The following observation was sent to the inbox of Barbados Underground.

Is the Golden Square Freedom Park a public recreation area or is it only to host cultural events that the government wants to showcase to the public.

The benches are placed in the sun daily to discourage persons from sitting on them.

The decision to demolish the old NIS Building in order to construct an open space in the city of Bridgetown was a controversial one. Many expressed concern about the high cost associated with the project. Many believed it was not well timed given the perilous financial state of the economy, having to relocate the fire station from the centre of the city, the old building could have been fixed etc.

It is too late for government to rescind the decision, however, the majority of Barbados agree the park – despite the criticism – is a lovely space and has enhanced the area.

It is therefore unacceptable if Barbadians are being discouraged by those responsible from utilising the park for the purpose it was conceptualised.

Stop it!
