Making Barbados Great Again: Self Governance Means Self-Reliance
Submitted by June Naime

June Naime
The Spirit of Independence means to me that ‘each individual have been given talents and abilities and should strive to magnify those gifts in appreciation of having received them’. The more we do so our awareness becomes sharpened and embellished as we excel unto perfection in our own unique way. This is the true Spirit of Individuality and Independence!
A good example of the Spirit of Independence and Self-Reliance is a Barbadian gentleman named Mr. Paul Bynoe the Managing Director of B‘s Recycling Barbados. Barbados #1 Recycler B‘s Recycling promotes a cleaner environment, B‘s Recycling Barbados.
A very good friend once taught me, “Humility is Our Friend”. Mr. Paul Bynoe certainly appreciates his humble beginnings, and with persistence and hard work he has forged ahead helping himself and others to be Self-governing. Through his Determinations and Struggles, Barbados is well ahead and a leading example thanks to the vision of Mr. Bynoe who cares not only about the environment but encourage others as well to be conscious of their surroundings. Mr. Bynoe is aware of the importance of raising individuals to higher standards as exemplified by his work ethics and his encouragement of those who work for him. And he is only one example. Nobody handed him his fortune on a silver platter and from what I understood it was by ‘the Sweat of his brow that brought him his Increase’.
What is happening with Barbadians is because of fewer Opportunities that stems from the Fact of Government Overreach? Big Governments are always very inefficient and because of pandering to the people and corruption we are in the position now where 2/3’s of Government revenue is paid to Service Debt. Imagine 2/3’s. The Nursery Rhyme comes to mind, where the little boy down the lane, meaning us” only receive 1/3”s of our increase. The rest is through legalized extractions of the peoples labour. Lots of people believe they’ll be getting free stuff. However a few people actually ARE getting free stuff, at the expense of others. Do you understand what happens when a nation defaults on its loans? Never has a society prospered from taking from someone else by force via uncontrolled Taxation. Society always prospers when the Entrepreneurial Spirit of each individual creates wealth. Collectivism, on the other hand is a scourge on humanity while Individualism is a boon to all humanity. We should always promote individual responsibility, virtue and respect for others and to beware of Envy (It breeds all manner of discontent).
5 Truths You Cannot Disagree With:
- You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
- What another person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
- The Government cannot give anybody anything that the Government does not first Take from somebody else.
- You cannot Multiply Wealth by Dividing it.
- When half of the people Do Not Have To Work because the other half is Going To Take Care Of Them; and the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what he worked for, That is The Beginning and The End of A Nation.
A Casual Observation…
We have a drought of money in Barbados because of over- reaching Government through high taxation and endless bureaucratic regulations on the people. The result is that businesses are drying up and struggling to meet Payroll. Presently in Barbados we have a drought from the lack of rain fall and many are still experiencing water Shortages Island wide!
We also have a drought Of Leadership and to quote a famous Labour Union citation from the Scriptures, “Where There Is No Vision The People Perish”. In Ancient Days as is recorded in Holy Writ, people turning away from God caused these catastrophes. Do you think God is speaking and we are not listening?
Venezuela what you are experiencing is because of a Socialist Government Rooted in Communism (A Godless Conspiracy) who has now declared a State of Emergency in the Country to complete the Plunder of its people without their Consent! “Now What Liberty Can There Be Where Property Is Taken Away Without Consent”. –Samuel Adams 1772.
Socialism Is Socialism. There are different Degrees of Socialism, but it is All Socialism with guaranteed results of failure. People Voting-in this System of Governance is wilful suicide. Socialism is when you are forced to take money from yourself and give it to a Bureaucracy who promises to give you back a little if ya lucky! However I do not believe in Luck, I believe in making Correct Choices and allowing the consequences to follow!
We must be able to have a System of Governance that allows Free Market Enterprise without all the burdensome regulations and heavy taxation’s.
“Free-market Capitalism is a network of free and voluntary exchanges in which producers work, produce, and exchange their products for the products of others through prices voluntarily arrived at….
Man has rights because they are natural rights. They are grounded in the nature of man: the individual’s capacity for conscious choice, the necessity for him to use his mind and energy to adopt goals and values, to find out about the world, to pursue his ends in order to survive and prosper, his capacity and need to communicate and interact with other human beings and to participate in the division of labor”…
The lifestyles of Barbadians have improved tremendously in the past years. The big picture is not reparations due because of our forefathers were denied an inheritance; it is Opportunities we should seek. I should know, as both sides of my Ancestors were Slaves. I speak as half Barbadian and half Arab “sand negro”. I can relate in both instances, of a great heritage my husband John and I both share.
I was Born in Barbados in the parish of St. John, and lived in Messiah street as a child. My mother was a Reid of Barbadian Irish Ancestry who married Isaac Abraham from Syria. The spirit of Tyranny oppressed both sides of my Ancestry. One side fleeing an oppressive regime leaving the Middle East, while the other side travelled on Slave Ships bound for Barbados.
My husband John was born in Trinidad of Syrian decent. His parents immigrated to Barbados when he was seven years old. Both our families fled Syria as Christians many years ago under similar circumstance as to what we are witnessing now. In the late 1800’s the Ottoman Empire, controlled the Region, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, were not separate as they are now. Our fore fathers land and valuables were stolen and they were made Serfs because they were Christians.
When the Ottoman Empire started to break down, many fled to The Americas in hopes of Freedom and a better way of life. My Father and my husband’s family were the latter generation who were left of this mass migration which started back then. They worked very hard and overcame many barriers including language, culture, reading skills & education while adapting to their new environment, often in rural and inhabited territories. The Inheritance our forefathers received were the Values and Morals that instilled in them the fortitude to overcome at all odds what ever challenges their circumstances presented.
Both John and myself were not born with silver spoons in our mouths. John worked and provided for his family giving me the opportunity to be a stay at home Mom while providing me the chance to develop many skills and talents, to which those that know me can attest. People often say that they are ‘self taught’, I prefer to say ‘God Inspired“ as Steve Jobs attest too, “listening to ones inner voice, and having the courage to follow your own heart and intuition”. Steve Jobs was half Syrian also.
“Your time is limited; so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary”. Steve Jobs
My Husband John was responsible in part for the Legacy of Chefette. He and his brother had a Restaurant back in the day called Cococabana in Fonatbelle and Roti’s was the signature item on the menu. Cococabana would be remembered by the older generation that morphed into Chefette in 1972. John would bring Roti’s from Cococabana to school for me and my classmates. I was seventeen and in attendance when the first Chefette opened 1972. The New generation does not know the origins of Chefette. I know because I was there Oh How History Needs To Be Re-told Least We Forget Our Origins! John helped to build the Company for 31 years, however that is another story yet to be told!
Challenges make Champions was a virtue that we taught our Son Nathan from young. Because of unforeseen circumstances our lives were challenged when John was in his 50’s and as a result we had to start over with very little.
As a result Big John’s was born and was also known for taking Roti to a whole different Dimension of Flavor, Size and Quality, including making their own Dal Pouri Roti Skins. I know because I assisted John in developing and perfecting the Recipes. Because of lack of finance to support the business during a tanking economy and because of outside forces working against us, caused the closer of this unique brand in the quick service industry with tremendous potential of healthier alternatives including more grilling and less frying.
After two years of closure, Nathan said to his Dad, who he calls BIG JOHN, “let us open a Bar & Grill”, which he had desired for some time. Nathan created a whole new concept to Chefette and Big John’s with our assistance. Yet another entirely new concept to what we had previously, now it would be a casual sit-down service concept, rich in hospitality including great food and drinks with generous portions at reasonable prices.
The moral of that story is, although others through their influence and money may take away your livelihood, no one can take away the substance and experience gained of a man. He is what he is and his knowledge can never be taken away. That is why it is so important to build strength of character and to learn as much as we can in this life on all levels possible, because when we depart this life, all material possessions we leave behind and we stand naked before God in the nature of who we have become, whether Good or Evil!
God created each individual uniquely different with gifts and talents to develop according to their desires. We are all given talents according to the law of the harvest or the parable of the Talents. We are each to use our own initiative to grow those gifts given to us. If you remember the person that was given only one in the story, buried theirs and had no increase. That which they had and did not use was taken away and given to another that used their talents.
Failure does not mean that you are a looser; it means getting up and taking your best shot once again with the opportunity to learn by your mistakes. By having learned life valuable lessons gives one with the incentive to do better next time round. In life we can be beaten down or take the opportunity to rise in spite of our challenges.
“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed”. Michael Jordan.
What about the poor, the disabled, and… – The Objective Standard …
How do they fare under laissez-faire? … With this in mind, let us consider the position of the poor, the disabled, and the helpless in a truly capitalist system. What about the poor, the disabled, and the helpless? How do they fare under laissez-faire?
To answer this question, we must bear in mind that very few people are genuinely helpless or unable to support themselves; the great majority of people are capable of acting as their life requires. And if a person chooses to live and is capable of supporting himself, he has a moral responsibility to do so; if he refuses to support himself and, instead, steals, begs, or seeks handouts, he is acting parasitically and immorally.
With this in mind, let us consider the position of the poor, the disabled, and the helpless in a truly capitalist system. But we must take them one at a time, for they are not necessarily one and the same.
As to the poor: Free Enterprise (Capitalism) leaves each individual free to think, work, and make as much money as he is willing and able to earn. No other social system on earth does this. In a capitalist society, if a poor person wants to work his way out of poverty—as countless poor people have done—he is fully free to do so. Of course, if he doesn’t want to, he doesn’t have to; the choice is his to make, and no one can force him one way or the other….
We can all make a difference in making Barbados Great Again, starting with the importance of Individual Responsibility and using our God Given Talents and Abilities To Improve Our Lot!

