What concerned me most during the run up to the election was the planned false reporting by the corporate media and some of the major internet sites. The election was always much closer than they were purposely misreporting, and only folks who had the opportunity to hear or read news from alternative sources that the election would be a dog fight and not a cake walk for Hillary – BU Commenter Bajan in NY

Against the the run of popular opinion Donald Trump was elected the 45th president of the United States of America. What is bodes for the world time will tell. What is reaffirms to the BU household is that the voice of the people is the voice of God.

On behalf of Barbados Underground (for what it is worth) we congratulate Donald Trump and hope he will be able to advance the cause of mankind as President of the United States.

You still don’t get it. What part of “absolute” do you not understand.Trump can tie up anyone in court until he takes office. Once inaugurated, he can pardon himself for anything. ANYTHING. No matter when it happened. The only exception is a conviction for impeachment.

  6. “What do you think about the debt that is owed to China by the USA?”

Another hoax perpetrated on the uninformed by the global corporate elite who controls the system. Who own the business activity in China which are responsible for China’s propulsion into one of the largest semi-capitalist societies in the world. It’s American business my lad. Remember Japan was once touted as this economic giant which is taking over from the USA. Do you think it fell by the wayside through circumstances? Millions of people from all nations live in America some of them even exceeding the populations in their indigenous countries. America my friend is the world and the tiny island of Great Britain is the world’s banking centre . If America fails all else does.

Both the Canadian PM and the Mexican foreign minister have already announced the willingness of their respective governments to re-negotiate NAFTA”

    Go Trump!.

You see what a little sabre rattling can do.
The tendency by Obama in his term to promote America as a good boy does not work in geopolitics. That is why Mr Putin has been able to garner the support of vulnerable nations who believes from his actions he is firm and can be relied on for support in times of aggression. Geopolitics is serious business and not for the naivety. I believe strongly that were Obama in office during the communist revolution in Grenada; the despot Coard would still in power and Grenadians would be in bondage with all other lilliputian islands like ours under threat. Obams might have had good intention but which would be more suitable to running a Boys scout movement.

  9. I think Charlie’s analysis misses a key point. For about 800 of the last 1000 years – until the rise of the industrial revolution – the Chinese economy dominated world trade. For over 200 year they have been humiliated by Europeans. It is China’s mission, across generations, to return to the top of the pile and they are doing this by stealth.
They are either doing it through soft power, the use of the cheque book to buy support from impoverished Caribbean islands, or through buying up cash-poor key businesses in nations such as the UK. They already call the shots in Asia.
The US$3trn China has lent to the US is what is keeping the US going. America is neck high in debt. It is a point that Trump capitalised on.
What Charlie is referencing is the battle between Wall Street and manufacturing US. To Wall Street, dividends are the most important thing, to manufacturing US jobs are the most important. You cannot export jobs and expect people to be happy.

A very insightful analysis Mr Austin but I refer you to another poignant and insightful analysis by Danny Gill posted in Nov2014 under the heading “Crowning the Dragon” and I quote

“China has been heralded as this enormous economic giant that shall swallow the west. But if Europe and the US do not buy her good and services where will China sell them. China’s other problem is its population; there remains a deep divide between the skills to be found in rural areas and the urban areas. Therefore a revamping of the economy can throw up the specter of structural unemployment. China is not ready for this world domination that has been bantered about for a while.Furthermore, she is tied to the US with the enormous amount of treasury bills she owns or has invested in.”

In short Hal at some point in time reality will kickin- Do not forget that except for Shanghai the American capital business in China and some areas of Bejing – China still remains physicaly backward in many respects especially in the vast rural communities where spirituality is most prominent and change shunned.

  12. Charlie,
What if? What if Europe and the US do not buy Chinese goods? But what if modern capitalism collapses?
Pre 2008 , Walmart was importing China-made televisions in to the West Coast, transporting them 3000 mile across the US and literally selling them for US$1 each. I am not a Nobel Laureate, but that says loss-making.
In other words, if consumers in Europe and North America want to live a middle class lifestyle on the cheap then they offshore manufacturing to China. The loss of jobs is the price they pay.
You get the same thing in the small economies. Leading up to the 2007 Cricket World Cup China built a new ground for Grenada. There were two problems with this: China had to produce the workers, most of whom came out of the prisons, and they had to be given citizenship on completion of the job. Is this the deal Barbados and Jamaica have done?
Remember too that nearly all these people are males and young. I can see trouble brewing.
In the years leading up to my retirement I wrote endlessly and spoke at public meetings about this. That there will be a price to pay for tolerating China.
Remember, China is no democracy, it is ruled by the central committee. But it has America by the short and curlies. America is still the most powerful nation in the world, but it is a declining power.
It is just a matter of time before Brazil challenges the US for regional influence.
In Asia, Duterte is even contemptuous of the US (ignoring the racism implicit in his attack on Obama).
    It is a complex world.

