Those who are not blinded by party loyalty to either the Democratic Labour Party or the Barbados Labour Party would have noticed some rather fancy political foot work, […]

over the last couple of weeks.

It seems that our struggling Minister of Finance, Mr. Chris Sinckler, is finding more common ground with our former Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mr. Owen Arthur.

These two gentlemen have similar problems. Sinckler’s legacy will be that he failed on any and every occasion to get the economy moving in a positive direction. And we are slowly discovering that Athur’s much praised stewardship of the economy, during his three terms, is now almost demolished, by the revelations that many of the problems we have, were left unsolved. Both of them are being considered as outstanding failures.

Mr. David Commissiong, who was once in Mr. Arthur’s choir, has now determined that Arthur is a spent force; a colossal nuisance, who did little or nothing substantial, during his reign. What the erudite Commisiong failed to say is that Mia Mottley, the prime minister in waiting, has done considerably less and has far less to offer our country than Arthur. But I leave that there “fuh now” and will certainly return to it in another time and place.

We note that Sinckler is now openly embracing Arthur as a possible advisor to the DLP on economic matters. He has also associated himself with Arthur’s stand on the Dr. Maria Agard affair. Sinckler also told the students of the Parkinson Memorial School, that rougher times are ahead and Bajans need to stop complaining so much. We recall his newly found buddy Arthur saying that everybody wants to go to heaven but no one wants to die. Arthur also said that Bajans were becoming a nation of whiners. The messages are very similar: mush up de place and then blame de people.

But only those who are in deep slumber would be surprised by these developments. After all, Dr. Clyde Mascoll, who was once the major critic of Arthur’s economic policies, ended up in his cabinet!

We have a one party state peoples!

I agree with most of your post, except that on hindsight the boys club was trying to get rid of her from the start, only her political savvy and resilience has kept her on track.

  2. Agard is brave reason why Mia and the blp party is being rake over the coals and just might be hauled into court. Never in the history of barbados politics past independence has a political party be spotlighted as a first / a first to be drawn into a legal process with one of its members on a Constitutional right
Many has said that Agard lacks common sense on this issue however her brave stance has shaken the inner workings of the blp party and caused many faithful followers to recoil in disbelief

  3. What is disingenuous, is for Ms. Mottley’s supporters to pretend that there was not a specific time that Mr. Arthur changed his rhetoric regarding MAM.

Since then, those not fooled by the united facade presented for the 2013 election, will admit that he has been consistent in his opposition to her.

I am willing to be corrected Mr Raw Bake – Give me the specific time he changed his RHETORIC according to you.
And what will changing his rhetoric at a specific change the fact that he previously displayed confidence in her abilities.
and so that your bake would not be overcooked ask Mr Arthur for the specific time during his term of office that he recognized Ms Mottley was lacking in ability.

Yes that is a fact but the boys’ club do not even seem to know why? that is why I can say without a shadow of doubt Dr Agard was surreptitiously used.

  6. She allowed herself to be used …Owen has been constantly advising her and she followed a dead horse who is to take the blame??. Why do u guys for political reasons continue to try to implicate Ms. Mottley directly. She said she asked Maria to work with her Balanchine she refused. Maria is a self centred, arrogant kinda condescending individual who should never be in politics.
Just remember it is the National executive that dismissed Maria and not Ms. Mottley. You guys are continually trying to implicate her for your own personal gain.

  7. Party hacks will never support change. Maintaining the status quo is heaven to them.

  8. So what if he previously had confidence had in her abilities, he for whatever reason, is obviously disillusioned now. Everyone is entitled to change their minds.

Despite your protestations to the contrary, I suspect that you know a whole lot more than most people on this here blog. Furthermore If there were two people in this island not surprised by that UWI press conference, you would be one of them.

MAM ‘s overzealous supporters are doing more damage to her campaign than Mr. Arthur ever could.

