The fight against COVID 19 by countries across the globe is real. Barbados given its heavy dependence on tourism (services) is exposed more than some other countries. We are here now and we have to do all that we can to survive. The blogmaster predicted months ago the conversations will shift to finding ways to enforce mandatory vaccinations. It is a conversation currently taking place across the globe, including Barbados.

This week’s charts suggest that we might be at the start of a new wave that could last for months as was the case of the earlier 2021 waves in Jamaica, Guyana, T&T and St Lucia and with the added complication of the presence of the very virulent delta variant in the region. The signs that suggest otherwise are that the daily positivity charts are all at less than 5% over the past 3 weeks and that the Covid-19 teams are continuing their good work and that, despite the very high odds against, the aggressive work by the Authorities have so far resulted in fairly significant levels of vaccination take up. The ride will still be a rough one but everyone needs to do their part to conquer this insidious foe

  1. PM says employers have duty to ensure workers protected on the job

    July 24, 2021

In an effort to make work environments safer, unvaccinated workers may have to foot the bill for their own COVID-19 tests.

While the issue will be examined during a meeting of the Social Partnership scheduled for next week, Prime Minister Mia Mottley, suggested Friday that it might be the price unvaccinated workers may have to pay for refusing the free vaccine being made available to them.

Mottley told a press conference at Ilaro this afternoon that Cabinet had already made a decision that both Barbadians and tourists leaving the island will now have to pay for their own COVID-19 tests.

She said while workers would not be forced to take the vaccine, employers may have to take certain precautions to ensure the work environment was safe for all employees.

She said the fact that none of the 46 persons in primary and secondary care at Harrison’s Point were vaccinated showed those persons were at a much higher risk of contracting COVID-19.

“The bigger issue that we have to ask is that not everybody is familiar with the law and the reality is that it is not only that an employer has an obligation to have a safe place of work, and we will discuss that next week with the Social Partnership, but there are also implications because regrettably, persons who are responsible for hurting somebody else by deliberately or recklessly transmitting the virus to them knowing full well that they are working in close quarters would be putting themselves at risk not only medically but also legally. And I really, really hope that a strong discussion in the Social Partnership next week will begin to allow us to see the changes that we need to see,” the Prime Minister said.

“Employers have a duty to ensure that there is a safe place of work. That safe place of work can come either as a result of a person being vaccinated or as a result of a person being negative and therefore, regular testing may well be an alternative to vaccination. The question is who will carry the cost of the regular testing largely because vaccinations are free and initial tests are free other than for those who are travelling overseas. The Cabinet has already agreed that people who are travelling overseas whether local or foreign should start paying for their tests now and similarly we may well have to consider it with respect to people who are requiring regular tests because they don’t want a free vaccination. But these are subjects that have to be discussed as we do in Barbados at the Social Partnership.”

Mottley said if a consensus could not be reached at the level of the Social Partnership Government would make a decision.

The Prime Minister said while many people might not be aware, there were vaccine clauses in the collective agreement between the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association and the Barbados Workers’ Union.

  2. Should it not be govt to pass a law requiring mandatory vaccination
Although businesses might have legal standing for protection of good working environment
Unless govt places a law which requires action of mandatory cant see how any business can go above the Constitutional rights of an employee for the employee to be vaccinated
Mottley knows that that there is no easy resolution to passing law for mandatory vaccine
Hence govt has already taken the high road not to imposed such a law
Her words of Business using such a measure flies in opposition to what she has repeated that mandatory vaccination would not be implemented by govt
She knows that this political football would have to be tested in court and given her looking at the up and coming general election prefers to let the business community deal with the problem and the courts having the last word

Workers need to grow their own food, start trading between each other to pay basic bills, find a way to do business off island, and tell Mia and her slave master wannabes to go to hell…shut down the slavery shitshow in Barbados once and for all, that is the opportunity now presented for the PEOPLE TO FREE THEMSELVES FROM THE TRAITORS IN THE PARLIAMENT AND THEIR MINORITY CRIMINAL PARTNERS….get out of their slave system….make you own decisions about YOUR LIFE and that of your FAMILIES…until you are good and ready to be vaccinated…..or remain slaves to these parasites and thieves, it’s a personal choice.

    Seriously
But what position would govt take after given reassurance that govt is not going to insist on mandatory vaccine
Govt cannot have this issue dealt in a manner of politically being polarized
Many people are taking what govt said as reasonable and as law

  7. Doctor Mercola interviews US Cardiologist, Professor of Medicine (at Texas A & M College of Medicine) Dr, Peter McCullough on the importance of early, out-patient treatment of Covid-19 victims and why possible early treatment options have been ignored or even suppressed by medical institutions (who, one would think, should have known better).

