Venezuela Guyana Dispute, Explained

The border dispute between Guyana and Venezuela has escalated to an alarming level. In response to the build up of Venezuelan troops in the disputed Essequibo territory BU read the report Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez arrived in Trinidad on 22 September 2015 to hold diplomatic talks.

The nature of the talks reported by the press is that the two countries hope to boost ‘bilateral ties including trade’.

There is a lot that has flowed under bridge stoking the dispute between Venezuela and Guyana. For those interested there are two sides to the issue. In the interest of balance BU share the following links.

    And while this military build up is taking place against a sister Caricom country, President Nicolas Maduro in at present in St Kitts, and no doubt will go on to Dominica to give his support following Hurricane Erika. Divide and rule. Venezuela can count on the support of some Caricom Countries, who have no intentions of loosing their Petro Caribe pick.
    And so starts the Caribbean’s version of the Cold War.

    Exactly!

    It is why BU mentioned the visit by the foreign minister to TnT. If Caricom has issued a statement siding with Guyana, why are individual states continuing to engage in diplomatic niceties with Venezuela? We need a fuller understanding as to the issues playing out. Many in the Caribbean, 9including the media, is ignorant to the deeper issues. The dispute goes back decades.

    From the time of the Magna Carta, through all of the colonization of the New World, and during the recolonization of the Global Village, barring the Chinese phenomena, Britain and its 5 generations removed cousins, the United States of Amurica, have continued to re-establish its tentacles across the world.

    Name me one black owned mining establishment or global manufacturing enterprise and I will show you 1,000 white ones but that is for another article notwithstanding that the same players or the Usual Suspects in those Treaties 600 years ago still feature in carving up Africa, South America and the World.

    The thing is that while “they” might not like “us” one thing that they do learn to grudgingly do is respect us.

    But it is something that is earned.

    When Mahatma Gandhi was studying law at the University College of London, a professor by the name of Peters disliked him intensely and always displayed animosity towards him.

    And because Gandhi never lowered his head when addressing him, as he expected, there were always “arguments” and confrontations.

    One day Mr Peters was having lunch at the University dining room when Gandhi came along with his tray and sat next to him. The professor said,”Mr Gandhi, you do not understand. A pig and a bird do not sit together to eat.” Gandhi looked at him as a parent would a rude child and calmly replied, “You do not worry, professor. I’ll fly away,” and he went and sat at another table.

    Peters, red with rage, decided to take revenge on the next test paper, but Gandhi responded brilliantly to all questions.

    Unhappy and frustrated, Mr Peters asked him the following question: “Mr Gandhi, if you were walking down the street and found a package, and within was a bag of wisdom and another bag with a lot of money, which one would you take?”

    Without hesitating, Gandhi responded, “The one with the money, of course.”

    Mr Peters, smiling sarcastically, said, “I, in your place, would have taken the wisdom.”

    Gandhi shrugged indifferently and responded, “Each one takes what he doesn’t have.”

    Mr Peters, by this time, was fit to be tied. So great was his anger that he wrote on Gandhi’s exam sheet the word “idiot” and handed it back to him. Gandhi took the exam sheet and sat down at his desk, trying hard to remain calm while he contemplated his next move.

    A few minutes later, Gandhi got up, went to the professor and said to him in a dignified but sarcastically polite tone:

    “Mr Peters, you autographed the sheet, but you did not give me the grade.

    Finding the equivalent of the Ghandi’s and the Mandela’s and the Castro’s and men who are non-whites in this hemisphere among this cadre of dog-shite that have the gonads to see and the vision to plan for the fallout of the British Empire “Oh Britania Rules the waves,” i quite a task given the impotent men and women of CARICOM and its mechanism of graduation that is fed by impotent Caribbean/CARICOM Member States.

    It comes down to how can a Ralph Gonzales or our own Dufus Fumble Stewart so impress a Maduro that presidents and Prime Ministers are able to forge new synergies for men who lead countries of this 21st century unfettered by the Magna Cartas of Cuntries that still see us as colonies to be raped.

    But de ole man forget that jes 3 munts ago we in Bulbados had de same “Magnum Carter” right heah fuh a munt as we school chilrun (are is reading well) were brought in to genuflect to this vestige of British slavery

    Where does the Petro Caribe gang stand in this matter? Beware the Greeks when they bring gifts. On another note, I have been unable to determine the benefits tangible or intangible of Barbados having an embassy in Venezuela.