  13. “To response to the comment on Barbados Today regarding Trump lack of political experience”

American political history clearly shows that though political experience is an necessity in this complex and dangerous world, it is always that in important as the fella who commented on Barbados Today says Trump lacks or is in want of.

But one could argue quite convincingly that Greorge Washington had little or no political experience, but is regarded today as one of the greatest presidents in America.

And even more telling, President Harry Truman who hadn’t any college education and very little political experienced made one of the critical decision in human history when he dropped the atomic on Japan ending World War 2. And history regards Truman as one of the best presidents in the United States despite his lacked of education and affiliation with the KKK, and President George W Bush with more than enough political experienced, and his Ivy League schooling as the worse.

is totally uninformed. Trump’s supporters are not more “racist” than Hillary’s supporters.

Much of the US electorate has been disappointed with its political class for some time. After the Financial Crisis hit in 2008, they elected a black man with little experience in federal politics –an “outsider” who had opposed the Iraq war — to deliver change.

He was a weak leader and he botched the job. So now the voters have recruited a forceful, noisy political novice who says he won’t accept the bribes of lobbyists. Who says he will bring radical change. Shake up the system.

That is all. It is not about racism. It is about stopping unreasonable immigration and trade policies that are bleeding the country. It’s about securing the safety of Americans from jihadis.

@Sargeant November 10, 2016 at 10:32 PM re “It’s going to be a long four years.”….That it will, but the specter of matters already hanging around the Pres Elect strongly suggests that the words Pres Pence are not far-fetched.

So the four years can be turbulent in many ways…rational analysis suggests that Trump may not be there full term. We shall see.

@Chad, still offering your pardon piffle without facts. Your ability to research the topic is as good as anyone else here so best to leave this to folks who want to know because you are surely being absolutely ‘ignorant’ (displaying a horrendous lack of reasoned knowledge) on this subject.

You are correct that Trump could tie matters in court and then as you say ‘attempt’ to pardon himself.

But that a man of your obvious study and experience then pronounces that the US congress (full of furious democrats) would be unable or rather sit back and accept the President bringing the entire country into disrepute and a constitutional crisis as an ‘indicted’ felon pardoning himself.

That is funny…on the ground, roll around, pull my hair out, break down so!

If you want to argue that his second amendments boys and girls across rural and suburbia USA might surround the WH to defend the hoards of other people who would march to burn down the place and his despicable derriere then on that I would completely agree with you.

Because if he pardons himself for any indictable criminal offense the US would erupt…now if he gets called for another grab or something between now and inauguration who the hell cares…pardon away.

  28. @ Chad99999
Boss, if you keep this up there will have to be a review of the dictionary…with the “Stockholm syndrome” being replaced with the ‘Chad99999 syndrome’.
    Shiite man!!
You are more into this albino shiite than Lawson and Money B.

    Look…
    Life is complex.
There are much bigger issues than the financial clout enjoyed by a small percentage of the US population (which seems to be your yardstick for success).
The US electorate are just as dumb as its political class.

Obama was elected because, after George Bush, everyone, including the racist whites, felt a sense of gloom and doom. The economy was down, the wars were a mess, the infrastructure was crumbling and they were getting deeper and deeper into debt.
Electing a black man in such circumstances was not an exercise in ‘delivering change’ … it was more one of tagging a scapegoat. Admittedly, Obama is an idealistic joker who actually seem to think that the USA is a ‘great’ country that deserves ‘great’ things. Meanwhile the few, un-influential black voters hailed him as the embodiment of MLK’s great dream who would help them to realise their albino-centric dreams….. lotta shiite.

