Although not out of the woods Barbadians were told based on the week over week numbers “we are in a better place”, however, we need to keep our guard up. We can do this people!

  1. preapared them in advance

    THEM = the bajan public

  2. @ John A

If you need urgent groceries and it is not your alphabet day, most people will just get a neighbour to buy the products for them.

  3. The big issue here and elsewhere is that some residents do not appreciate the importance of behaving responsibly during a pandemic. It means therefore the government via public health agency has to take charge based on the best advice, mindful there is no blueprint. Unlike other commodity based economies who can close borders for extended periods, Barbados, service based, will be under pressure to do the same. We are in a position we have to balance economic livelihood and public health concerns.

  4. @Artax

Agree with you. Also John A must be aware one can order online from many businesses born of the pandemic which are still operating. We have to be willing to modify old ass behaviours.

  5. @ Theo

I forgot to add is also causes people to stock pile items for fear that they may run out before their next shopping day as was evident last time they used it.

The point is though that If you want me to accept your data then it does not point to a need for the ABC nonesence. If you are saying that there is a need to revert to that at this stage, then I must question the data. It really is that simple.

  6. I see this abc thing as doing the following
    (1) Forcing people to shop responsibly. Instead of visiting the shop every two minutes, you make a list and go shopping when it is your turn

    (2) in a sense, it strengthens social distancing. Instead of running into every Tom, Dick and Harry in a shop seven days a week, you will only run into one of them on a certain day.

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    WHAT A BOVINE ARGUMENT.

WHO GOES TO A SHOP LITERALLY OR FIGURATIVELY EVERYDAY UNLESS AN ALCOHOLIC.

COMMON SENSE AND NOT DOLLARS WOULD BE TO STOP ALL INCOMING TRAVEL FROM UK AT LEAST FOR SOME PERIOD OF TIME.

THE IDIOTS ON THE 2 x 3 ISLAND HAS NO CAPABILITY TO TELL IF EITHER STRAIN OF THE SUPER SPREADER COVID VARIANT IS ON ISLAND OR THE SOUTH AFRICA VERSION WHERE THE VACCINES MAY NOT BE EFFECTIVE AGAINST.

ABC QUEUING SHIT WILL NOT STOP FOOLISHNESS AND BAD DECISIONS BY BLP GOVERNMENT WHILST RISKING THE LIVES OF LOCALS.

  7. @ David

Who you calling an old ass? LOL

  8. @John A

This is an old argument proved to be false.

  9. Some people do run to the shop everyday.

Not doing exchanges. I stand by my opinion.

  10. @John A

The reference was to the argument used plus Vincent has absconded of late…LOL

  11. And that is what makes life so interesting the ability to have different opinions and share them. Unless of course if you in Russia.

  12. @ David

You right make fun of we old people. Vincent say he ain’t taking no chances with the new strain of covid cause you might be able to catch it online. So he done with the computer for now! 😁

  13. @John A

You are doing our good pal Vincent too bad. The blogmaster will not permit it!

  14. “COMMON SENSE AND NOT DOLLARS WOULD BE TO STOP ALL INCOMING TRAVEL FROM UK AT LEAST FOR SOME PERIOD OF TIME.”

the intelligent thing to do, for a short peroid and unravel the mess before the fire Enuff is talking about turns into an inferno and roasts Mia as PM…this happened because they only listen to a bunch of greedy ass minorities and not people who actually want to see EVERYONE ON THE ISLAND SURVIVE…had they listened to who saw these things coming, the outcome would be quite different.

just bear in mind that it will soon be a year that Covid’s been around, if they don’t learn anything now, they never will.

  15. “.I cancelled my usual trip this year even though every day I get emails from air canada ,west jet ,terra etc wanting me to go ”

they’re trying to tempt you, aware of your proclivities…lol

  16. WURA
Your response at 11:27am just further proves that you’re a clown.

  17. The viru sis mutating. there are a british, south africian and usa strain. soon there may be a carribbean strain

shut the country down until when??

The new strains are more contagious but so far there is no prove that they are more deadly.
vaccines seem to be able to work for all.

Bim dropped it guard. the health once again stepped up and did an excellent job

  18. just bear in mind that it will soon be a year that Covid’s been around, if they don’t learn anything now, they never will.

THE FIRST TRAVEL RELATED COVID CASE IN THE USA WAS JANUARY 2020 A YEAR AGO COMING OUT OF WUHAN CHINA.

