I am already committed to a national cause much higher than any party, group or friendly society. I would equally have wished Owen Arthur well and offered genuine advice for his success as PM….(and I actually did, but that is another story.)

My instincts are that PM David Thompson will be the best Prime Minister that Barbados has ever had (and this is even without any advice from Bush tea). He has all the requirements, he has been well prepared through his time ‘in the wilderness’, he has matured excellently and he has a great family structure.

(… oh wait, did I mention that he is a full 100% Combermerian? As is his wife?)

David,

SERVICE

Remember that you offered to serve Barbados when you applied for this job. There are two points here :SERVE is the OPPOSITE to rule. Every morning, when you wake up, remember that the great power you have is solely for the purpose of empowering this country, especially the weak and poor.

Second point- serve ALL Barbados.

-DO NOT LOOK at the ballots to see who voted for you. “BARBADOS” DID!

-Use ALL of this country’s BEST brains- and you do not need to buy their political loyalty or bribe them to do this. Use Commisong and let him stay in his PEP. Use the best of the BLP performers – and let them remain BLP (You have the wisdom, self confidence and tact to do that…It will be well worth the effort.)

DELEGATE

You have a GREAT team with you. USE THEM. Leave yourself free to do the REALLY important things

– like walking around and seeing for yourself what is happening.

– like communicating with your various publics and LISTENING to their (foolish) concerns

– like making sure that your ministers, Boards and other delegates are operating according to you and your party’s philosophy – especially that they are Honest, Fair and impartial in their dealings.

– Like developing and selling a VISION for the future. One that Bajans can buy into and join you and your team.

DISCIPLINE

Set high standards for your people and ENFORCE them. Be quick to show intolerance for wrong-doing and dis-honesty.

The Higher the level of Authority you have given, the less patience you must show for dishonesty, graft, bribery and all unrighteousness.

…but be patient with your foes (‘cuddear’…you must know how Liz and dem must feel, you went through it…) Give them some slack, even listen to their curses and respond if they actually have good points.

DEVELOPMENT

David, you have taken the mantle when Barbados and the world is about to undergo the most difficult times that have ever been experienced… believe me.

All those promises about lowering the cost of living, providing opportunities etc should have been premised with “if the world situation remains stable”.

This country’s chance to go into this period of difficulties in a healthy position was squandered in cost over runs, Millions spent on CSME, years of neglecting AGRICULTURE and LOCAL INDUSTRY etc.

The BLP opted instead for prostitution in the form of selling ourselves to the highest bidder (that always works for a while if you are pretty…)

Your Job is to restore PRIDE IN BARBADOS FOR BARBADIANS and those who choose to come here and BECOME 100% Bajan too.

Do not make promises about being ‘first world’ – Promise to restore pride and independence (pay a visit to ‘Lowdown’ and carry long a pork –cutter and some mauby for details on this philosophy.)

FINALLY FOR NOW

Life on earth is nothing but a temporary sojourn – the real purpose is so phenomenal and beautiful that these issues pale into insignificance. However, Putting God first helps you to place many things into proper perspective. Your public Thanksgiving service this Sunday is a brilliant start. Don’t be afraid to continue to seek God’s guidance in all you do…and when things get rough –sing quietly to yourself the school’s anthem (I don’t mean the school song as you know, but “To be a pilgrim”.

“….mighty undertaking here, up and on, up and on..”

I hope you do not listen to bush tea and he nonsense. Who said dat dese people can be trusted. I think yah should embrace everyone, but dat doesn’t say you have to give them employement. Surround yourself wid people dat you can trust.
    All de best skipper.

  3. Bush Tea has given some good advice here.

  4. Of course he has to surround himself with people he can trust but at the same time if the country is to move forward we will have to adopt a non-partisan approach to matters of national interest. We can think of health, education etc. As a young man 46 years old he has to find a way to encourage contributions from Barbadians, forgetting colour, race, creed or political affiliation.

  5. Wah foolishness is dis?

  6. David
By de way, I was addressing de new PM David. Anyway, wunna love to throw ’round dat word non-partisan to suit wunna needs. I sey if David can find a few whites, indians and chinese he can trust hire dem. But given de nature of de society we talking ’bout I sey he still got to keep de electorate in mind. Now you tell we David on de blog, you tink dat de average man running round Barbados gine tek kindly to de PM hiring a tourism minister from Turkey or some other country?

