Dover Stinky Skip
Dover Stinky Skip

BU acknowledges the effort by the Nation newspaper Editor highlighting the garbage disposal problem in Barbados. An overflowing skip dubbed ‘Dover Stinky Skip’ located at Dover, Christ Church – a key tourism location – was featured on todays front page. How the minister responsible, Denis Lowe, continues to head the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) boggles the minds of sensible Barbadians. There is an obvious breakdown in the waste collection (and disposal) system in Barbados and the buck stops with minister Lowe.

Some interesting information was shared with the public today. We learned that the National Conservation Commission (NCC), a state entity under the ministry of the environment is paying Hinds Transport for the rental of the skip featured on todays front page. Why has garbage collection in Dover/St. Lawrence Gap been outsourced to a private entity? Isn’t the SSA operating under the same ministry? Why does the ministry of the environment headed by minister Denis Lowe continue to outsource collection to the private sector if the SSA is mandated to deliver the same service? Is this a similar arrangement the SSA has with the Williams Group to provide services at Mount Stinkeroo?

Is the NCC the same statutory corporation that sent home staff claiming it not longer had the resources to keep them employed?

What is interesting is that the member of parliament for the St. Lawrence area John Boyce is also the minister of health. BU understands he is also a member of Dover Club, although nowadays he prefers to spend his free time at the Barbados Golf Club, hopefully on his time. Wasn’t minister Boyce along with minister Lashley spotted in the same area last week dutifully attending a grip and grin session with personnel from Sandals who handed over a fence to the Dover Club? Did they not spot or sniff the skip that is strategically located nearby? Isn’t it ironic the Dover Stinky Skip was located in close proximity to the new fence donated by Sandals to the Dover Club?

Something stinks alright and it is not the Dover Stinky Skip!

“Yeah there is a record and there are records come to table let ‘;s look at both……”

The records show that during the 2008 election campaign, David Thompson revealed Owen Arthur received a cheque from CLICO for the BLP and deposited it to his person account.

The records also show that the forensic audit conducted by Forensic & Dispute Services team of Deloitte & Touche LLP, into the operations of CLICO, revealed that Leroy Parris, through David Thompson’s law firm of Thompson Associates embezzled $3.33M and payments were paid by CIL on behalf of CHBL to different associates and related companies of Mr. Parris, such as David Thompson, Thompson & Associates, Branlee Consulting Services Inc., which went into Parris’ personal account.

    More records to come.

  5. @ Enuff

You must have been given one of those UWI theory degrees because the above evidence seems to be a lot of theory and not much practical for the $5 billion spent.

  6. all ac hear is a lot of sound bites and nuff DT thumping ,the same ole same ole nothing of substance to defend the ole sorry ass enviromental record of the BLP 14 year history,,please……..

here is an indisputable truth to jog your memory ,,,going as far back as 2006 ,there were more than one hundred illegal dump sites across barbados with the liz thompson as head of the environment and her sense of urgency was to start a letter writing campaign, and no doubt every body knows about her embarrassing green land nightmare
THe same environment issue that had bedeviled the BLP , that should have been resolved and contained in the past remains relevant today not because there were address previously and resolved but because they were NOT indicting and showing a large amount culpabilitypn the part of the BLP for not addressing precisely with a goal for long term resolution,
The goal for any govt is too seek resolution.. not to maintain a fluidity of the status quo and advocate a principle that only seeks short term solutions but that which is necessary and favorable to move a country forward by having aggressive and progressive comprehensive policies with goals in mind to give the highest level of priority to tough issues without a process to be selective or ” alienate ” all other issues
what the country is facing (now) in regards to environmental issues resulted from a shortage of prioritizing and past govt not having long term policies in place to implement or resolve,
THE history and record of THE BLP on the environment spelled out a disaster waiting to happen and it surely has happened,
given what one sees now it would be a mistake to trust the BLP with enviromental issues ever again.

  7. @ ac

    Wait you one too!!!!

  8. @ac,

The DLP has been in power for 6 years.

  9. Sometimes theory

  10. @ Hants

Imagine if Coco Cola almost 7 years ago changed its CEO and Board of Directors and within that time raised an additional $5 billion through debt financing and instead of showing profit each year show huge losses and no sense of direction.

Dividends are no longer being paid, in fact major shareholders have over the period been asked to put more money into the company (new taxes) and all they have to show is stock which were trading at a high before the change 7 years prior is now at junk bond status because the stock market (Rating Agencies) has lot ALL faith.

What have also been realised is that the CEO and Board of Directors are blaming the previous CEO and previous Board to the public who have also purchased shares in the company (tax payers).

Proof have also been shown that major funds have been misappropriated (false invoicing and Board members receiving kickbacks) from outside private contractors.

Does one think that Coco Cola or any company would allow this to happening with the only end in sight being bankruptcy?