HOWEVER RESEARCHERS LATER LEARNED THAT IT HAD BEEN IN USA AROUND NOVEMBER 2019 WITH FIRST HOSPITALIZED PATIENT IN CALIFORNIA 2019 AND THAT CHINA TRAVELERS IN HUNDREDS OF THOUSAND UNSUSPECTING THROUGHOUT THE USA BEFORE THE ALARM WAS MADE MONTHS LATER MARCH/APRIL 2020 TO WEAR MASKS, SANITIZE, SOCIAL DISTANCE HOWEVER BY THIS TIME HAD SPREAD ALL OVER THE COUNTRY UNDETECTED.

OVER A YEAR LATER THE 2 x 3 ISLAND BECAUSE OF WHITE GREED AND BLACK SELLOUT LACKEYS HAVEN’T LEARNT A FUCKING THING AND NOW SUGGESTING ABC ROUNDUP.

I GUESS THEY ARE PUNCHING AGAINST THEIR WEIGHT IN WHITE SHADOWS GREED AND THEIR OWN STUPIDITY.

First Travel-related Case of 2019 Novel Coronavirus Detected in United States

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today confirmed the first case of 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in the United States in the state of Washington. The patient recently returned from Wuhan, China, where an outbreak of pneumonia caused by this novel coronavirus has been ongoing since December 2019. While originally thought to be spreading from animal-to-person, there are growing indications that limited person-to-person spread is happening. It’s unclear how easily this virus is spreading between people.

The patient from Washington with confirmed 2019-nCoV infection returned to the United States from Wuhan on January 15, 2020. The patient sought care at a medical facility in the state of Washington, where the patient was treated for the illness. Based on the patient’s travel history and symptoms, healthcare professionals suspected this new coronavirus. A clinical specimen was collected and sent to CDC overnight, where laboratory testing yesterday confirmed the diagnosis via CDC’s Real time Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (rRT-PCR) test.

CDC has been proactively preparing for the introduction of 2019-nCoV in the United States for weeks, including:

First alerting clinicians on January 8, 2020, to be on the look-out for patients with respiratory symptoms and a history of travel to Wuhan, China.
Developing guidance for clinicians for testing and management of 2019-nCoV, as well as guidance for home care of patients with 2019-nCoV.
Developing a diagnostic test to detect this virus in clinical specimens, accelerating the time it takes to detect infection. Currently, testing for this virus must take place at CDC, but in the coming days and weeks, CDC will share these tests with domestic and international partners
On January 17, 2020, CDC began implementing public health entry screening at San Francisco (SFO), New York (JFK), and Los Angeles (LAX) airports. This week CDC will add entry health screening at two more airports – Atlanta (ATL) and Chicago (ORD).
CDC has activated its Emergency Operations Center to better provide ongoing support to the 2019-nCoV response.

did you city of millions or the cuntry it is in closed it borders?

  20. @ David

Also if they want to bring back the ABC nonesence then how come they don’t plan to restrict bus capacity too then? Again knee jerk reaction

  21. I sincerely hope Mia gets this right, the 2nd wave they said is much more challenging than the first.

“Barbados: It is said that politics is like theatre. There seems to be some truth to that claim, for whenever this Government and in particular, the Prime Minister feels that public opinion has moved against it, a staged play is presented where the star and costars are selected to ensure the plot is articulated to the satisfaction of the star and to appease a gullible audience. Such was the stunt played out across the airwaves on Monday, January 4th, 2021. If the situation was not so grave, the entire episode would be laughable.

Whatever one’s political persuasion, it must be admitted that another great piece of theatre was in evidence with the star getting all the lines right, the sets in place, and the supporting casts meeting the accepted performance levels. But what about the audience and how did the plot relieve the tension of the multitude who were drawn to the media to hear a new episode in the Mottley directed drama.

The billboard said there would be a press conference to give a COVID-19 update featuring Prime Minister the Hon. Mia Amor Mottley, Health and Wellness Minister Lt. Col. Hon, Jeffrey Bostic, Home Affairs Information, Broadcasting and Public Affairs Minister Wilfred Abrahams and Covid-19 Cabinet Sub-Committee Chairman Sen. the Hon. Dr. Jerome Walcott. Included for the public appetite was the promise of a question and answer session with the Prime Minister.

The new head of the COVID-19 unit was his smooth self, language chosen with care and embellishing the introductions of the cast with his usual use of intonation and slur. The costar from Health stolid to the point of melancholic gave a version of an organization that made Mottley’s treatment of Maria Agard, Lucille Moe, George Payne high points in political administration. But credit must be given to him for effort and for staying within the plot even if the pain of the exercise showed.

