Churchill_SocialismSocialism has its tentacles like a giant Mantel over the earth and we on the Isles of the Sea are not exempt! It is a slow process of Rot, while promising everything while delivering Poverty under the guise of Equality and Economic Justice, Divisiveness under the guise of Social Equality, Moral Decay as in Relativism as in no Moral Absolutes and where God Is Removed! Understand that the plan is to “CONTROL AND RULE BY WAY OF THE EXTRACTION OF THE PEOPLES WEALTH WHILE ENCROACHING ON THEIR FREEDOM THROUGH BURDENSOME REGULATIONS”.

“Socialists intentionally suppress creativity and innovation by discouraging individual God-given talent and encouraging dependency. In short, your failure is required for its success! At the root of socialist philosophy is the demand that you forfeit your faith and the dreams God birthed in you. Additionally, socialists would like you to believe that without coercion, individuals are incapable or unwilling to be generous to their neighbor with their own hard-earned money.

It’s just not true!

What is true, however, is thievery via over-taxation has never incentivized productivity. Free Enterprise (Capitalism) leads to Prosperity and Freedom while Socialism leads to Poverty and Bondage! Capitalism doesn’t come with a warranty or “money back” guarantee. Yet, it encourages individuality, creativity, opportunity, risk taking, ambition, pride, dignity, and a sense of accomplishment, promotion, and provision. Nonetheless, the lazy, stagnant, and ambitious are rewarded fairly and equitably. As much as Socialist professes their disdain for capitalism, they’ve yet to offer a better system. The reason is simple; it doesn’t exist”. “Peace and Security are better established through the means of economic liberty. It is only when a people are individually and economically free can a society establishing a self-respecting and self-governing citizen. A people who depend upon a government managing personal needs, personal benefits, and personal responsibilities are owned by the whole instead of being a society of self owned individuals. The law in a free society is only used for the protection of person and property—you cannot use the law as a tool for force and theft of property and labor, NO MATTER HOW GOOD THE INTENTION—this economic ideology of a “fair share” of another’s labor is the foundation for Fascism, Nazism, Socialism, and Communism. Using government to “help” individuals is NOT liberalism, it is at one level or another—only and ALWAYS collectivism.

Classical Liberalism SEPARATES government power from individual property, individual business, individual conscience, individual needs, individual labor, individual choices, individual responsibilities, and individual consequences which neither harm or obstruct another…collectivism MERGES society with government…. Collectivism represents the public ownership of human beings–the public ownership of health, actions, needs, pursuits, and responsibilities…” The Adversary plans to destroy Liberty and Freedom-Economic, Political, and Religious, and set in place thereof the greatest, most widespread, and complete Tyranny that has ever oppressed men. He is working under such perfect disguise that many do not recognize either him or his methods and he has been at it since the beginning of time using secret combinations. Names only change to suit the times, its an almost perfect disguise, the Adversary has been at it for Centuries. Communism, Marxism, Fascism, Socialism, Liberalism, Leftism = Stateism which seeks to take away Freedom, where a Few Elitist Benefit! These names are only different varieties of the same thing. It has the same outcome, IE, creating Elitist where certain people are favored and benefited. The means to accomplish this has always been Big Government that takes from everyone to create a system that the Elitist controls. This is in direct opposition to Free Enterprise that is not shackled by burdensome regulation. Socialism is against the natural of order of how we live and trade as a free people Life, Liberty, the Pursuit of Happiness and the protection of Property as was envisioned in the American Constitution! That is the natural order of God anything else is an Abrogation. Both Communism and Socialism is Stateism, which seeks Power and Control to take away Freedom, and benefits only the Elitist! We are steeped up to our Eyeballs in SOCIALISM, we are dwarfed by Big Government intervention upon our lives… most Countries are under its influence…how much more does it take for us not to recognize its ill effects upon the people.

How about our neighbors in Venezuela…That’s Full Blown Socialism in Action…How is that working out for them? How far away are we on this Island with the level of Taxation escalating with nothing stopping it in its tracks? Have you noticed?

Socialism has never worked, and will never work because it can never work. The reason that it can’t work is because it violates the laws of nature, what I refer to as the Simple Facts of Life.

    Simple Fact of Life #1:
People can almost always be counted on to act in their own personal self-interest.