watch out Adrian there is a pretender to the throne

‘Individuality and Independence?…….show one ‘successful’ person who did it ALL on their own.
Maybe if bajans stop eating that gout-inducing, artery-blocking, toxic junk served up by chef-fete and get back to eating directly from the earth and the sun, they’ll be able to think clearly and realise their minds have been trapped in a spiritual stupor and free themselves. The poor steals just like the rich…..difference is the rich gets away with it.
Please don’t use Venezuela as an example of ‘socialism-gone-wrong’ because Venezuela under the helm of Hugo Chavez (who was murdered by the criminal bankers) had Venezuela on the right track. Today Venezuela, like Brazil and Bolivia are under heavy attack from this same banker class.

Several interesting observations, with partial analysis. It was big government with a social conscience that made Barbados so attractive physically, politically and socially to foreign capitalists and refugees. The physical infrastructure was built by central government through taxes on the rich. The excellent public health system, hospitals, clinics etc were built through taxes and public debt. Without debt and taxes Barbados would not have been the middle income country it is today. Compare our development with countries where big business held on to their wealth and control of government.

The private sector did not build the airport, the deep water harbour, the state of the art Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the University of the West Indies, nor the excellent network of roads. Government taxes and Public debt built them. So please don’t jump on this seriously flawed foreign band wagon of Bad Big Government. It has not been the Barbados experience

Sometimes you have to wonder which of these worlds people like the writer of this piece lives in, quintessentially elitist talking points aimed at misleading a population that their problems are not of the making of the money-changers.
But she is not alone, as a country. For the maximum expressions of neo-liberal capitalism in Barbados has thought those who would want to have more of the same, under a misbegotten rubric of individualism and special personal talent, could solve the problems money-grabbing ‘animals’ like June Naime continue to create.
We apologies to our friends, ‘the animals’, and plants, for the behaviors of the worst two-legged beast of all. That is where Naime’s piece is properly located.

There is always a tussle of how much is too much government, Codgy. The government also runs and subsidies an island wide transportation system while private operators pic off the ripe routes and mek nuff money. They subsidize the QEH but den they is nuff medical money makers wid private clinics bout the place. How much is too much?
Is it possible to privatize the QEH. A part-way thing only. Set some key steps pon de ladder than gotta be reached, offer really great incentives and say go forward and make my public healthy. At the moment the government don’t seem to be running de place. The ‘statutory corp’ model really means nothing. They need to consider a private partner and ALL that that would entail.
Ah well, there are as many different types and forms of government processes or operational strictures as they are economists to throw darts at so the health of the economy must be about what is successful, not what is the ideal scorecard.
Jesus, de women write bout she family experiences and it draw some proper lashes. I sure that she and de Chefette man get dem start wid bank loans or borrow the money because of who dem was moreso than because they had a great idea. But fah real though unless they kill more than chickens and some cows along the way you really still gotta give dem some credit for all the people dem they employed (pissy money though it was) and thing.
About de same time you had dem fellas Greene – and de udder fella who name I can’t remember – who also grew dem fast food business wid de KFC franchise. That too employed low wage people but provided proper impetus to the economy too.
Dem fellas was black and they didn’t brek up wid nah rancor.
You also got de Pizza Man who doctored his way to a popular fast food option. Unfortunately he couldn’t sustain his model. Did he falter because of his blackness or because his food type stopped being popular. Or a bit of both.
De lashes sound pretty and ting but sometimes ya also gotta look at Jack’s jacket and accept that it fits well because he worked out real hard to fill it out. It was also made by a good tailor but the fact that he was frigging lucky to even get de money to pay the tailor is another interesting story all by itself.

