In all of post Independence politics in Barbados we have not witnessed what has been unravelling within the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) for the last six years.

It is well documented on Barbados Underground (see – DEMS now, DEMS again? what transpired at the 2024 DLP Annual Conference this weekend. For the moment Ralph Thorne has emerged as the victor at the end of the conference. One of his first acts was to announce Senator Tricia Watson will be replaced by the next sitting of the Upper House. The decision to dismiss Watson must be seen as a clear sign Thorne does not have confidence OR feels threatened by her. In the coming days and weeks more will be revealed one suspects. He also announced a Shadow Cabinet.

The job of healing must be a priority for Thorne, there continue to be deep divisions within the DLP, the cracks widened quickly with the crossing of Thorne. Those offering themselves for leadership of the DLP after the death of David Thompson lacked the personality and charisma to force ‘renegades’ to fall in line.

If we are to judge by his machiavellian approach when he made the decision to appoint two senators, one being a visible member of the DLP, declared his intention. It was his intention to come in hot. From all reports he did not collaborate or extend courtesy of discussion to the DLP Executive headed by Dr. Ronnie Yearwood and General Secretary Steve Blackett about his senate appointments. Walter Maloney – a Yearwood supporter and member of the Executive Council – recently confirmed Thorne’s decision was not well received by the Executive and sowed the seeds for the discord which followed.

In order for the meeting to proceed on the final day the caretaker leadership took the decision to generate a list of members who were allowed to entry to proceedings. How will Thorne and his team work to integrate disaffected DLP members back into the team? Could it be a hint of resolution to the long longrunning imbroglio will invigorate DLP’s base?

The behaviour of some DLP members displayed on the weekend was difficult to process for many. It reminded of the label of wild boys given to the DLP by late prime minister Owen Arthur. The substantive concern was the knowledge the DLP- the other member of the duopoly- represents the government in waiting. Bear in mind another label was ascribed to the stewardship of the DLP, the lost decade. The DLP impasse for the last six years has done nothing to lift the credibility index in the eyes of the public. With two short years or less to prepare for the next general election, it is difficult to anticipate the DLP picking up seats assuming the BLP does not suffer any unforeseen catastrophe.

One suspects there will be a period the Thorne team sets about targeting and purgeing dissidents to avoid continuing disruption to DLP business. A word of advice, Thorne should seek to control his supporters from throwing oil on the flames, it does not make sense for members of his team to be posting inflammatory comments on social media or calling the talk shows. The time has come and gone to tone down the rhetoric and vitriol.

The blogmaster extends best wishes to the DLP.

Let the healing begin.

Let true opposition politics be the order of the day.

  1. Foolishness!

    Might it not more likely that because Tricia Watson has seemingly sided with Yearwood, by deed, and in so doing was unable to help the man who appointed her, that the obvious thing any leader would have had to do was replace such a person.

    This writer has seen almost every public speech, every news conference, every political speech, given by RAT and Tricia Watson has never appeared to help the man who appointed her to make any argument.

    This writer has known, had known, Tricia Watson, her father, family for a long time. However, in the above circumstances, where an appointee is incapable to perform its the duty of leadership to relieve Watson so that the work of the party, as RAT sees it, can proceed. Indeed, the omissions of Tricia Watson, aimed to frustrate the work of the party, would have been better dealt with more seriously.

    She should be thankful that RAT was less stringent. That those who always seek to lecture us about governance could fail to see this as an example of such but continues to insist on a lack of governance by RAT

    “Thorne should seek to control his supporters from throwing oil on the flames, it does not make sense for members of his team to be posting inflammatory comments on social media or calling the talk shows.”

    The record will show that despite the internal vitriol and slander heaped upon them, they never did and I will assume never will. The same definitely cannot be said for the other side.

  4. Watson out

    OUTSPOKEN ATTORNEY Tricia Watson will no longer serve as an Opposition Senator when the Senate resumes sitting next month.

    The announcement by Opposition Leader and Democratic Labour Party (DLP) political leader Ralph Thorne yesterday evening – that “Senator Ryan Walters would be joined by a new senator when the Senate reconvenes in September” – was met with fervent applause and vocal support from party members during the final day of the DLP’s annual conference at the George Street, Belleville, St Michael headquarters.

    The atmosphere in the Errol Walton Barrow Auditorium was charged as Thorne took the stage and outlined the party’s path forward amidst the recent turmoil.

