The fight against COVID 19 by countries across the globe is real. Barbados given its heavy dependence on tourism (services) is exposed more than some other countries. We are here now and we have to do all that we can to survive. The blogmaster predicted months ago the conversations will shift to finding ways to enforce mandatory vaccinations. It is a conversation currently taking place across the globe, including Barbados.

 

This week’s charts suggest that we might be at the start of a new wave that could last for months as was the case of the earlier 2021 waves in Jamaica, Guyana, T&T and St Lucia and with the added complication of the presence of the very virulent delta variant in the region. The signs that suggest otherwise are that the daily positivity charts are all at less than 5% over the past 3 weeks and that the Covid-19 teams are continuing their good work and that, despite the very high odds against, the aggressive work by the Authorities have so far resulted in fairly significant levels of vaccination take up. The ride will still be a rough one but everyone needs to do their part to conquer this insidious foe

    and those who love to swallow government propaganda whole, need to come to terms with reality and stop being STUPID just because it’s not what they want to hear…..it is what it is, we are down to taking a vaccine to reduce severe symtoms, hospitalization, death or a horrible long haul existence where people have committed suicide just to escape the horror……..or the same scenario from an unknown and only now being tested vaccine…

    .many will survive it…some won’t.

    This administration under the naïve dictator has become extremely lazy in their thinking. We have been led to believe that our economic future is rooted on the introduction of some miracle vaccine. The vaccine, we were told, would lead to a recovery of our economy. I seem to recall that our economy, post Covid-19, had been in a deep frozen state with little evidence of it thawing.
    The mandatory vaccination of our population will bring little relief to an economy which remains rooted in tourism.
    If the article below is true we will need to revaccinate our population every six months. This is never going to happen.
    We need to accept that we lacy the capacity to fight this virus whilst keeping our borders open to foreigners and tourists who are the principal sources of the spread of this virus.

    Mia, needs to introduce plan B.

    Not vaccinated, wear a mask where and when required to, not worth making a scene over a minor inconvenience which I rarely experience!!

    Water ….. not from the desal plant so protected by zone 1 … atleast I hope.

    Like John, I am not vaccinated and wear a mask when required to make others feel comfortable and I think I already had it last year. I also go for daily walks in the sun.

    I would go outside more often but I too afraid to be caught in one of this government’s contact tracing sweeps and have to spend time at a quarantine facility or worse yet time at Harrison’s Point.

    Let’s say China wanted its enemies to shut down their economies, reasonable statement.

    It would show them how successful they were at eradicating COVID through a lockdown … but in a constrained, small area.

    The COVID outbreak never got out of Wuhan.

    Small sacrifiice in a bigger game.

    Lose a few citizens to show how serious the virus was, again, a small sacrifice.

    So the Rest of the World goes in for lockdowns and loses millions of citizens and nails their economies but the lockdowns just don’t work.

    Yet apparently, China eradicated it.

    How did China pull it off and no one else except countries like Dominica, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia can emulate the feat and stop its spread?

    One of them had the temerity to hold up Rand Paul, that attention seeker, as a rational contributor!

    The man is a drama king! Every damn time one person held up a simple vote on a simple matter, one could place a bet on who it was. And if we are reading body language, his screams, “Do not take me seriously!”

    I was just here watching Fauci being interrogated on the issue of the lab. When he is allowed to answer, and he NEVER IS, when Jim Jordan and Rand Paul are putting on their shows, he makes a whole lot of sense.

    All they do is interrupt the man. Last time the poor man kept begging for a chance to answer. And the stupid Democrat in charge was pathetic, AS USUAL. Had NO idea how to control proceedings. It was exasperating, and exhausting to watch.

    It was obvious that THE TRUTH was the last thing these Republicans want to come out. OTHERWISE, THEY WOULD HAVE ASKED QUESTIONS AND LET HIM ANSWER.

    This is why Pelosi refused to allow Jim Jordan on the committee to investigate the January 6th event.

    I think she should have let him have a go at the Fanone policeman.

    That man would excoriate the Jordan Joker, PTSD or not!

