As Barbados is about to embark on the latest nine day wonder namely the shooting death of the young policemen and the cries from all and sundry for tougher laws, hangings, getting back to god etc.  we are trapped in the circular conversation which will bring no solutions and just the usual bluster from pundits (political and otherwise).

There is only one solution (quite a simple one) for the myriad ills that plague this society however their must be great intestinal fortitude by the political directorate if we are to be successful. We are a people who have been taught to hate ourselves, the outcome of the miseducation that continually churns out societally dysfunctional persons for nation building but functional for this system to maintain and refine itself. The solution of which we speak is EDUCATION. We have gone far and wide adding various ‘reforms’ to the educational system but to no avail as we are doomed to failure continually forcing Eurocentric and now Asiatic systems, beliefs and models on African people. We have truly lost our minds – as a collective and as individuals -please ponder on that. We haven’t tried it because those who have some modicum of control over our children’s education must show more courage and actually believe that the end result will be a well-rounded citizen. This journey will have to begin at nursery school extending to tertiary education and lifelong learning – I do not mean the celebration of ‘black history month’, African Day and other nonsensical tokenism given by those who only confuse us. We must chart our journey now. The Europeans make 100 year plans we however struggle to make a 5 year one but this is to be expected as this is what the system produces and replicates.

As an example, one of my children having entered third form in secondary school presented his history book ‘The People Who Came’ to me and shook his head – skimming through I was shocked, this was a book first published in 1970 and replete with mis-information. A total Eurocentric view, Europe reigned supreme, Africa and other nonwhite peoples of the world are characterized as backward. Africans enter the picture as slaves in the ‘new world’. If we continually programme our children with self-hate, what do we expect to happen. What would happen if you teach children the truth of their existence that they were the first persons to walk this earth, the ones who created the sciences, writing systems, who built the first cities whose manta everywhere we went was ‘man know thyself’ – a testament to the life dedicated to learning.

Please have the vision to go forth and recapture our glory

  1. We have go back to three pillars of African Academics: (1) Know thyself (2) know the society (3) know thy environment.

  2. Which African academics? You have rightly and repeatedly stated that Africa is a continent of divers ethnicities and cultures. Are you now admitting that there is or can be a common thread that unites them?

Do they have more in common than you have previously admitted?

Is Africanness more than just being born in some country in Africa, as you previously suggested?

Is there a common thread that distinguishes ALL Africans from Europeans.

Must each and every Barbadian trace his or her tribal origins before we can reclaim the rudiments of our heritage and forge an Afrocentric path for the future?

Can we, the descendants of African people collectively unite and purge ourselves of Eurocentric miseducational poison such as that injected by the cockeyed perspective of the infamous text The People who Came?

  3. That being said, some schools use better texts and my son’s Social Studies teachers never used the books at all.

As a matter of fact, his teachers, both female, did not present from the European perspective. European fallacies were pointed out. Many of the children enjoyed the classes and respected the teachers.

So dat is how some of de yout’ get so! Some of de yout’ dat me an’ WURA have faith in.

Not all teachers peddle miseducation and not all of our young people are self-hating and self-destructive.

I posted a video here some weeks ago, all African descended have to go BACK TO THE BEGINNING…some on the continent call it DEWHITENIZATION and REAFRIKANIZATION….if you do not go back to the beginning AND FIND OUT WHO YOU REALLY ARE…there is NO moving forward..

it’s a personal journey and has to be done individually, no one who has made the journey can tell you about theirs…because we all came from very different cultural and spiritual beginnings many, many thousands of years ago….find YOUR people, find who you really are and watch the difference…key words are….WHO YOU REALLY ARE..

..and keep the politics and other distractions that are NOT YOURS and NEVER WILL BE out of it.

  6. Donna

I know that I’ve espoused the view that the African continent weren’t a unified entity, but these Three Pillars of African Academics, were part and parcel of African ethos before the advent of the White man to the African continent. And I shall elaborate in more detail a little earlier this morning, when I have the allotted time.