Even as democrats, republicans, and albino-centric blacks stabbed him repeatedly in the back, he continued to project this altruistic ‘goody-two-shoe’ attitude, as if the country was a great cohesive, productive entity.
Obama was not a weak leader. He is an exemplary leader – he was just trying to lead a nation of racist jackasses…. an exercise in frustration.

THAT was the anomaly. The USA did not deserve Obama… and they (you) see him as a failure in the same way that the Jews saw Jesus as a failure – in not freeing them from Roman rule.

What Obama did however, was to establish an image of leadership that is unparalleled in the modern world. He destroyed the myth of the hip-hop, illiterate, black, cunt …with nasty looking hair, drug-glazed eyes and with an animal-like family structure. The damn man is articulate, intelligent, charming, smooth, healthy-looking, bright, and funny.

Coming after decades of the USA having created a completely DIFFERENT black image across the whole world through their films, TV and other media, you would have to be VERY WISE to appreciate the impact of the Obama family on this critical perception…..or to catch the innuendo of it having been achieved through the highest office that they have.

Now, having completed that VITAL task, the process of self – destruction in the USA (and world) can resume with full steam.

  29. Hal Austin November 11, 2016 at 5:34 AM #

I am reading the same tea leaves as you.

What some people on this site fail to realise is exactly what you said that we live in a complex world and trying to untangle yourself from it is fraught with many dangers, some of which you highlighted with China and Brazil.

The other elephant in the room is the Jewish lobby in washington who will make it clear to him that he has to distance himself from Russia which is too close to Assad.

All of this boils down to him disappointing many of his supporters after his promisses cannot be met and that is where the backlash for him will come from, that vocal rabid minority with different agendas…..remember 46.7% of the electorate did not vote….The days of American supremacy are coming to an end.

    Bushie

While we understand what you are saying and generally would like to agree we will argue that your description is one sided, misguided.

    chad999999 is even more imprecise

You, Bushie, seem to present Obama as not too bad a fellow.

This is a man who deported 750K people with a smile on his face

A man who killed women and children in their beds with drone strikes, and you liken him unto your ‘Jesus’.

Obama, a man who fought the PNAC wars in seven countries for seven years, is that not apocryphal.

A man who killed a head of state, Khadafy, by the use of terrorists with his smart wars. And fought wars of aggression for regime change in countries he did not like and as told to him by the very neo-cons he pretended to oppose.

Obama dirty wars which have displaced millions of people and unleashed the innate racism of Europeans – Brexit and now an American Brexit as well.

This son of an ‘itch has the world the nearest it has been to nuclear war in several decades as he continues to employ terrorists to destroy the ME and to threaten China and Russia in order to maintain American hegemony.

This is the man who dared not to do anything for the Black population afraid of the ire of his White masters.

But yet, had the temerity to speak to Black people as some strict father. He never spoke that way to White people.

Obama is the historical figure who has institutionalized bulling as a social formation. And tried to impose it on poor countries. This SOB should never be forgiven for this crime and we are happy that any legacy he thinks he has could be removed from the political landscape.

We know that maybe the pending absence of Obama, incipient nostalgia, and the fear of a Trump , maybe guiding your writing.

However, we will argue that Trump will not have a smile on his face but he would have to work real hard to be as disastrous as Obama has been.

We can guarantee you that Trump will face the full force of the activist community. These are forces, especially the White liberal/progressive classes, which gave a smiling Obama a pass.

In toto, we see no particular differences between Obama and any other American president. He is just as cruel, just as ruthless, just as imperial, just as White as his predecessors.

As to strong leader we await the inauguration of Herr Trump who knows more than the Generals and who promises to bomb the hell out of ISIS and murder their families.

Trump also said he would drain the swamp in Washington didn’t he realise that Republicans are prominent bottom feeders in that swamp with names like Ed Meese surfacing as lobbyists to help the transition, it is the ghost of Republicans past.

