The Guernsey-based plasma gasification company, Cahill Energy seems baffled by “the continuing objections from Barbadians” regarding the controversial waste-to-energy project, with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) [โฆ]Clare Cowan blaming ‘incredible misinformation’ for the resistance. โ Barbados Today (23 July, 2015)
Under the headline “Exposed MOTTLEY CALLS ON PM TO INVESTIGATE EXCLUSIVE CONTRACT” on page 3 of BARBADOS TODAY dated June 16, 2015, In her reply to the 2015/16 Budget report, Leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley stated: “Under a MOU signed on March 15 last year between the Minister of Finance, the Minister of the Environment Denis Lowe, the Minister of Energy Senator Darcy Boyce, and the Minister of Housing Denis Kellman, and the CEO of Cahill Energy Clare Cowan, the Canadian firm was exempted from paying a slew of taxes, including corporation tax, Value Added Tax, transfer tax, import duties on waste, tyres and other supply items, as well as export duties.”
It seems to me that Mrs. Cowan and the Minister of the Environment cannot understand the pros and quos of this infamous deal. Pray tell me, why would any company build any plant whereby the people of the relative country wouldn’t have to pay one red cent for placing the plant at the Government’s and the people’s disposal? Is this company a philanthropic one?
Methinks not!
I find it condescending of Mrs. Cowan to state that the reason they had awarded the building of this plant in Barbados is because Barbadians are the better educated of the people in the Caribbean. This statement is nothing but a means of buttering us up so that we would accept this waste of energy plant. Also, the economic situation of Barbados is at present no better than any of the other countries in the Caribbean.
If the people of Barbados do not have to spend anything on this project, who will pay for all of the free things which the Leader of the Opposition mentioned in her reply to the Budget, and to which no one on the Government benches found the audacity to refute? The Minister of Tourism, who spoke after the Leader of the Opposition didn’t even try to deny what she said, but made some statement about her not saying anything pertaining to the budget.
Mrs. Cowan sidestepped many questions about this sweetheart deal which is bound to make “Butch” Stewart green with envy. Mrs. Cowan is right in one thing, i.e. that we are educated. We are educated enough to know that there is no such thing as a free lunch. Someone has got to pay the bill. In this case however, those who called the tune won’t be the ones to pay the piper, but the taxpayers of Barbados – the people who you say won’t have to pay anything.
The Minister of Finance has “a low cash flow”, but he can afford to give away millions of our tax dollars in free water, free land, waivers of taxes, etc. for some company which we know nothing about. There are people in this country who don’t even get water on a regular basis, but still have to pay the BWA exorbitant sums of money for a commodity which they have not received. If one of these same people defaults on his/her payment I bet the water would be cut off.
How do we know if by digging so many wells on the free 27 acres of land at Vaucluse it will not destabilise the land and cause some environmental problem which would cause us to spend millions of dollars to rectify it? There are too many unknowns with this plant – especially seeing that no one is prepared to explain to the populace of this country what the real deal is. What is the situation with the state-of-the-art Andrews factory? Are we to assume that that is no longer viable? What about about all of these clean energy companies which have recently been formed?
In the MOU it states that Cahill Energy will be allowed to import tyres and other people’s garbage to be incinerated here, How come Mrs. Cowan is denying this? The Minister of the Environment stated that in 25 years Barbados would be free of garbage. Will the plant be decommissioned then if, as Mrs. Cowan stated, no garbage will be imported?
I SHOULD THINK NOT!
They are not philanthropists.
My biggest problem with this plant is the possibility of nuclear ash ending up here to be burnt at Vaucluse. We all know that the wind blows from whatever direction it pleases, whenever it pleases, and wherever it pleases so we cannot stand by and say: It does not affect me. This affects us all, and I think that the populace of this country had better get off their butts and see what they can do about this thing that is being fobbed off on us without any proper explanation.
This will be too large a burden for our children and their children to bear. The only thing that will be safe is the money flowing into Cahill’s pockets.