This must be one of the most unusual, rambling and self -indulgent post that I have encountered on BU. I believe that this lady has, unwittingly, posted her article to the wrong organisation.
If I am wrong then could you – please – explain to the BU family why you have given a platform to a “sand negro”?

Interesting.
From 3 levels.
I wonder if BU bloggers and readers are starting to realise the increasing depth of readership that BU is attracting?
While the Blogmaster will understandably NOT SHARE those readership details with you (or me) you have to start to realise that the extent of the readership and the participation is DEFINITELY INCREASING.
BU is of course feared by many, particularly the People in My Parliament the PIMPS, both BLP & DLP (the Party in Power both pimps and pips) but it is also coming to be highly respected.
June Naime, like Ms. Heather Cole, is a big hardback woman in the Bajan sense, and both women are able to take the brunt of any frontal assault, and give in kind. So Ms. Naime of the Diabetes inducing empire will understand that people here will comment for, OR AGAINST, her establishment, if it can happen in Murica, it will happen here.
Point 2.
We live in a variegated spectrum of denizens of niggers, sand niggers, buckra johnies and all sorts of other pretenders.
Mrs June Naime while she gets no pass, nor I am sure that she did not expect one, did something very strange with that utterance, and identification as a descendant of a sand nigger, she pronounced it to the world. While we always proud of our ancestry and saying how we are negroes, she said that she was of such ancestry. Lord knows that this going cause real ruption in and among her peoples so for that de ole man gots to say that that alone give her some serious points in my book.
Point 3.
You Exclaimer more than most here must see the constancy of Adrian Loveridge’s posts, Lawson’s contributions the John’s etc as the attempts by people in different colours of our skin as efforts to either (a) lord over us with their own successes (b) present bridges of engagement or (c) be emblematic of persons who, having lived here on this side of the veil, wish to expiate self for various wrongs, like “now at the hour of (victory over disease and) death”
All three points taken together with the purpose of this Blog and seemingly are getting to a point of engagement.
Besides being openly complimentary of Mr. Bynoe she said what all of us believe there are no free rides, why should you toil and your free riding neighbours benefit, government should be an enabler as opposed to being a disabler (or in my case and many of our cases a competitor)
Where there seems to be some disconnect though is in that “right of self determination” because it doan simple just appear because you will it however she alluded to the fact that even with hard work, circumstances can conspire to overwhelm all of that self actuation.
Here is where the rubber hits the road Exclaimer for if, like David Come Sing A Song and Adrian Loveridge, she post this long item, and then refuses to engage or like Ms Cole sit back and assess the barometric pressure of her submissions then you can be sure that she gine get cuss out too like de rest uh dem does get.
Roosevelt “Ty” King Activist and Bajan to the Core passed recently and he accumulated 200 comments as a grass roots man, Tony Cozier is now at close to 400 with remembrances far and wide of auld acquaintances long forgot and rarely brought to mind.
Which memory s the fonder, or whose contribution is the greater?
Who is to say that Mrs Naime does not come here and hear the super intelligent contributor AC (heheheheheh) make some contribution adn that causes her to go forthwith and change the minimum wages for all her staff? or remove the MSG from her rotis? we must engage with sincerity or else we WILL engage in war.

@ Pieceuhderockyeahright May 19, 2016 at 4:10 PM,
I was going to write a comprehensive reply to you and the devil’s advocate – David, but I will refrain from doing so.
Madam Naime’s views are so diametrically the opposite of mine that I believe that it will serve no purpose for me to engage in conversation with her.
Just today, I read an article in Al Jazeera which highlighted the everyday humiliation faced by my Negro brothers and sisters in Brazil. (Ref: http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/05/private-police-target-rio-dark-skinned-homeless-160516114001227.html). The plight of the Bajan Negro mirrors that of his Brazilian Negro ancestors. I would like to believe that her intentions are good. However I believe that she is hopelessly out of her depth. Her optimism does not reflect the everyday reality of the difficulties faced by the majority Negro population.
Just for the record Madam Naime, I am in favour of asset stripping both the wealth and the assets of the cossetted minority who have made Barbados their home. Sir Denis Healey, the ex-UK Chancellor of the Exchequer under a Ted Wilson Labour government from the early seventies went on record to say that he was going to impose a level of taxation on the rich so high that it was going to make their “pips squeak”.
What gives this lady the confidence to come onto this blog to deliver a patronising sermon to the BU family and by extension the majority Negro population?

Barbados was NEVER great. Except for some poor-great people. And there were lots of them.
But this canned, American think tank sloganeering, could only impress the mental-slowed but otherwise ‘normal’.
But if pressed to find an epoch where one might say Barbados was great it would be during slavery. For a period therein, Barbados was a centre of that globalization project – chattel slavery. It produced a lot of sugar and was a valuable possession of England.
But great! No sir ree.
Or maybe the originators of slavery. The bondage of Slavic peoples by Arabs, have a plan for Barbados, maybe!
Luckily for them, there are many who will blindly, and willing, re-enter that dark age.

@Exclaimer, what is so difficult to debate with Naime or to respond to the blogmaster query? Naime is an avowed capitalist and she speaks in support of her kind and kith and kin who can most easily benefit (in a place like Barbados) from the free-market conditions of a robust capitalist society. That is pellucid.
You are an avowed socialist or Marxist or at minimum an avowed distributor of the pie to all and disenfranchised.
But the time for sloganeering is done. We have had the communist experiments and the wanton capitalist orgasmic cycles. They have both essentially shown that neither provide ‘real’ benefice to the overall good of the country – and communism/socialism has proven to be most deficient in key areas.
I would love to see you answer David without nonsensical sloganeering. Offer real and meaningful details where any ‘Labour’ government (across the globe) imposed ‘a level of taxation on the rich to make their “pips squeak’ and the society as a whole progressed well.
We have had this Brazil discussion before. Not sure what has changed (other than the Pres) in that country over the years that would excite a new race discussion. They have the largest population of Africans outside the African continent (it is said) yet Blacks in the corridors of power are almost non-existent. What’s new re Al Jazeera? Nothing really.
And although I do not share Naime sentiments about the free-for-all capitalism I certainly endorse….
… You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
Opportunities need to be provided but faciliatang sch with burdensome taxation is counter productive.
… What another person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
That is true in Black, White or Sand. No one likes a leech.
… When half of the people Do Not Have To Work because the other half is Going To Take Care Of Them; and the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what he worked for, That is The Beginning and The End of A Nation.
We all need to work and we all seek opportunity to do so. But the pervasive corruption here or in Nigeria or in Russia does create grave problems. And in our case it’s done by Black people. Naime is asking for her slice. But who are the ones facilitating her and her kind.
You really should respond to David and Piece’s queries…need not be detailed.