    During the morning, the conference continued to be plagued by controversy as a group including expelled former president Dr Ronnie Yearwood and former general secretary Steve Blackett, was barred from entering party headquarters where a church service was taking place to start the day.

    While Yearwood and company expressed their opposition to the move, acting president Andre Worrell said the party’s leadership was not going to allow the conference to fall into disrepute as happened on Saturday when it had to be suspended.

    In announcing Watson’s departure – without saying whether she quit or was dismissed – Thorne expressed gratitude for her service, but made it clear the party was moving into a new phase, ready to tackle the challenges ahead with a fresh team.

    Efforts to reach Watson for a response were unsuccessful last night.

    To strengthen the party’s public presence and policy focus, the Christ Church South Member of Parliament announced the appointment of a shadow cabinet. Each spokesperson named was met with cheers of approval from the audience (see box).

    The selection, described by Thorne as a team of academics, professionals and intellectuals, was said to be a clear signal that the DLP was ready to offer a serious alternative to the current administration.

    “We go forward as a united party, true to the cause of the forefathers. We are making serious preparations to humbly occupy the offices of Government,” he declared to a standing ovation.

    Thorne accused the ruling Barbados Labour Party (BLP) of meddling in the DLP’s internal affairs, attributing much of the recent struggles to what he described as “dangerously insecure” actions by the BLP.

    “I am aware that as a political party, we are living next door to a ruling party that is so dangerously insecure that although they occupy high and powerful office, they still feel compelled to reach their tentacles into the Democratic Labour Party to undermine and destabilise us,” he said.

    “Serious political causes then become sacrificed in the name of political gamesmanship. Too much blood, sweat and tears are shed for this party by those of little privilege, only to see these sacrifices disrespected in the name of political gamesmanship.”

    He outlined the party’s commitment to addressing the critical issues facing Barbados, from crime to education reform.

    Thorne accused the current administration of failing the citizens of Barbados while indulging in a “soap opera of international personal ambitions”. He spoke of the “horror story” of rampant inflation in Barbados, highlighting the crushing weight of the high cost of living that ordinary citizens face daily.

    “While the citizens bear the weight of a high cost of living, the taxpayers also bear the weight of this Government’s cost of hiding,” he said in reference to what he stressed was the excessive spending on foreign travel.

    He questioned whether Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley had spent a full month in Barbados without the distraction of international travel in her six years in office. He said these trips, often accompanied by large delegations, served more to enhance personal and political images than to advance the nation’s interests.

    “The taxpayers of Barbados are no longer impressed that they’re funding this soap opera of international personal ambitions while nothing in Barbados gets done.”

    He also turned his attention to what he saw as the Government’s failure to address crime effectively, particularly through strong legislation. Reflecting on the recent passage of a Bail Act, Thorne charged that the ruling administration was not prepared to take tough decisions to stamp out the scourge.

    “The Government passed a weak Bail Act in response to my call for tough and resolute legislation to deal with the problem of recidivism by persons already on bail for serious offences,” he stated.

  6. Worrell: We had no choice

    THE LEADERSHIP of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) was not going to allow the annual conference to fall into disrepute again.

    That was the word from acting president Andre Worrell as he and third vice-president Felicia Dujon met with the media to explain why certain members were barred entry yesterday morning, including expelled former president Dr Ronnie Yearwood and former general secretary Steve Blackett, second vice-president Walter Maloney and chairman of the Young Democrats Tyra Trotman.

    “[On Saturday] we had volatile and extremely disruptive behaviour by some of the members of the party. The safety and the conduct of an orderly conference is of paramount importance to the DLP so we had to take strict measures to restrict entry to those persons who led the disorder yesterday.

    “They did not allow us to even get to standing orders; they did not heed our requests to be quiet so that the conference could continue. They basically behaved, as was said, as a renegade group and prevented orderly members who were sitting in the auditorium from engaging in the business of the DLP. So, unfortunately, we were forced to put in place those measures,” he said.

    Worrell said they had taken note of those who were “in our faces, shouting, chanting, being very disorderly, not even listening to the police” and making the other members feel unsafe.

    “You have to remember that we have a wide cross-section of members, members who felt intimidated by their actions. That is not democratic either. We had older members who felt intimidated and younger members who did not want to be associated with that kind of behaviour. We want an orderly conference in which people can come and participate.

