Mia Mottley Prosecutes Government on CORRUPTION in Her Reply to 2015 Budget

Those  Democratic Labour Party (DLP) members in parliament advocated the need for Barbados to enact Integrity and Freedom of Information legislation prior to being elected in 2008. There was an expectation Barbadians would have seen movement on this issue within 100 days of the DLP government […] taking office. It is an indictment on civil society we have not been able to pressure government to treat this issue as a priority.  In fact, the DLP was re-elected in 2013 and transparency legislation did not feature as a key platform issue.

It is ironic Mia Mottley’s contribution in the 2015 Budget Debate  has positioned the issue of graft and corruption in government squarely in the public’s domain. If we are to evaluate the fervour which some members of parliament on Mottley’s side supported her on the issue there is a lot to be said about the political class closing ranks.

Here is the Leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley’s reply to the 2015 Budget (first hour clipped).

    The single most critical issue to be addressed in Barbados is that of corruption.

    It makes LITTLE sense to address specific issues (like transport, water etc) – only to have corrupt, future-officials again rape the treasury to their heart’s content – and put us back t square one …like happened before.

    When the people in power can be sitting on millions in STOLEN monies from the treasury
    – who in their right minds would expect these SAME people to now enact legislation that condemns THEM and their lifestyle.

    How much money was made from the DAYLIGHT ROBBERY that we called ‘Barrack building…”
    By:
    – Many current top level ministers of government?
    – Big names in the Senate?

    How much money was mined from the Cave, BWA, Four Seasons, Transport Board,
    By:
    – CURRENT high-influence persons in government?
    – Top legal ‘beacons’ in the society?
    – Top public officers?

    When TOP officials are so OBVIOUSLY involved in corruption – WITHOUT CONSEQUENCES,
    what would you expect lower level officials (like customs officers, policemen, Permanent secretaries, ….. clerks ) to do?

    Caswell could have reversed the rot…. but THAT chance passed since 2015….
    Our collective asses are headed for grass … with plimplers….

    How do you account for Barbados rating on the Corruption Index as one of the world’s least corrupt countries. You cant endorse international agencies rating Barbados as one the most indebted countries and all the other bad economic indicators and rubbish the Corruption index. You cant cherry pick which rankings apply to Barbados.

    The international agencies who measure corruption levels…go DIRECTLY TO THE CORRUPT…and ask them …ARE YOU CORRUPT???

    three guesses what answers they have gotten from BOTH governments over the years….including from ALL WHO ARE CORRUPT……

    They were supposed to change that exercise in futility…let’s hope they do….and bring a new way of accessing small island corruption….outside of asking the crooks in parliament…

    There is no corruption in Barbados.

    I would like you all ( especially Bush Tea ) to stop casting aspersions on the impeccable characters of our government ministers past and present.

    Just because most of them have been able to turn their modest salaries into millions does not mean they are corrupt. They are just investment geniuses like none other.

    They can turn 5 erolls and 2 grantleys into $5000 and since they can then buy the wine they don’t need water.

    The “Corruption Index” that you are referring to is a misnomer… it is actually the “Corruption Perceptions Index” reported by Transparency International https://www.transparency.org/news/feature/corruption_perceptions_index_2017.

    Barbados scores higher than you might expect simply because to many Bajans are what the estimable Bush Tea calls “Brass Bowls” who either have their heads buried in the sand or endorse the corruption because they frankly would do the same if they were in power. This causes the perception of corruption to be much lower than actual corruption.

    There is currently no Barbados chapter of Transparency International but this should be remedied quite soon.

    As we are currently seeing, corruption in the US of A is rampant. The whole world seems to be terribly corrupt. I pay no attention to these perceptions because we know from which perspective they are being viewed.

    If the modern histories were in reverse so too would this chart.

    For us these charts are specious, selectively determined and are at best representations of the pillage which the European countries, countries in the North Atlantic, have wrought on the countries of the South for centuries, as it continues to this day.

    We can’t understand why we would seek to accept all these raassssoul standards when we know they are so deeply flawed.

    And yes, in many countries agents of the exploiters have been left to live off our bones but there is no broad constituency in Barbados to get the rid of the queen of England. That is corruption, no?

    A queen who made her money from chattel slavery, that of course should not count.

    Nor that Elizabeth, maybe the largest drug baron in the world. Sorry, that is disrespectful but not corrupt.

    An American government that has been caught, many times, flooding Black neighborhoods with crack cocaine in furtherance of CIA projects.

    An American government which gives the world a useless piece of paper, or its electronic representation, which has lost 98% of its value over the last 100 years. Oh Lord, have mercy, Baje too love he Yankee dollar bills. Working for the Yankee dollar bill.

