The FBI is investigating the death of George Floyd, black man who was pinned on the neck by a police officer and later died in custody. Minnesota’s Attorney General Keith Ellison joins The Beat with Ari Melber’s breaking coverage on the latest from the FBI and the protests. While the officers involved have yet to be charged, Ellison argues a “quick arrest” might “make people feel better about justice” it is “important” for investigators to “take the time to make sure that these charges, if they are brought forward, stick.

  2. Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) marched Sunday alongside hundreds of evangelicals protesting racism and the death of George Floyd, as the crowd around them eventually swelled to more than 1,000 in the nation’s capital.

The former presidential nominee said in an interview that he wanted to find “a way to end violence and brutality, and to make sure that people understand that black lives matter.”

He is the first Republican senator known to join the demonstrations in the city. President Trump, who last week declared himself “your president of law and order” retweeted a letter from his former attorney John Dowd that referred to the protesters as “terrorists.”

Under a beating afternoon sun, protesters around Romney waved signs with biblical phrases and chanted: “Do justice! Do justice!”

Editor of Alabama newspaper calls for the Ku Klux Klan to ‘night ride again’

The editorial in the Democrat-Reporter weekly in Linden railed against Democrats who “are plotting to raise taxes” in the state.
    By Minyvonne Burke

The editor of a newspaper in Alabama wrote an editorial that called for the Ku Klux Klan “to night ride again” against Democrats who “are plotting to raise taxes” in the state.

The editorial, titled “Klan needs to ride again,” appeared in a Feb. 14 print edition of the Democrat-Reporter in Linden, a weekly newspaper covering Marengo County.

Goodloe Sutton, editor and publisher of the newspaper, confirmed to several local media outlets that he wrote the editorial.

“If we could get the Klan to go up there and clean out D.C., we’d all been better off,” he told the Montgomery Advertiser. “We’ll get the hemp ropes out, loop them over a tall limb and hang all of them.”

In the editorial, Sutton writes that the Democrats and Democrats in the Republican Party “do not understand how to eliminate expenses when money is needed in other areas.”

“This socialist-communist ideology sounds good to the ignorant, the uneducated, and the simple-minded people,” he wrote.

The editorial led to outrage after it was shared on Twitter by Chip Brownlee, a journalist for the Alabama Political Reporter. Brownlee told NBC News he is familiar with the Democrat-Reporter and decided to post a picture of the editorial because he “thought other people needed to see it, too.”

“As an editor, seeing that type of dangerous language in a newspaper is disturbing,” he said. “I think sunlight is the best disinfectant.”

The editorial also caught the attention of Sen. Doug Jones, D-Ala., who called on Sutton to resign.

“OMG! What rock did this guy crawl out from under? This editorial is absolutely disgusting & he should resign -NOW,” Jones tweeted. “I have seen what happens when we stand by while people-especially those with influence- publish racist, hateful views. Words matter. Actions matter. Resign now!”

“For the millions of people of color who have been terrorized by white supremacy, this kind of ‘editorializing’ about lynching is not a joke — it is a threat,” she tweeted. “These comments are deeply offensive and inappropriate, especially in 2019.”

I have consulted with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and other groups. I have seen no evidence among the ADL Reports that ANTIFA is a “terrorist” organization, or has ever been charged in any courts in the USA with killing anyone. As I have told conservatives, ANTIFA has never killed anyone. Nor has “Black Lives Natter”. Nor has Rev. Al Sharpton or other activists.

So who killed the black police captain at the BLACK LIVES MATTER protest or the ANTIFA riot/looting spree?

To which does Stephen Cannon belong?

  19. ‘Everything is under perfect control’: Trump says he ordered National Guard to leave DC

President Donald Trump said in a tweet Sunday that he had ordered the National Guard to withdraw from Washington, D.C., after calling them in response to protests in the capital city that occasionally devolved into vandalism, looting and clashes with police.

“I have just given an order for our National Guard to start the process of withdrawing from Washington, D.C., now that everything is under perfect control,” Trump tweeted. “They will be going home, but can quickly return, if needed. Far fewer protesters showed up last night than anticipated!”

Protests have taken place in Washington, and across the U.S., since George Floyd, a black man, died after a Minneapolis police officer held him down with a knee on his neck. The president has called for a tough response to the protests in order to “dominate the streets” and has threatened to call in active-duty troops to quell unrest in cities where local authorities were unable to do so.