    “We have no issues with people having a different view, but you must be orderly. We can take motions, but you have to allow other people to speak, you have to allow the chair to control the meeting.

    And when the chair says that your time is up to speak and allow someone else to speak, go on. But everybody’s shouting at each other – that’s not a meeting, that’s a fracas and that’s not what we want,” he said.

    The acting president said the bad behaviour continued into Saturday night with people sitting in the auditorium “well after 8 or 9 p.m.” and preventing the auditorium from being locked.

    “We had to call the police again and they finally decided to heed the advice of the police to allow us to lock the place for safety. We could not put our members through this again,” he said.

    Dujon said being a member of the party did not give anyone a pass to behave disorderly, adding they were all adults and needed to behave maturely.

    “We’re not censoring anyone, we’re not depriving anyone of their rights as members, but for the security and safety of other members, we have to take such critical actions. There are rules that govern this party, there are rules that govern the society.

    Security measures

    “If we can’t control them and the police can’t control them, what do you expect would happen? So we had to look [at] more effective security measures to ensure that we have a very productive conference because this is what it is about. The annual conference is not only about strengthening the policies or strengthening the structure of the party, it is also for the governance of this country,” she said.

    When asked how the party could survive when its Executive Council was divided, she said it was all about the party’s constitution.

    “What binds us together and what allows us to think critically is how we internalise and interpret the constitution of the party. If the rules and orders of the constitution are breached, then obviously the General Council and the other councils have to step in. So the reality is that even if I and other persons within the party may have differences in the interpretation of the constitution, the reality is that we ought to abide by the rules,” she said.

    Worrell said proceedings went smoothly yesterday with a church service and sermon delivered by Reverend John Wesley Carter. He said the conference would be truncated due to lost time but reports from the parliamentary group and the treasurer would be heard, followed by roundtable discussions and an address by the political leader Ralph Thorne.

    He said another member of the Young Democrats could read their report and while the former president of the Women’s League, Melissa Savoury Gittens, had resigned for “personal reasons”, she had already submitted her report which would be read by another league member. He also said any resolutions not done at the conference would be completed at the next General Council meeting.

  7. Yearwood blames the ‘has-beens’

    Stories by CARLOS ATWELL

    carlosatwell@nationnews.com

    EXPELLED FORMER PRESIDENT of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Dr Ronnie Yearwood charged yesterday that a small group within the DLP, made up of members already rejected by the voting public, was attempting to destroy the party from within.

    He, along with expelled former general secretary Steve Blackett, second vice-president Walter Maloney, chairman of the Young Democrats Tyra Trotman, Executive Council and General Council member Undene Whittaker, assistant secretary of the Young Democrats Stefan Newton and others, were among those barred from entering the DLP’s George Street, St Michael headquarters where a church service was taking place to start the third day of the annual conference.

    “It is heartbreaking to see that this is where the DLP is. We have tried over and over and over again to fix these issues. We’ve had negotiations over the table, but there are segments of this party who are hell-bent on stifling people’s voices, who are hellbent on destroying the DLP and we cannot allow them to get away with it.

    “Furthermore, in terms of their destruction of the DLP, we see it on display today; it is clearly on display. I don’t know how much more it’s going to take for Barbadians and for other members to recognise what is happening to their party. This has never happened in the DLP before. This has never, never happened,” he declared.

    Yearwood said the current rift within the party was seen as the “old guard versus the young Turks” and while this was true in a sense, the “young Turks” included older members of the party who supported and uplifted the youth while the “old guard” was made up of has-beens who were no longer wanted.

    “You have a small group of persons who have no legitimacy outside of these walls of George Street. They have been rejected by the public of Barbados twice. They’ve been rejected by the internal membership of this party and still they do not seem to understand that the Barbadian people, the DLP members, do not want them. I do not know what it’s going to take to give them that message,” he said.

    The embattled former president said it was the same group of people “destroying this party for generations since the death of [former Prime Minister] Errol Barrow” who were still “wreaking havoc”.

    “It must come to an end, I make no apologies about that. This is not about a political career. This is about the fact that these persons have no place in the governance of this country. They should never be allowed to lead, they should never be allowed to put their hands on the Treasury, they should not be allowed to pass a law in this country. They have no place in public life and I make no apologies for saying that.