Socialism requires that individuals subordinate their self-interest to the greater good. But people, being people, will always look for loopholes, outs, and advantages. The elite socialists are the ones who have found the loopholes, taken the outs, and secured the advantages. They prey on the masses just as much as do the capitalist robber-barons, the difference being that at least the capitalists end up producing some actual wealth, while the socialists only deplete it.

Socialism can only work if the laws of man can be made to overrule the laws of nature. Guess what? That ain’t gonna happen. Simple Fact of Life.

Where are Marx and Lenin when we need them?
By Paul Craig Roberts (Economist & Former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Ronald Reagan Administration)

Marx and Lenin were ahead of their time. Marx wrote before offshoring of jobs and the
financialization of the economy. Lenin presided over a communist revolution that jumped the gun by taking place in a country in which feudal elements still predominated over capitalism. In 21st century America capitalism has been unfettered from the regulations that democratized it and made it serve society. Today capitalism is being financialized with the consequence that its productive power is being drained into the service of debt.

When I was a young man, an individual with one million dollars was very rich. Anyone with a few millions more was considered richer than rich. Today there are people who have thousands of millions of dollars.

Few earned their billions by producing goods and services sold to consumers.

In the US billionaires result from bank lending for leveraged takeovers of companies. The takeovers produce riches for the takeover person from curtailing company pensions and using the company’s cash to pay off the takeover loan. Often the company and its employees are ruined, but the takeover artist walks away with massive amounts of money. Manipulation of initial public offerings are another source of riches as are securitized derivatives.

Classical economists, and Michael Hudson today, define these profits as “economic rents,” the income from which required no increase in real output to produce. In other words, these billionaire wealth gains are a form of parasitism based on exploitation and not on the production of real output. The gains result from draining income from production into the service of debt.

Today’s capitalist economies are far more dysfunctional than Marx supposed. For the past two decades Western economies have served no one but the very rich, and the exploited masses have submitted to their exploitation. The Western public may as well be slaves.

PC Roberts is also the author of:

The Failure of Laissez Faire Capitalism and Economic Dissolution of the West

Former Wall Street Journal editor, and Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury Paul Craig Roberts book is a major challenge both to economic theory and to media explanations of the ongoing 21st century economic crisis. The one percent have pulled off an economic and political revolution. By offshoring manufacturing and professional service jobs, US corporations destroyed the growth of consumer income, the basis of the US economy, leaving the bulk of the population mired in debt. Deregulation was used to concentrate income and wealth in fewer hands and financial firms in corporations “too big to fail,” removing financial corporations from market discipline and forcing taxpayers in the US and Europe to cover bankster losses. Environmental destruction has accelerated as economists refuse to count the exhaustion of nature’s resources as a cost and as corporations impose the cost of their activities on the environment and on third parties who do not share in the profits. This is the book to read for those who want to understand the mistakes that are bringing the West to its knees.

Neither socialism OR capitalism will work. They are both flawed systems that seek to bypass the true intent of successful living in our world.
So Churchill was right, …but so is Islandgal.

The right and correct political system for human beings should be one based on merit and fairness. Taking from the rich and giving to the poor / lazy is obviously counter-productive, however in a society of a majority lazy bums, …and where ‘lazy’ is glamorized as ‘luxury’, it is only obvious that the majority will like socialism, while in societies of majority selfish and self-centered people, the capitalist system will be popular.

Most Bajans will therefore like socialism – with the government fleecing the few productive ones to pander to the large numbers of brass bowls who vote… however Bushie likes the cooperative model which, while there is a collective self-interest and support for the weaker members, allows for, and encourages individual merit-based growth.

The wealthy SHOULD help those who are unable to help themselves (such as widows who loose their support, victims of circumstances etc) but those ‘lazy-assed bums’ who sit around playing dominoes on the blocks all day …and who then come in the Nation newspaper claiming that they ‘need housing’ and government jobs (otherwise known as salary for life without work) SHOULD be starving and broke… not given largesse….
By the sweat of his brow should a man eat….

I am not saying that the Inca Empire was a blueprint for the collectivists idea, but have you done any research on the Inca Empire, and how for centuries its entire system of governance had been erected upon the socialist ideals?

The intent of Socialism is correct BUT the way it is practiced is jaundiced by the corrupt Pols who are willing to use our $$$$$$$$$$$$ to BUY Votes from equally stupid and corrupt LazyAss Takers who have no intention of WORKING!

The current system is inefficient, ineffective and encourages wastefulness, laziness in the longer term.

