@Miller I actually listen to Peter Wickham response to the Rastas stance on Brass Tacks. And even though his response was VERY crass, many people would share his basic sentiment that Rastafarians would “do what they want to do”. I don’t think many people demonized Rastas now as compared to when the religion first appeared. I mean far more people accept parts of their lifestyle into everyday living now than before. Peter is a known atheist and doesn’t care if he expresses HIS OPINIONS in a crass manner, or if his opinion is “offensive”. Naturally one who strongly believes in one’s faith \ opinion would seek to “demonize” the other. The Rasta stance is just that, one stance/opinion on a subject. Jehovah Witnesses, Christians, Muslims, Jews, Closed Brethren have their stances it doesn’t not make them superior or inferior, it is just different. Over time religious groups modify and “modernize” their stances.
Rastafarians made their opinion on the COVID-19 vaccine public and it falls in line with their general opinion on “Western medicine”. Nobody is forcing any group bound by religion, gender, age, nationality to take any medication but I can guarantee you some people will “break ranks” from what is the “general opinion” within that group and do what is in their personal interest if a particular situation necessitates them to do so.

A very well argued and convincing piece in ‘interest’ of illumination and ‘science’.
But there is one element that ought to be ‘further’ highlighted.
The question the average layman might ask is:
If the vaccine is based on a ‘common’ formulary why are there so many ‘producers’ of a vaccine to fight Covid-19?
What has become of the concept “economies of scale”?
Why incur so much ‘fixed’ costs by so many different ‘manufacturers’ in different countries all of which have to be recouped (including an ongoing reward for their immeasurable efforts) from the poor taxpayers and ‘frightened’ consumers?
Isn’t this similar to the competition found among oil companies retailing the same basic petrol for the same ICE-powered vehicles but under a different brand name?

Your position is fair and balanced.
Commonsense and Science always override religious bigotry in the race for survival unless an outlier like the Jim Jones brand of brainwashing appears on the scene.
But from what one can garner, Peter Wickham is not a full-fledged atheist but an ‘agnostic’ or ‘indecisive’ atheist who takes great umbrage (quite rationally so) to the concept of the omnipotence and omniscience of the Jewish god called Yahweh or Jehovah Jireh or even “Jah”.
An ‘old’ god of a past Age for whom the Rastafarians seem to have some ‘special adoration where mankind is viewed as some manipulative puppet of a creation by some invisible being in the sky instead of Jah being a ‘merely passing’ figment of the human imagination.
He, Wick Ham, on the other hand seems to have a leaning towards the Hinduism brand of religion(s) embracing, like the Greeks, a pantheon of gods and goddesses based on the concept of ‘poly-deism’.
Maybe Bajans, on the ‘circular’ reasoning of Wickham, should learn to embrace Shiva with his unbroken trident instead of holding on to a fast disappearing age of Yahweh through David through Yeshua through Muhammad.

Oh No!!! Mainstream Media Organs Caught Spreading Fake Vaccine News!!!
The Fulton County medical examiner said the coroner never saw Aaron’s body, much less conducted an examination. By implying that the Fulton County coroner conducted an autopsy, the New York Times and other media outlets deceived their readers.
By Robert F Kennedy Jr.
By
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
Late last month, the mainstream media attacked me in a regimented swarm “debunking” my quote in The Defender questioning whether Hank Aaron’s death might have been related to the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine he received 18 days earlier.
I never said that the Moderna shot caused Aaron’s death. I simply made the factual observation that “Aaron’s tragic death is part of a wave of suspicious deaths among elderly closely following administration of COVID vaccines.”
Among the apoplectic hive of “fact checkers” that condemned this statement as “misinformation” were Meet the Press, NBC, The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, Chicago Tribune, Inside Edition and many more.
The Daily Beast headline summarized the media’s moral revulsion at my query: “RFK Jr. Stoops to New Low by Falsely Tying Hank Aaron’s Death to Vaccine.”
Shortly after this high-tech media lynching, Instagram permanently deplatformed my 800,000 follower account.
The New York Times, citing the Fulton County coroner’s office, assured the public that “the Covid vaccine did not kill Hank Aaron.” NBC’s national wire service reported that the Fulton County coroner declared that Aaron’s death was from “natural causes unrelated to the vaccine.”
Fact checkers falsely claimed the coroner exonerated the Moderna vaccine