    “The reason they have no place in public life is you, Barbadians, you have already rejected them. I do not know how much more rejection it will take for them to understand to just leave the DLP alone, leave public life alone, and let us just get on and settle down with the business that we need to do here in this party for this country,” he said.

    On Saturday, the conference fell into an uproar when motions were brought to reinstate both Yearwood and Blackett as well as for Maloney to chair the conference, resulting in a rise in tensions and police being called in.

    Yearwood said no rules had been broken.

    “What happened [on Saturday] was a legitimate exercise of the people and the power of the leadership of the DLP. In simple, straightforward terms, the annual conference is the highest decision-making body of the DLP [and on Saturday] that membership decided that Mr Blackett and myself were the duly elected president and general secretary of this party, so any other decisions taken to demote us were invalid,” he asserted.

    Yearwood said it was a blow to democracy for those who supported the motions to now find themselves denied entry to the conference. He criticised those inside for “parading and carrying on” with a church service while “legitimately elected officials” and members were locked out.

    However, he said they would not try to barge in and instead encouraged peaceful protest.

  8. Young Democrats chair defends actions

    TYRA TROTMAN, chairman of the Democratic Labour Party’s (DLP) youth arm, the Young Democrats, and one of those barred entry to the annual conference yesterday, maintains she did nothing wrong.

    She was one of those who either brought motions or supported motions to have second vice-president Walter Maloney chair the conference on Saturday, and to reinstate both expelled former president Dr Ronnie Yearwood and former general secretary Steve Blackett, all of whom were also barred entry yesterday.

    “Gone are the days when we young people sit down and just follow structures blindly when they make no sense. We are tired of being told what to do and having no respect being given to us. What message is this sending to me, and the youth of this country, that because I stood up for my rights and I did so democratically, that I am not being allowed onto the premises of the ‘Democratic’ Labour Party?

    “I will say this today, all young people out there, if that is the example that is being set, don’t vote for those people. Our country will be gloomy, gloomy [if you do],” she declared.

    “So [on Saturday] I would have been one of those persons that brought a motion from the floor. It was done democratically, it was done peacefully and in reality, being called . . . a renegade is quite offensive. But if it means that being a renegade means fighting for democracy, I would be a renegade 24/7,” she said.

    The chairman said it was not a fight for power but for the people.

    “They need a reliable opposition. They need representatives out there who are not afraid to stand up for truth and justice.

    “They need people out there who are not afraid to fight for democracy and I said from day one I am going to fight for it until I can no longer fight.

    “Let it be very clear, I make no apologies for what I did. I am not afraid. This is a revolution and I am here to fight for all my young people in Barbados. Not only my young people, but also those underprivileged persons, those minority groups – young people, old people, underprivileged people, women – that is who I am fighting for,” she said. Afterwards, acting DLP president Andre Worrell briefly addressed the matter, saying there was a mechanism for the Young Democrats to officially make any public statements, so any utterances from Trotman or assistant secretary Stefan Newton – who has been vocal in support of Yearwood and who was also denied entry yesterday – were done on their own behalf and not on the behalf of the Young Democrats.

    “With regard to the comments by the chairman and the assistant secretary of the Young Democrats, I would like to address the media on that now. The Young Democrats are not authorised to speak on their own. Any official communication must be vetted by the general secretary and go through the party. This is something that was put in place by former president Dr Ronnie Yearwood.

    Worrell said if the chairman had a report to present at the annual conference, there were other Young Democrats who could deliver it. As for the motions brought on Saturday, he said they were not properly placed, as the meeting had not started. (CA)

  9. Political scientists rue latest DLP chaos at annual conference

    by BARRY ALLEYNE barryalleyne@nationnews.com

    THE CHAOTIC EVENTS which led to the suspension of the Democratic Labour Party’s (DLP) annual general conference on Saturday could be the last straw that breaks the camel’s back in the view of the Barbadian electorate.

    So said political scientist Dr Kristina Hinds, who added that another debacle could lead the Dems into the land of political dinosaurs.

    Fellow political scientist and pollster Peter Wickham said he believed that little could have been achieved by what took place.

    The second day of the conference was thrown into chaos with a faction supporting previously ousted president Dr Ronnie Yearwood and general secretary Steve Blackett claiming to have reinstated the pair, and another faction behind interim president Andre Worrell and general secretary Pedro Shepherd arguing the status quo remained until elections were held at the party’s George Street, St Michael headquarters.

