nlynch.jpg One of the most lopsided sidebar polls we have had so far is the one quoted above. One of the most discussed Ministers in the government has been Noel Lynch. He is one of the longest serving Ministers in the Arthur cabinet and we believe a reasonable assumption can be made that he has the confidence of Prime Minister Owen Arthur. However, when we read the blogs and listen to the call-in programs, Minister Lynch continues to attract controversial feedback from those people who are bold enough to share their views in public. We will put our hand up and say that our polls are unscientific and the only purpose is to give vent to those BU family members who are incline to offer an opinion.

If possible, we want to encourage dispassionate discussion about our long serving Minister of Tourism. Let us discuss his record; let us discuss his achievements and his failings. We know Arthur to be a shrewd Prime Minister and doubt that he would keep Lynch in position if he thought he was failing so miserably in the way Wishing in VainBU Commenter would want to suggest.

Some of you will ask why have we singled-out Minister Lynch and the answer is straight forward. He presides over the most important ministry in the cabinet of Barbados.

  1. More stupid BU crap.

If you think your idiotic “poll” will be taken seriously by anybody except nutcases like yourself and Wishing in Vain, then you need to spend more time getting treatment at de Mental.

  2. David,

In your “About Us” section elsewhere on this blog, you refer to yourself and your wife as “approaching retirement soon”.

Your idiotic commentaries such as this one suggest to me that you are closer to being senile than you are to being retired.

Or maybe you don’t realise how STUPID you appear whenever you behave like Adrian Loveridge’s lapdog.

  3. Seems that Minister Lynch has lots of friends with the same type of manners and attitude that he has. Could be that they just did not get around to voting in your poll David.

  4. My only comment is that he must have twenty friends as I never expected him to get a vote, so congrats to his failure.

  5. What is wrong with the question?

It is a reasonable question for debate and for the sharing of views.

Certainly this forum allows us to share views that will not ever be discussed in our local news media, as in the case of other developed countries.

Why cant we have a civil discussion without the abuse? I am sure that many of us spitting hate and crude abuse on this forum had free education after 1961. We ought to be able to articulate our views and respect others, and thier views, regardless to how diverse they are from ours.

I caanot comment on the question asked since I am fairly ignorant of this subject. But it would be nice to hear the different sides and opinions thereon.

The moderator has asked a good question that is worthy of a proper and informed debate.

  6. I am totally amazed that he managed a single vote, is that his complete plantation workers that voted for him or is that reward from his after hours job?

The next poll may even be worst for the one of uncertain gender Walcott as it stands right now it is 19 votes to 1 vote that he is doing a crappy job in the Ministry of Health, so far two Ministries and both have failed the peoples voting test, I would suggest we poll each ministry and at least see if on can make a decent showing, I would suggest trying one on Housing and Lands that would prove most amusing.

  7. If I were to really get started on Lynch tonight I would still be writing when the sun were to be rising tomorrow.

However briefly let me state that he is the first and only minister to have been responsible for the shutting down of as many hotels as have closed under his stewardship.

We have seen and now we are hearing from those with BRAINS within the industry that his approval of hotels being converted to condos is now creating tremendous stresses to those tour operators and providers of travellers to this market, because the airlines are providing the airlift but the lack of rooms are creating a major headache and if this continues much longer we will in turn see the airlines reducing the frequency of their services and secondly we will see increases in our airfares once again.

I know that he has a fixation with thru put tourist figures but his energy (if one can call it that) would be much better spent generating the long stay travellers and not to continue to fall for the nonsense of the cruise ship arrival numbers, if he has bought his Plantation home out of kickbacks from the donation of the $ 20 million to Carnival Cruise lines and he feels it necessary to keep referring to passageners passing thru the airport enroute to join a ship and vicea versa all power to him but the reality is that this type of tourist does absolutely nothing for the island in terms of real revenue none of the hotels, restaurants, bars or shops see them or get a cent from their passing thru the island.