Absolutely awesome, Mr Blogmaster. Very insightful.
I can completely agree with his #1: China will be top economy in 10-15 years.
All he said is deep and the current US elections make him look like the wisest oracle.
But of course China with it’s somewhat monolithic population has what the US and Europe does not: bothersome immigrants.
So we can’t transpose their one party structure thus we will continue to look for some workable option in this fractured thing we call democracy!

Isn’t it interesting that after some people have made it to the top they find it necessary to take a break from binging on their truffles and caviar to admonish those who were pivotal in their ascent to the upper echelons!
When the Europains and Arabs were starting out ignorant, po, sick and hungry who did they USE to assist them in the accumulation of their wealth? And how was the help rewarded?
While you commend Mr. Bynoe, let it be known that Blacks didn’t come from a society of individualism. We were from those societies where “It Took A Village” and today in our desperation to be like you and the slave master we have evolved into monsters, anti-christs. The “it takes a village’ mentality has been bred out of us and if you were truly honest you would admit that almost all other ethnicities on this planet including that fine Ant specie work in tandem, while you encourage Black to pursue one-manship knowing that its easier to maintain control over a divided people. How devious and dishonest can you be?
Just ask Queen Elizabeth and the other ‘wealthy’ parasites on this planet about your silly “5 Truths you can’t Disagree with” I’m sure they could contradict you.
So the real moral of your story is that lazy Blacks in Barbados should stop looking for hand out, pull themselves up by their bootstraps and return to the plantation so that they can maintain and increase your wealth thru patronage even though there’s a money drought on Barbados. Come on niggers get a movin’

Very perceptive.
The modern ‘village’ is encapsulated in the cooperative principles of pooling resources and respecting individualism via one man, one vote.
it is only blacks ourselves who are to blame for our failure to capitalise on this strength while we blindly follow the albino-centric way of materialism and selfishness.

@Bush Tea
The cooperative principle you speak of is forever compromised given the shift in our society. An aspirational behaviour has taken root where to buy a house in a built up area, a car, a job that reflects being upwardly mobile etc. Not sure how we can pull it bank. What are the personal values we can tag to make the adjustment and how how how.

@ David
There is nothing intrinsically wrong with the aspirations that you have outlined. Societies shift and goals move on – that is actually quite desirable. The problem that we have is the individual inclination to achieve these goals at any cost.
Cooperatives are not about living poor and hand-to-mouth, they are about collective responsibility, collective interests and collective progress. So that a co-op housing approach to the Coverley travesty for example would have considered the interests of the eventual home-owners and CERTAINLY would not have been designed in that ridiculously zoo-like manner…or at that cost.
Perhaps with a proper housing co-operative, the average Bajan would live in a comfortable house in a ‘Heights’ or ‘Terrace’ somewhere, while working together to help each other become productive enough to afford this level.
The albino-centric methodology calls for those individuals with the ability to, by hook or crook, bulldoze their way to the heights – usually on the backs of the less fortunate.
The co-operative methodology is for the whole village (including AC, Alvin and Dompey) to be all relocated to the heights, in a manner that is collectively agreed under a one man, one vote arrangement.

David, there is nary a ‘pull back’ in cooperative principle. The model to which Bush Tea continually harps is NON-EXISTENT at the national level. Never was and never will be.
There has NEVER been a time when one-man, one-vote has truly functioned in society and brought about any collective to success. No where across the world. Not in Russia, China and certainly not the US or here.
Voting is always skewed by some overriding factors (strong interest group (s) ) and in the main does not truly go to the will of the individual in the street.
A very simple …very, very simple… example of that locally is the abject failure of any cooperative principles to drive political success. The factors and real practices enforced at the Credit Union level have worked. They have NOT at a national political level.
So BT can continue to preach his neologism and broken social theory. For a man with a real thing like a whacker he strangely proffers this glassy eyed theory often. (LOLL…that itself is a contradiction!!!)
I would ask people like Hopi who according to Bushie make these perceptive determination of how us Blacks were such great masters of our destiny. So what? Are we today?
Unless that historical reference is being used to buttress our work practices today isn’t it embarrassing to reflect that we had it going on and then some others came and ‘bred’ it out of us. That they were ‘po and sick’ and we basically nurtured them.
Is that not what the conquered do at the behest of the conquerors?
What is perceptive about that unless we have regained our status and we are boasting how we evolved, regressed and rose again.
Lotta a pretty talk devoid of REAL meaning.

The single most successful organs of black enfranchisement in Barbados in the last 50 years have been SPECIFICALLY, ….the BPWCCU and the COB…. BOTH national organisations, along with dozens of other parochial, business oriented and other credit unions that have empowered multiple thousands of Bajans to take better control of their financial affairs.
This fetish you have for arguing based on whether something ‘exists somewhere already’; does not work in albino-land- where you are scotching; or is not the generally accepted norm is silly – given the total and utter chaos that is represented across your albino controlled reality.
Shiite man, this is a grown-up discussion …about concepts that SHOULD be explored PRECISELY because they run counter to your failed ‘normal’ shiite. How is arguing that it is NON-EXISTENT (even if THAT was true) relevant?

So may I say “This fetish you have for arguing based on” beautiful theory and practice exercised in limited and specific confines with your self perpetuating neologism is SILLY.
So let’s raise the bar again from your stupid attack on me, and please tell me where and what country in what century have cooperative principles been executed and maintained on the national political scale.
That was clearly enunciated. Go get that mirror first !!!
Grown up discussions deal with facts. Not newly formed words or self-serving platitudes.
They also do not shift the debate to your false interpretation of the facts so that you can maintain a lovely pinata. I say this though you do have that Trump process down perfectly…throw some shade at the speaker and sweetly move pass the meat of the matter.
What is NON-EXISTENT is the basic political concepts we palaver about. There is no such thing as a true democracy one-man, one-vote; no such real thing as a communist rule by the people for the people.
We can all embrace cooperatives constructs. That is obviously the ethos of ALL successful societies as a way of life. It is not what happens at the political level.
See if you can work in the real grown-up room for a post or two.

Cooperative principles have worked in many countries, at the national level. Examples are Ghadafi’s Libya and Burnham’s Guyana.
But why do we have to see them being successful somewhere else before we can institute things that work right here in Barbados for us?
What we do know is that the current national systems not wukking. You seem to want to continue with the status quo to infinity.