    “It is really unfortunate to see this unfolding,” Hinds said about what has unfolded within the DLP over the last few months. “I do think that before what occurred [Saturday], even with all the chaos that was unravelling, I thought they still had the ability to settle themselves and organise themselves to at least gain a couple of seats in the next election,” she told the DAILY NATION on Saturday.

    “If they cannot find a solution to this very quickly, they may find themselves going the way of the dinosaurs.

    “I still believe they have the ability to pull themselves back from this, but if a general election is called early I don’t believe there are many people who would put their trust in that party.”

    The University of the West Indies lecturer said she had seen a few things in the past week which she considered unfortunate, such as a return to the political stage by former Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, who spoke at a DLP St Michael South East meeting last week Sunday.

    “These things have been less than constructive. I know what their opinion on this (Stuart’s return to the stage) is, but I don’t think it is the wisest thing even though he is a useful elder to be working behind the scenes.”

    Meanwhile, Wickham said he was surprised a physical altercation had not occurred due to high tensions within the DLP.

    “There is much lower they can go because we haven’t seen physical altercations yet,” he said on Saturday by telephone link-up from Strasbourg, France. “In my mind that would be the next step. You’re dealing with an organisation that is being led by two different factions, and the public of Barbados is watching and viewing this with great concern.”

    He added: “I don’t know what they were attempting to achieve [on Saturday]. The response of the Thorne faction was somewhat restrained, but in the end, the DLP was the loser. The people of Barbados are watching.”

    The pollster said that in the final analysis, Barbadians already had a Government that was functioning and making a reasonable impact on several issues that were bothersome.

    “At the same time, we’re looking at a DLP that is saying it wants to be considered a government in waiting. Clearly, this behaviour demonstrates that the party is far from ready. They are also far from recognising the fact that the solution to their problem should start with some level of order at a general conference,” he said.

    Wickham also argued that what unfolded was not surprising after Yearwood indicated he was looking towards the general membership to fix the problem.

  10. Ronnie not on ‘D’ entry list
    WHEN EXPELLED FORMER PRESIDENT of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Dr Ronnie Yearwood arrived to take part in the annual conference yesterday, he received a shock – he was not on the entry list.
    He was not alone, however, as former general secretary Steve Blackett, second vice-president Walter Maloney, chairman of the Young Democrats Tyra Trotman, member of both the Executive Council and General Council Undene Whittaker and more were also similarly denied access to the George Street, St Michael headquarters.
    Yearwood said it was a sad day for democracy, adding a politically rejected faction of the party was trying to destroy it.
    However, acting president Andre Worrell said their hands had been forced given the chaos which erupted on Saturday when a motion was brought up to reinstate Yearwood and Blackett.

  11. The argument that Ralph Thorne is a better politician than other DLP members such as Yearwood because he won a seat does not wash.

    BLP Ralph won the seat
    DLP Ralph is a phony

  13. It is wonderful for the electorate to finally see the quality of those who seek to govern us.

    There is no hope for improvement in this country. We are stuck with the Motley Crue, the only band that can play some sort of music, heavy metal though it may be.

    Ralphie will soon fade into oblivion with the rest. He will leave no lasting mark on this country. Neither will Ronnie. Two rasshole assholes!

  14. Who is arguing Ralph Thorne is a better politician? When the DLP approved Thorne’s membership became political leader of the DLP he automatically became political leader. Until the DLP’s constitution is changed the President of the party if it is someone different to the political leader has to make it work. Why can’t you get it through your skull this is the reality?

    To avoid this confusion the DLP Executive should have rejected Ralph Thorne’s application for membership. Let us wait to see how the Ralph Thorne party will address this matter if they see it to be an issue.

  15. @Donna

    That was harsh!

  16. “he automatically became political leader”

    semantics semantics

    are you referring to the ‘parliamentary political leader’

    this should not be confused or interpreted as ‘party political leader’ by sloppy minds

  20. Both parties are the same, with the same interests.

    Their problem is the 30 – 0 result.

    It exposed them both.

    The 30 should have resigned as members of the House of Assembly in 2018 and gone back to the polls and the DLP and other opposition parties should have forced the issue.

    No Parliament is possible under the constitution and Ralf Thorne, like the Reverent Joe is an imposter.

