Trumps has grabbed the headlines across the globe although for the wrong reason. His disparaging exchange with Billy Bush -captured on a hot mike- and exposed by the US media about women is sure to derail his presidential campaign. What it does is to setup tomorrow’s second presidential debate to attract unprecedented viewership.

It also brings into question to what extent should the electorate hold political aspirants/candidates accountable for personal views. Secondly, how active should traditional media be in sharing the personal views of candidates to informed a mostly ‘ignorant’ electorate. Social media cannot be accused of suppressing information.

    We should not target Trump alone, the Republican Party must shoulder a significant % of the blame here. Same in Barbados, we need to hold political parties in Barbados accountable. They have a ‘fiduciary’ to to present quality candidates managed with objectives in the interest of the people they were elected to serve.

    It will be interesting to see how Trump’s incivility will affect his poll ratings. One can assume that his BU champions will still be loyal and supportive even after these statement.

    Trump’s stability in the polls can be attributed to the fact that he has kept to his main message of hate of other minorities. Those who have similar views feel comfortable under his tent and will stay there. Where else can they go?

    You are right, this problem is systemic.

    And not only the head is to be blamed but the whole system, party.

    The Republican Party could face losing its status as a national party and become regional.

    That is a fair price to pay for suborning wickedness for decades.

    In Barbados both parties must be deemed proscribed, illegal.

    More obviously, when we consider that Clinton is also a highly flawed candidate, that the system has produced two at the same time speaks to an even deeper cultural decay.

But the media loved the ratings so gave him tons of free air time not thinking that he had tapped into a deep hate of politicians and how govt is run by the public on both sides of the aisle. Missed in this coverage is what clinton thinks of bernie supporters and how she will say anything to be elected leaked by wiki , the media will now down play that. and try to hide it behind the news that trump is a pussy loving, people bullying asshole ….oh my god ..I did not know that….lets get real here …there is a ground swell of people that want change they are saddled with this guy as there figure head but the hate of trump should not negate the need for change. Hopefully he realizes if he leaves now Pence can win and stop the media and the status quo from ” dragging that hag over the finish line” A timely exit will allow him to defeat clinton, if he stays and loses it will compound the humiliation. His ego may not let him do it but if he really beleves this is a movement and not about him..he should go. Having said that if he has photos of clinton in the buff frolicking with the alleged pussy he may be able to still pull this one out.

    How can we divorce a politician’s personal view from that of their politics…realistically!!!! Now let me be clear; if a person disavows abortion but runs as a moderate Democrat and wins his mainly conservative riding would his constituents expect him to vote WITH his party’s politics on pro-women’s rights? I think not.

    Personal views will always affect and motivate the ‘ignorant’ electorate thus it’s best we know what our representative really thinks AND THEN decide to elect him/her (or not).

    Frankly, this s great political theater but anyone who waited on this to dismiss Trump as a credible presidential candidate is, in my view, simply mekking political sport.

    They are basically looking for cover: they always knew he was not suitable but supported him for strict political reasons, now they see a way to refute that support.

    Conversely on the other side those who truly supported him will stay strong.

    Trump is not a misogynist in the strict sense of the word, rather in Bajan parlance he is a ‘pussyist’. That is the colloquial way of saying he is a man who loves unreservedly what females offer, entreats them with much money and material things and by his callous philandering nature is very prone to objectify and insult their physique even as he ‘respects’ their excellent nurturing qualities.

    As one former aide said ‘we are not electing a Sunday School teacher’.

    And what does all that have to with being President. Not one damn thing…UNLESSS….of course you can’t be elected without the female vote. Then it’s can mean defeat.

    However let us remember. 1) John Kennedy was a ‘lovable’ scamp in the White House with his romps at selected locals…20-20 hind sight, of course. 2) Bill Clinton was a consummate womaniser and despite his scandalous behaviour he left the White House and became very popular with Democratic females. Go figure.

    Has anyone paid attention to the REAL disqualifying issues for this man? Did anyone read that the Russian Foreign Minister COMPLAINED to the UN about a speech which condemned Donald Trump.

    Let’s go again. RUSSIAN…COMPLAINED…CONDEMNATION….OF TRUMP!!!

    This is the same Russia which is bombing in Syria in defiance of their US agreements… The same country tagged as the hackers providing all the info on Clinton emails to compromise the US elections.

    The same Russia who had an insider as Trump campaign manager and were facilitated with the complete watering-down of the Repub convention message on Ukraine/Crimea.

    This is treason. This is serious. This is an amazing version of ‘Manchurian’ Trump

    For strictly edifying purposes can you share how exactly the Republicans would have gotten rid of Trump?

    I saw over 14 millions voters freely select this man from among a field of 17 candidates.

    I saw him boast that he would run as a third party candidate if he was disenfranchised as a Repub candidate.

    I saw his back-rise the threat to upend him with a convention floor vote.

    Basically at every juncture he out maneuvered the party. So how – barring some nasty legal battle – was it possible to get rid of Trump?

    Not trying over-think this morn, btw. Just a simple understanding.

    Not gonna happen Trump’s voters are Republican voters and if they jettison him a large number of down ticket congress persons will be affected. Many in the establishment section of the GOP including his fellow Republican Senators hate Cruz but his recent endorsement of Trump was part of a backroom deal for a Trump President to elevate him to the SC to replace Antonin Scalia as the intellectual voice of the right wing killing two birds with one stone getting Cruz away from his fellow lawmakers and maintaining a right wing hegemony on the SC. They don’t think Clarence Thomas could do that as he is seen as a cypher devoid of any legal rigour or intellectual heft. Cruz endorsed him despite Trump having insulted his wife and claiming that Trump’s father was a part of the conspiracy to assassinate Kennedy, Cruz famously didn’t endorse Trump at the Repub convention but Trump made him an offer he couldn’t refuse yah see politics makes some strange bedfellows

    Many on this blog today and others have stated that both candidates are fighting strong headwinds. Many have pointed to the system of democracy easily manipulated by super-packs etc.What Trump has said about women is wrong and we have to admit it. Many on here have labelled Clinton as ignorant for many indiscretions she has been fond wanting. Hell, Clinton has admitted she was wrong how she handled the email server issue. Tomorrow Trump will have a chance to nail her on it IF he gets a chance.

    I asked a very simple question based on your earlier assertion and you responded with more bland, unsubstantiated palaver.

    Your blog mate @Pacha did however provide a purposeful response in his brief remarks. He is absolutely accurate.

    At the end of the day Trump and the Clintons have become the same type of people.

    In those emails David alluded to above it is reported that Hilary said that her great wealth and lifestyle over the last many years has distanced her from her middle class roots and that she has ‘forgotten’ what it is to grow up humble in a one family home like that of her parents.

    An honest statement. But even in context it really does not speak of empathy, rather of entitlement.

    Trump comes from the same place. He obviously wants to be like ‘playboy’ Pres. Bill.

    What a gaudy spectacle it all is!!!

    The problem with that cigar episode for most politicians was two things there was an embargo on cuban cigars at the time and it was a cigarillo and not a gran corona