Quote: “Then there is word on the street that a group of not so covert popular people on social media are posting the same pro-vaccine, pro-Government narrative day in and day out. From what I was told it seems to be organised and not simply coincidental. Apparently, it is a gestapo-type movement which appears to target people with large followings. Then once that person is in the gang their social media post and stance on the recent COVID crisis is totally in sync with that of the Government.” (BB Today)
It is obvious that my fair and balanced attitude is bearing fruit. Of course, we must vaccinate all residents. I know many vaccinated people, all of whom are doing very well and praise our dear Supreme Leader Mia Mottley as their savior. Anyone who speaks out against the AZ vaccine is acting unpatriotically and may be committing a crime under emergency legislation.
So if your neighbours criticise the vaccination campaign, you know what to do: report it to the public prosecutor’s office.
All of us are trying to put on our fortune teller hats but only the future knows whether the vaccine or any of the other measures will work or not.
What we do know for certain about the vaccine and this virus is
1) Children have very little to no risk with this virus so they should be excluded from the vaccine.
2) Long term vaccine side effects are unknown
3) We can’t keep the country and economy on pause or increasing numbers of people will lose the roofs over their heads and their livelihoods spiraling them into the poverty hole.
Based on those above facts, One of Crusoe’s earlier comment is possibly the wisest comment on the way forward everyone should be able to agree on is:
1) Exclude all persons under 18 from the vaccine
2) Let all adults who want to take the vaccine register and prioritize distribution based on risk factors like number of comorbidities and age
3) Stop isolating every positive case. Stop the mass testing and ONLY quarantine, test then isolate symptomatic people so they can be closely monitored until they no longer have symptoms.
4) End the mask law, fully open up the country and let who wants to wear their mask or require it to enter their premises do so.
This is still supposed to be a free country where we take personal responsibility for us and our wards last time I checked.
Cuhdear BajanFebruary 13, 2021 1:14 PM
Which part of the vaccine process is incomprehensible to you?
Creating, testing and discovering the impact, i.e. results of testing, takes time. That is just the process. Again, if you are happy having a product with no quality assurance, for which processes were skipped and from which one cannot sue the manufacturer for adverse effects, injected in to your body good on you. Still does not change the facts.
Carry on.
Bostic added that WHO also indicated the vaccine was proven to have a high level of efficacy and was recommended by WHO for use “even in countries that have circulation of the (South African) variant”. Up to this point, the Covid-19 vaccine is recommended for people under 18 years old, but research is now ongoing to test the suitability of the AstraZeneca vaccine for minors……(Quote)
A new trial is to test how well the Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine works in children.
Some 300 volunteers will take part, with the first vaccinations in the trial taking place later in February.
Researchers will assess whether the jab produces a strong immune response in children aged between six and 17.
The vaccine is one of two being used to protect against serious illness and death from Covid in the UK, along with the Pfizer-BioNTech jab.
As many as 240 children will receive the vaccine – and the others a control meningitis jab – when the trial gets under way….(Quote)

“As many as 240 children will receive the vaccine – and the others a control meningitis jab – when the trial gets under way….(Quote)”
The quoted material is very telling.
So the control group is getting a jab of meningitis…The control group will not be given a placebo…Interesting or at least it should be.
So what happens when the meningitis jab, in the control group, produces ill effect? How are the researchers possibly going to determine the effectiveness of the ‘vaccine’ if it is compared to results of a person injected with meningitis?
In the real vaccine process, the control group is given a placebo.
Everything is reversed, upside down and backwards.
Carry on.

“In the real vaccine process, the control group is given a placebo.”
They speak with authority and make no attempt to understand what they are talking about. In what follows saline control would’ve been be the ‘placebo’.
“The MenACWY vaccine is being used as an ‘active control’ vaccine in this study, to help us understand participants’ response to ChAdOx1 nCoV-19. The reason for using this vaccine, rather than a saline control, is because we expect to see some minor side effects from the ChAdOx1 nCOV-19 vaccine such as a sore arm, headache and fever. Saline does not cause any of these side effects. If participants were to receive only this vaccine or a saline control, and went on to develop side effects, they would be aware that they had received the new vaccine. It is critical for this study that participants remain blinded to whether or not they have received the vaccine, as, if they knew, this could affect their health behaviour in the community following vaccinatio, and may lead to a bias in the results of the study. “
I dislike much of the science that I see stated on BU. Often statements are made with a finality that is misleading.
I would advise you to do your own googling. Those who want to control information will criticize your googling and at the same time present you with their alternative facts.
I have often seen you make a statement and then arrive at the following conclusion…
“End the mask law, fully open up the country and let who wants to wear their mask or require it to enter their premises do so.”
I have been unable to make the connection. If you have time, please give your argument against mask wearing.
Some dont seem to know the definition of medical trials. They are hearing one thing but their brain is telling them that the vaccine is tried and true. I have personally seen 2 year trials and they are needed, it was not for a vaccine which is more complicated.
Again, incorrect assumptions leading to an unfortunate conclusion.
The problem is not that you are discussing with an open mind, you are being disingenuous when you pretend to be. You are taking a position and drawing firm conclusions, attacking the status quo, without proper research.
That is not critical thinking.
Hint, there is a reason why they are using the meningitis vaccine in the control group.
Go and research it properly, before drawing conclusions.