  9. @ balance,
I am not here to defend Arthur. I am saying directly to you that Mia is the most over rated politician and thinker out of the entire 30! I have followed her ministerial performance from day one and I see no evidence of anything earth shattering or spectacular. I don’t have a dog in this fight and I stand by my position that you or none of her supporters cannot point to any significant development that she championed . Like most of them in Parliament from both sides, her only claim to glory is that every five years she can come out and pretend they cussing one another. If I agree with Arthur on one point it is that parliament is poor rakey. However, Arthur himself is the King of the poor rakey ! Like I have said for the last twenty five or more years, that as long as we are looking to the BLPDLP to save us , may heaven help us all. I can assure you right now that Mia will not be any more adept at charting a new course for our island than Arthur, Sinckler Stuart or any of them will be. She will grand stand like all the rest. She is cut from the same cloth. Nothing and I mean nothing separates her from the pack.

Interesting post …..what do you suggest to change the status quo…..that is workable…..not pie in the skie nonsense.

  16. not here to say that some politicians are not well deseving to be crticised .However i have become leery and at times amused of critics who use the soap box for the sole purpose of aggrandizing and nothing else .i have found that the ones who protest the most has no interest in the political out come outside what the outcome delivers to their benefit
I am yet to find one of these notorious shooting off the hip critics standing on line or on the the political battle field to serve and protect the countries best interest
Furthermore if questions of concern as to why not throw their hats in the political field there one and only answered and probably the best is that they are not interested
Which then makes me shake my head and think what de f ,,,k

  17. Listen up BLP misfit and listen hard btw do not let commonsense take foot hold of your political sense the two are two horses of a different breed
BY chance a political poll was taken questioning the public which of the two leaders Would earned their respect i submit to you the PM Stuart would beat Mia hands down
Just some political sense for the misfits to think about Go figure before 2018

  18. @ Vincent Haynes,
The only way that we are going to see real change is via a mind set change that has to come from the people themselves. Unfortunately as it now stands, we are so heavily polarised, that new ideas are in short supply and those that surface are usually killed off by the banal. It seems that we have two major groups: one in power and the other waiting to get in. Kind of musical chairs. Furthermore, in the broader scheme of things there can be no real change without reform of the educational system-something that neither party is prepared or capable of implementing. So your question cannot be answered in one sweeping sentence. My current position is that unless new thinkers and leaders come to the fore front, we are in a very hopeless situation and we will simply drift along without any concrete plan.
Ideally, as a compromise, there could be some form of a multi -based government of national reconstruction embracing the widest cross section of the country but that will mean a level of maturity we don’t currently have.We are really in an ongoing political crisis but it does not appear so but one of these mornings, we may very well awake to a Barbados that we don’t recognise. You will note that Cow Williams is now calling workers slaves and saying how they come to work without having clothes etc . Since the Black political managerial class has failed , the gates are now open for the second coming of slavery. Of course this was predicted by true Black nationalists back in the 60s and 70’s but their warnings fell on deaf ears. We have some major problems to address and quite frankly I don’t think the thirty we have in Parliament can solve anything.

  19. @ Raw bake I cannot agree with you more. Tell the idiot Gabriel that the classless, iliterate, hateful, senseless behavior is no longer part of the landscape of this country. If that is the the level that he has to bring the discussion to it surely says very little for him. Although I agree with your condemnation of the fool I cannot agree with you on the nonsense about fractured BLP.
The DLP had two men in Parliament between 1999 and 2003 and as small a group as that was they never spoke. I fact he is dead and gone and Kellman only get a Ministry since he dead. Very few things of the men in Stuart cabinet speaks to him. They have to text him when they want to meet or discuss anything with him. He in turn replies as many as four or five days later if he feels like.
The eager eleven went to over throw Stuart and he hardly speaks to any of the. So that Maria Agard incident is a non issue when it comes to the abolition of UWI fees, the constant increase in taxes, the high unemployment problem, the property foreclosures, the horrible transportation system, the unkept environment, the lack of drug eat the hospital, the bad road network, Freundells constant condescending statement when he does open his nose cause u can’t talk such rubbish through your mouth. Chris’ poor management of the economy now he has joined the band of those making disparaging remarks to bajans. Sure you have many more reasons to vote against this inept useless group than to vote for them..