On the other hand long stay visitors eat , drink and live among us and they spent their money in shops, bars, restaurants and nighclubs.

Then we will discuss his pie in the sky sequence of lies revolving around CWC and the 700 yachts, 34 cruise ships, 90,000 tourist on the island and 35,000 being accomodated on the cruise ships.

The man is a dismal arrogant failure, does it get any better than that?

  8. Sorry to say but Lynch is the poster boy for arrogance, stubbornness and “possibly getting rich off a ministerial position.” I don’t know much about the tourism sector but as a former mathematician I know manipulation of statistics and numbers when i see them and to me that’s what’s been happening for years. Rosy reports based on “chosen” data.

And btw, far from apparently doing a bad job as minister of tourism he has done an even worse job as Member of Parliament for St. Michael South. If you needed a reason why change is needed, look no further.

What beats me is Arthur’s refusal to “rein” in people like Lynch and underperformers like Walcott when others were “disciplined” for much less in the past.

  9. firstly i dont think the ministry of tourism is the most important ministry,, secondly you now sounding like Adrian Loveridge and all he is , is a liar and a trouble maker and not even native to this island .

Still i dont have a prob with throwing out any subject for discussion but be careful not to be influenced by A.Loveridge cause this sounds like his doing

  10. only me,

Your attempt to defend stupidity is not a worthy project.

This is not about Mr Adrian Loveridge is is about having square pegs in round holes (pardon the pun Lynch) but why in heavens name has Owing not had the power to move these underperforming and in many cases nonperforming ministers out and make way for new ones not sure with what he has at his disposal that the replacements would be any better but at least he would have appeared to have been trying.

Or is it that he is happy for them to carry out their fraud against the taxpayers, thru their well established channels of corruption in all their various ministeries it certainly seems to be the message that we are been given.

  11. Loveridge Lapdog Avatar

    BU,

So you finally decided to come out in the open and declare yourself as Adrian Loveridge’s lapdog.

I am a proud black Barbadian and I would NEVER be found being a modern day slave for any white foreigner like Adrian Loveridge.

You have no sense of self-worth at all and you are a disgrace to black people everywhere.

  12. No LYNCH you are the lapdog you are a servant of the ones that are paying you the likes of the CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES the kickbacks from the Airport redevelopment project you are a lapdog and servant to those.

  13. Wishing in Vain,

You must be wishing in vain to be white, you useless piece of black trash.

Go back to licking the heels of your WHITE ENGLISH SLAVEMASTER Adrian Loveridge.

Thank God that Barbados is filled with people who look up to our own black Bajan heroes Errol Barrow and Grantley Adams.

    You are a worthless joke!

fiscal irresponsibility and fraud starts at the top and works its way down.

Minister of Tourism, Noel Lynch stated that LIAT ‘had shed over 700 jobs (staff)’.

A few months ago, Jean Holder, Chairman told the media that LIAT employed 752 persons
Even allowing for the recruitment of some Caribbean Staff people, how could LIAT possibly ‘have shed over 700 jobs (staff) ‘ ?

  16. For 17 planes?

    What were they doing?

    Featherbedded by Bajan taxes.

There is a chance they may even turn a small profit this year as the seats are being sold at the correct market price.

So much for the fares for inter-island flights dropping soon.

Another great success story from the Lynch mob.

No wonder he couldn’t stop sniggering whilst pleading for another subsidy.

point granted but it seems to me that the greatest economic activity in Barbados over the past number of years is printing money, that is to say, increasing the debt covered by increased VAT payments.

This is rapidly coming to an end. Any incompetent fool who just inherited money through increased VAT can quickly p__s through this money without
any one closing the cash drawer.

Now the people of Barbados are faced with having to get back to the basics—tourism , offshore banking and the like.