    STORY AT-A-GLANCE

Perhaps one of the greatest crimes in this whole pandemic is the refusal by reigning heath authorities to issue early treatment guidance. Instead, they’ve done everything possible to suppress remedies shown to work, whether it be corticosteroids, hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) with zinc, ivermectin, vitamin D or NAC

According to Dr. Peter McCullough, 85% of COVID deaths could have been prevented had early treatment protocols been widely implemented rather than censored

It appears the intense censoring and suppression of early treatments was a strategy to promote as much fear, suffering, hospitalization and death as possible in order to prepare the population to accept a new genre of gene transfer technologies on a mass scale

The overwhelming drive to get a “needle in every arm” is such that health authorities are not even acknowledging the fact that those who have recovered from COVID-19 and many groups have no possibility of benefiting from the vaccine, including younger individuals, pregnant women, women of childbearing potential, and those with immunodeficiencies

Despite FDA warnings for myocarditis with Pfizer and Moderna and cavernous venous thrombosis with Johnson & Johnson, the vaccine cabal keeps propaganda on full blast

In this interview, Dr. Peter McCullough discusses the importance of early treatment for COVID-19, and the potential motivations behind the suppression of safe and effective treatments.

McCullough has impeccable academic credentials. He’s an internist, cardiologist, epidemiologist, a full professor of medicine at Texas A&M College of Medicine in Dallas. He also has a master’s degree in public health and is known for being one of the top five most-published medical researchers in the United States and is the editor of two medical journals.

Early Outpatient Treatment Is Key for Positive Outcomes

McCullough has been an outspoken advocate for early treatment for COVID. In August 2020, McCullough’s landmark paper “Pathophysiological Basis and Rationale for Early Outpatient Treatment of SARS-CoV-2 Infection”1 was published online in the American Journal of Medicine.

The follow-up paper is titled “Multifaceted Highly Targeted Sequential Multidrug Treatment of Early Ambulatory High-Risk SARS-CoV-2 Infection (COVID-19)”2 and was published in Reviews in Cardiovascular Medicine in December 2020.

    SNIP

While the World Health Organization and national health agencies have all rejected treatments suggested by doctors for lack of large-scale randomized controlled studies, McCullough and other doctors working the frontlines took an empiric approach. They looked for signals of benefit in the literature.

“We didn’t demand large randomized trials because we knew they weren’t going to be available for years in the future,” McCullough says. “We didn’t wait for a guidelines body to tell us what to do or some medical society, because we know they work in slow motion. We knew we had to take care of patients now.”

Embedded video of the interview with Dr McCullough at link below to Mercola’s web site. Note that the video is hosted at Bitchute which I find tends to stop/start at random intervals (probably because of the distributed, P2P, hosting model on which it is based) which can be annoying, However, it’s likely within 12 – 24 hrs, the video will have been re-uploaded to some of the new, smoother-running video-hosting sites that have. like bitchute, sprung up to avoid Google/Youtube/Facebook imposed corporate censorship – referring here to sites like BrandNewTube, Odysee, Rumble, Gab, Rokfin, Brighteon etc. (Just add a (dot)com after their names and use the sites’ built in search functions to find the videos you are lookin for.)

  21. Tongue in cheek “I am wondering if Lyall has the correct numbers”

About 37% with a single vaccination and 25% fully vaccinated.

I swear these numbers are much smaller than what heard previously. In previous discussions there was talk of approaching ‘herd immunity’. Are We talking more than we are doing?

That is a genuine question. Don’t take it down any side street.

  22. Lyall’s numbers agree with those on the official release. There is no need to engage in silly discussions about it.

  23. Note:
If a vaccination requires just one shot, then they should be in the fully vaccinated count and not in the first shot count.
Categories: fully vaccinated and not fully vaccinated.

  24. “Mindfulness of breathing is the great vehicle used by the Buddhas to save beings who are drifting and sinking in the ocean of suffering.”
    – Master Tang Hoi
This quote comes from the preface to the Chinese translation of the sutra “Discourse on the Full Awareness of Breathing”
In our own time, mindfulness of breathing is becoming more and more widely embraced and practiced. It is not a Buddhist practice alone. It is accessible and of benefit to practitioners of any spiritual path or those who do not identify with any formal or established spiritual path.