Politicians in Barbados have been doing more and more shiite over the years and it was only a matter of time before the pile reached a fan.
It seems that the fan has been reached.
How allegedly intelligent MINISTERS of government could fall for such stupidity…
How a PM can sit (or sleep) quietly while it gets messier and nastier…
How Newspapers can continue to be so RESTRAINED in the face of such nastiness…
How the opposition can rest on their laurels after Mia’s initial foray…..
How Bajan people can remain focused on wukking up as the saga unfolds…
The only sane answer is….
TOTAL and complete brass bowlery…..
Let us buy the explanation this plasma plant is good for Barbados, why build a 1000 plant and have to grow king grass to feed it?

I know my head hard but I cannot find one single positive for having this plant. Not even for political expediency, since this project has singularly eradicated any political credibility this government has left.Imagine a government bragging about negligible economic growth based on tourism yet hell bent on creating an ecological disaster.
Minister of Environment skinning he teet the plant will eliminate the use of landfills. The silly crapaud dont realise in order to have maintain a high level of garbage input for the plant ,they will have to resort to using a landfill type storage facilities since an overwhelming quantity will have to be imported.
Any clown can see this project cannot possibly turn a profit, even with the best of intentions. The numerous spinoff issues will simply outstrip any revenue earned.
Blasted fools.

Cat is out of the bag…! Barbadians better educated that the rest of us poor souls…! Maybe, but the rest of us poor fools have common sense of which is rare to many Barbadian especially those in power…! My view is, tell the Canadians to bugger off… They must not spoil this beauty Island…! They would NEVER dare do such a thing in Canada!

So what’s the next move from Cahill
She promised investors
Where have they gone
We have put up with her lies for 16 months
Is there a time is of the essence clause in the contract
If there is she must have breached the contract by now
In order for her to start construction in September as she stated the port should be laiden with steel and equipment
It’s a big scam and a fraud .
Prime minister please do your job and kill this unmitigated disaster.
Didn’t Cahill advise there is enough garbage in Barbados to satisfy the plant? Why grow king grass to satisfy a 1000 capacity plant? Why not aggressively adopt recycling and zero waste approaches to reduce waste over time?

550 tons a day of garbage depending on the actual CV of the garbage may give you 20to 25 mega watts output …. Take out the parasitic load of maybe 20% the out put for just garbage gasification could be 16 to 20 megawatts
That’s half the power that’s contracts for (we think )
The CIM has lots of good info on the garbage makeup how real is the 550 tons a day is a big question
SBRC must have daily tonnage numbers
Wait ! excuse me you guys still in the BU classroom debate Cahill, Well the word out is that the only thing that can stop this project is an act of GOD or the EPA,, so get this straight just turn up for the opening of the WTE plant and bring some of the garbage being wasted on BU.Oh! btw u Cahill might even pay you for it ,

You might be right.
You said “Well the word out is that the only thing that can stop this project is an act of GOD or the EPA”
I remember DaCosta Edwards saying some similar words many decades ago when he had a run in with Barrow. He said “I ent fraid uh Barrow, He can’ brek me. Only God can brek me”
We all know how DaCosta Edwards ended up. He was right, it wasn’t Barrow who brekked him.
Here’s hoping that Cahill and those who profited or stand to profit from it will follow suit

If you immoral dems think that you all can continue to rub shit in Barbadians’ mouths and tell them that it is chocolate cake……………..you dems dont know that the silent ones will soon get up. The day is coming when Barbadians will rise up and boldly say to you dems……..we are not taking this shit anymore.
Barbadians are followers………did you see how many whites came out to that meeting? Well, when the whites start to lead this movement, the blacks will follow and the dems’ ass will be grass!
What will you dems do to Barbadians who form a ring around the place and prevent any work from starting? Crack our heads and shoot some of us?
By the way, I have seen this inept incompetent minister of garbage bring any resolution to the House to transfer the taxpayers’ land Cahill is demanding that they give to them free of cost!
No disrespect to the coconut vendors, but the more I see of this Clare Clowan in the videos on BU the more difficult it is to believe that she could be the CEO of a road-side coconut stand at the side of the ABC highway.
She said โpotable water just means toilet bowl qualityโ. In fact potable water is water which is fit for consumption by humans and other animals. It is also called drinking water, in a reference to its intended use.