  7. Educated Bajan ~ please do not stretch the point which we are making. If Thompson and his team wishes to build a new economy built on services and he feels that a Singaporean would bring that expertize why should he pigeon hole himself into recruiting someone who fits some stereotype?

Time to wake up and smell the coffee!

  8. Hiring Loveridge would be the same mistake as relying on that Chapo/Boxill poll.

The Jamaican experience does not apply to us.

The British experience does not apply to us.

    Please keep Bajan politics Bajan.

  9. Good advise Bust Tea. I think we can say that on Jan 15 Barbados took a dose of bush tea the led to a cleansing of the body politic. 😀 we still need to have the forensic investigationS.

Too late and keeping up appearances don’t put money in our pockets.

  11. Can anyone tell me why the prime minister’s planned 8:00 pm address to the nation was cancelled? Is it tomorrow night and if so at what time will it be broadcast?

And why is BU blocking people from asking about it?

I hear some people talking all sorts of nonsense. What is really going on please?

  12. I hear that his wife is a St. Lucian.

You know how these Bajan men prefer de foreign women.

  13. Reasonable position Educated Bajan, but have you considered the desired end state?

There may be some BLP people that actually love Barbados; are actually competent and may possibly be the best person suited to fill certain positions….
This is a small country and leadership and expertise is vital to final success.

I suggested that we should seek the best that we have to fill these posts – not persons from Turkey…. but as leader of ALL Barbados the PM must not overly limit his options.

A real mature leader is one that recognizes that not everyone agrees with everything he says or does and who in turn is able to deal with different personalities, ideologies, classes and creeds. I don’t know how ‘educated’ you are, but I am convinced that the PM would be able to do this.

Companies (and even families) all over the world operate with persons of different political persuasions working side by side and this has not been a problem for the Management…

finally, consider the message of unity and genuine NATIONAL spirit that this would send to all Barbadians…..

The Tourism Minister is as Barbadian as any of us and he is very deserving of his posting, he is a very sharp bright person so unlike the Brand name suit clown Noeless Blarney Lynch.

He also is a very hard worker so unlike Lynch so yes our Ministry of Tourism is in fine hands.

May I also take this time to extend my best wishes to he and all the others that have been recently appointed.

  15. Bush Tea,

Why do I get the feeling that your post is an indication that there is REAL BIG TROUBLE in the DLP camp tonight?

People are whispering that he is smelling hell to find suitable ministers and everybody fighting real bad between DEM-selves.

Who is de body that come outta de meeting crying long long tears?

  16. We like to say “Keep this Bajan and Keep dat Bajan” when it suits us, dont we. Yet in the last 30 years we have deeply imported all kinds of wrong behaviors and thinking from the USA especially. We sont went anything British, but we are always talking about what the Americans do, as if the Americans are sitting on the glassy sea with the four and twenty elders.

There is merit in Bush tea’s suggestion. You and I would do it in running our business. We would seek advice from folk whom we can trust or from those with a good reputation for service. Why cant the people’s buisness be run the same way.

If we conducted the people’s buisness as we do our own, we might do much better.

There are many Bajans in all walks of life who can make a contribution to the running of the country who will not join a political party or run for public office. Are you saying that we should refuse to ask them advice or deny thier contribution?

Thier is nothing wrong with the PM asking counsel of any one, and then sitting and contemplating the best move before implementing the best idea or the best combination of ideas submitted.

Exactly what is your point, I seem to have missed you and what message you were trying to spread???

That is the best advice you have given since contributing to these blogs !

    See what a threat to PRISON……does ???

Too bad doh….you gine still get lock up !!!!!

  19. Wishing in Vain,

And who is this tourism minister whose name you seem afraid to reveal or speak?

De Guyanese getting de low jobs and now de British getting de top ones?

SPEAKING AS A BAJAN I AM NOT PLEASED ABOUT THAT!

  20. I did not vote DLP in order to make some FOREIGN WHITE MAN the minister of tourism!

If what I have been hearing is true, then the DLP has truly BETRAYED me. I don’t know anybody called Loverage. Who the hell is he? Never heard about him until today.

What happened to all the well-educated and loyal Bajan people who have served the DLP faithfully over the years?

I am VERY FURIOUS about this!

    Bush Tea,

Who is de body that come outta de meeting crying long long tears?
    ==============================
Why should anyone come out of a meeting crying long tears Maureen. Unless they thought too highly of themselves.