May I be aware of my breath at all times
May my body be peaceful and relaxed
May my steps be gentle and at ease
    and my eyes be compassionate
As an offering to myself, my parents and my loved ones.

May my feelings be peaceful and calm
May my heart and mind be fresh, light and in harmony
May joy and happiness be cultivated
As an offering to myself, to my teacher and friends
and to all creatures supporting my life.

May my mind be quiet, awake and clear
May my mind always be directed to wholesome ways
May I maintain my concentration on the beauties of life, to see the wisdom of life
As an offering to myself, to every wish of the people and to the callings of the world.

With lightness, may I always be aware of the impermanence of all that is
May I be free from craving and aversion
May I dwell in equanimity and love
May mother earth be at peace and continue to offer her love and beauty,
    to forgive and embrace.

With the UK adopting the strategy of lifting most of its internal COVID-19 restrictions, we can assess how far mankind have come regarding this pandemic. Starting at the top, COVID-19 is a highly contagious respiratory virus to which data shown has a very high recovery rate. Approx 90% of cases can recover without the aid of a vaccine\drug. To this end, in my estimation, COVID-19 will fall inline within the other common respiratory viruses know to man ( e.g. the numerous viruses that causes the common cold, the influenza virus). Mankind has been unable to eliminate these viruses. The next best strategy is to see how best we can live with these viruses and reduce the amount of deaths they cause.

The initial problem with COVID-19 is that unlike the previous coronavirus outbreaks, public health measures were unable to nip the pandemic in the bud. As a “novel” virus, mankind has not had the level of herd immunity as with the other respiratory viruses. So even though it has a high recovery rate, individuals are still highly contagious while the immune system fights off the virus without the aid of a vaccine\drug. Govt’s worldwide had the social responsibility to contain the spread to protect the vulnerable and to reduce the burden on the health system. Hence measures like quarantining, social distancing, face mask mandates and Wuhan type lockdowns were utilized. The Wuhan type lockdown is the most draconian as it has a highly debilitating effect on the economy, but is used as a relatively short term measure to stop runaway spread.

Since Dec 2020, multiple COVID-19 vaccines with high efficacy rates against SEVERE DISEASE (i.e. death prevention) have been developed and deployed. Vaccines are seen as a more precise tool to combat viruses as it help the individual’s own immune system to fight them off in a safe way. As seen with other vaccines, if they don’t totally eradicate viruses they drastically reduce the contagiousness and their debilitating effect on individuals. So mankind is at the point where govts want to have a deeper penetration of these vaccinations within the population. What does this mean as as far as the war against Covid-19 is concerned?. In my opinion As long as the vaccinations can outpace the spread of a virus that has a high recovery rate to begin with, mankind can transition from a virus to be “dreaded” to a virus that we can live with. It must be noted that once one recovers from Covid-19, a natural immunity has be built up to the virus and close variants. Like with most other respiratory viruses, a person can be re-infected with a close variant but effects become less debilitating. The immune system has been prepped but now has to build up immunity to the variant.
This is how mankind survives with the flu and the common cold. As expected, COVID-19 variants have arisen as we are dealing with a virus that multiplies by the billions. Via natural selection, these variants have shown to be more transmissible and may be slight more debilitating. In my mind these variants are only of academic interest. They are no more a worry as long as the recovery rate remains around the same as the original COVID-19 virus strain. Just like the flu, I expect booster shots to be developed to combat COVID-19 variants.

Using some numbers, the UK for example 36 million people have been fully vaccinated (approx 50% of the population) over 7 months vs 5.5m total CONFIRMED cases over 16 months of the pandemic ( and currently between 600,000 – 900,000 active cases and approx 120,000 total deaths). Vaccinations are outpacing the infections and by extension the deaths. In my opinion as long as this trend continues, the The Wuhan type lockdown becomes unnecessary. The UK has chosen to lift the social distancing and face mask mandates (but not the traffic light system for international travel). The logic is that the Covid spread will eventually hit the immunization wall regardless of if that immunization occurred via infection or via vaccine. With the UK being a vaccine producer, with over 50% vaccine penetration for a virus that has a high survival rate vs the 8% of the population that caught the virus, the danger covid-19 poses is waning. People can slowly return closer to a sense of normal before textbook herd immunity has been reached.