    I don’t why i would need to wander around a covid infected country when i not only have amenities but also a wide open space to absorb vitamin D…took some yesterday until i turned a dark burnt….and didn’t have to pay a dime, and no vaccinated spreader in my space or in sight….they have to work….lol..

    who would go out of their way to mingle with infected people, when ther is no need to, are real genieasses…

    I don’t have to come out either. I also have enough room to keep me from feeling boxed in. Yet I don’t brag about being safe from the virus.

    I know I can be forced to go to a hospital by some other ailment-and there meet infected personnel.

    And btw, I don’t know where you got the idea from that I am hoping you catch it.

    I came and found these verses in Psalm 91 long before COVID.

    A friend referred me to Psalm 91 in April 2012 after an “event”.

    I could not understand how I lived through the “event” but I did and all I could think of was psalm 23.

    “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”

    I was rejoicing quietly long before my friend sent me Psalm 91.

    My way of looking at COVID works just fine for me.

    Masks, no sweat, requires no sacrifice to conform

    Social distancing ditto

    In time I may consider having a vaccine but right now I really don’t see the benefit.

    Next year I will review my position and decide what to do.

    I would never wish ill on anyone, God takes care of each of us.

    Incidentally, most of the COVID deaths have probably occurred in Hospitals and sometimes even on stretchers.

    Neither is a guarantee.

    I do not come here on BU to feed the masses with food that accommodates their taste buds. We have plenty of fast food outlets and local shops in Barbados who earn plenty, by feeding our misguided local population imported diseased meat which would be rejected in a number of developed countries. There is a good reason for this.

    When people speak out on valid issues which should alert Bajans they are often shouted down. Why is it considered a sin to critique a country were so much is wrong? Am I not supposed to pass comment on a country which according to the Dictator is supposed to be “the best run black country in the world”. A country that since its independence has never experienced famine, civil war, catastrophic once in a century weather conditions and the rest. Please remind me how did our country benefit from this “God is a Bajan” life chance opportunity. Did our roads or beaches benefit? What of our Unesco status capital city and its built environment? The island still remains dependent on old fashioned standby water pipes and an elementary sewage systems; and poverty on the island remains rampant. I can continue but I will not. I would advice you to do some research on a number of countries who over the last sixty years have gone through hell. These countries have now moved far ahead of Little England.

    How does one expect Barbados to develop when its citizens remain thin skinned with a false sense that they live in a paradise: the so-called gem of the Caribbean. I am a Bajan citizen born outside of Barbados and have never believed that bullshit. I have travelled too much and refuse to dumb down my views to accommodate a narrow minded group of island folks who should know better.

    Frank, remove the scales from your eyes. Barbados is in a truly awful position with a maximum of two or three roles of the dice remaining before it completely implodes. You as a Bajan should be focusing on issues in the link below.

    I keep telling them when they hear the term underdeveloped…it’s all to do with the people’s minds, more so than monetary, because BILLIONS have been generated by Black population over the decades, that could have advanced and EMPOWERED THE MAJORITY and NONE OF IT GO TO THE PEOPLE….IT’S ALL STOLEN..

    My response: we have been led to believe no such thing. Even my grandchildren who are all of elementary school age understand that the current vaccines limit severe illness/death, but that they are not 100% perfect.

    To denigrate, put down, diss, disrespect, discourage the use of the current crop of vaccines because they are not 100% perfect is like denigrating, putting down, dissing, disrespecting the current crop of contraceptives because none of them is100% perfect. If we ALL had never used the imperfect contraceptives we would all have had up to 20+ children just as our parents and grandparents had. And we may ALL have had up to 20+ sexually transmitted diseases too. Some of us would surely be dead. But we were sensible enough to use what was available even though we were well aware that all contraceptives have a “failure rate”

    you are talking about 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation dual descendants from the islands/diaspora and their parents and grandparents….who also represent a risk, but as long as they follow protocols, all is good… had some viist me just last month, who did not want to take vaccine quarantined for a few days, some were vaccinated, all who didn’t want a vaccine tested negative and were good to go, got to hug a grand and everyone else, am stil not infected………AS LONG AS THEY FOLLOWED PROTOCOLS VACCINATED OR NOT….

    can you say the same for the uppity tourists from elsewhere, who are not only FOREIGNERS but STRANGERS…..arrogant and stupid.