    It’s interesting to see that his wife got a promotion and he got a raise in pay all for the BLP to claim that the “PM” consulted with the “LOO” in the appointment of a former CLICO director as Chief Justice.

  28. I listened to Ralph Thorne’s speech and I enjoyed. In my mind I was drawing comparison to the Maximum Leader and he represented himself very well. It was great to hear a speaker deliver a message without hiding behind some overused and overworked phrases. He may be her equal, or may even surpass her.

    I was always impressed by the deliveries of (ex) Senator Watson. Somehow, she manage to convince me that she was a young lady well above average intelligence.

    Though it came as a surprise, her ‘firing’ it was not completely unexpected. Any fool, could see that she was head and shoulders above the 30 and above the other senators. She was unequalled. One either reward or punishes such excellence. It is unlikely that such a young star would be allowed to distance itself from the others.

    I will Senator Watson the very best as she goes forward. It is unfortunate that because of his insecurity, Ralph may have deprived the island of the expertise and hard-work of one of its best. I am highly disappointed in Ralph.

  29. @ Terence
    Boss, you understand this thing to a ’T’.

    ..if only you spoke in language that regular brass bowls can read – much less understand…

  30. The business of politics is not like running a charity, in fact it is often described as a blood sport. Have we seen Watson attending any of the several meetings held by Thorne in the last six months for example? Unlike Atherley who gave Caswell the freedom to contribute based on his conscience and not ‘party line’ Thorne did no such thing it would appear.

  31. @Bush Tea

    Any political system is undergirded by power structures. Those who control and influence. Think about it.

    It isn’t that simple in Barbados is it.

  32. Living in the moment
    The yogic way of life (which includes politics as it falls into a subcategory of life)
    is to aim and achieve progress in your daily practice not success
    it is a journey and not an end-point destination

  33. “Is Sandra Mason (president) the political leader of Barbados or is it Mia (pm)”

    Sandra Mason is the oversight who oversees the political process

  34. Bushie 7:56

    Why are you so want to seek the simplistic.

    Do you known, for example, that without Black people NASA would not have been able to go into outer space?

    We would not have developed blood transfusions.

    And on and on. Millions of contributions Afrikans made to civilization. Much doing and after slavery, financial colonialism. But yet you insist.

    You and your buddy are ignorant about the Twa-Anu who built the world’s first civilization more than 150,000 years ago.

    Why is it then not possible for a Bajan to find a solution to the deadendedness of capitalism, neoliberalism and Financialization?

    Titular Black people who see everything in such narrow historical contexts must first known themselves.

    That knowledge will confirm that the 400 year period constantly used as a crutch by the Bible readers is in and of itself the problem, revealing the need for a 2000 year determinative epoch.