Oh, I responded before I saw that you gave the answer to him already and set him right.

For example, they are the only vaccine among the frontrunners that doesn’t have an inactive placebo comparison group. It’s being compared to another vaccine, presumably to increase the effectiveness of blinding because you would get some adverse effects of vaccination. Not having an inactive placebo arm, though, is a frequent discrediting tactic for trials of vaccines.”

It is not about mask wearing.
We have a vaccine now and only time will tell if it works or not. We also have mitigation and treatment options as well. We have now wasted a year hiding from COVID causing serious harm to our livelihood and economy. It is time we stop living under a rock and get on with our lives.

A Simple response: Small pox vaccine had not been used on human before it was used on humans.
My mother had to take the small pox vaccine when she traveled for the first time in 1971. When I started traveling I did not have to take it.
I decided to take the yellow fever vaccine once when it traveled to a place where there was a relatively minor chance of getting yellow fever. I didn’t want yellow fever messing with me since about 15% of people who get yellow fever develop serious illness that can lead to bleeding, shock, organ failure, and sometimes death.
Cuhdear BajanFebruary 13, 2021 4:45 PM
I have not looked into the process by which the Small pox vaccine was created. I assume they followed the process. This new type of ‘vaccine’, gene therapy in reality, is not the same as conventional vaccines. Conventional vaccines do not impact DNA. They do not tamper with your genes, i,e, your DNA in any way. They do not modify you forever. One does not become a genetically modified organism with conventional vaccines,
@carib
I will deal only with your first link… here is text from the first link and it is clear that they do not take s firm position against the use of another vaccine. In fact it states “But there is a more generous argument to be made for administering the control group with a vaccine against meningitis: to give them something of value.”
The remainder of the first article
“So now we arrive at a particularly tricky example: a trial where, by all indications, a saline placebo should be used but is not. A team in the United Kingdom is conducting a trial of a new COVID-19 vaccine (charmingly called ChAdOx1 nCOV-19) and they are comparing it not to a saline injection but to a vaccine against meningitis. It has been reported as the only frontrunner for a COVID-19 vaccine that is not using a true placebo as a control. The World Health Organization’s expert panel on placebos used in vaccine trials does underscore the validity of using a different vaccine as a control (one whose safety is well characterized), but notes that it “may also be less acceptable to regulators or public health authorities and potentially delay approval or adoption of a new vaccine.” I reached out to the team conducting the UK trial and was told the reason they changed their mind from using a saline injection to using the meningitis vaccine was that saline injections don’t cause a sore arm, which might unwittingly reveal to the volunteers what group they are in. No soreness after the injection? You may have received a placebo, which could alter your behaviour and thus add a nasty variable to explain away the results of the trial.
This official explanation, however, is questionable. Injecting a saline solution into a muscle can be associated with side effects, as many vaccine trials have demonstrated. Also, comparing an experimental COVID-19 vaccine that has so far been shown to cause a fair amount of physical reactions (pain, fever) to a meningitis vaccine that can also cause these temporary side effects will certainly paint a kinder picture of the COVID vaccine. But there is a more generous argument to be made for administering the control group with a vaccine against meningitis: to give them something of value.
I wish the road to vaccine approval had clearer rules. What we are left with is a human system that has served us quite well in the past (with regards to vaccine safety and efficacy) but which is susceptible to excessive pressure. The bottom line is that, as far as COVID-19 vaccines are concerned, clinical trial data will be presented to regulatory authorities… but also to fellow scientists. And it will be scrutinized by good-faith researchers and by anti-vaccine activists alike. Only by interpreting the data in light of solid scientific judgment and not ideological denialism will we be able to make a sound decision”

The point of providing the links was to support the fact that a saline solution was used, conventionally, as the placebo in vaccine trials. I said it was interesting that a meningitis vaccine was being used in the trials quoted by a commenter. The response was that I did not know anything. They know it all. I simply provided links to support my comment, a fact, about use of saline solution. I, at no time, referenced any other parts of the articles. Both articles make a point of noting the use of a vaccine as a placebo in the on-going human trials. Just curious.

The small pox vaccine came out of West Africa, then through North Africa to Turkey then to Britain. Indian Brahmins also practised the craft.
Cotton Mather, the American Puritan, learned of small pox vaccinations from his slave, Onesimus, who told him it was common practice in what is now Ghana.