Also starring was the man in charge of the prison and whether or not the defense force and police officers visit the establishment no one goes in or no one leaves. Yet we await the results of those not yet tested and look forward to the report on the state of the inmates. He did stay with the plot and should receive at least a return in the next episode.

But the moment belonged to the star. The outfit was well-chosen, the sets carefully selected, and the supporting staff sufficiently trained to make the story believable even if it was closer to fiction. The star called on all the experts only to “show” that she knows more than they. On community spread and local transmission, neither expert could inform the star, for at the end she was still “confused”.

On the matter of borders, in my mind, the greatest concern of most Barbadians, the star was unmoving in her view that more damage would be done by closure. The star must explain more damage to whom or to what? All our health resources are under pressure, especially the human resource. All our police services are under pressure, especially our human. All our transport services are under pressure, especially our human resources. In short, the people of Barbados are all under pressure and need space to breathe again.

Pressure can bring the best out of some people, but usually it leads to mistakes. A report incorrectly completed by a laboratory technician, a nurse, a doctor can become the breaking point and lead to greater stress for the entire nation. The star must recognize that another Oscar for her should not mean more than the overall health of this nation; not only covid-19 safe but the mental health of those workers pressured into making Barbados safe. Barbadians may have voted 30-0, but they are not stupid!

From the look on his face, Lt. Col. Bostic is a worried man, and it is not about the star’s continually taking the spot light from him but because he appears genuinely concerned about the state of affairs. Barbadians have for the last two and a half years given the star the podium to do her acting. COVID-19 is not going away, and from the evidence over the days following the theatre, it is likely to get worse. The star should recognize that we are in serious trouble and the time for acting has long passed. Please let the medical and other professional personages do their work and you can take a bow, the Oscar goes to?

the talk now about bringing back the ABC is to to avoid what you just called it – a knee jerk reaction.

The country has been put on notice incase it becomes a reality.

    Cant please all

The only business place needing the ABC system is Popular and SAS in town. Them two always crowded no matter what time you go.

Otherwise, the ABC is not needed now.

Leading up to Christmas, you could have run a rat through all the stores and supermarkets and the few that had higher numbers limited the numbers inside when they reached higher numbers and did one out, one in rules at the door.

January is already the slowest time of the year. No need to put limits in place.

  27. having consultations is to prevent the accusation of it being a unilateral decision

  28. The trend continues. Not trying to nit-pick but yet another voice who offered divergent views has been coopted into a new committee to speak about Covid 19.The Head Of BAMP was vocal about the protocol policy and wanted the time extended so as to capture any incubating viruses after the first test of visitors. Now she cannot say those kinds of things as she ii now on the committee to speak about government policy. Remember that BAMP is the union for Doctors.Who will speak of their grievances?

  29. Baje

all that info and you avoiding answering the question

Did your adopted cuntry close it borders?

  30. baje

What is the covid rate in ur city/country/cuntry

  31. @CA

Is there an outbreak at the present time or not.

Should there be an attempt to signal the population or cannot be business as usual?

Spot on. You got her modus operandi absolutely right. She believes everyone has a price.

I bet that talk about re-instituting ABC cause a rush on the supermarkets.

  34. Is there anyone preventing the head of BAMP from excusing herself from the committee if she disagrees with anything? Maybe she is being blackmailed.

  35. @John 2

The PM needs to talk with the the business places and let them tell her how slow January and February have been compared to last year. I can tell you for a fact 99% of them are down double digits on the same period of 2020. The traffic in these places is way down on last year as well and the businesses do not need another unnecessary hurdle to deal with when it is not cAlled for.

  36. @John A

Make up your mind, border closed or open!

SHE REALLY NEEDS TO STOP PUNCHING OVER HER PHYSICAL WEIGHT WHILST HAVING THE WHOLE 2 x 3 ISLAND IN CHAOS AND LIVING IN FEAR BECAUSE OF WHITE SHADOWS IN THE HOTEL/TOURISM INDUSTRY DIRECTING HER EVERY MOVE AT THE DETRIMENT OF THE LOCAL BLACK POPULATION.

  38. THE ONLY CUNTRY I SEE IS YOUR 2 x 3 ISLAND BARBADOS

  39. A.

didnt she say she is going to talk to their representative body before making a decision?