Capitalism is by no means perfect. What is key is INCENTIVE so that hardworking and clever people can outperform and be encouraged.

It amuses me to see the decoupling of today’s capitalism with the two adjectives that usually accompany it ‘cannibalistic’ and ‘vulture’.

Like law, this area is not my forte and so I will depend on some poor soul to make the case against this rapacious scourge that is destroying some segment of the society.

But be warned, like Douglas Mc Arthur “I shall return” (so far the score is 1/2 for the famous guys who made that claim).

  12. MoneyBrain April 12, 2016 at 9:51 AM #

Capitalism is the unequal sharing of wealth,

Communism is the equal sharing of MISERY,

Socialism is the confiscation of hardworking people’s money via unnecessarily high taxes
to create DEPENDENCE among a broad swath of the populace
in order to buy votes for corrupt politicians.

Those looking for a big laugh can find one in Philip Kotler’s Huffington Post article entitled Fix Capitalism – Join Us!
Kotler says “The economic system is failing to deliver rising living standards for most Americans. Most of the gains from higher productivity are going to the rich. The middle class is getting smaller, the wages of the working class are lower in real terms than in the 1980s, and the really poor continue to constitute 15% of our citizens.”
On his website FixCaptalism.Com Kotler notes 14 shortcomings of capitalism but says “there may be more”.

    14 Alleged Shortcomings
Proposes little or no solution to persistent poverty
Generates a growing level of income inequality
Fails to pay a living wage to billions of workers
Not enough human jobs in the face of growing automation
Doesn’t charge businesses with the full social costs of their activities
Exploits the environment and natural resources in the absence of regulation
Creates business cycles and economic instability
Emphasizes individualism and self-interest at the expense of community and the commons
Encourages high consumer debt and leads to a growing financially-driven rather than producer-driven economy
Lets politicians and business interests collaborate to subvert the economic interests of the majority of citizens
Favors short-run profit planning over long-run investment planning
Should have regulations regarding product quality, safety, truth in advertising, and anti-competitive behavior
Tends to focus narrowly on GDP growth
Needs to bring social values, well being and happiness into the market equation.
Kotler’s list is so preposterous, I hardly know where to start. So let’s just go down the list one by one.

    Mish 14 Point Rebuttal
It is capitalism that is responsible for improved standards of living over the decades.
The Fed and government bureaucrats, not capitalism is behind growing income inequality. That said, some degree of inequality is not only a good thing but a very necessary thing. People need to be rewarded for bringing new ideas to the market. Successful new ideas raise the standards of living of everyone, and income inequality creates the very incentive to market new ideas.
The inflationary policies of central bank planners is the primary reason people do not make a “living wage”.
Throughout history people feared automation. Yet every technological advance created new jobs. One reason for the acceleration of job losses now are the very “living wage” proposals espoused by those like Kotler that price humans out of jobs.
It’s not the role of businesses, nor should it be, to be concerned with undefinable “social costs”.
It’s not capitalism that fails to charge businesses for pollution costs, but rather governments.
It is beyond idiotic to propose capitalism causes economic instability. It is governments and central banks that cause economic instability.
With his concern about “community commons”, one can easily see Kotler is a dyed-in-the-wool socialist. The problem with socialism is, it does not work and never will.
Capitalism does not encourage high consumer debt. The Fed and central banks do, in the inane belief debt drives the economy.
Capitalism does not let “politicians and business interests collaborate to subvert the economic interests of the majority of citizens”. Rather corrupt politicians willing to do anything to get reelected are the problem.
Capitalism does not favor short-run profit planning, but tax laws might.
In point 12, Kotler argues in favor of “anti-competition”. Competition is the very essence of improved products and rising standards of living.
Capitalism does not focus on GDP at all. Misguided economists, politicians, and central banks do.
Pray tell, whose “social values” do we need to consider? Mine? Yours, ISIS? Kotler’s? Personally, I do not want some jackass or set of government jackasses, deciding what is socially right or wrong.

    Save Us from Socialists!
Philip Kotler is the S.C. Johnson & Son Distinguished Professor of International Marketing at the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management in Chicago.
Having completed my 14 point rebuttal, it is pretty clear Kotler has no idea what capitalism really is or the advances it has created. He attributes problems to capitalism that are in reality caused by central banks and government bureaucrats.
Kotler wants to “save capitalism from itself.”
The irony is capitalism does indeed need to be saved, not from itself, but from economically illiterate socialists like Kotler.
Rather than fixing capitalism, I suggest we actually try capitalism in lieu of Fed foolishness, government foolishness, and socialist foolishness.