  7. Donna

the point I am trying to emphasize here is the fact that these Three Pillars of African Academics were not written in stone, but they were pervasive throughout the African continent before the arrival of the White man, and they weren’t given the time to developed as they should have, before the European imposed their system of academics upon the African continent.

  8. @Donna, if you follow those school text books, you will believe a lie your whole life. They led me me believe that most Barbadians including myself are from Ghana. That may not be true. What my DNA testing showed is Nigeria 32%, Benin and Togo 27%, The Cameroon 16%, Ghana and Sierra Leon 13%, Mali 8% and the other remaining % from Ireland, Scotland and England.

Ghana is 4th. The truth is that the majority are mixed, mixed West African and a mixture of African and European.

The Text books must be changed.

Heather…that’s why a few years ago i implored Bajans specifically and Caribbean people particularly to get genetically tested…some bloodlines contain all out SHOCKS..

however, you can still find YOUR PEOPLE on the continent and connect…testing to know the bloodlines is the first step.

  10. Donna

Now had our forefathers on the African mainland been given the opportunity to developed their own system of academics, they wouldn’t have had to looked upon the English or American system of Academics as the model or the source, but they could have looked upon the African model as the most appropriate for their particular needs.
And as I have stated above: the African Academic system aimed at orienting the entire life of the man. The first pillar of the African academic system as I’ve stated above is, ” Man, know thyself”; the second pillar, ” know thy environment”; the third pillar, ” know thy society”; and I had forgotten to mentioned the fourth pillar which is the harmony of the three pillars, for a practical solution of life’s problems.
Moreover, the forefathers believed that the problems of life must be tackled practically and realistically because they believed in education in action or nothing at all. And lastly, the African Academic system in short, aimed at the development of the man, so that was intelligently equipped to start the journey of life.
And there you have it Donna ….compliments of Dompey ….

  11. Donna

And I do not have the time to elaborate in depth, as to how these four pillars were implemented, but I will say that the emphasis on the skillful use of the mind and hand.
The father took the responsibility of introducing the boy to field work, and taught him the rudiments of trade. The mother, took care of the girl and initiated her into household cares and famine tasks.

  12. Donna

The forefathers also had a concept called “Economic Democracy”, and Economic Democracy is a system whereby every African girl and boy, man and woman is given and has the opportunity to participate in the economic endeavour of the community according to his or her capacity and talents. In other words: the economic system is to serve the interest of the individual and not the individual to worship the economic set-up of the community.

  13. You may have it back, Dompey. I do not want it.

  14. Heather,

So…. if we are mixed what should our culture be.

    WURA,

Some people are trying to eat. No money for DNA testing. No money for trips to Africa.

  15. WURA-War-on-U Avatar

I told them about the genetic testing years ago on BU, at least 3-4, when there was still money around and Africa is going nowhere…it’s always been there, it’s just those westernized minds never wanted to hear about it…. and always will be there for Africans and their descendants..that’s why it’s called ancestral lands…and whenever those who connect find their people, they will know why as some of us have already found out..

  16. For a number of years, I have discussed this country.

They are barbaric, the reason i was asking incessantly in the last few years what the hell Argentina was doing in Barbados when they are so anti-African, racist and hate-filled.

..think i saw few months ago where they left the island, should not have been anywhere near Black people to begin with….they are not the type of beasts you want sniffing around any Black country…

  18. @ Donna, a potpourri of the culture from all sides should be our culture. However that has not been the case as the poor whites in Barbados either as they do no practice any culture from Ireland or Scotland. All that is known on both sides of the black and white spectrum is the Plantation culture.

  19. @ Donna, the government was supposed to build a museum and genealogical center to facilitate dna testing. It does not appear that it will happen by next election.
However, that does not stop us from creating family trees.
There is so much information that is unknown about our family tree that it may be a headstart to cover this area before dna testing is done on a large scale.