  19. Quite amazingly they are those that are getting their knickers in a twist when I described Jerome Walcott as one of Uncertain Gender however if he was born as a man and operates in a manner that is most unlike a man it surely must be described to be of uncertain gender.
It begs the question did I ruffle the feathers of someone at BFP with my comment,if so I am sorry but make no excuses for my comment as it is honest and true in content.

  20. Wishing in Vain,

You are a hypocrite and a liar. I know you personally and I’m sure you don’t want me to remind you of that day when your ex-wife came home unexpectedly from her overseas trip and caught you with another man in the house.

  21. WOW Lewis what happened next?

This sounds like fun, did she shoot you or did she wish you well?

Cortez, I challenged WIV on a regular basis, but I prefer to deal with him in a professional manner, but never use nasty innuendos. We must uphold the quality of blogging and detest from below the belt writing. I can see the lies right through your statement.

  24. Here is an interesting comment from the Star newspaper in St.Lucia.

CTO head tells governments: Don’t try to control tourism!

    By Linda Straker

A top regional tourism planner has advised Caribbean governments not to seek to get too involved in the day-to-day running of their vital foreign exchange earning tourism sectors. The warning came from Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) Secretary General, Vincent Vanderpool Wallace, who told journalists attending the 16th Caribbean Media Exchange on Sustainable Tourism which concluded here on Sunday, that the bureaucratic systems of government may not be suited to the industry.

“Governments are designed to create and follow rules and because tourism involves creativity; thinking outside of the box, the bureaucracy in government can slow down progress. “Some governments in the region are trying to change things but because small societies move in the area of the conformist, there are always obstacles, but they should know that the word ‘no’ is the difference between private and public sector progress, the private say ‘yes’ to every ‘no’ from the public sector,”

The CTO secretary general also opined that innovation is critically important if the region is to continue having the tourism sector as its number one income earner. “Parts of the world have caught up with us and we have to reset our levels of innovation in order to climb that steep hill of success if we want to remain at the top,” he said. He said the theme “Caribbean Tourism: Another Level of Innovation”, which was explored at the four-day meeting, is timely as it is through the capturing of creativity of all stakeholders that the region will be able to strengthen the resilience of tourism.

“We need to honour our heritage but we need innovation to move us beyond complacency to define success, not by relying on traditional indicators but by measuring our performance against our potential,” he said. He said that too often in the region, mediocrity is settled for without fully understanding that the good is the enemy of the best. “Real success is when we rise to our true potential,” he told journalists at the closing session.

    Adrian Loveridge,

That’s another of your slip-ups when you pretend to be a Bajan. As we at BFPE always tell you, Bajans speak and write Caribbean English which you cannot imitate properly because you are a British foreigner. Bajans use the word “jail”, not the popular British form “goal”.

    Stupid FRAUD.

    BFPE.

  26. I must plead with you to keep your attacks going, it is doing wonderful things for the Opposition party.

With each contribution that you make you are helping the cause of the Opposition.

    Thanks for your support.

  27. Lynch has been a much better Minister than the Minister of health. I have lost a lot of confidence in the PM over his handling of health matters. Any CEO on the ball would have fired the Health Minister by now. The PM seems to have gotten to a point where his actions are driven primarily by politics. He is fiddling while the social services burn.

How this QEH thing is handled will influence my vote a lot. User fees at the QEH will primarily hurt the poor and lower middle class. The govt is the main financier and I will not accept that its a board decision. Such a fundamental change in health care delivery requires a political consensus, or the courtesy of a public announcement.

On balance I have tended to favour the current administration, but this issue is a make or break one for me. The Minister of Health should have held a press conference on Monday. He did not, I find this indifference intolerable and insulting . The Pm has not commented on this. I can only conclude that there was a nod and a wink with these user fees and if BAMP had not come out so strongly it would have remained under the radar.

Thank god for BAMP to hell with the administration and their political games. health care is not a matter for games. I have zero confidence in the Minister of health and my confidence in the govt has seriously dipped.

    I need an explanation:

What is the precise nature of these fees?