We might have to ask Roger M to standby with some boulders and the

I wasn’t aware that our island had become a Canadian Provence ???
The Cahill woman went to great lengths in that utube video to extolle the fact that Canada built the island and the banks here are all Canadian I was wondering why she has gone to such great lengths to setup her carpet baggers shell companies off shore in Guernsey ??
It’s not for the benefit of Barbados that’s for sure.
She is correct about one very important thing .. We are well educated and won’t be fooled by her shallow non answers
Mr PM
Please step in and whip your ministers into shape.
At 4.17 sec into the tape you see how drunk Clare Cowan was/is (I think it was Hant’s peeple who say dat she always drunk)
Her words were “What was the question…did i answer her question again??” and the telltale Jackass smirk of the inebriated, that grin which says “wunna dun know I talking Vodka Shyte doah””

Me gran chilrun does use Tommy de talking Cat and mek some real funny videos man
Dis is a comedy video dat a fellow who got dese skills would got a field day wid man dis in Benny Hill moments…
Somehow I get the impression that we as Bajans DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE POWER THAT WE HAVE and DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIGHT BATTLES.
De ole man going title this submission “the use of Paratroopers”
In the old time days, two armies squared off and charged each other and the last man standing was the winner.
The use of forces behind the enemy’s lines has turned many a war and even today becomes the modus of military action and corporate interventions through the tiefing of competitor technologies and the severity of reprisal as in the MH370 incident over the Indian ocean.
What Bajans are failing to understand is that, IRRESPECTIVE OF WHAT BLACKLIPS LOWEDOWN WANTS TO DO, if the investors cannot be found to back up the ingrunt pipedream, IT WILL NOT HAPPEN!!
So what WE have to do is to deal with the Investor Pool aggressively!!
The use of Paratroopers starting to make sense now right??
The campaign of discreditation and behind the lines forays especially when they are led by the bajan white population WILL HAVE ITS EFFECT!!
White peeples unlike we bajans DOAN back down from nuffin!!
Whereas Mia might only be able to get 2 or 3 hunred peeple to mach wid she fuh two days tops, dese buckras will do it till de COWS (no pun intended) come home!!
Cowan ent getting no WTE ASSIFICATION plant while dis section of we population is against it!!
I gine hafta give up trying to get a job at Anne Gittens at de Nation and see if dem white bajans wud like to hire me…
COW doan mind dat i did say that you madam miss Hoagie did piggsh when she did put de garbage pun dat black umman counter in de boutique in Speightstown, leh we let bygones be bygones, especailly since you bruddah got he eyes pun WTE proposals too.

As reported in the press today, all these backpeddlers are reversing so damn fast that I hope they all have rear view mirrors on their bicycles or else there could be a ‘major incident’ on the roads.
Shuffler, BCCI “Too many questions remain unanswered by Cahill”;
Donville Inniss, “Even though Cabinet has approved the proposal, it’s not a done deal….it has not yet attracted the attention of Town and Country Planning….we still have processes to go through…there should be more transparency by the Freundel Stuart administration”;
Estwick, “has not yet wrapped his head around the details…..I have not had any formal discussions (regarding water) at this stage”;
Peter Williams, Emera, “I am not aware any discussions have taken place (with BL&P)…. We considered plasma gasification several years ago…but opted not to proceed as there was no comercially proven experience”.
Starting work in September Ms. Cowan? Ahm… I don’t think so somehow.

