AN INSTRUMENT OF TORTURE, TORMENT & TYRANNY USED TO PUT THE FEAR OF MAN INTO THE SOULS OF OTHER MEN!!! NEVER AGAIN WILL THE BACKS OF ANY BLACK MAN LOOK LIKE A CART ROAD UP IN ST ANDREW
The #Cat_O_Nine_Tail was a type of “MULTI-TAILED WHIP” called “FLAIL”, FLAGRUM or FLAGELLUM”, originally & historically used as an instrument of “JUDICIAL” punishment by the Romans – adopted in Britain, & other “CONQUERED ROMAN SATELLITE STATES & countries!!!
It then became an “ACCESSORY”, used for “SEVERE BEATINGS”, “VISIBLE PHYSICAL PUNISHMENT”, particularly used during the “TRANS ATLANTIC SLAVE TRADE” by “ALBINO-CENTRIC PALESKIN SLAVERS & SLAVE MASTERS” who would “BEAT THE MESS” out of disobedient slaves – making them an example to the others!!!
It then became a “TOOL” used by the Royal Navy & British Army, as well as in their “BRITISH PENAL COLONIES” & by certain “EUROPEAN” armies!!!
The cat o’ nine tails typically consisted of [9] knotted thongs of cotton cord, about 18 ins (45 cm) long each. The thongs are made by unravelling rope into three small ropes, each unravelled again, and then knotting them together. The whip’s handle was usually made of wood or metal & in the “TIME OF YESHUA MESSIAH”, the “ROMANS” used the “CAT” on the backs of “CONVICTED CRIMINAL” who were sentenced to death for murder & other state-significant crimes!!!
The “CAT-O’” was also made of “COW HIDE” that had been cured into a “LEATHER-LIKE” garment which was then cut into strips, soaked in oil to give it flexibility, then shards of “METAL” were fastened to the ends of each strip. Some accounts suggest that the flagellum consisted of a handle (about 18″ long) with 9 leather straps about 6 or 7 feet long, & at the end of each strap were small lead balls mixed with pieces of animal bone and/or metal!!
WHEN BEATEN BY THIS INSTRUMENT OF UNBELIEVABLE TORTURE – IT TORE THE SKINS TO SHREDS – FILLETING THE BACK FROM SHOULDERS TO WAISTLINE – OFTEN TIMES TEARING THE BUTTOCKS LEAVING THE VICTIM IN EXCRUCIATING PAIN
This kind of “VIOLENCE” back then found its “HUBRIS” in the “MADNESS” we see evident today on our “STREETS”, in “SCHOOLS” & sadly, in “HOMES” (maybe now to a lesser degree)!!!
GROWING UP IT WAS THE TAMARIND ROD THAT WAS PLAITED FOR YOUR ARSE*
Church historian “EUSEBIUS” of Caesarea recounts in vivid, horrible detail a scene of “ABJECT FLAGELLATION” where he opined: “For they say that the bystanders were struck with amazement when they saw them lacerated with scourges even to the innermost veins and arteries, so that the hidden inward parts of the body, both their bowels and their members, were exposed to view…” (Ecclesiastical History, Book 4, chapter 15)
WHEN YESHUA – OUR PRECIOUS MESSIAH WAS SAVAGED WITH 40 LASHES FROM THE ROMAN WHIP – THIS WAS HIS ANATOMICAL CONDITION
The Roman soldiers were trained to begin with the “UPPER TORSO”. They would then beat you down to the backside; down the chest over the shoulders; up the back of the legs above the knees and up the arms!!! Sometimes more than one kind of whip was used on the legs and arms but the flagrum was used to primarily beat the body. The weighted ends of this tyrannical weapon would “TENDERIZE” muscle and would strike with a concussive force that could bruise internal organs like the liver, kidneys, spleen, lungs etc!!!
THIS WAS UNDESCRIPTIVE VIOLENCE THAT CANNOT BE UNDERSCORED
When the “CAT” landed against the chest, especially with the arms raised, the beating would cause a “CONTUSION” of the heart, sometimes predisposing the heart to “RUPTURE” if the beating was followed by “CRUCIFIXION” (as in the case of “OUR LORD & MESSIAH”)!!!
ONLY A BLACK MAN COULD SURVIVE SUCH TORTURE – AS WAS PROVEN DURING THE TRANS-ATLANTIC SLAVE TRADE (MANY TIMES OVER)!!! NO WONDER THEY SAID THAT BLACK SKIN IS THICK LIKE ARMOUR – HENCE THE FALLACY THAT WE CAN BEAR PAIN UNLIKE “OTHERS”