  20. @William

The only way that we are going to see real change is via a mind set change that has to come from the people themselves. Unfortunately as it now stands, we are so heavily polarised, that new ideas are in short supply and those that surface are usually killed off by the banal.

The biggest irony is that we have just have to look at our neighbours like Guyana, Jamaica and a few others to gauge how political colours can hamper development.

  21. Only the less educated are still singing in Stuart choir. When your Government weak every one else has the power to say and do what ever they like.no management…Stuart has never been and will never be a manager and he surely doesn’t even care. Support him again and the country done….

  22. I can’t say I was surprised at Cow’s comments either as given his saxicolous roots,he uses the demeaning language of the ignoscenti.Barbados is poorer for these silly remarks and observations. These are largely unread fools with access to the money.

  23. @ David, @ Bajan boy, @ Gabriel,
This is how a white Barbadian employer who has built a billion dollar fortune employing mainly Black Barbadians can speak of us: ” Sir Charles today unleashed his fury on the union and employees……reference to workers arising form SLAVERY …and described some workers as INGRATES and LAGGARDS……he suggested little gratitude by some of the workers who were afforded the opportunity to move from SLAVERY….they came to work for us as SLAVERY…….leh me tell you something when they came to work they BARELY HAD CLOTHES……”
IS THIS 2015 OR 1815 ? iS THIS HOW” MASSA” CAN TALK TO OUR FATHERS MOTHERS BROTHERS CHILDREN SISTERS 50 YEARS AFTER INDEPENDENCE ?

IS COW WILLIAMS NOW GOD ?

  24. Which now brings me to the million dollar question of the day What de F..k is Mia Mottley thinking allowing the good name of the BLPto be dragged into court .A party whose image was safely secured by the founding fathers and past leaders who followed closely in their footsteps
What the F..ck is she thinking who would be hurt the most when Agard gate is over
Win or loose this episode in time would be recorded as a blight and a disgrace in the history of the BLP under Mia Mottley

  25. Furthermore, the sad irony in Cow’s remarks is that his company was what the Cement Man years ago referred to as a welfare company, one which relied almost wholly and solely on bajan taxpaerys’ dollars to survive and grow. The motto ‘we move the earth to please’…is now an anachronism.

  26. Never in my wildest dreams would i have believed i would live to see the day the BLP Party was being hauled into court Unbelievable now have me thinking is there a name for this kind of political suicide

  27. @william Straker that is how people behave when a country has no leadership. Everyone is boss. Think he would have done that with either of the other Prime Ministers? Weak Government lack of disciplined.

You are so profoundly right with that remark “these are largely unread with access to the money…”

For years now they have gotten by solely because of that money aided by 95% of a black population of slaves.

The knighted cow, knighted by the recommendations of some of the same slaves, does now cow-tow (no pun intended) to any of the niggers who were so poor that they had nothing on their backs when they first came to word at his aptly named apes hill.

If the apes led by their chief baboon (a genetic misnomer to be sure) were to (a) have other black apes in the same industry as Sir Cow (b) apes who were competent and could be trusted to deliver value for the dollars they solicited from the other apes the (c) if the apes would band together, the could do a Montgomery Alabama on sir cow and his racist wife Lady Hoggie, like the pet pig she has, and , for 365 days don’t buy one shy.te from the knight and let him and all de racist phvckers move the earth to please we apes.

But that would mean dat we had intelligent apes with competence and now de sorta apes dat we got in these same industries and customers dat dem cud push we nigga heads down to the counters and ask we if we can read…

Get closer to them and you will hear how really stupid they are…thank the lucky stars dat Dem gots money…and de Guyanese Director of Public Prosecutions in dem back pocket when dem get angry and in the stupor of the moment Lego shot dem at niggas in high gate or shoot dem…

I am not here to defend Arthur. I am saying directly to you that Mia is the most over rated politician and thinker out of the entire 30! I have followed her ministerial performance from day one and I see no evidence of anything earth shattering or spectacular.”