  35. The markets would remain stable thanks in part to a smooth transition but do not hold your breath beliving that markets would remain stable after Trump holds the reigns of govt as uncertainty about his policies take centre stage most of which would be more growing concerns about trade agreements and agreements that bind america to climate change

  36. The reason why the 46.7% did not vote…..simply no one to vote for!!

  37. 40. @Vincent Haynes
Yup…..all above correct…….as I said his own democrats did not back him.
    +++++++
Actually (Skeete) has produced information in a vacuum without understanding the context. First, he uses the word “controlled” when he means that a Party was the majority Party.
In the case of the Senate he is out to left field as he hasn’t heard of filibuster which the Republicans used to good effect all through Obama’s Presidency. To overcome a filibuster a motion needs 60 votes and no Party could command that number of votes in the Senate. The Republicans seized on that provision when they were the minority Party and denied the Democrats the opportunity to vote on Presidential appointments or Bills. It got so horrendous that the then Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid triggered “the nuclear option” which allowed the Senate to dispense with precedent (really a gentleman’s agreement) and the Senate was able to approve all appointments except judicial ones with a simple majority. The Democrats had a “super majority” i.e. 60 votes in early 2010, at that time they used that brief period to thwart any filibuster and passed The Affordable Health Care Act-Obamacare. They actually had 57 members but Independent Senators Bernie Sanders and Joe Lieberman caucused with the Democrats and brought the number up to 59, then Arlen Spector defected from the Republicans and brought the magic number to 60.

The majority Party has the right to appoint Committee Chairs, schedule hearings, issue subpoenas and call witnesses but when it comes to voting on issues control is ephemeral, they have it in theory but exercising it is another kettle of fish.

The Democrats are the minority party in this Congress and they will have the opportunity to filibuster, if they exercise it “control’ doesn’t matter.

@Vincent Haynes at 8:18 AM # WHY???? re “The other elephant in the room is the Jewish lobby … will make it clear to … distance himself from Russia which is too close to Assad.” —– How does the Jewish lobby as compared to any other lobby have more to do with Russia and Assad??

Didn’t Barack Obama come into the WH in 2008 singing from the SAME ‘we need to work with Russia rhetoric’ as he attempted to do what angry Republicans called his ‘world appeasement tour’? Wasn’t Assad always considered a dangerous dictator back then?

Didn’t the US (or should I say inter-web) initiate ‘insurrection’ in the ME in an insane attempt (despite the Bush Iraq debacle) to bring democracy to that part of the world?

What’s different now except Trump’s irrational pivot to Russia based on their aggressive annexation and cyber meddling. And the obvious nexus between people on his staff and Russian power-brokers. Now, that smacks at minimum as consorting with a foreign power. Grounds for revocation of security clearance…at MINIMUM if accurate.

Trump will not ‘disappoint his many supporters” They know his promises are works in progress….long works in progress. Realistically, can a comprehensive wall be built in four years. Significant partial fencing surely. but that’s it.

Can manufacturing jobs or a return of major ‘clean-coal’ (whatever that means) mining return to the ‘rust belt’ in short shrift? That’s a good Bajan, steeeupse!

Can Donald Trump shoot someone on Fifth Ave, New York and still have a devout love affair with 47% of US citizens including evangelicals like Jimmy Falwell? Absolutely. That we give 100%!

The US is not a monarchy or dictatorship of one man. Governance is not about campaign promises as Mr. Pacha quite sagely noted…governance is about the image and aura of being there to set the agenda. That what’s Trump’s white-lash desired. They got it.

So let’s reset and build a strong resistance to the oppressive and crass force of ‘discrimination’ that many will now reestablish with a ‘vengeance’. That’s on the ground crucial.

The other stuff (abortion rights, supreme court, trade wars etc) though important will definitely be taken care of as well…and boldly so too.

  48. Checked your history the financial markets always go bullish during a Republican government read President and or supported by the House.

  49. “Give Trump a chance”
    +++++++
A chance to do what? To poison the well some more? The man didn’t employ a ‘dog whistle’ technique targeting minorities to lure some voters he used a megaphone and has essentially destroyed any hope of establishing trust with black folks, brown folks, or any others considered as minorities.

It doesn’t stop there we are hearing of reports of children in High schools taunting their peers of Mexican descent, children in middle school shouting “build that wall” to other minority kids and locker rooms (mainly NFL) divided along racial lines. it is making America great again but a ‘throw back” to the 1950’s. When school children who are supposed to be in the vanguard of an accepting society as in “all people are created equal” but believing that some are more equal than others the country is in serious trouble.

This is all fallout from the campaign but when you sow the wind you will reap a whirlwind.

If there was a caption for that photo op in the Oval Office yesterday it would be “The dumbing down of the Presidency”