You have really taken tooo much cool aide from the American think tanks.
Despite what they tell you the USA has the largest social welfare programs in the world. Without which there will be widespread social unrest, such is the nature of poverty.
All the European countries too have massive social welfare systems. So much so that Britain has been called a socialist country in the academic literature.
What these indispensable welfare systems tell us is that your capitalist orthodoxy has failed and will continue so to do.
Everything you have said is a lie. Let’s deal with violence. No self-declared socialist countries are involved in your fictitious wars for terrorism. The most violent imperial project of the last 50 years.

For what its worth: I never suggested nor do I believe we can ” continue with the status quo to infinity”.
I am not as impressed as you that Burnham’s processes worked wonderfully well. Apart from his obvious minority forced rule (necessary if you were Black I presume) why did so many Blacks also leave Guyana in droves?
Anyhow, the discussion will sink into a left-right argument and that is not what it should be. Neither side of the spectrum has been absolutely right.
Success (like your Burnham or Lee) were not based on strict cooperative models, strict socialism and certainly not strict democracy.
Is Barbados ready to embrace the strong tactics needed to get the political life on track. If yes then prepare the jails for the several power-brokers than will be indicted.

Well a judgement is yet to be made as to whether the Burnham regime was better or worse than what is currently happening, right now. Burnham has been dead for decades and Guyanese are still seeking to leave in their numbers. Then, we should look to other factors for causation.

“Socialism considers the individual person simply as an element, a molecule within the social organism, so that the good of the individual is completely subordinated to the functioning of the socioeconomic mechanism. Socialism likewise maintains that the good of the individual can be realized without reference to his free choice, to the unique and exclusive responsibility, which he exercises in the face of good or evil.
Man is thus reduced to a series of social relationships, and the concept of the person as the autonomous subject of moral decision disappears, the very subject whose decisions build the social order. From this mistaken conception of the person there arise both a distortion of law, which defines the sphere of the exercise of freedom, and an opposition to private property. A person, who is deprived of something he can call “his own,” and of the possibility of earning a living through his own initiative, comes to depend on the social machine and on those who control it. This makes it much more difficult for him to recognize his dignity as a person, and hinders progress towards the building up of an authentic human community.
In contrast, from the Christian vision of the human person there necessarily follows a correct picture of society. According to Rerum Novarum and the whole social doctrine of the Church, the social nature of man is not completely fulfilled in the State, but is realized in various intermediary groups, beginning with the family and including economic,
social, political and cultural groups which stem from human nature itself and have their own autonomy, always with a view to the common good. This is what I have called the “subjectivity” of society which, together with the subjectivity of the individual, was cancelled out by “Real Socialism.”” — Pope John Paul II, Centesimus Annus, 1991