  11. @Anthony
ac asked for evidence and I provided it. I know not what you speak of regarding $5b.

  14. The following is an excerpt from the editorial comment in today’s [Sunday January 4, 2015] edition of the Sunday Sun:

“The government’s political strategy since 2008 has been to shift the focus of any difficulties encountered onto the consequences of alleged of the Barbados Labour Party when in office.”

We have seen this strategy being played out on BU by the DLP’s resident representatives on this site, the AC consortium [aka Legion, for they are many].

  15. One only have to look and see how is the most active DLP parliamentarians online and that would tell you who the ACs are. its not that hard.

the DLP is a sorry bunch of jokers who are only interested in the politics of distraction as seen here by the ACs.

but this is your time DLP. keep it up ACs. Job well done.

  16. In all fairness to ac, there were also a pack of retards making the BLP look bad before they lost the government too…. aggressive, insulting attitudes, threatening people like Loverage…….
….like um is a ruling party thing – where they appoint the biggest brass bowls to handle PR…..

LOL …or maybe ac is a double agent 🙂

  17. Again for the record, you are wrong about ac and being associated with the DLP in an official capacity.

  18. “what the country is facing (now) in regards to environmental issues resulted from a shortage of prioritizing and past govt not having long term policies in place to implement or resolve……THE history and record of THE BLP on the environment spelled out a disaster waiting to happen and it surely has happened…..”

Legion would have us believe that, during their 14 years in office, the then BLP administration did not do anything to address the environmental concerns of Barbados. Legion would also have us believe the BLP’s policies are responsible for all the problems presently confronting this island. What is more disturbing is that the environmental situation has worsened during the 7 years of this lousy, incompetent DLP administration’s tenure. One can only imagine if they are given 14 years.
If we were to believe the consortium of demons, we would have to conclude that these problems are too deep rooted to be solved immediately. As a result, either this DLP administration is incapable or they do not have the ability to develop and implement the policies necessary to reverse the situation and take Barbados forward.

Come on, let’s face facts……. the DLP has been at the helm of government for the past 7 years and they have continued on the same old path with the same old theme when their failures become evident.

The DEMS first reaction is to play the “blame game”………. “Blame the BLP and their policies”, without informing us what specific policies were responsible for current situations, what impact these policies made on the society and what policies they developed and implemented to reverse the situation. Instead, the DEMS continue to make a lot of generalized rhetorical statements, while also saying “in 14 years the BLP did not do this or they did that.”
The second phase of the “blame game” is to blame the recession. The catch phase is usually, “Barbados is experiencing the worst recession in 100 years, so when America catches a cold, Barbados sneeze.”

Their second reaction is to cuss everyone who does not agree with their policies, calling them BLP operatives and other profanities. They use the forum of the constituency branch meetings to undertake this endeavor. These jokers cuss the press, columnists, VOB call-in-program moderators and callers, economists, private sector or anyone who opposes their views. Their only retort to criticisms is to tell critics “You are criticizing, but not bringing solutions.”
It is also evident the DEMS placed their bull-dogs, Maureen Holder and John Lovell, at CBC to deal with callers who criticize the government and they have infiltrated BU in the form of the legion of demons called the AC consortium to push their strategy.

Also, in this regard, the DLP and their supporters want to convince educated Barbadians [who they boast of having given free secondary education] criticism of the government is responsible for the downgrades given by the international rating agencies and for the lack of investor confidence.

However, if we judge with a clear conscience, many of us will have to agree that, by their actions this far, the DLP has refused to take responsibility for their failures and has demonstrated they do not have the ability to manage the affairs of Barbados.

  19. sirs ,why if the blp record is so pristine ,the blp operatives become so fired up and arrogant when asked to defend,\
Really asking to put to table a report which is of good standing should be a plus ,for sure it put to rest any preception which may taint or hurt the party image,
as a matter of fact a history or record whether it be negative or positive is the one sure proof that remains a fact that cannot be erased,
if the blp operatives have a clean record on the environment they should be proud to present instead of using asinine attacks on ac as a diversion.
whoever ac is should be of last concern to any one

  20. artexeres / look u should be the last one to open a new can of worms about the attacks by the dlp party on citizens, have you not heard of the times when the blp was calling to close down many bajan blog sites and the midnight phone calls and all kind of malicious threats to hurt and polarize citizens ,,look muh boy you need to pull the curtains on those talking points cause the water bucket that the blp carries stinks all the way to high heaven
Look this govt is no way perfect yeah mistakes have been made however it is hard not to point out the cause and ineffectiveness of policies by the BLP which has now given a helping hand to bring faster resolve

  21. Why did you steal and waste scarce resources Jack? Jill did you not steal and engage in malfeasance as well? Jack you obviously believe this to be so but you did it more.