Now folks we elected a bunch of fools to run this country. They in turn have teamed up with more fools to build a 700M WTE plant. Not one of them have expertise in this industry. We have a long track record of not being able to do ANYTHING PROPERLY!
Look around Barbados and see how many buildings that are badly in need of repairs. We are given things like a public library by a foundation with the only obligation we have is to maintain it. Look what has happened! It is now closed because of lack of maintenance. We were given a Gymnasium and it needed repairs. With NO SHAME we have gone back to the donors and asked them to fix it for us. Yet we see all kind of activities taking place there. Church services, competitions, shows etc and can’t find the money to maintain the place.
We had a sugar cane industry that has now produced the lowest tonnage of sugar ever in the history of Barbados. And we hear they want to grow grass to feed this WTE plant to burn all kinds of garbage to make energy. We can’t even grow enough canes for local sugar consumption but we want to build a state of the art sugar factory. We have sunshine all year round and yet no national plan to become the world’s leading solar producers. Yes we produced solar water heaters and remained there for decades feeling that we were the leaders in this technology while others were going ahead with newer technology.
We were one of the few countries in the world that used to grow the finest cotton and today we see farmers ploughing back the cotton back into their field because of no one to harvest it. We had a company that brought in expensive machinery to process this expensive cotton and they have all gone to rust and never been used.
Look around at the wastage of Tax payers monies where no one was ever accountable for. What a great track record we have for maintaining and producing. Will we ever accept our true limitations and do something about it?
Were the four Ministers who have signed the contract for the WTE plant present at the recent town hall meetings? They were bold enough to hide and do this but are not brave enough to face the public! They need to face the population and answer our questions. Until Bajans begin mobilizing themselves and show their distaste for what is happening nothing will be done!

A friend of mind who has been the medical fraternity in the United Kingdom for the last 25 years (after watching some of the videos) sent me this:
Alcohol is a depressant of the Central Nervous System. That means that alcohol makes nerve cells in the brain less excited, causing them to slow down. Does this surprise you? People often think that alcohol is a โpick-me-upโ experience because it causes drinkers to become more animated and less reserved. That’s because the first areas affected by small amounts of alcohol are those involved in inhibiting behaviours, which can cause an increase in animation, an increase in talkativeness, and greater sociability. But there are many indications that the brain is slowing down. Here are a few:
(1) Altered speech
(2) Hazy thinking
(3) Slowed reaction time
(4) Dulled hearing
(5) Impaired vision
(6) Weakened muscles
(7) Foggy memory

If you listen to the ramblings of the Cahill lady on u tube he says she has spent $5,000,000 dollars that’s $B10,000,000 and has paid everyone .
With $5 million paid out what was actually achieved ????
I would suggest nothing other than a waste study that is yet to be published or made public.
With no audited accounts to see how can we believe this phenomenal figure with absolutely zero to show for it.
MEClare Cowan please answer the following
1. Is the number real ???
2 what deliverables have been achieved an issued for the $$$ effort????
3. Has everyone been paid for their efforts????
4.is the $5million inclusive of vat and has Cahill collected the tax and if so where did the tax go ???
5. Or has Cahill applied for the appropriate tax exemption certificate needed to claim back any taxes incurred .
$5million with Zero to show for it either
It’s a lie or its another falsehood .
Clarity and transparency would be nice.

Al Jazeera tonight carried the story of angry local lawmakers and residents of Maui protesting a multinational trade agreement which they deemed “secretive, immoral and unconstitutional”.The protest was noisy with the use of conch shells and other noisemaking devices and took place on the beach of the Westin hotel and Spa where the Trans-Pacific Partnership/Maui talks described as controversial and complicated is taking place.
Msnbc All-in with Chris Hayes tonight carried a story of Donald Trump’s unpopularity in Scotland with the locals strongly objecting to his development of some beach front property.Trump is accused of being heavy handed in his public relations with the Scots, not to mention the unrealized promise of 5000 jobs some five years ago and which has turned out to be about 200.Hayes was quick to point out he is making similar promises in his presidential campaign and he thought Americans would be interested in knowing.
Maybe one of these networks might help shed some more light on the unanswered questions about the Cahill WTE project in Barbados