Do you understand what happens to a people who are exposed to smallpox, influenza, hepatitis, measles, encephalitis, viral pneumonia, tuberculosis, diphtheria, cholera, typhus, scarlet fever, and bacterial meningitis for the first time?

“These diseases shipped across the Atlantic from Europe consumed the indigenous populations of the Americas with stunning rapacity…killing three quarters or more of the indigenous peoples of North, South and Central America and the Caribbean…in the annals of human history there is no comparable demographic catastrophe.” 1493: Uncovering the New World Columbus Created / Charles C. It is hard for a population to recover from such a demographic disaster…and in addition the Europeans brought swords and a ferocious willingness to kill…15th century ISIS’ they were.

And when the indigenous people were almost all dead then came hundreds of years of the enslavement, forced labour, and deaths of hundreds of millions of African people.

True but it was NOT purposeful as the Europeans had absolutely no clue what was happening in this respect.

Swords were a different matter BUT you can be assured that Africans would have behaved the same way had they conquered the Americas. Africans travelled all over the coasts of Europe, especially the Med, as far North as Iceland, raping, killing and taking White slaves mainly women and children.

The Barbary pirates, sometimes called Barbary corsairs, were pirates and privateers who operated from North Africa, based primarily in the ports of Salé, Rabat, Algiers, Tunis, and Tripoli. This area was known in Europe as the Barbary Coast, a term derived from the name of its Berber inhabitants.

They have come to be known as the white slaves of Barbary. … Captured victims arrive on the Barbary coast to be sold as slaves. … While the Barbary slave trade is typically portrayed as Muslim corsairs capturing white Christian victims, this is far too simplistic.

In the 16th – 18th century, Africans enslaved 1.5 million White Europeans in the Barbary Slave Trade. African Muslims raided up the coastlines of Europe, …

Whiteys should complain bout this too!!!!!!!!!!

The problem is HUMANS behaving badly! HUMANS!!!

I find the anomaly, that Kotler, whose academic training was economics, spent a lifetime lecturing and consulting in marketing. And writing what were essentially textbooks. His affront on capitalism wasn’t published until he was in his 80’s.
Many of his earlier opinions were definitely pro capitalism. Some of his quotes include
*Your company does not belong in any market where it can’t be the best
*Urging protectionism to save your business is a sure way to lose it
*All customers are important but some are more important than others
*Marketing thinking is shifting from trying to maximize the company’s profit from each transaction to maximize the long-run profit from each relationship.

Terms like best, maximize profit, anti protectionism are not exactly drawn from a socialistic mindset.

I think as some people age, they tend to move from right to left, especially if they are secure financially. It is an acceptance they were unable to achieve what they set out to achieve. Not an apology

  21. MoneyBrain April 12, 2016 at 2:04 PM #

Kotler is a victim of living in a hotbed of Socialism—-University!

In the UNI World you can make all types of assumptions that bare absolutely no resemblance to reality whatsoever.
In Finance itself a major assumption is that investors are rational—what bigger joke is there???? Market prices are almost NEVER rational, either overly pessimistic or overly optimistic, it is mass human psychology. How else can we explain how the Dotcom Stocks went to ridiculous valuations before going to zero! The actual financial info flow was much the same throughout—over optimistic hype!

My experience is that young lefties have a tendency to mature into more conservative oldies.
Young people tend to be idealistic and willing to believe that the tenets of Socialism are practical–we are all equal. Nonsense , we are equal in the sight of God and the Law BUT the fact is that some are gifted in some way eg Steve Jobs, great artists/ scientists/ geniuses etc

How can someone with an IQ170 be equal to someone with IQ100??? He maybe a better Sportsman or in some other avenue but not in Intelligence. Our major task is to discover where we have a major gift or advantage.

I believe in an Incentive economic base with a very Disciplined social safety net that is efficient, effective, disciplined—LazyAsses and Abusers will be dealt with harshly! (after being given the opportunity to improve themselves)

@MB, my brief midday commentary….why there difficult to reconcile ‘scorecard’ debates about which we (people generally) are so keen. Can it not also be perfectly ACCURATE that Kotler’s comments are true ….at the SAME time that they overstate capitalism ills.