Skins we have had some heated political debates right in your backyard in Atlanta concerning governance in Barbados where the majority of persons involved were pro-DLP lock-stock-barrel and when I tried to bring balance was labelled a BLP.
I am not here to defend Ms Mottley either and all what you say might be true about her capabilities but she has offered herself for service and except for the defeat in her first outing at the polls has managed to cement herself in her constituency even when the fortunes of her party are down so much so that it has now become a Mia seat and possibly the safest seat the BLP can hold in an election. All I am saying and you seem to agree is that she is no worse than her peers and I daresay better than all of them too and if they deserve a chance to run the poor rakey parliament over which Mr Arthur presided for 14 years and again with which he seems quite comfortable then she deserves a chance too until the system of ‘ electing incompetent parliamentarians to run a poor rakey parliament’ changes.

  31. Just one more comment Skins. I am aware that a lot of DLP supporters who genuinely love the institution because for some reason they hold on to the myth cleverly propagandised that nothing happened in Barbados before the DLP came to power and the DLP introduced free education which opened the doors for the children of poor black people to obtain secondary schooling and the BLP in bed with the dreaded white merchant oppressors – many of these present and former die-hard supporters are ashamed at the performance of this lot in parliament representing the beloved DLP flag and criticise them with a heavy heart. The criticism is generally tongue-in-cheek.Note how they try when they offer criticism against the party they support or supported to implicate the opposition which has been out of power for almost six years.

  32. BU’s critical judgement of Mottley is holding her feet to the fire about promises she made after the gang of 5 ousted her. She promised to democratize the BLP constitution and she has not. It leaves one to conclude it is all the same coming from her.

  33. @William Skinner December 10, 2015 at 9:52 PM #

…and that is the crux of the matter change of the system must come from the politicos who are quite comfortable with the system so why should they change it.

That COW comment has to be taken seriously,a pity when I recall that in the 60’s&70’s a blending of pigmentation had started to take place and left only classism.Looks like we are heading back to the 30’s&40’s as the young melanin poor will jump on the COW bandwagon……how easy COW has forgotten his beginnings.

  34. @Vincent Haynes,
We must always remember: Bussa Dr. Martin King, Malcolm X. These are people who believed that we could effect positive change. Our region has produced Fidel Castro, Dr. Eric Williams, Llyod Best, Michael Manley and others. Dame Eugenia Charles, Portia Simpson etc. The major problem we have is that we are expected to be BLP or DLP. and the party leaders are elevated to god like status -they are recruiting sycophants and lackeys at all levels. Note the current situation in Christ Church West. What we have is a leader who rejects the will of the constituents; Dr. Agard does not have the deep pockets of Dr. William Duguid. Who is Duguid? Just a parliamentarian who is versed in telling his colleagues what part of their mothers’ anatomy to kiss. And I could go on- a senior attorney showing a black female colleague his back side; a speaker of the House of Assembly refusing to hand over a client’s money. That is the current status quo -it goes beyond the thirty jokers in parliament. So now COW Williams decides its his time to demonstrate white economic superiority. ” I (COW) will close Apes Hill down and turn it back into a dairy farm and employ 8 black people rather than 400. In other words I (COW) controlling ‘about here ….So we see a pattern.

  35. @ balance is that any different from how BLP supporters behave ? I don’t think that the pot calling the kettle black is anything to take seriously. Like I have said to my many friends on both sides , the two parties have done equally well and equally badly. I personally would like to see BOTH of them buried in a political grave yard , never to rise again. The sooner that happens the better for our country.

  36. @ David
Your main point about Mia is her failure to democratise the BLP as promised?
Skippa, that is one of the least of her indiscretions.

Mia is an exact female(?) replica of David Thompson. Someone whose ONLY ambition is life is to become PM, and who see it, NOT as an opportunity to SERVE anyone, but to become LORD and MASTER of all.