In Barbados at this point, 73,000 people have been fully vaccinated over 7 months vs 4,300 cases and 48 deaths over 16 months. Again as long as vaccination can outpace the spread, the necessity for the Wuhan type lockdown weakens. However as Barbados is not a vaccine producer and is currently dependent on donation\ allocations via COVAX the other less draconian measures can still be used to slow down the spread. People can have a mind set that this is the beginning of the end of the epidemic

In my opinion, once govts worldwide have provided an adequate number of COVID-19 vaccines in their countries, developed a SENSIBLE method of deployment. and continue to enforce the secondary prevention measures, It constitutes reasonable steps taken to mitigate the virus spread. The responsibility to prevent virus spread slowly transitions from that of govt to that of the individual. The individual have the following choices.

    1) Take the vaccine, which have a high efficacy against severe disease and reducing virus spread. but is not mandatory.

    2) Refuse to take vaccines but use secondary measures to DELAY catching the virus .i.e. mask wearing, social distancing, avoiding crowds and social gatherings.

    3) Do none of the above and take their chances with a virus that has a high recovery rate in the first place. Along with choice 2, the issue is that in the SHORT TERM they may subject themselves to regular testing, travel and other movement restrictions

Who determines what is a silly discussion. It is the arrogant and dismissive attitude that you have for some and the kiss-ass attitude for others that often lead to nastiness here.

I’ve hear talk of approaching her immunity, but these numbers are not in that vicinity. It is natural to ask if the numbers are accurate.

Is there only room for Kool aid drinkers?

  29. I heard talk of approaching herd immunity, but these numbers are not in that vicinity. It is natural to ask if the numbers are accurate.

  30. A fair comment reasonable commmenters can add to.

  31. We do have to take into consideration those under 18 and not yet eligible for vaccination in Barbados. What is the percentage of those eligible who have actually been vaccinated?

    P.S. David,

Play the ball, not the bowler. It is not a silly argument.

  32. @Donna

We are doing our best and learning from mistakes made while trying to survive this thing. See DLPTV’s comment. We do not manufacture vaccine.

  33. So far, all of Barbados’ infections AND DEATHS have been because of TOURISTS…or those returning to the island like Ambassador Covid…which is also worth an accurate analysis…pimping tourists will be the death of the population because of backward governments…

  34. This conundrum is a difficult one brought on by more than one factor.

First, there is extreme distrust of governments almost everywhere, for which our politicians are responsible. They have not been seen to be acting in the best interests of the majority of their electorates. They have promised much and delivered little. This is the LOGICAL outcome, really, not stupid as some may say. WHY WOULD PEOPLE AUTOMATICALLY TRUST OTHERS WHO HAVE LIED REPEATEDLY AND FAILED TO DELIVER ON SO MANY PROMISES.

Then there is religion – and its lying leaders. Preaching the Bible literally, especially the book of Revelation would also lead to hesitancy in taking this vaccine. The “prophecy” leads to conspiracy theories about some stupid mark of the beast and micro-chip control and all that goes with that belief. The behaviour of many of these church leaders indicates that they don’t even truly believe most of what they preach. They are conmen and women controlling their congregants’ minds primarily to gain control of their purse strings.

And then, there is the effect of the human rights leaders who have stressed individual rights without paying attention to the flipside which is responsiblities. No man or woman is an island. Much of what we do affects others. We have lost sight of that.

So…I may have the right to catch covid but I do not have the right to pass it to others. My responsibility is to protect others.

These vaccines are not one hundred per cent effective. If we all are vaccinated it reduces the odds of catching it and passing it on.

So….here we are! Can anybody sort this mess out so we can get on with living?

It calls for patience and understanding. Heavy-handed tactics are liable to breed futher distrust and resistance. Persuasion is the way to go.

P.S. I chose to be vaccinated because though I may not trust the Government in many things, I don’t see how killing me would fit in with its plans.

I also know that the “powers that be” do not need to embed a micro-chip into me to track or control me.

And finally, common sense dictates that my freedom ends where the next person’s begins. Freedom is not absolute. There must be balance between my rights and everybody elses’. Situations must be managed as they arise and rights and responsibilities examined and adjusted accordingly.

And as for side effects- EVERYTHING in life has those. We weigh the risks and decide which is outcome is more probable or which outcome is least desirable.

  35. “We do have to take into consideration those under 18 and not yet eligible for vaccination in Barbados. What is the percentage of those eligible who have actually been vaccinated?”

Very good point. That may be the answer to the my question.

Perhaps the eligible population was not the denominator. Reading the numbers in the US can be extremely difficult – some articles will talk of the “total population, age >=18” and others of “total population”. However the similarity of the statistics makes me believe that both are using the eligible population.