That’s why the Chinese and Indians are descending on Africa.

The Congo is another extremely rich country among the Disunited States of Sub-Saharan Africa.

Divide and rule by religion and war was the modus operandi of the European invaders.

  24. WURA-War-on-U Avatar

They are all thieves with their fake aid..

The younger generation will fix all of that, am confident.

You should see how they are descending on the continent like parasites, a plague of human locusts, pestilence.

  25. Ugly Shaka Zulu’ not accurate history

ON WEDNESDAY May 19, at about 6:50 p.m., this writer was in a public service vehicle (ZR), travelling from Palmetto Square to Bush Hall, when a local disc-jockey’s patter caught our attention. At the end of a tune he commented, “Boy, if anybody say dat yuh ugly like Shaka Zulu, yuh real ugly fuh true.”
Our anger at this declaration drove this normally very quiet passenger to deliver a seven-minute speech against the dismissive declaration of that radio DJ. On the urgings of the driver and our fellow passengers, we here repeat our comments about “Ugly Shaka Zulu”.
The nub of our argument is that the particular DJ was spreading false notions about one of Africa’s greatest black kings and indulging in racial self-hate. We contended that: 1. If the DJ was mentioning the most famous Southern African emperor, Shaka, King of the Zulus, please note that he was never photographed or painted, thus it is ridiculous for anyone to decide he was handsome or otherwise. There were no cameras in those days (the late 1700s and early 1800s) nor were any lithographs taken of him. 2. Shaka was never called “Shaka Zulu.” He is always referred to as Shaka, King of the Zulus. “Shaka Zulu” is a creation of Hollywood and the white media. 3. Shaka (1787-1828) was called “the Zulu Napoleon” (just as the great West Indies batsman George Headley was called “the Black Bradman”) and he was a great conqueror who created the Zulu nation in Southern Africa.
This was the greatest empire in what is now Natal, Lesotho, Swaziland and Mozambique. He flourished at the same time as Emperor Napoleon I of France (1769-1821), but strangely enough, no one in Barbados can be heard uttering disparaging, insulting or demeaning remarks about either the name or the person of France’s most famous dictator.
    Course in the history
References to Napoleon (for example, “Napoleon Solo” in films) always emphasise characteristics of boldness, high intelligence, handsome features and decisiveness.
We are therefore pleading with the radio stations in this island to expose their popular DJs to a thorough course in the history of the Black race, Africa and Africa’s great leaders. No other race in Barbados is subjected to the racial self-hate that flows daily from the mouths of DJs. We are aware that the phrase “Shaka Zulu, ugly like a boo-boo” may have come out of the Jamaican dancehall scene.
That is no reason for DJs to spread that highly offensive rant, especially when it represents “fake news” and exposes an African iconic King to hatred, ridicule and contempt in the minds of all of our population, particularly the impressionable and unknowing black youth.
More on this point of racial self-hate through misinformation will be submitted later.

  26. The Bajan tribe repatriating back to modern Africa do not necessarily have to locate the precise specific tribe and location their ancestors came from 400 years ago and should find a location somewhere where they will find a high quality standard of life whether it is in an urban centre, beach or other beautiful scenery.

Even Major Mackerel, a Jamaican Dancehall DJ of the 1980s, who sung negatively of the Zulu King Shaka Zulu, apologized in an interview about his criticization of Shaka Zulu looks in his Dance Hall lyrics and he further stated: “He did not know better.”

  29. How many times do we have to tell the police force to STOP describing Black/African people as though they are run away slaves…….. when they are missing…

“Keba is about five feet, nine inches tall, has a dark complexion and is slim. She has short black hair, a large nose and thick lips.”

    a large nose = A PROMINENT NOSE
    thick lips = FULL LIPS…

the slave description is ugly, the slave mentality is even worse…

  30. WURA-War-on-U Avatar

I guess we should be grateful they didn’t describe her black hair as knotty head…

  31. @ WURA-War-on-U,
I can tell you that white Brits would be shocked to the core with these descriptions of black people.