As Skins said so eloquently, NO ONE ELSE in local history has had more opportunities to demonstrate leadership, patriotism, commitment and love for country. However in EVERY area she has held so far, Mia has left a trail of petty, divisive, SELFISH legacies… often mixing her personal business with state business as the ultimate form of insider trading via:
    -Jose & jose
    -Arch Cot property
    -Legal services to Four Seasons
-Unknown connections to the Dodds Contractors, The Oil Terminal people…
    -the whole Prison burning episode
    -Crab Hill police station
-questions about the finances of the BLP being misused..
-The whole multi-million dollar school computerisation scam -edutech
    -ICC world cup fiasco
-Illegal bugging of Bajan’s phones with secret world cup equipment (including owing’s)
    -biting associates in unfortunate circumstances
-threats to close down the blogs…
…and now this seeming petty and personal vendetta against Maria…

Shiite man, this woman is enough to force Bajans to re-elect Froon and Stinkliar…

If the other Jackasses in the BLP can’t see this (and no doubt more) then perhaps they really are a pack of blind men in a dark room trying to catch a black pussy cat….

    Again Bushie ask of Gabriel…
On what basis can you argue that Bajans deserve any better than we are getting…?

We are reading the same tea leaves except that I have no belief in Heroes,Icons,Legends or Gods and I can dispute the so called good of all of the above mentioned by you.

The system will change only when the populace have of their own accord seen a need to do it and that has always been so.

  38. When was the last time the populace decided anything of its own accord? The populace has to be shown that there is a need for change. Giant screens may be required again, too many are unaware

  39. @ Vincent Haynes,
I never said they were perfect. My position is that if we read The Politics of Change by Manley , we see some thinking. Same with Williams and Best. Of course the work of King cannot be denied or ignored. Castro’s influence on the region and the world is accepted. Bussa is the historical perspective. Charles and Simpson are politicians and leaders of some merit. Just saying my brother. My heroes are Sir Garfield Sobers, Muhammad Ali, Fidel Castro and Serena Williams. I have great love for the Mighty Sparrow and admire the work of Mighty Gabby. I would never pretend they have no flaws. In recent years I have grown to appreciate the tremendous contribution of Sir Frank Walcott. While Sir Roy Trotman was and remains a mentor. I am not looking for gods just those whom I believe to be a bit more than what they skills allow them to do.

    You are hopeless.
As Box Cart said, “When was the last time the populace decided anything of its own accord?” …especially a populace of brass…?

It takes a SPECIAL quality of visionary, self-less leader, who is prepared to sacrifice themself and their own PERSONAL potential to accumulate wealth and fame – FOR THE GOOD OF THE COUNTRY.
In addition, they need to care enough to WANT to bring a bunch of brass bowls into the light …. AND they need to have the communication skills, patience, tact and wisdom to achieve this task…

If you look in a number of countries (like Bolivia for example,) this has happened to some extent …even where the people are no where as ‘educated’ as the local variety of brass…

You REALLY need to lay of this ‘nay nay’ attitude. Don’t mind DIW who living up in Canada under the white man’s apron…. he could afford to talk shiite occasionally…

Perhaps there is a role for YOU to consider.
Caswell and Walter can use someone kicking their backsides into action….

    LOL
Come to think of it, the three of wunna would make a good team … with Jeff playing the role of referee 🙂

  43. The oldster just cannot be bothered anymore and the youngsters could not care less. That leaves the not so old and not so young with their memories of the good old days and dreams of better tomorrows.

That epiphany shall be long in coming. Currently every manjack is too busy breaking for heself to notice the wheels coming off the wagon as it hurtles down Horse Hill.

  44. @ Caswell
    What people see what?!?
Does brass bowls even HAVE eyes…?

Wuh Boss, when someone can campaign AGAINST members of her own party in an election in a Machiavellian move to cement her own power – possibly causing the party to lose…
..and that person is not ejected.
..and when someone can orchestrate the removal from the party of a SUCCESSFUL political candidate, because same is not a hard-nose personal lackie….

…and when that ‘leader’ can CONTINUE to have the support of the other Jackasses (who must now either toe the despotic line, or themselves be ousted) what can you expect ‘the people’ to see….?

    Man woe unto us!!!
..for our collective ass is grass….