The Scandinavian Socialism Utopia is Bullshit
December 6, 2012 The Admin 259 Comments
A popular argument in support of high taxes is to bring up the success of the Scandinavian socialist system. Liberals like to point out that Scandinavia (Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Iceland) enjoys a strong economy and high standard of living despite high taxes and a cradle-to-grave welfare system.
If you talk to a liberal about Scandinavia, you’ll often see them make some variation of the following points:
If only those stupid, gun-clinging, bible-thumping, mouth-breathing, inbred, bucktoothed, ignorant, racist, backwards redneck hick republicans would just get out of the way, the left could make life fair and equal for everyone. The large-government welfare state works in Scandinavia and it would work here too!
The problem is that the success of Scandinavian socialism is a myth. It’s false. It doesn’t work for them and it wouldn’t work for us.
Arguments
Below are some facts that show how dubious the whole “socialism is awesome in Scandinavia” claim really is. Use these arguments to quickly rebuke mindless socialists in the course of conversation.
1. Scandinavia isn’t really all that socialist
Scandinavian countries have certain socialist characteristics such as high taxes and extensive welfare systems. However, these countries have relatively capitalistic markets. Scandinavian businesses are mostly free from regulation, nationalization and protectionism.
Let’s look at a few key indicators of free enterprise in Scandinavia.
Denmark:
Ranks higher than the US in business freedom, monetary freedom, investment freedom, financial freedom, property freedom and freedom from corruption.
Source
Finland:
Ranks higher than the US in business freedom, monetary freedom, investment freedom, fiscal freedom, property freedom and freedom from corruption.
Source
Iceland:
Iceland ranks a little lower than the US in most of these key indicators. It’s close, though. Remember also that Iceland has a smaller total population (320,000) than Wichita, KS.
Source
Norway:
Ranks higher than the US in trade freedom, property freedom and freedom from corruption.
Source
Sweden:
Ranks higher than the US in business freedom, monetary freedom, investment freedom, financial freedom, property freedom and freedom from corruption.
Source
The overall point here is that Scandinavian countries have fairly capitalistic business environments. It is foolish to point to any Scandinavian country and call it an example of socialism working.
We can also look at government spending as a percentage of GDP. In the “capitalist” United States, government spending is equal to roughly 40% of the national GDP. In the “socialist” Norway, government spending is equal to roughly 46% of the national GDP. (Source.)
It is dishonest to compare Norway to the US and call one an example of successful socialism and the other an example of failed capitalism when both governments spend similar amounts of money on a percentage basis.
2. Scandinavia isn’t actually as prosperous as liberals like to claim
A study by Swedish group Timbro compared the GDP of various European Union nations to those of individual states in the United States. As stated by the study:
“If the EU were a part of the United States of America, would it belong to the richest or the poorest group of states?”
Denmark:
If Denmark were one of the US states, it would rank tenth among the poorest states for per capita GDP.
Finland:
Finland would come in fifth among the poorest if it were a US state.
Sweden:
Sweden would be the seventh-poorest as a state of the US.
Additionally, the study found that the United States as a whole ranks higher in economic output per person than every European Union nation except for the tax haven economy of Switzerland. Denmark, Sweden and Finland all ranked significantly lower than the United States. Norway was not included in the study as it is not a member of the EU.
Next, the study compared individual US states to various countries in the EU. Once again, individual states ranked higher in economic output per person than each EU country. Only Luxemburg ranked near the top. Most EU nations ranked alongside the poorest states in the US.
So, that does it for economic output. Next, the study took a look at private consumption. Once again, we find that the US as a whole outranks the entire EU, including those Scandinavian countries that are EU member nations.
The study also found several other interesting facts: those classified as “low income” in the US live better than those classified as low income in the EU – including Denmark, Sweden and Finland. The US also ranked higher in average dwelling space and domestic appliance ownership (clothes washers, dishwashers, radios, etc.).
3. Scandinavians have lower gross and disposable incomes
People in Scandinavia make less money before taxes and after taxes.
United States:
Average disposable income: 31,410 US Dollars
Average gross income: 42,028 US Dollars
Source
Norway:
Average disposable income: 25,224 US Dollars
Average gross income: 37,094 US Dollars
Source
Finland:
Average yearly income: 24,958 US Dollars
Source
Sweden:
Average yearly income: 22,387 US Dollars
Source
Denmark:
Average yearly income: 23,213 US Dollars
Source
Iceland:
Average yearly income: 22,387 US Dollars
Source
This completely destroys the point that liberals like to make about individuals living better in Scandinavia than they do in the United States. On top of that, Scandinavian countries have some of the highest costs of living in Europe.
4. But money isn’t everything! What about the poor?
It’s clear that the United States outranks Scandinavia in most economic indicators. Americans make more money. But, the ever-empathetic liberal may say that money isn’t everything. More important than how much money people make is how well a country takes care of its poor.
Your liberal friends may claim that the low poverty rates in Scandinavian countries show that its massive welfare systems are working as intended. What’s so bad about everyone making a little less money if we can make a dent in poverty? You know, it’s the old “the rich can afford to pay a little more” argument…
It’s almost impossible to compare poverty levels between the US and various Scandinavian countries due to differences in the definition of “poverty.” There are serious problems with how poverty is determined. For example, some countries only take current income into account and therefore count students and retired wealthy people among the poor.
But having said that, we can generally agree that Scandinavian countries have fairly low poverty levels. Does this mean that the high-tax, big-welfare system is better?
Nope.
First of all, it is quite a leap to point to tax rates or welfare programs as the single determinant of poverty or prosperity. For example, the extremely capitalistic country of Switzerland has a lower poverty rate than most Scandinavian countries. Switzerland is a unique example (international tax haven), but the point is that you cannot point to any one factor as the single determinant of poverty rates.
There is zero evidence anywhere in the world that high taxes reduce poverty. Just because a few countries with high taxes have low poverty rates does not mean high taxes are good. There are plenty of counter examples of countries with high taxes and high poverty rates and vice versa.
Look at the United States. The War on Poverty was declared nearly 50 years ago and has pumped roughly 7 trillion tax dollars into combating poverty. At current spending levels, we could just straight up give $27,000 a year to every poor person in the US and they’d be better off.
Look at what all that public spending has accomplished:
Source
High taxes do not help the poor; economic growth does.
We also have to take into account the massive immigrant population in the United States. In a country of 310 million people, 14.5% of the US population is foreign-born. Most other countries with high levels of immigration also have high levels of poverty. There are numerous studies that show high immigration rates actually do affect a country’s poverty rates.
Sweden is the only Scandinavian country with a foreign-born population comparable to the United States. However, poverty among immigrants in Sweden has been growing rapidly over the past few years. According to this study, immigrant children accounted for 65% of all poor children in Sweden in 2008. By comparison, only 5% of native Swedish children live in poverty.
According to that same study:
“The Swedish model appeared to produce amazing results as long as the country was completely homogeneous and full of Swedes. But the much admired welfare state was unable to deal with even moderate levels of ethnic diversity (still far below the levels of the United States) without a collapse in social outcomes.”
The conclusion we can draw from all this is that the Swedish system is not responsible for low poverty rates. Other factors, such as homogenous population and the industrious spirit of the Swedes, is responsible. If immigration and government spending continue unchecked in Sweden, the model will eventually become unsustainable.
Note: I got some help from this article in making this point.
5. Norway is backed by big oil
When liberals point to the per-capita GDP of Norway, they forget to mention that much of this is a result of big oil interests. Norway is the largest oil producer and exporter in all of Western Europe. Norway produces roughly 200 barrels of oil per person per year. That puts it at number 5 in the world for per capita oil production. (Source.)
The conclusion we can draw from this is that a significant portion of Norway’s per capita GDP is based on oil revenues. In other words, Norway is successful despite its government, not because of its government.
Incidentally, I find it funny that those same liberals who vehemently vilify big oil are happy to ignore that little fact when pointing to the success of Norway.
6. Scandinavians aren’t as happy as Americans
Liberals (and Scandinavians) love to claim that Scandinavian countries top various “happiness indexes.” They say that Scandinavians are so much happier and more content than Americans for a variety of reasons.
Let’s just ignore all the problems that come with trying to assign a number to “happiness.” Let’s ignore that there is no single definition for happiness. Let’s also ignore how easy it is for left-leaning organizations to manipulate these studies to show what they want to show. Let’s just forget all of that.
Instead, let’s look at suicide rates. Suicide rates are cold, hard numbers not subject to interpretation. You’re either dead by your own hand or not.
Every single Scandinavian country ranks higher than the United States in suicide rates. Every single country. Finland ranks 5th in the world for suicides per 100,000 people. By comparison, the United States ranks 18th.
Suicide rankings compared:
Source
Conclusion
In a conclusion based on facts and hard numbers, we can see that Scandinavia is not an example of successful socialism by any measure. It’s not a terrible place to live, but it’s clearly not the utopia that liberals love to make it out to be.
The above facts and figures prove that socialism did not make these countries great. These countries have small, homogenous populations, oil money and free markets. These countries do well despite high taxes, not because of high taxes.
Plus, if you look around the world at true socialisms, you’ll see massive failures. Historically, socialism (and other forms of collectivism) has always resulted in poverty, starvation and widespread death. Scandinavians are fortunate that they don’t yet live in an all-out socialism.

Glenn Reynolds: Don’t be a sucker for socialism
Glenn Harlan Reynolds 8:06 p.m. EDT May 16, 2016
From the USSR to Venezuela, experience reveals Sanders’ policies wouldn’t enrich anyone but a ruling elite.
It is a common misconception that socialism is about helping poor people. Actually, what socialism does is create poor people, and keep them poor. And that’s not by accident.
Under capitalism, rich people become powerful. But under socialism, powerful people become rich. When you look at a socialist country like Venezuela, you find that the rulers are fabulously wealthy even as the ordinary citizenry deals with empty supermarket shelves and electricity rationing.
The daughter of Venezuela’s socialist ruler, Hugo Chavez, is the richest individual in Venezuela, worth billions of dollars, according to the Miami-based Diario Las América. In Cuba, Fidel Castro reportedly has lived — pretty much literally — like a king, even as his subjects dwelt in poverty. In the old Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, as Hedrick Smith reported in his The Russians, the Communist Party big shots had lavish country houses and apartments in town stocked with hand-polished fresh fruit, even as the common people stood in line for hours at state-run stores in the hopes of getting staples.
There’s always a lot of talk about free health care, but it’s generally substandard for the masses and fancy for the elite. (The average Cuban or Venezuelan peasant — or Soviet-era Russian — doesn’t get the kind of health care that people at the top get.)
In the old Soviet Union, the new communist nobility, whose positions and influence seemed to run in families somehow, were called the Nomenklatura (from the Latin word for a list of names). Despite all the talk about equality, etc., they generally did a lot better than people who didn’t have the right connections. Dissident Milovan Djilas referred to these managers and apparatchiks (another Soviet-era word) as the “New Class.” Where socialist equality was supposed to eliminate the distinction between exploited workers and peasants and their capitalist exploiters, it instead produced a new distinction, between exploited workers and peasants and their “New Class” socialist oppressors.