Why do you get the feeling that Bush tea’s post is an indication that there is REAL BIG TROUBLE in the DLP camp tonight? Is that what you want? Bush tea’s suggestion is reasonable, and one that sensible folk use in contemplating any complex task.

You say that people are whispering that he is smelling hell to find suitable ministers. You mean the recently elected folk are more useless than the last set of fellas we had? Like Rommel, Rawle Eastmond etc

  22. Wishing in Vain Avatar

Actually Maureen or whatever you really are, I find your comments immature, childish and stupid.

When you grow up and have something to communicate (exchange and chat about
just in the event that communicate was above your level of comprehension) with, I would cease and splewing your utter garbage.

  23. Georgie Porgie,

Alright for you to talk. Then you would be sitting down in America complaining that the government in Barbados hiring foreigners and would not give people like you a job.

David Thompson better think again about that. Who the hell is Loverage? I don’t believe this!

  24. Maureen are you suggesting that faithful service to a political party is the only qualification necessary for appointment at the highest level?

  25. Bush Tea, that was very good advice.
I have noticed something though. Every body advising the new PM, but your advice real cool.
I can understand now why the previous government was fired. Nobody could tell them anything, well at least they did not seem to be listening.
My advice to the PM if he has a listening ear is to use it and listen to his fellow B’dians, and talk with them too. Share the joys and the pains. Do not let any more distance than is necessary develop between you and the people of B’dos.
Seems we are going to have a love affair with you on these blogs, since we all (most of us, never mind BFPE)want you to succeed and because your success will also be our success.
Take your time and do things right the first time. Be slow to speak, words cannot be recalled.
Five years will be a long time or a short time depending on what happens during the time.

  26. Wishing in Vain,

You poppet! Let me tell you something, see? It was my X that put you in power and it will be my X that will take you out too.

I am only waiting for the next Brass Tacks to open my mouth WIDE WIDE WIDE and you will hear me EVERY DAY ON BRASS TACKS until then.

How can we be appointing foreign white people as ministers in this day and age? What has Barbados come to?

If this is what you mean by “time for change” then this is one change that will have to change!

I am waiting till Sunday and if I see any foreign white minister I will NEVER VOTE FOR THE DLP AGAIN!!!

  27. ha ha ha haha GP and WIV why do you find it neccesary to respond to these new name doppelgangers? chuuupppssse

  28. Maureen // January 18, 2008 at 9:15 pm

    Georgie Porgie,

Alright for you to talk. Then you would be sitting down in America complaining that the government in Barbados hiring foreigners and would not give people like you a job.
    ==============================
You are so right Maureen. Thats what the BLP government did. It give a foreigner the job that I acted in for years with great competence for many years to a foreigner- a job which the man’s wife told me that she and he hated.

So the DLP cant do me the same thing, cause I not expecting anything from them. My God will supply my needs has he has done in the past.

  29. Wishing in Vain Avatar

I can assure you despite your stupid mouthings the Minister of Tourism is one of us my friend.

Now off you go to classes to be taught your ABC.

  30. Maureen is it OK if he makes me the Minister of Health? Then phone him and tell him you got a good boy for the job, before he give it to a foreigner. LOL

  31. What is this thread about again? How you guys freting about something that ain’t even happen? Serious imaginations we have over here don’t we?

  32. May I also take this time to extend my best wishes to he and all the others that have been recently appointed.
    …………………………………………………………………….
WIV. Could you please enlighten the public who is the face behind WIV. For a person who is not a member of the DLP, yet, you have advance knowledge of every decision and plans of the party. Now, you gone a step further by insinuating that you are privy to the appointed cabinet ministers. Can I firmly state, that you are the DLP consultant-at-large Hartley Henry.

Although you have not name any minister, this is a breach of protocol. Our Prime Minister did not even made mentioned if he made his selection. You need to separate your blogging from real protocol.

  33. fretting

  34. Wishing in Vain,

“the Minister of Tourism is one of us my friend.”

    Hmm!

You know, more than one person here warned me to be careful with you because you are a deceitful lying snake. What is the name of this Minister of Tourism then? What are you trying to HIDE? Because the name people are telling me is Loverage and there is no way in hell that could be a Bajan name. I remember that one time he went and bring some white woman here name Jennifer Lazlo. These are jobs that should be for Bajans! I did not see any Loverage or whatever the hell his name is when I went to any of the meetings.