    Who knew what and when?

Why was there not a public announcement of any policy changes?

Are the persons who paid these fees going to be compensated?

Has the govt relinquished control of the qeh to the board?

How could the board be unaware of such changes?

Owen and his crew can attempt to deal with this after the elections. I will deal with it at the voting booth.

  28. BFPE:

Noting your interest in correct spelling, you have repeated Levi’s mistake.

    Old english spelling was “gaol”

We can all be mistaken about all manner of things can’t we?

  29. Why cant people leave the personal life of the minister of health out of these forums ,,,,its none of their friggin business anyway

  30. wishing in vain i would strongly suggest you see a doctor cause clearly you arnt thing straight you have a warped mind

  31. It is with some amusement that I read on page 24 A of today’s Nation Newspaper that the PM is stating the Beach Access is a must, how funny can he be.

Then to drive along the coast road in ST.JAMES as recently as yesterday and to see the BARRIER IS IN PLACE AND WORKING AT THE ENTRANCE TO COLONY CLUB AND HERON BAY HOUSE.

You know Mr. PM these grand statements that you make and that are as empty as ever hold no water, when you grandstand about the locals must have accesses to the beach but then turn around and approve TCP permissions that prevent locals from that access, what are you really saying and really doing?

These the vacant mouthing’s of Arthur, but still he allows his rich friends to carry out the injustice of blocking our rights of access to some of the best beaches in this island by the erection of multi million dollar homes and condos is it really a show of caring by he and his clan of corrupt crooks?

If he or the Minister had the will power and guts to confront those that have erected this barrier it would have long time ago disappeared but we will never see that, because he is too dependant on the funds from this group of wealthy foreigners, to worry about the rights of us the citizens of this island.

That is it in a nutshell, simple and plain!!!!

TIME FOR A CHANGE AND NEW DIRECTION IN THIS ISLAND.

  32. If I were you I would avoid the subject of a warped mind like the plague because were we to start on that subject the first thing that comes to mind is the moraless beast mottley, from there we must look at he lifestyles of Walcott, Lynch, Arthur, Marshall, Liz Thompson, Clarke and others from within the heart and soul of your gang and once you have done your investigation come back and tell me who do you think is warped???

Never before have we had a cabinet so complete with misfits as this one has been, when a DPM can behave as a moraless beast in the manner she does and the only reason she has not been taken before the courts is because of her connections to avoid this insult to herself, but she has paid for damages done on more than one occassion, is this really uplifting to her position or her status in society?

TIME FOR A CHANGE AND NEW DIRECTION IN THIS ISLAND.

In addition to the abovementoined cases there is also the issue of the blocking of beach access at the COACH HOUSE BEACH as well, here again we have a foreign owner retricting the publics access to our beaches.

These issues need more than flowery lip service they need urgent and real action.

TIME FOR A CHANGE AND NEW DIRECTION IN THIS ISLAND.

  34. Only Me, the minister’s personal life becomes fodder for public discussion if the cabinet he is in runs on a platform of improving morality, spirituality and decent social life in the island.

Public officers should live up to a certain code, or at least declare their hand so they’re not seen as hypocritical. After all, it is claimed that we are a “christian” society.

  35. Observing sry but i dont see it that way his personal life as far as im concerened is his businees and i dont want to know neither do i care .. what i care about is his apparent lack of interest in the hospital

  36. wishing in vain see if you were thinking clearly u would see the rubish and nonsense u post daily

  37. A show of desperation ………when that drunken DESPOT has the gall to have his
    ” sign – in name “……OWEN ARTHUR….. appear on the BLOGS !

Well the use of the CUSS WORDS are his STOCK – IN – TRADE !

Ask Keith Mitchell…..if you have any doubts !

  38. How come Barnie dint get his friends to vote for him?

  39. The ruling Labour Party in Bermuda returned to power in spite of numerous allegations of corruption.

Will the same thing happen here?