  35. Any political system is undergirded by power structures. Those who control and influence. Think about it.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Boss, as Terence explained (for those with minds to grasp), what we now call our ‘political systems’ are simply the Mafia-like structures that have been refined by the albino-centrics of this world to enable them to exploit others -to their own materialistic benefits.
    The NATURAL and INSTINCTIVE political systems of Black Peoples tend to be COMMUNITY CENTRIC, Respectful of HONESTY, COMMITMENT, and EXPERIENCE , and completely committee to Godliness.
    We have ALL been brainwashed into this idiocy of GREED and selfishness, EVEN THOUGH THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT held our ancestors in poverty and bondage for centuries, …and even though it now has us HEADED BACK as we speak, into bondage to the SAME albino centric demons.
    As Bushie says, A REAL NATURAL LEADER almost always has to be ASKED to take up the mantl of leadership, …and wise people SPECIFICALLY REQUEST, indeed – BEG, SUCH TREASURES to lead them….
    It takes a SPECIAL kind of blindness to expect that a SELF-CENTERED, EGOTISTICAL, GREEDY, brass bowl, with little to show in terms of personal successful experience, will make a successful leader of a country….
    No wonder they all take bribes, cavort with the rich, to make them even richer, and bullshit the brass bowls with false promises…
    What a place
    What blindness…
  36. @Bush Tea
    You have given up? We do not have the resilience as a result of that psychosis TB mentioned? We cannot afford to wallow and by mired in that thinking. Our children require us to keep fighting.
  37. @ Pacha 8:50am
    This level of spiritual discourse is above your current pay grade… as elevated as THAT is…
    Once you take the road to Damascus and see the necessary light, things will become much clearer….
    You and Kiki are still fishing around in a dark pond with fake bait….
    LOL
    ha ha ha
  38. @ David
    Given up??!!! LOL ha ha ha
    Boss, all is going EXACTLY as planned by the Creator..
    Contrary to your hopes and suggestions, the OBJECTIVE of project ‘Life on Earth’ is not for brass bowls to live ‘happy and financially rewarding’ lives,
    ….but to create the NECESSARY cauldron in which to REFINE DIAMONDS of character.
    That project has proceeded with much success….
    As you know, diamonds REQUIRE much heat, pressure and time, to be transformed from raw carbon into everlasting objects of immense value…
    It is the BIG PICTURE that matters….everything else is collateral….
  39. Kiki 10:04
    Pacha supported Mia Mottley when she had to do the most drastic action any prime minister has had to do in the recent political history of Barbados.
    That is the strategic default and the relationship with the IMF.
    Not because we were ‘siding’ with Mottley and everything that she had done or would have done. But because the country had no other choices, thanks to the DLP.
    Today we are again not ‘siding’ with Thorne because of some presumed allegiance or because we are persuaded that Thorne has any vision or opportunity to fundamentally change the forces around us.
    No! We consider that once Thorne was accepted into the DLP that he was automatically its rightful leader. That prior to this, Yearwood was a political idiot.
    And if given an opportunity to have a sense of political pluralism, even within a system considered to be unable to avoid a calamitous failure, again like with Mottley the choice between a one-party dictatorship and a two-party elected dictatorship, the latter is the least bad option.
    How then can Thorne create any semblance of political diversity, given limited Human Resources, if one of the three leading spokespeople is politically and constructively harboring divided loyalties?
    Please leave us out of your man in the street Manichaeism.
  40. “You and Kiki are still fishing around in a dark pond with fake bait….”
    I am clarifying the shitstem for those who jump at their false conclusions saying the ‘constitution blah blah blah’ without understanding it’s jargon.
    I am not condoning it.
    (Black) people need to ‘feel the spirit’
  41. @Bush Tea
    The blogmaster is aligned therefore by facilitating the shining of light where there is darkness?
  42. “How then can Thorne create any semblance of political diversity, given limited Human Resources, if one of the three leading spokespeople is politically and constructively harboring divided loyalties?”
    A party is made of many individual people with many different points of views
    Thorne’s actions should be rigorously robustly challenged if deemed unacceptable
    He is a cancer in the blood
  43. The blogmaster is aligned therefore by facilitating the shining of light where there is darkness?
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Skippa
    You have NO IDEA of how true a statement THAT is….

  44. To return to the collateral….

    Thorne SHOULD have started his own Party – the ‘New Democratic Party’, and provided an inviting atmosphere for those members of the DLP who are smart Enuff to recognize the party’s recent idiocy, to STEP UP.
    Persons such as Ms Watson would then have been much FREER to bring a new refreshing PROFESSIONAL approach – rather than be expected to kowtow to the current low quality jackasses that run things there…

    Having to fight INTERNAL battles in order to ‘win’ the opportunity to THEN fight external battles with the BLP, is an obvious no-brainer (except that the BLP jokers are just as inept, shady and useless – and inevitably -just like with the Froon/Stinkliar squad- things will become SO BAD, that voters will then vote for ANYTHING ELSE – BUT them…)

    So.. rather that move towards leadership by competent and intelligent persons, we will continue to get leadership by ‘ANYONE ELSE but the last set of jackasses’… as we have had now since the Froon/ Stinkliar era…

    What a place
    what blindness

  45. What is the role of the president (DLP)
    What is the role of the political leader (DLP)

    Is RAT performing the role as that set out for the president

    Isn’t the role of president now being performed by an individual other the RAT or Ronnie0

    The old guard wanted to get rid of the political nincompoop and he played right into their hands

  46. Bushie 9:05

    How can that logically be, when our central argument says that even in that realm you have no conception whatsoever about self.

    Does logic not make certain that you are utterly misguided? Or is yours not the natural outcome of being led astray.

  47. @Bush Tea

    Do you have time for the caterpillar Butterfly story?

  48. @John2

    The role of President and GS are currently being performed by Messrs Worrell and Shepherd under the influence of the political leader of the party. The same occurs in the BLP. Those are admin roles. This is the nuance how business gets done in our political party system.