It must be evident to any reasonable person that neither full bore capitalism nor deep rooted socialism can float all vessels successfully in a country’s economic waters…

—- You said “It is capitalism that is responsible for improved standards of living over the decades”.—— That is correct and just as surely carries with it the negatives you quoted: “Generates a growing level of income inequality… Fails to pay a living wage to billions of workers”.

Perfect example WalMart. The largest retail operation in the world employing over 1 million people. Awesome example of entrepreneurial energy. Moved forward from a great idea. Hard work and great team work from his original employees led to them becaming very wealthy millionaires when the company went public. Excellent capitalism.

Yet, this same company which is a darling of investors (like Warren Buffet for example) because of their continued high earnings, buoyant stock price and dividend gains over the years also does not pay some workers a ‘living wage’.

The cashiers, janitors, store merchandisers and other lowly wage earners some who have been at the company for many years and work 40 hours a week yet have to seek additional assistance from gov’t programs because of paltry earnings… the CEO and top executives earn more in an HOUR than their median ANNUAL wages/salary.

That’s the simple dichotomy of capitalism. No long discussion. Just a simple fact.

No one is saying that the bottom rung of workers must be paid like executives but certainly a system is in distress when a large, successful enterprise is torn to shreds by investors when they shave a few points off their profits to improve employee wages….

And each of the points can be analysed in that way.

The bottom line is that there is a real problem!

I certainly think that many Execs are overpaid, it is hard to justify paying a CEO 500 times the average worker.

The Govt should be working towards encouraging Jobs growth through their policies. Where the environment is right then incomes will improve because there will be competition for jobs. The problem in the US is caused by permitting China et al to join the WTO (World Trade Org) without loads of conditions eg patent protection, currency manipulation, environmental / labour standards etc. Naturally Corps want cheap goods from Asia to resell at big profit, but what are the consequences. Any Govt has to care for the majority of its citizens first, foremost and only. What US goods do the Chinese allow into China. (what about Japan etc????)

We live in an Oversupplied World, both products and labour, and therefore workers in the US receive lower pay as there are too many unemployed job seekers. The pressure is also on many Corps via lower prices. Thousands of retail store locations are being closed down. The pluses of the Internet lead to negatives for retail stores. Creative destruction? Capitalism has its flaws!

Incentive based economies work, if not so, then people in Nth Korea would be better off than those in Sth Korea. Afterall the Commies had to change as they were just too poor in China/ Russia etc. Europe has been far too inefficient in their practice of Socialism so Europe is failing miserably.

As the Tour Guide on my visit to China said, “we had to change a system where I worked hard but made the same pay as the lazy guy at the next desk.” INCENTIVE!

Please note I focus on Incentive based. People have to feel they will be rewarded for improvement/ positive results. The Commie idea that Drs should make the same as the guy packing shelves at the market is a joke!

How would you classify the Barbadian society of the first half of the 20th century where there were at least three elementary schools in every parish, where each parish had a highly qualified medical doctor, where they were district hospitals which tripled up as children homes and homes for destitute old persons ? Where the doctors visited the poor at home at all times of the night? Where secondary education was heavily subsidized from the public purse etc etc. Was this not capitalism with a social conscience?

Do you recall the stand pipes and the public baths? Yes let us stop taking up issues that have very little reference to our particular experience. Our time will be better spent hammering out a future path for our society and economy.A path that is built on pragmatism. That process worked well for us in the past. We had a system that was more progressive than any in the Caribbean without jumping on either the capitalist or Marxist bandwagons. It was in a sense homegrown. Barbadians do not follow . We lead. That is the essence of the authentic Barbadian. Let bus get back to it. Please.

Giving $$$$$ to LazyAsses RUINS people too! It conditions people to believe life is easy, it is not! Their UNMITIGATED GREED as LAZYASS TAKERS, $$$VAMPIRES sucking the life out of society.

How come people who WIN the Lottery or are born into Rich families have a much higher propensity to be addicts, die prematurely, become depressed etc

Fact is the vast majority of people in Commie countries like Russia, Cuba and China were very unhappy 30 yrs ago. How come when Cuba started to rent land for agriculture on a profit basis PRODUCTIVITY went through the ROOF? INCENTIVE must be the base.

The major problem with all systems is Humans behaving badly. Greed or Laziness, both are negatives if taken too far.