Powell seems to be incapable of getting facts correct. Powell got up before the UN and made an ass of himself with the weapons of mass destruction. He helped start the war in Iraq( he should be tried as a war criminal). He is a toady; he went and presented a case for a cause that he knew was built on fraudulent grounds. Now he is talking about Trump breaching the constitution. As Bill Barr said on faced the nation on CBS yesterday, Trump has the constitutional authority to used troops to quell civil unrest.

  24. @ Hal

I noticed that some disturbances took place with the BLM demonstrations in the UK. Seems BLM (UK) want to follow BLM(US) and descend into chaos.

  25. Minneapolis councilors have voted to abolish the city’s ‘toxic’ police force after the death of George Floyd.

We will see what will happen in due course especially with the black on black killings and robberies.

  26. @ Robert

Plse sit down and I will explain, if you do not get it ask again: Police brutality and harassment of black people has been going on since the end of the war, the arrival of Windrush. A large number of people have died in police custody, many have been shot and killed; part of this harassment is detention under the mental health act (if you are not a criminal then you must be mad).
It does not matter who you are, being black is enough. A few years ago there was a police roadblock in Peckham, in South London, and police were stopping black derivers and basically asking them for details. A car with four black men came down. They were stopped. The young police officer asked them to get out of the car, the driver pulled out his Scotland Yard warrant card; the young officer hesitated, but pushed on by asking each one to get out of the car and each one pilled out a warrant card. He eventually told them to go.
It was summer and by this time there was a crowd of mainly young black guys. And they started shouting at the police. It was a good example of how lots of hard work to create a better relationship between police and young black people was destroyed within a couple minutes of racist policing.
The incident with George Floyd, his savage murder, is from the same mindset of the slave driver killing a slave, of a white barrister in Barbados beating a young black man for walking in his area, of a white barrister showing his bottom to a judge and not being reprimanded.
Racism is a virus, there is a pandemic of it in the UK, it is not exclusively an American thing. It is behaviour driven by privilege, by entitlement, by knowing nothing would happen, and if, by chance there is an outcry, then money can smooth it.
@Robert, at your age it is unlikely you will change your mind. All I can ask is that you think about what young people all over the world – except in Barbados – have been protesting about.
@Robert, you went to a school where the most vile and obnoxious of people, Stanton Gittens, was headmaster. We now have a government that represents this social behaviour. That was and is class. Gittens succeeded a white headmaster, a Welshman, the architect of the school culture we now all celebrate. Think about it.

  27. What kind of cuntry has statues of Slave Traders in it’s shitty city of iniquities
you may as well put up statues of the Devil

The elite thieves in Barbados love to add the word royal to everything they tiefing, it is a pattern, so since the cousins in the Palace love to add the word royal to everything too….one must ask, what do they know about all these THEFTS OF LAND and ESTATES etc from the people of Barbados, cause it’s very clear that the local THIEVES who are at the top of government and the judiciary had no problem attaching their names and the word royal to these THEFTS as though they are invincible and untouchable…yes we noted they STOLE EVERYTHING and have people in Canada and everywhere else claiming ownership, everyone except the local people these properties belong to….

  37. @ Greene

Barbados is a complex nation. Things are never what they seem. Most often the very actors in the pantomime are not even aware they are acting. A young pop group in South Korea has donated $1m to Black Lives Matter – and the fans went out and doubled it immediately.
Our president, who will speak for three hours on why ice melts in heat, has remained silent. The silent talker. I have said on numerous occasions that Mottley is head and shoulders above her Cabinet. Has any member of the Cabinet spoken out about George Floyd? Is it not strange that all 26 should remain silent at a time when for the last two weeks or so the entire liberal world has been torn apart with anger at what happened in Minnesota?
Does it not surprise you that a professional protester such as David Commissiong was absent from the march on Saturday. Coincidence?
Despots are often elected charismatic leaders, it is not new. Read Plato’s The Republic. Plato was not a democrat. I know some people do not like us learning from Europeans and North Americans, but read How Democracies Die, by Levitsky and Ziblatt. It is a good guide to how states are captured by bullies. Can you get more undemocratic than telling people they may work but not get paid. The last time that happened was during slavery.
For those who think it cannot happen here, when the jack boots march through your sitting room will be too late to protest.

  38. WURA-War-on-U Avatar

Something has to be done about this situation in Barbados where they steal properties from generations of people, it is not normal, fair nor legal just like the racism and oppression they allow to be practiced and cannot continue, they only do it because the court system has been corrupt from the 1960s and nothing has ever changed..but the world is now being enlightened about this little island where evil is practiced against the people….so yes, the marches to dismantle all that evil emanating form those in the parliament and the judiciary against the people must begin…how bout that.

  39. WURA-War-on-U Avatar