    “The arbitration treaty was enthusiastically welcomed by the Venezuelan government, and on February 20, 1897, President Joaquín de Jesús Crespo, in a message to the Venezuelan Congress, dutifully thanked US President Grover Cleveland and Olney for their “laudable efforts” to push the British government “to accept arbitration unreservedly and unconditionally . . . in order to adjust, with greater facility and success, this unpleasant dispute of almost a century.”

    Behold the evil hand of Britain, she who bred Apartheid and has discommoded Africa, she who with 460K people held India in her grasp under the Royal Charter of the East India Company better know an the “Scion of the Rapists”

    Maduro is doing no differently though than Robert Clive who commanded the East Indian Company to destroy the forces of Siraj-ud-Daula, the Nawab of Bengal. as the former asserted his power over the Indian Sub Continent.

    There shall be wars and rumours of wars but just as a matter of interest, given the rocky relationship between Washington and the Guyana Assassination Crews of successive administrations called government does anyone think that they will be able to call on the USA for Military Support? cause wunna dun know that the guyanese army done lick up if dem start to fight with Maduro…!!

    Under de David Thompson now Fumble Stewart administration one of the critical things has been how does one reward someone for supporting the political party legitimately…Answer through mekking a cuntsulate in a cuntry where nobody dont go not nuhbosy daon come from, which doan trade wid unna causing unna ent gots nuffin tuh trade en unna black and whey it is possible to get pretty spanish girls fuh de fellows when dem going gallivanting.

    The lack of respect Venezuela is giving the agreement made all those years ago may make others question other similar agreement when Empire carved up the land in former colonies based on political and relationships steeped in incestuous motives.

    We read of Guyana sending troops to the border. This is token right? Venezuela government has invested in serious military hardware.

    How far back can we go to determine a country’s borders? Do we attempt to turn the clock back? Can that be done in any fair way? A country’s borders were an artificial construct to begin with. There was a time when there were no countries and no borders, only tribes who sometimes migrated. Who really can prove their rights with any degree of certainty? How were these rights originally obtained?

    Will the indigenous people of Venezuela be in control of the territory? Or will it be the descendants of the Spaniards who were deadly colonizers along with the British?

    Perhaps some of us are more concerned with what the government is doing for and to the country rather than the petty internal politics that occurs within parties. Who gives a damn besides the yard fowls? How does that affect the price of butter?

    David , Its not always the quantity of the hardware a nation possesses , that gives it the military advantage, but moreso , the quality of its troops.
    Blackhawk Down. Remember when the Great US of A , military was forced to make a strategic withdrawal, aka Run-like-hell , out of Mogadishu, all because of some hungry tribesmen?

    Keep dat taught in wunna mind as wunna get to de end uh me ramblings.

    Dis Guyana Venezuela conflict going to go one place and one place only – to physical combat…this is not going to be no “rumours of wars” this going go to bullets and death.

    To understand what is at stake one only has to look at the “players” in the ring and you see the face of the United States written all over this fiasco.

    A US President in the past and a US President and presence in the here and now.

    In the 1800’s it was about descendants of the Magna Carta carving our niches in the new world America/England against the Rest of Europe and then, as America took its leave of the English Throne it sought through it Munroe Doctrine to carve up a New World of its own and that included taking sides in the British Guianas…

    Fast forward past rica and sugar cane to Oil and PetroCaribe and we have an America at War with another enemy Venezuela a la Chavez, Cuba and the ebbing vestiges of Communism/Socialism all enemies to Capitalism and Exxon the child of the US.

    So the British started it with their cartographers in 1835 and the American going to try to end it via UN and ICJ rulings decided in Washington or through bullets against their Venezuelan enemy fired on behalf of their Guyanese bedmates of the day.

    Read the two COHA reports and you will see a Guyanese version that is based on an emotive narrative, one that is strangely devoid of the presence of Oil in the region under contention, oil which the Venezuelan report details and permits an astute reader an acute ability to see what is really at stake here.

    If rather when the shots are fired and you see America enter into the fray this will confirm not only who the land really belongs to but more importantly who now wants ownership of these British Guianas.

    That is why de ole man asked wunna if you evah had a guyanese wuman, dem does nevah tell you de trufe at any time, even when dem is crying, no trufe will evah pass dem lips, ON PAIN OF DEATH.