Blood loss during a “BEATING” was IMMEASURABLY” severe. Sometimes the victim lost consciousness from “EXTREME BLOOD LOSS”, & although the soldiers aimed their cuts, archaeologists have found the remains of scourge victims who had ends hit them both in the face & on top of the skull!!!
“JOSEPHUS”, a 1st-century historian, noted that certain “REBELLIOUS BLACK JEWS” were torn to pieces by the scourge (even) before being crucified!!!
YESHUA’S beating was so severe that HE* was unable to carry “HIS CROSS”. By the time HE* was on HIS* way to Golgotha, HE would have been suffering from both “MAJOR” blood loss & shock. HIS breathing would have been asphyxiatedly laboured. HIS blood pressure & blood oxygen levels would have dropped dramatically & HIS body was most likely violently shaking & unnervingly trembling. HIS skin dangled like ribbons of human goujons from HIS body. No wonder the women yelped, cried & bawled for HIM*!!!
HE was also dehydrated, which is a by-product of severe blood loss. HIS tongue was unquestionably beginning to swell profusely as HIS body suffered from extreme trauma & exhaustion – yet, HE endured this torture (FOR ALL OF US). HIS blood was truly “POURED OUT” on the ground for us as HE was scourged. “HE HIMSELF brought our sins into “HIS BODY” up on the cross so that we might “DIE TO SIN” and “LIVE FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS”; for by “HIS WOUNDS” we are healed” (1 Peter 2:24).
A cat o’ nine tails is preserved at the USS Constitution Museum, measuring 38 1/4 inches long overall, with [9] individual “tails” approximately [18] inches each. It is composed of [9] lengths of tarred, braided hemp with ends lashed, and features a twisted, knotted, braided, and tarred handle with a wrist loop at the top…
The cat o’ nine tails has been largely abolished in modern times, with its use finally discontinued in the British Royal Navy in 1848. However, its historical significance remains a daunting episode in human history & some would love to see it “RE-INTRODUCED” as a form of “JUDICIAL PUNISHMENT” for crimes of “MURDER”, “PAEDOPHILIA” & other abhorrent evils that now plague our societies & our world. Sadly folks, “NO AMOUNT OF INFLICTED TORTURE WILL CHANGE THE INHERENT SINFUL NATURE OF MEN UNTIL THEY CONFESS JESUS CHRIST AS LORD & LIVE FOR HIM…”
Until then, we swing from bad 2 worse in a never-ending cycle of “MADNESS” that knows no ultimate bounds!!!

There seems to be obvious enjoyment with which the writer describes all the details of such torture. I know of someone who was beaten with “the cat” at Glendairy and it did not change his behaviour, he resumed ‘normal activity after he came out of prison.. Why dwell on this past. What took place in slavery is NOT confined to Blacks coming over from Africa alone. Indigenous Indians of North America were subjected to these and worse atrocities;, and also sold into Slavery, long before the Blacks were brought over from Africa; after they were collected in coffles, and sold as slaves by other Blacks to European traders.

I started watching The Colour Purple (musical) set post slavery which most people think is about racism and poverty in America, but the plot is more about misogyny and domestic violence in the days of when chauvinistic men used to slap and beat their woman and force them to do the chores versus the spiritual strength and strong will of black woman to stand up for themselves and fight back. The forced effects of slavery and poverty left a pattern of dysfunction and abuse among it’s victims.

What is the Barbados school curricula for teaching Child of Slave about slavery and reparations. Is it taught in early schooling or is it extra curricular?