Why have the Commie China, Russia and very Socialist India had to change to “Capitalist Destruction” while more Capitalistic Nations have a very much higher standard of living and have NOT had to change to a Communist philosophy. Why did those Commies have to LOCK their people IN if life was so sweet? How come there was so much FREEDOM in the US? How come so many Cbeans/ Bajans/ Africans/ Mexicans migrate to the terrible Capitalist US with such greedy, tyrant whiteys in control? How many such people migrated to Cuba, Russia, Nth Korea?

Please note, I dont condone the overly greedy 1 % types and would gladly CRUSH Wall Streeters who conduct corrupt and what should be illegal tactics with the COMPLICITY of very corrupt, paid Politicians at the National level (State/ local too).

Strange how Hilary will receive loads of Votes from the very people who are being clobbered!

an economic and political system in which a country’s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state.

Which set of CrookedAss Pols have proved that they should be in “control” of any country’s trade and industry? Bastards would sell out to crooks who pay them!(including crooks from foreign climes). Everything the Pols put their hands on leads to wastefulness. Most of dem could not run a snowcone cart in the Bus Stand on a very hot day.

  38. Bernard Codrington. April 12, 2016 at 7:48 PM #

We must take the current international economic system as a given. Our task is not to change it but to understand it and study how it is evolving. On the basis of this understanding we must formulate strategies and policies to counteract these or to minimize their negative impacts on our society and our economy. We must be in constant search for economic opportunities to better the condition of all our citizens. If we do not search we will not find. This is entrepreneurship not the simplistic approach of each one setting up a small business and working for himself. An authentic entrepreneur opens a business to find work for himself and at least twenty other Barbadians. Not all of us have the inclination or ability to lead and to manage. Nor do we all have brains to see the next big economic opportunity.

Hence why we must unleash those who have such ability to lead the Job growth plan. These types should be respected as it is not easy being an entrepreneur. Everyone wants a cut of the bread like in lil Red Hen, but many dont want de work first!

As I hope most of us know, socialism comes in many versions. And capitalism has failed more than it has succeeded.

Wealthy democratic socialist states: Norway, Sweden, Denmark
    Poor democratic socialist states: India
Rapid-growth Marxist states: The Soviet Union (1925-1965), China (1948-2014)
Slow-growth Marxist states: Cuba, North Korea
Failed capitalist states: Most of subSaharan Africa, Latin America and SE Asia.

    Great link.
It demonstrates what lazy and shoddy journalism is all about. Cutting, pasting and picture editing to help the story. The article goes on to say that even Venezuelans have fallen into the habit of using the picture.

“In the original high resolution version, the English signs and labels are clearly discernable, including a large poster in the background that reads, “Save 10 cents, 20 cents, 30 cents, or more per gallon.”

Nonetheless, in the course of its massive dissemination, the photo was adulterated to a point that the background signs are pixelated and consequently illegible.

The manipulated image has been so frequently associated with Venezuela that it appears among the first three results of a Google search for “scarcity Venezuela” in Spanish.”

Let me add that things are rough in Venezuela, so it should have been easy to get a picture of Venzuelan foodshortages from a shop in Venezuela

MoneyBrain does not understand the difference between the Soviet Union (1925-1965) and Russia today. Incidentally, Russia today is another failed capitalist state which has a lower AVERAGE standard of living than Russia under Marxist rule.
China’s economic growth rates under Mao in the 1950s to the 1970s were at least as impressive as they have been under Marxist “reformers” since the 1980s. You didn’t hear about it because the West was not participating in the growth story under Mao.

  50. Bush Tea April 13, 2016 at 8:26 AM #

Money Brain does not even understand the definition of ‘success’….and this is THE fundamental requirement for any meaningful discourse on this moot.

    What does success mean?
    What does it look like?
Money B thinks that it is reflected in a bank account, big house, luxury vehicles and a fairly peaceful environment…… in which case, Froon is a raving success …as are Stinkliar, Putin and large numbers of Latin Americans from Chile to Peru….and most lawyers in Barbados.

What if there is MUCH MORE required to qualify as ‘successful’?
What if materialism is just a passing ‘means of physical survival’ en route to that more meaningful goal?
What if a successful life entailed MORAL /SPIRITUAL and CHARACTER development?

Well then that would put a completely different spin on the debate surely….

    @ Simple Simeon
Do you even understand the need for definitions…?

  51. MoneyBrain April 13, 2016 at 9:01 AM #

U dont know me at all!