  36. This is a clarifying comment. Barbadians returning from overseas whether from business or leisure also count as incoming – therefore the probability is present the the virus has other opportunities to enter Barbados.

  37. A few months back WHO gave the go ahead for vaccinated people to discard mask
Presently the call has been rescinded
How much can the human mind endure with these never ending dos and donts
Far from finding a feasible solution
An environment of mass hysteria brought about by fear has been created

  38. Am in agreement with this…..read it twice. I read parts of, i believe it was, the labor laws posted to BU some years ago, and it STILL explicitly labels employers as “masters” and employees as “servants”…that’s the outright illegal nastiness still existing in Slave Society Barbados perpetrated by traitors in the parliament and minority thieves and racists….time to bring it all to an end one way or the other….just remember how many billions of dollars are missing from the economy and how many employees and their familes are in POVERTY…..or this pure evil ENDORSED by Barbados’ slave parliaent will never end..

“To me, this goes back to a colonial mindset of the relationship between an employer and an employee. An employee is not a slave, it is a service. And we have to come to the realization that without the employee there is no employer. So, the problem is that because we have so many people right now looking for jobs, it empowers the employer to feel like they are indispensable. But you would see that if there is a job that there are not many candidates to fulfil that position, how valuable that employee becomes”.

“An outspoken member of the Rastafarian community is suggesting that any unvaccinated private sector worker who is forced by their employer to take a COVID-19 test should take the matter to court for justice.

Public Relations Officer of the Rastafari Progressive Movements (PRM) Paul Ras Simba Akoma Rock is predicting that while the issue of unvaccinated private sector workers having to foot the bill for their own COVID-19 tests will be closely examined during a meeting of the Social Partnership scheduled for next week, the law courts is going to be flooded with cases of workers taking their bosses to court.

Ras Simba, who said he has been monitoring the heated debate on the development which came to light on Friday, said that the employer who needs the worker’s skill to get the job done should be required to pay for the employee to have the test done.

He said: “If I am an electrician and I work for the Light & Power and there is an emergency in Christ Church but I don’t have a car and I live in St Lucy, they are going to pay for a taxi or somebody to come for me to come and do that work? You feel they are going to tell me that I have to pay for my own taxi to come to do their work?

“To me, this goes back to a colonial mindset of the relationship between an employer and an employee. An employee is not a slave, it is a service. And we have to come to the realization that without the employee there is no employer. So, the problem is that because we have so many people right now looking for jobs, it empowers the employer to feel like they are indispensable. But you would see that if there is a job that there are not many candidates to fulfil that position, how valuable that employee becomes”.

During a press conference at Ilaro Court on Friday, Prime Minister Mia Mottley told the nation that workers having to pay for their own COVID-19 tests may be the price they will have to pay for refusing the free vaccine being made available to them. Mottley said workers would not be forced to take the vaccine, but noted that employers may have to take precautions to ensure the work environment remains safe for all workers.

Meanwhile, Ras Simba said that he is hoping employees bombard the courts with matters relating to the COVID-19 vaccine and having to pay for the COVID-19 test if that becomes mandatory.

Ras Simba said: “Put pressure on the court. Put pressure on the Government. As long as we sit down and take and allow others to direct the narrative we are not going to get very far”.

The Public Relations Officer said that the time has come for persons and groups that are strongly against the COVID-19 vaccine to unite and do what is legally possible to prevent Government or private sector employers from forcing workers to take the vaccine in the future or having to pay for their own PCR test. This is a clarifying comment. Barbadians returning from overseas whether from business or leisure also count as incoming – therefore the probability is present the the virus has other opportunities to enter Barbados

    Xxxxx
Most have been saying that for months but the usual refrain lends itself to the economy
Furthermore the vaccine has said to have immunity effect for a period of six months
Which begs to ask after six months then what in such a case will there be ever meeting the threshold of herd immunity
In all probabilities hard to see masses repeating the vaccine multiple times

  40. just remember how many billions of dollars are MISSING from the economy and how many EMPLOYEES and their familes are LIVING in generational POVERTY for the last 60 YEARS…..in their “master” “servant” social partnership of THIEVES relationship.

  41. We endure what we have to survive and protect our family.

  42. Voice of Barbados @11AM will have medical experts available to explode (hopefully) some of the bullshit the ignorant among us disseminate on social media.

This is still a vaccine in trial and it’s infancy
The jury is still out on its overall effect
Reason why people are told to wear mask after vaccinated