Who are you attacking for socialism?
We know not too many people who are that ideologically bent anymore. Nobody really cares too much about one ism or another ism. People just want better distribution of resources, fairness. The Soviet Union and international socialism/communism, as Zionist projects, formally collapse 20 years ago.
That capitalist boogeymen man is dated, dead. Now, capitalists like you must tell us is why so many people are still in poverty?
Why there has been gross consolidation of wealth in fewer and fewer hands?
Why 65 individuals have more wealth than 4 billion people?
Why some business people could build their fortunes on illegal drugs and then present to us as washed in the blood of the lamb, as a repository of morality, even if in the last generation?
Why global capitalists like you need perennial war in your parents homeland and are willing to continue to sponsor terrorists to steal resources?
Why capitalists can’t do one *uck unless they have government help, meaning the help of the mass of people?
In any event and since you don’t seem to know, cooperation is a totally different political philosophy. Your loosely merging them will not change the political science literature. You dullard, yuh learn something today!

Suicide by socialism. Right before our eyes, Venezuela is disintegrating. Was it an invasion that did it? An earthquake, tsunami or other natural disaster? No. It was a seductive but horribly evil system called socialism, ushered in by a demagogue who preached envy and confiscation, pitted class against class, denounced the individual and glorified the collective, concentrated power in the hands of a nanny state that always has the iron fist within the velvet glove. Endless promises of free this or subsidized that. “Rights” were degraded to mere desires. The end came to be justified by whatever means were necessary. Good and honest people want nothing to do with the mess and their exit accelerates the free fall. What sounded nice, wrapped in terms like “we’re going to take care of you” was really a snare for the gullible. Whatever made anybody think this could end well? Lie after lie after lie. That’s what socialism does.

It does not take ANY intellect to disagree or to tear down nonsense.
Anyone can see when a tree is not bearing fruit…. except apparently the roots, stems and leaves….and as a great bushman once said, …
“A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, by their fruit you will recognise them”
What takes great intellect is the cultivation of ‘good trees’.

Article 1.
Let me start your edification.
You the poster DO NOT HAVE THE OPTION TO POST OR TRUNCATE AN ARTICLE HERE ON BU. ONLY THE BLOGMASTER HAS THAT OPTION!!
Dis is David King ting not yours and you were granted a “latitude” because it was your first post.
Article 2.
I reiterate that you are an insulting woman who, mayhaps because you accustomed talking to black people at your establishment in that BOGOLORD fashion, felt that you could come here and lord it over the BU audience.
Wrong effing answer,
You spewed shyt*e here in our ears that is an exact copy and paste of the article titled “http://www.bullshitexposed.com/scandinavian-socialism-debunked/”
After having shared about personal achievement and self actuation and all the other effing dribble you then went from introduction into plagiarism and that showed that Pachamama’s comment about you being an in intellectual wimp to be true.
Nothing that i write here is any effing body’s ideas Big Effing Mama, I am the author (rather the conduit) of these things short or long, that is my effing choice
You are a fraud not only for the above reasons of cut and effing paste but because when you could not get your way with your dribble you then went the route of personal insult and asked if Pachamama had an effing job!!
Yet you came in sheeps clothing rather in the clothing of a sand nigger, talking to real nigggers seeking a fvckvng pass.
DAT SHY*E DUN.
any idiot of which you seem to lead the pack BigMama, can cut and paste and AC, of legion fame does not do it, and she is an idiot supreme for 25ths of the embodiment of Legion, so you, WILL NOT GET A PASS.
Article 3.
Jeff Cumberbatch is a brilliant man AND WHEN HE FIRST CAME he was given a baptism of fire which I recall almost caused him to retract his national service here.
Georgie Porgie erroneously focused on this matter as it being consistent with sharing your Sand Nigger background, but he was wrong and will see now why he was wrong because after 2,702 words that the blogmaster allowed you you enhanced it with dribble.
You are a dufus who, after so called sharing, sought to insult the BU community with other peoples ideas AND when it was time to revert to your own utilized the only way that you know personal denigration of the niggers who can talk back to your elitist crap.
Finally, the tainted pod of which you speak is “the Castle of my Skin, and that is an insult of the highest order to the “collective Mentalities” that you speak of.
I dun wid dis Bigmama shyte and with you.

That number is probably equal to, or severely exceeded by, your own count of “dislikes” on this blog.
As i have shared with your AC before this, the impact of the campaign against you and your ilk is NOT TO be measured in people in white shirts marching along Broad Street to Browne’s Beach.

I probably lack the tools to dismantle these 5 trutsh that are being spread through the blogosphere, but they strike me as nothing more than right wing lunacy being peddled as commonsense.
You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity
—- Pray tell me, who is legislating the wealthy out of prosperity? The real truth is that the rich are getting richer as a select few manage to get their hand on a greater share of the wealth; the middle class is shrinking . This is the real truth in capitalist and socialist paradises.
Are you talking about welfare? Corporate welfare probably consumes more wealth than the paltry sum handed out to those in need.
What another person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
– I don’t know what this means; but as I peruse the various blogs on BU it seems as if the rich are getting the bulk of the cake by networking. Is networking considered as work?
And some are working their ass off and being underpaid as a fortunate few reap the benefit (not of their own work but) of their capital. We do not envy them this, but let us not confuse having capital as working tirelessly.
The Government cannot give anybody anything that the Government does not first Take from somebody else.
——- The rich probably gets more out of government than the poor does. It is easy to point at at an individual and say “the government just gave him a a check”. It is much more difficult to identify corporate welfare. 2006 – “The final totals are $59 billion, 3 percent of the total federal budget, for regular welfare and $92 billion, 5 percent of the total federal budget, for corporations. So, the government spends roughly 50% more on corporate welfare than it does on these particular public assistance programs.”
http://thinkbynumbers.org/government-spending/corporate-welfare/corporate-vs-social-welfare/
You cannot Multiply Wealth by Dividing it.
— Can you multiply wealth by concentrating it in the hands of just the rich? Silly, what you are doing is increasing (spreading) poverty.
When half of the people Do Not Have To Work because the other half is Going To Take Care Of Them; and the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what he worked for, That is The Beginning and The End of A Nation.
——Sounds good, but what on earth does it mean? The premise is false. The statistics is false. It sounds good saying it, but it is false. Let’s keep it real. I doubt that there is anywhere on earth where half of the people do not have to work.
Like I said.. I probably lack the tools to properly refute these truths, but they are nothing more than right wing nonsense. This seem to be the mantra of a selfish rich people trying to get more of the cake by explaining why others should get less or none of it.
I enjoyed your personal story
LikeLike
Let me state that I admired and enjoyed your personal story, but when you wander off that reservation your writing is serious flawed.
Perhaps it is because your personal struggle lacked the depth of poverty that others have experience that you are unable to differentiate between truth and fiction. A light complexion in Barbados can often open doors that are closed in the face of a black man with money.
“As to the poor: Free Enterprise (Capitalism) leaves each individual free to think, work, and make as much money as he is willing and able to earn. No other social system on earth does this. In a capitalist society, if a poor person wants to work his way out of poverty—as countless poor people have done—he is fully free to do so. Of course, if he doesn’t want to, he doesn’t have to; the choice is his to make, and no one can force him one way or the other….”
Sounds good, but it is almost utter nonsense. We do not live in a vacuum. We live in a real world where others conspire to deny other their rights or even their lives., You may be willing to work hard, but getting a job may not be that easy. You may have ideas for enterprise, but you may lack the seed money to start that enterprise. Regardless of how hard some work or how much they want to earn, for them, the goal will not be reached. In an ideal world, things would work as you see them; brought up in a world where skin can open more doors than money can in the hands of others, you will see things your way;; the fate of each man would be in his own hands.
Sadly, it is a vicious and complicated world that we live in. Sometimes words have to be more than just words.