  40. David
    This is Barbados.
Where you feel works? Even if she has a private practice, she must still have access to QEH services. She must operate to survive in this small island where it is who you know. By the way Donald Trump had that power.

That signalling is what creates the panic or rush like it did when they announced they were closing the island in a few hours when they did the lockdown in March.

If you force me to shop on a schedule, I am going to spend longer in the place to make sure I get everything I might want because I know I can’t just nip back if I get home and realize I forget something.

I also would not have a curfew and stop public transport at 9 but I would have all businesses close their doors at 9pm outside the obvious exceptions like gas stations.

  42. We have arrived at this Corona crisis because our population still worships white Anglo-Americans like gods and copies their bad behavior.

Time to look to Asia: The sun rises in the East! We are facing an Asian century, America and Little Britain in ruins. What we need is iron discipline, hard work 12 hours a day and a tough government.

On the latter point we have already reached Asian levels thanks to Mia Mottley and Charles Jong. But what we still need is Asian work ethics. Here I see clear deficits. Chinese should also be taught as a compulsory second language at school. Likewise, we should abolish the monarchy and rename our country the “People’s Republic of Barbados.”

Time to turn Barbados into the Singapore of the Caribbean! Time to turn away from Little Britain.

  43. @CA

Last time the country was under a more severe lockdown. Let us give it a chance IF private sector agrees.

  44. WURA
You don’t even recognise the fire I am referring to. Stupse. Lives v livelihoods. So far the number of deaths remains at 7. Just stay in your safe location and gloat.

  45. Today reported new cases 23. It is trending in the right direction. Let us continue to follow the instructions to wash hands, social distance and wear masks. If we do we will get pass this bump. Life is about confronting adversity, we are better for it.

  46. AIR CANADA STILL BRINGING TOURISTS TO BARBADOS

” There’s no getting around it — lockdown measures don’t seem to be working in Ontario and Quebec the second time around.

Health experts say Canada’s hardest-hit provinces have consistently failed to contain the spread of COVID-19 with inadequate, poorly timed restrictions, leaving little choice but for much more draconian rules to be introduced.

But where exactly did we go wrong? And where do we go from here?

Despite declaring lockdowns as they’d done to control the spread of COVID-19 in the pandemic’s first wave, Ontario and Quebec hesitated to impose strict enough measures to prevent an even deadlier second wave, some experts say.”

    @David January 9, 2021 1:54 PM
    This is not an outbreak.

They had a super spreader event at the prison because of weak covid protocols. Cases are greatly on the decline No need to panic and overreact. This is not March 2020.
    – They know the science behind how the virus works and spreads.
    – The have adequate testing in place.

They only need to focus on finding treatments that work in the early if the identified cases become symptomatic. We can’t wait on the agencies like WHO, FDA and CDC to tell us what treatments they have approved for us to use.

Our doctors have to read the studies for ourselves and solve it for ourselves.

    It is not rocket science.

  48. One of the issues I have with our discussion is that issues are often given in absolutes.

There is no attempt to come to grips with the reasoning behind our government policies, no attempt to understand the why or the outcomes of different actions.

Feed in opposing pieces of data and a few always come to the same conclusion, the government is wrong. It appears that they have found the universal answer in a single word.

    Dare I call it a 1×1 answer?

Those same few have a luxury that the government cannot afford as they can be pigheaded and blind; they can lock in a position and stick to it, for their words dissipates as soon as they are spoken. Their words have little or no impact on the citizens of Barbados. In fact, their words may not carry weight even in their own household.

Let me add that at times this government and it’s agencies have been far from perfect, but the one thing that this government knows is that it’s policies affect the whole island.

It knows that issues cannot be taken one at a time; that fixing one item can break others or create new problems. It knows that a working balance must be found so that, in the end, we benefit more than we suffer.

Do you think a fisherman with a single line can stop fishing because there is are🦈🦈🦈 (sharks) in the water? What about his family? Can you see him sitting at a table with a wife and some hungry children and him saying “life before work” or “life before money”
Force to beg or to dumpster dive?

At some stage his dear wife may be forced to say ‘a quality life’, ‘life with dignity’, ‘life is more than misery’.

  49. Yeap trending downward
Slow the speed of testings and numbers would fall
However that can translate to local transmission as total adds up
Liars can figure and figures can lie
Anyone seeing the uptake starting last weekend not going to pay much attention to govt dash board
The messages being sent through various lockdown and business closures tell a daunting picture