  40. Jerome, I did not find that funny. Suppose someone had used David Thompson’s name?

  41. When will the voters of Barbados finally be afforded the courtesy of being able to go to Courts of Barbados and to see in plain view the records of the financial settlement that the C J over saw in the case of Beverley Arthur versus Owing Arthur.

The details of ALL other Divorces are of PUBLIC RECORD why should the settlement between Owing Arthur and Beverley Arthur be treated any differently than the settlements of us ordinary Barbadians.

Here once again it leads one to ask the question why was David Simmons appointed the CJ with such cloes ties to his last position as a politician in the ruling party?

It also begs the question why is it such an infortant issue to have these files concealed and hidden from public viewing, and why would the CJ allow his name to be tarnished by this level of corrupt behaviour ?

Lets hear from DAVID SIMMONS and OWING ARTHUR

Fred your comment has been edited. If you don’t know the settlement between the Arthur’s why are you speculating? Do you think Prime Minister Arthur is so stupid that he would settle for some huge figure which has no relationship with his earnings? We have always given you a certain freedom to shout your message. Please don’t abuse it!

    David

  42. BU, please delete these sick people from the site. Regardless who these culprits are. These vile behaviour is not doing any justice for Barbadians on the world wide net.

  43. David,

Please implement the “registration to post” rule.
We are all sick of these uncouth children now…

BT we will start a poll to try to satisfy the majority. Our concern is that moderating comments will interrupt the flow of conversation.

    David

  44. Well only me, regardless of which aspect yo ulook at, he comes up wanting terribly. And sad to say he was held to a higher benchmark because of his career with medicine. What makes it worse is that he’s receievd absolute and complete support from the PM, despite his clear failings. He’ll just be another one that has to go.

  45. yes bush tea we r sick or reading your rubbish daily

  46. Well ‘only me’ just don’t read it… But if you find me abusive that is another matter.

    I only abuse ignorance…

  47. Not being a computer “techie”, I cannot see any registration system working.

As I understand it, each time we log on with ADSL we are allocated a new IP address.
I suppose this means David cannot identify an individual registered commenter by his IP.

So anyone falsely using the registered name will be allowed through with no moderation.

If David can sort by registered email addresses, then all well and good, it just means that foreign, proxy and unregistered comments will be under permanent moderation.

    How can it work, David?

  48. David I respectfully want to suggest to you that the whole reason that the CJ has withheld these files and have them under lock and key is simply and purely to protect the well being of PM Arthur.

I want to suggest that this is a dishonest act being carried out by the CJ for purely political purposes and the reason for the hiding of these documents is for no lesser a reason than the fact that if and when they are finally revealed to the public, the records will show that a settlement exist that is outside the realms of possibility on a Prime Ministers salary.

Why should it be that if you or I were to go through a divorce with our wives our details would be recorded as public item for viewing of all and sundry, but the PM goes thru a divorce and his is kept stored in the safe keeping of the CJ for reasons better known to he and Arthur?

We deserve better than this type of leadership and the CJ ought to come clean and to stop hiding and shielding Arthur from the publics eye.

  49. I see absolutely nothing wrong with Freds comments. Whats up with the moderation? No body force Owen Arthur and Beverly to engaged in the public relations deception of being in a loving marriage in 1994? It is a matter of public record that their marriage was on the rocks long before he became PM and that an arrangement was struck between him, and her with aid of others in BLP to project this false image. I have a video tape of Owen Arthur and Rodney Wilkinson on a visit to Boston where Owen candidly told the audiance of his trouble marriage to Beverly, as he sought to demonstrate that he understood the difficulty of migrating and leaving a spouse at home.

  50. The major issue for me is the willingnes of the highest law in this land to be lying on behalf of Owen and to be part of the scam to hide documents of public records from the citizens of this island, this is dishonest and it should not be allowed to take place.

We need free access to view the documents pertaining to the settlement, if there is nothing to hide why then are they being hidden as they are??