    A private FR, banks, which deploys this worthless piece of paper to control the whole world.

    When we travel to a capital we try to go to the leading museums. When one sees the hundreds of million of historical art objects which decorate several ‘museums’ in a single city, one is left to wonder if there could be anything left in the countries of the south, especially Africa.

    The truth is that White people want all South countries to remain powerless, divided. So that their resources would have to be industrialized as finished goods within their own home countries. Divide and rule. That is not corruption, is it?

    Corruption is only what White people say it is. And they could obvious not be so inclined. Never mind that these fuckers are the ones who taught their minions how to thief. And we could never be convinced that Bajan politicians really know how to thief, except Joy Edwards, maybe!

    As a lad I well recall hearing about the Duffus Commission and naively I actually thought those things got to the bottom of political corruption and people were eventually prosecuted … colour me stupid …what a LOLROF concept.

    Yet since then we have engaged in numerous commission style events and for some inescapable resaon it seems that we remain coloured stupid expecting some eureka moment of action.

    What a concept!

    The Bush sage cited several events and could have gone back further to HARP or the one I remain shocked about (under Barrow no less) the ‘ poodle left alone and the death of a salesman’.

    Did Duffus not tell us douffuses that ‘all roads lead to the PM’ or something like that and did that same PM of which he ‘spake’ also not say years later about we the douffuses that … “what is most unfortunate, you have contempt for yourself, because you allow them to do it”.

    So wait for Mia to end corruption in BIM…wait dey!

    I still waiting for salesman Mark Stokes to come back from his trip too and waiting for the solving of why a police officer had a shootout in Barbarees Hill and who kill Pele.

    I expect results on all a dem the day after any Bajan PM implement anti corruption legislation AND the DPP INDICT a senior former politician!

    It was just announced that the RBP task force had opened an investigation of PM Mottley on suspicion of fraternizing and workjng with major criiminal elements based on her non-legal close encounters to known drug lords and then her invitation to some of these same actors to her inauguration ceremony!

    …That’s fiction…

    … but what is NOT: the FBI is reported to have started an investigation of the POTUS shortly after inauguration on suspicion that he “was secretly working on behalf of Russia”. WTFreak!

    Yes we know Mueller is investigating collusion and all that but he was appointed from an “obstruction of justice claim”…the news that the FBI ACTUALLY started an investigation of a US Pres as an agent of a foreign power is earth shattering news….as my piece of Bajan fiction would have been.

    Russia has won their publicity and world media influence battle…undoubtedly…

    I remember as a kid hanging around the Police at District A this light skinned Police guy name Sergeant Callender going to court in the late 70s regarding the Pele murdered case…. several officer were involved in that case including one inspector of police whom were stationed at District during that time… all probably died by now …

Doctor Rat was actually vincentian whom police shot dead on a boat heading back to St. Vincent in the early 70 … he shot several officers including Jasper Watson … and i think he may have shot Tracksuit Top in the foot …I know Tracksuit Top was shot in the ankle because he showed me it one evening when he was washing his car at the old A District building just behind the Inspectors office by the hog plum tree …

    My instincts are on target……by 2022 the island will be in a further 9 billion dollar hole belonging to Mia…bringing the deficit to at least 22 billion, but she think she slick….if 9 billion DOLLARS of savings are FREEZED..or VOLUNTARILY delivered to Mia…by the BLIND a and DUMB….

    ….LATER WHEN THE DUST AND LIES ALL SETTLE…she won’t be owing any foreign LENDERS and the people will NOT be able to get back a dime OF THEIR SAVINGS…, because thee is NO RECOUSE against THE ROBBERY of public funds by government , remember ….and all the offshore accounts of the THIEVES WILL ONCE AGAIN BE INFLATED..

    I already WARNED family to only keep basic amounts in their Barbados accounts, nothing that can FATTEN THIEVES..

    @ dpD you bring back memories! Shortly before Mark Stokes’ last boat ride I was driving back to town after lunch and there was stopped traffic just before Accra, and when I pressed brakes, wuhloss, nothing there and I had no choice what with oncoming traffic and tourists on the 18” sidewalk, to slam into the car in front. I still remember Mark Stokes’ eyes real wide in his rear view mirror before he disappeared from sight as his seat collapsed! He had bad whiplash, but my insurance never had to pay out as he had an appointment with someone!
    The Pele case I remember well as my friend Johnny Bowen had to leave for the US for safety, since it was said he saw something, a policeman. I believe a policeman’s woman was involved too but that’s not unusual.
    Ah, same old, same old.