Madam June Naime stated yesterday evening “………….Let me further reiterate that BU posted my Article “Because The Content Is Worthy”. REALLY!
David, did you vet the above writer’s column prior to publishing it? In your opinion, June “passed the test”. If so I would be fascinated to know why you have decided to publish June’s article. Frankly, I found it to be highly subjective and incendiary. Her portrayal of capitalism and socialism were so extreme that it did not merit discussion. Secondly, it was clear to me that the writer was aiming a broadside at Barbados Negro population.
Are you so desperate Mr Blog master that you are prepared to dumb down BU editorial policy by entertaining such an individual? There are many on this blog who bristled at the content of Madam Naime’s article. Some would interpret her words as that of a racist.
There is a good reason why many have refused to pass comment on this article. Like me they have no desire to engage with this woman.

Spot on about the over- simplifying of the capitalist and socialist systems. Also total disregard shown to the way colour affects the opportunities open to people. The idea of a level playing field is preposterous. The level of this submission reminds me of Grenville’s school project.

David,
Seriously speaking I do believe we have the capacity to move forward. But not as individuals though a few may beat the odds. Somehow, someway we have to understand that we can’t beat this system alone. That understanding can only come when we appreciate the magnitude of the inequalities stacked against us. We mustn’t pretend they don’t exist. But we mustn’t get stuck in the mire of our complaints. Yes, there is hope if we really want it but yes, there is a humongous obstacle to be overcome.

LOL @ Exclaimer & Donna
It is not mocking.
Clearly you two have not yet brought into Bushie’s theory of ‘albino-centric’ orientation.
If you had, you would better understand that people like Money Brain, Lawson, John and June are GENUINE in their inability to comprehend how we blacks can sit back on such talent and remain poor as shiite.
They HONESTLY mean well when they express indignation at our general failure (with VERY FEW exceptions) to take advantage of quite ideal circumstances to accumulate wealth.
We would do well to listen … for many reasons.
Here is the theory in a nutshell…
Some people in this world are born (and nurtured) with a natural capitalistic predisposition to accumulate wealth at any cost. This motivation drives their very existence.
Black People are generally lacking that specific level of drive. Our genetic orientation, and traditional nurturing have been around the goodwill of the family, the village, and the tribe.
In the clash of the two cultures, it was (probably naturally) the capitalists who won the arms race …and subsequently dominated and controlled the global agenda that defines ‘success’.
Blacks (as is the wont of empty vessels of the brazen brand) have internalised the ‘albino-centric’ philosophy … and we have failed badly at it …for now-obvious reasons.
It is like going into a battle of global cultures and choosing to use the weapons with which the enemy have practiced all their lives – rather than refining and honing OUR natural weapons of battle….. and seriously expecting to win….
Our BU friends are NOT mocking. They just cannot comprehend how anyone can prefer to ‘party’ and ‘fete’ with family and friends and ‘show-off’ to gain status within the tribe – rather than ‘scrunt’, save and accumulate money in the bank …and power of control over others via companies and businesses…..
LikeLike
The problem BT is every time one of you lemmings sticks its head up and grabs for the brass ring all the people who would rather party and fete treat them as a pariah. They all of a sudden, morph into more of a white man than sticking with the tried and true methods of the tribe …not liking to work wed. because it screws up both weekends. I can remember hearing nasty thinks said about RiRi because of her success years ago. Success is a group endeavour and until you stop treating your women as 50 ft of intestines with lips at both ends you will never really get your act together down there.
LikeLike
…and YOUR problem Lawson, it that you have no idea of what is the REAL “act that needs to be got together”.
You PRESUME that it is the accumulation of wealth and power.
THEY presume that it is having a ball and waiting for handouts…
As is the case with ALL religions, Everyone is wrong, while judging everyone else by their flawed standards. The resulting (and growing) chaos around us confirms Bushie’s diagnosis….

I read the post and somewhat agrees with the writer. Some Barbadians are spoilt because they were socialized to expect freeness at every turn and they do not trust each other. They do not want to get up and earn a living. As I walk around St. Michael on early mornings, all I can hear are people with foreign accents on the way to work or on the job.
Talking about having their priorities wrong is an understatement. The Saturday Sun has a story which said that all of the makeup artists are fully book for the remainder of the year. They will make up their faces for all events but complain that they could not get free paracetamol tablets at the hospital although they are sold cheaply at pharmacies. Kadooment band sections are selling out from $450 US and up on the first day while those different races are investing and looking to make money.
Where are the suffering people of Barbados? I know what the reply would be.
LikeLike
You are probably right that they mean well but they need to understand that they have not had our experience and therefore cannot judge. What riles me up is the somewhat condescending manner in which they tend to ignore our experience and minimize its damage to our psyche. The ‘albinos’ have done a number on us and they have done it well. Some of us are thinkers and have unraveled their web of lies whilst others are not as able to grasp the concepts and so rather than “hurt their heads” become escape artists. We must help them along even as they frustrate us. These things take time and a lot of patience.
You are also correct about our communal instinct. I personally can attest to that longing within my soul. I haven’t bought into the Eurocentric idea of success and cannot really imagine what anyone would want with all that money other than to share with those of us in need.
I agree with your submission. It is most succinctly and clearly put and sums it up quite nicely.