    “Our children require us to keep fighting…”

    FIGHTING FOR WHAT, BRUH???

    #DoEnlightenUs who have lived for more than 50 years & have seen the “SWINGS” & “ROUNDABOUTS”; “HORSES” & “RIDERS” & the “DAMNABLE HERESY” called “SPIN” – where the “DIRTY BASTERDS” who think they rule over us, seek to blind the “MASSES” with their specious “YARN” – “BLINDFOLDING US WITH A RIBBON OF DARKNESS” while crying #MorningHasBroken!!!

    We now live in a world that is “TRULY SICK” in every way. Your “GOV” is not insistent that the “SEALES”, “GODDARDS”, MASSEYS ET AL provide the nation with “QUALITY FOOD” – instead of all the “PROCESSED CRAP” that is giving the people – “DIABETES”, “HEART DISEASE”, “CANCERS” & A HOSTS OF TURBO-CHARGED DISEASES THAT KILL IN THE TENS OF THOUSANDS”!!!

    We are told that it will be fashionable to “EAT BUGS” (hidden in all kinds of foods); #FakeMeats (processed in “LABS”), while our “PGYMY GOVs” kowtow to #BIGBIZ #BIGAGRO #BIGPHARMA & every other, 3 & 4 letter “SATANICALLY DIABOLICAL INSTITUTION” used to keep us “SICK”, “FOREVER NEEDING PHARMAKEIA, & the constant “HODGE-PODGE” of mindless drivel being fed down our throats, eye-balls, ear-holes & even into our arms & backsides – while we “COMPLY” in “OBEISANCE” & “OBSOLESCENCE” to the “GENUINE ARSES” who “THINK” they run things (UNTIL DIAGNOSED WITH AN UNALTERABLE TERMINUS) to suddenly come face 2 face with their own “MORTALITY”- (what a picture of humanities “VAPID NATURE” on display as they lay transmogrified by a wasted life and the (“INNER MADNESS”) – hoping to find “SOLACE” in a “DEATH-BED-TYPE #Repentance!!!

    I have 3 sons (well, grandsons according to the human league table of intrigue), however, “BIBLICAL EXEGESIS” says: #Sons – the eldest, 19 going on 90, (with a superior “INTELLECT” & “VALUES”) that would have made me look like #DennisTheMenace at his age!!!

    I have dished out the same “MEAT & POTATOES” (though “VEGAN” 4 more time than I can remember) – serving up the same “SOLID BITAL” 4 all of them to chew over. I did not wrap them in cotton wool or cotton candy but dealt with them “UNDERGIRDED” by the same “HARD WORDS” (only “TEMPERED” with “LOVE” & “AFFECTION”) for them to understand that this “STINKING WORLD” cannot change (regardless of who is the “CHANGE-MAKER)!!!

    They have come to understand as young men & boys that their “DESTINY” is not dependant on what “ANY MAN” says – the final “WORD” belongs to “YESHUA MESSIAH”. Men come – men “GO” (thankfully, about friggin’ time) – what remains is “GOD” & His Precious, Holy Word (regardless of what anyone says)!!!

    THIS WORLD IS PASSIN’ AWAY & NOT SOON ENOUGH!!!

    ALL THAT’S IN IT IS MERE FUEL 4 THE FIRE!!!

    MEN LAY UP TREASURES 4 THE DAY OF JUDGMENT & FOOLS BELIEVE THAT LIKE A PIG OR SOME OTHER ANIMAL, THAT THIS IS ALL THAT THERE IS!!!

    WHAT A DELUSION!!!

    WHAT A CURSE!!!

    WHAT IGNOMY!!!

  50. So Ralph Thorne will use his “coattails” to propel DLP candidates to election victory whenever Mia decides to call an election, however if you are a betting man put your money elsewhere. Ms. Watson’s removal from caucus should be seen as a failure of Thorne’s leadership, as the newly minted leader of the Opposition he had a blank slate to select from and he should have selected someone whose vision aligned with his but instead a few months into his tenure as leader of the opposition he must choose a candidate to replace Ms. Watson.

    The party faithful may cheer his announcement, but Ms. Watson is well rid of this group who will find themselves in the bleachers when the voters go to the polls come next election and I predict the remnants will be looking for a new leader at that time.