Compared to most Bajans I am not materialistic in the slightest. Skippa I have shirts I wear in the house that are 20yrs old! The formal shorts I go out in when in Bim are 10 yrs old! My children have excellent values are highly educated, dont drink alcohol excessively, dont take drugs, have good careers, dont whore around, concerned about the stupidity of Pols, giveback to the Community etc.

Bushie, the people want a certain minimum standard of living. In Sth Am historically there have been large amounts of people who go to Church 2-3 times per week and were / are encouraged to have large families they can not afford, so they are very unhappy and many hungry. Going too far in any direction leads to problems.

  52. Bush Tea April 13, 2016 at 9:52 AM #

It is obvious to all here that you are definitely a ‘good’ person at heart. You do not heed to make any case..
But that is NOT the point.

Let us say it turns out that the aim of life was to become a top international cricketer….and that we are all born with the basic tools needed to do so, namely hands, feet, eyes etc.
You may be one of those persons who like football, which can be played with the same tools provided. You may be good at it and indeed, football may become the most played sport on earth.
Some fellows may develop their tools to high levels of efficiency – by weightlifting, special diets etc..

But boss, in the final analysis, how do you think life success will be judged?
    CRICKET prowess…. nothing else….
Not that there was anything wrong with football, but it does not answer the question asked…
    So …Zero score!

  57. Vincent Haynes April 16, 2016 at 4:41 AM #

    MoneyBrain April 15, 2016 at 11:49 AM #

Albinism in humans (from the Latin albus, “white”; see extended etymology, also called achromia, achromasia, or achromatosis) is a congenital disorder characterized by the complete or partial absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes due to absence or defect of tyrosinase, a copper-containing enzyme involved in the production of melanin. It is the opposite of melanism. Unlike humans, other animals have multiple pigments and for these, albinism is considered to be a hereditary condition characterised by the absence of melanin in particular, in the eyes, skin, hair, scales, feathers or cuticle.[1]

Albinism results from inheritance of recessive gene alleles and is known to affect all vertebrates, including humans. While an organism with complete absence of melanin is called an albino (UK /ælˈbiːnoʊ/,[2] or US /ælˈbaɪnoʊ/)[3] an organism with only a diminished amount of melanin is described as leucistic or albinoid.[4]

Albinism is associated with a number of vision defects, such as photophobia, nystagmus and amblyopia. Lack of skin pigmentation makes for more susceptibility to sunburn and skin cancers. In rare cases such as Chédiak–Higashi syndrome, albinism may be associated with deficiencies in the transportation of melanin granules. This also affects essential granules present in immune cells leading to increased susceptibility to infection.[5]

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………we now have the wikipedia version of Albino

The above proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that some of us lack comprehension skills…..I will accept your post MB as tongue in cheek directed at Mr Clueless,as you are aware that like africans also a small number of europeans/chinese/indians/mongolians,etc,etc can also suffer from the disorder.

BT….it is an insult to all Albinos to liken them to corrupt individuals who do posses pigment.

  58. MoneyBrain April 16, 2016 at 8:43 AM #

U know I was just playing wid Bushie and reminding all and sundry of the crazy behaviour of some Africans.
Just pointing out that the problem is primarily BAD Humans afterall there are hundreds of millions of Whiteys in Eastern Europe that have had very limited interaction with darker people, most probably still have not met anyone of African descent. So how can it make sense to include those Whiteys as oppressors?

…all I want you to do is to stop insulting Albinos, they have enough of a load to bear without some jackass calling them corrupt.
But you have no problem with Bushie insulting Bajan Brass Bowls and calling them lazy and mendicant?
…you have no problem with Bushie insulting politicians and calling them crooked bribe-takers?
You have no problem with Bushie insulting the Church and calling them lukewarm and irrelevant….
…but keep the whacker off your albinos…?
    It THAT it…?

Boss, Bushie is an equal opportunity insulter. Whether it is a Cawmere idiot, a Bajan Brass Bowl, a Canadian Cahill tycoon, or Froon himself….
Besides, your English again shows…. Bushie did (does) not call albinos CORRUPT.
The term ‘albino-centric’ speaks to a natural propensity to prosper materially….and to live for that end….
…something with which certain other melanin classified humans are certainly NOT blessed.

MoneyB and Lawson consistently display a level of wisdom with regard to money that constantly goes above heads such as yours…

The POINT Bushie is making …is that life is about MUCH more than money…..