However such descriptions reveals how backwards the country is.

  32. These descriptions were commented on previously. I thought the ‘police’ stopped with these slavish description.

You are seeing the product of being literate without understanding/knowing your history or loving yourself. Can read and write, but not understanding.

  33. WURA-War-on-U Avatar

It’s repulsive, hard core racists would be startled at how Black people, especially those in positions of authority treat each other, they don’t even attempt to introduce a modicum of civility…

it leads right back to the miseducation system with NO useful UPGRADES for the last 54 years….these people have no identities and would BE SHOCKED OUT OF THEIR MINDS to find out who they really are….it’s by design that they keep degrading and miniaturizing themselves and each other…

what disgusts me is that whites would not only pay millions they would also KILL to have FULL LIPS…..and everything else that these fools degrade..

  34. WURA-War-on-U Avatar

Something has to give, it’s time for the African populations in Barbados and around the region to find out WHO THEY REALLY ARE…and it’s the responsibility of these useless governments to do it, because they are the ones who DEPRIVED THEM OF THEIR IDENTITIES…..willfully and maliciously..

this is UNACCEPTABLE and cannot continue.

    https://www.nationnews.com/2021/06/03/missing-keba-margaret-niles/

anyone with at least 2 functioning brain cells would tell you that the image the police was projecting in people’s minds about this missing SPECIAL NEEDS young lady, diminished capacity = SPECIAL NEEDS…does not correlate to reality…her nose is AVERAGE and not prominent….her lips are AVERAGE and not THICK…but FULL…and NORMAL for someone of African descent..

a dictionary should be put on the desk of every police officer in those stations…so they can have a better grasp of basic words AND A WIDER VOCABULARY…

how do they expect anyone to help them find her when the image they describe is of some beast….and has nothing to do with her actual physical features..

  39. Description does not fit at all. I would have walked right past her.

  40. WURA-War-on-U Avatar

I have watched how the police describe Black people who are missing or wanted…especially how they describe Black men like themselves and it’s NEVER ACCURATE…

the description is ALWAYS of some wild beast/slave who escaped from some dungeon belonging to slave masters, but when you actually see the photos of the dudes in the newpapers…IT LOOKS NOTHING like what the police describe, just like in this instance, there is nothing big or even prominent about this young lady’s nose, there is no thickness or over fulness to her lips either, wide lips would have been a better and more accurate description, but that is not what the police sees.

then there is the medical description of “diminished capacity”, no one can look at someone first glance and tell whether they are special needs, especially if they are high functioning…..and especially if ya not a psychologist….again, wrong description.

been seeing this go on for decades and the only conclusion is that it’s how the police see themselves in their own minds, that is how they describe Black people who look just like them…there is a mental problem, there is evidence of damaged minds…

there is too much work to be done to UNDO all this mental damage, experts and in-depth education are needed for this..

  41. There is so much truth in what you speak. We are a damaged breed. Expect your argument to be rebutted by the usual suspects.

Where and how do we build a nation with a people whose minds are at best damaged.

  42. WURA-War-on-U Avatar

They can rebut, but they can’t change reality especially when everything is devolving instead of evolving, the population is being reduced at a rapid pace, they are the ones to end the social carnage, no one can do it for them, we can only bring it to their attention…and protect our own families from it…everyone else is on their own, and is destined for mutually assured destruction/damage, which no one will care about, if they don’t care about themselves..

  43. WURA-War-on-U Avatar

This is when you know who you are and can believe in your abilities and yourself….this is who creatives are….a real role model who build centers around the rural areas of Benin so that young girls and women can become empowered and autonomous, independent of social reduction like a tourism industry and other poverty creating parasitic societal endeavors.