  35. Maureen you have a computer and can pay your internet fee but it seems to me that you are betzpaenic!

  36. Anonymice,

“How you guys freting about something that ain’t even happen?”

I have to make sure that it NEVER happens.

You know full well how some people will purposely let information leak out in order to gauge public opinion before making a final decision.

This is what I suspect is happening, because very funny that he was supposed to address the nation tonight and all of a sudden it is cancelled. If he is considering whether to put a foreign white man in that post, then he has 22 hours to find a REAL BAJAN instead.

Some of you Bajans are too PASSIVE and ready to swallow any **** from these politicians. He only just start so he better not play the fool so early.

I DID NOT CAST MY VOTE FOR ANY FOREIGN WHITE MAN.

  37. Wishing in Vain Avatar

frankology are you and maureen one and the same?

I am forced to ask this as it appears to me the same type of utter rubbish comes both of you.

Sit back my friend and enjoy the next five years of progressive thinking and progressive actions free of personal attacks and corruption.

  38. betzpaenic – please convert to bajan, otherwise, refrain from using virgin words with no meanings.

  39. Wishing in Vain,

“Sit back my friend and enjoy the next five years of progressive thinking and progressive actions free of personal attacks and corruption.”

Now I know for sure that you are a REAL ASSHOLE!

  40. Despite you best efforts to create strife and confusion, should Mr Thompson wish to select Mr Loveridge as his Minister of Tourism, what could you do about it ?

Lets remember that you pupit Owing has been removed from office and is now assigned to his fight for leadership of the Opposition with mottley, not sure that he will find much support within the ranks of what is left over as he has treated this lot with gross distain.

  41. Frankology is Frankology. A simple black man with the same strategic intellect like you. I have no “fe” before my “male”. I am 110% male and Bajan.

I am also looking forward to see a progressive country, free of corruption.

  42. It will be a long hard five years for you my friend.

Sit back my friend and enjoy the ride the next five years of progressive thinking and progressive actions free of personal attacks and corruption

  43. Frankology a paenia is a lack of something
e.g thrombocyto- paenia lack of thrombocytes, the cels involved in clotting

Betz cells are found in the brain

hence we have a serious malady here.

You hit the nail on the head when you used the word virgin—- suggesting that the cells have never been used. I believe they never developed. LOL

  44. Maureen, the elections over, Please refrain from the vile language. Communicate professionally, it sounds bad when posters post bajan cuss words; and it is worst when that person is a woman.

  45. Any of you fellas seen SUCH STUPID COMMENTS recently? He has been absent since the elections were announced. Is he yet alive? Or is he hiding under an alter ego?

  46. frankology // January 18, 2008 at 10:04 pm

    ============================

ha ha ha hha I knew it. Mia Mottley has always been Frank. 😀

David can we have an article dealing with the make up of the opposition and the relationships between it members and Former Prime Minister Owen Arthur?

  47. Peoples,

Companies in corporate Barbados often takes MONTHS to fill vacancies at the management level. These organisations do not normally consider politics, usually not race and most nowadays are not limited in nationality.

If some of this is beyond our levels of competence it would be useful to listen and learn.

Only a fool would expect that a NEW PM making critical appointments that relate to national management in critical areas should rush so as to relieve our impatience.

I do not even see the need to complete this task within the first few weeks.
We had no ministers over the past 5 weeks… anybody noticed?

Mr PM, please take your cool time. Tomorrow, reassure Bajans that you have all in hand and will complete the appointments in your OWN GOOD TIME.

…and why would there not be some stress in making these appointments? What would you expect? have you ever even tried picking a cricket team? have you looked at the number of qualified persons in there? Do you know how much money an engineer like Sealy or Boyce earns in private industry? many big decisions are being made as we speak – there must be stress and some strain…

…any biting or throwing of chairs reported?!? No? well what is the issue?

  48. Frankology
you learn a new word tonight man.LOL

  49. frankology,

YOU SAID: “I am 110% male and Bajan.”

What are you trying to say? That you like boys too?

  50. frankology,

    Coming at you again…

“it sounds bad when posters post bajan cuss words”

Are you ashamed of being Bajan?

Maybe you have been living abroad too damn long.

I’m a member of BFPE and we LOVE Bajan cusswords…. they “distinguish” us.
