The protracted global economic performance continues to erode the economic gains made by developing countries in the last 25 years. It is evident the capitalist system which has fuelled greed and consumption behaviour worldwide has create an insatiable monster.

The current state of play in the world economy continues to confound our best and brightest. Clearly the economic model which Barbados has developed post Independence is inadequate to sustain our standard of living now and in the future. It is no accident that service based economies continue to lag those which are commodity based.

BU accepts the view that GDP is not the most sensitive economic indicator to measure performance. The reality however is that it is the key measure which international finance companies and credit rating agencies factor to assess country performance.   The Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados recently opined that within the walls of the Central Bank and the ministry of economic affairs is where the greatest expertize and knowledge can be found about the Barbados economy. Simple logic suggests there is great merit to this position. A review however of the World’s Fastest Growing Economies – Rank by 2013 GDP Growth and  World’s Fastest Growing Economies – Rank by 2013 GDP Growth one cannot help but be perplexed.

Barbados is currently raked #19 out of 40 in the world’s slowest growing economies  with Jamaica chasing at #22. The eye-opener is that Iraq and Haiti are ranked #7 and #29 respectively. It is clear that we are well on the way to hell in a hand basket.

    Is this a “gut” feeling?
I am intersted to hear why you feel so.
I want to see if our thoughts are on the same lines.

  2. Dr. Love……………………………two words explains it all, both systems are now PRINTING MONEY………………if the everything was moving smoothly, they would not need to print money, every time they do so, it is causing inflation, all prices are now inflated while the value of the dollar is declining…………..at this rate one million dollars will very shortly be worth thousands, unless something is done to arrest inflation.

That is why i have been telling those who are seeing huge dollar signs in the form of reparations, don’t be so quick to want paper money, in saying that i heard Hilary Beckles is pushing for reparations in the form of education for people of African descent, if he is indeed, i am all for it; 500 years of re-education is a fitting pay forward.

  3. MoneyBrain………………..Communism is just Capitalism by another name, both allows state control.

  4. “Unless the Lord Builds the house ( Nation, Family, etc) they labour in vain who build it. Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” ( Psa. 127:1)

Almighty God’s LINEAR timetable, for humanity, that He created (Genesis) beginning, to the END-TIMES ( Revelation) is about to end!

Within His Linear period of time, we have throughout the course of history, numerous cyclical patterns of ‘rising’ and ‘falling’ in ALL civilizations, bar NONE!

We are at the END of these cyclical patterns, and His Judgment is* already been felt throughout the nations of this Evil, world system.

Repent, accept and receive The Lord Jesus Christ, as your personal Saviour and Lord, as we ain’t see nothing yet, in terms of economic hardship and suffering!

  6. @WellWell
    Yes interesting.I do agree.
Also a major force is the different ideologies Quasi Commi Quasi Capitalist.
We are actually “at war” altho at the moment it is financial “sparring”.
Money is only a tool the real wealth is Power.
Those with the power control those with the money,if we are talking of the “Commies”,in the West we are ahead ,those with the power have already appropriated the money and have their puppets manipulating events to increase their wealth.
This in itself is an anachronism, but the money provides the veneer of “respectability” instead of just killing ,to get what they need they “BUY” it.
Which of course is acceptable. After all we are “human beings” and subject to “acceptable behaviour”
Circumstances seem to indicate that there is a very big power play that includes the Russians and the Chinese, both of which are Politically controlled
.Wheras the West is “capitalist” and motivated by sheer greed(must be, if you have the power you have the money,so why want MORE money.)Well GREED and FEAR,the fear of losing the power to another power.

It would appear that the demise of the power of the USA is the ulimate ambition or if we are lucky just an Equalling of the “Status quo”.
Whatever,Currency is the weapon at the moment.
Europe and the euro are the current victims.
Russia and China both usurped the $ for large portions of their reserves, and used the Euro, thus eroding the USA $ as the world trading currency.
Now that means a lot of $ were sold and had to be bought back..
We had massive crisis in Europe, making the Euro far lower than the $,at its inception the Euro was 1.17 to the US$ and it sank to.83 cents.
America in serious trouble ,trading wise, competitivly it was a “no contest” .Europe is a massive trading block.
You agree with me and as you will have followed, what has happened up to now.We both see that there have been “instantaneous” popular uprisings all over.
The US $ has sunk and the Euro risen, reinstating partially Americas Trading position.
    This defies gravity.
HOW does a currency rise when all the nations making up that currency are in Crisis and supposedly in serious financial problems.
(One of your instances of “when things dont look right) .
America “discovers ” it has huge “unknown” reserves of oil and can be “Self sufiicient”.
Freight rates for shipping containers rise sharply from China to the rest of the World ( Strange ZIM probably the biggest shipping line is Jewish owned).Freight can be as much as 50% of the cost of the landed product.
Cost on landed goods from China rise dramatically also,China experiences a drop in GROWTH.
A container from USA to the Caribean 10 days and 2kUS$ for a 20foot approx.
From China 10 weeks and double that from USA for freight.(it is farther also)But to drive your car from Bridgetown to St james is not necessarily double of that driving it to Fitz village.
So from China as a trader you may need 5 containers on the way from China whereas ONE from USA to maintain your supply chain.
It follows costs for useing China goods needs 5 times the financing.

    China now has massive problems.
To maintain growth, the Government instructed that huge sums were to be lent at very low % interest to the local Goverments to promote industry and infrastructure.
Which happened and now need repaying BUT the money is NOT there to repay the debt.
China recently negotiated with Australia about its most major supplier of raw materials to do the deals in Renmimbi (China Money)
Young Son Ill becomes agressive to USA, fires rockets and promotes nuclear weapons.
    China backs North Korea.
I am wondering when the shooting will start.
How does all this affect Barbados?
Look around you .making omlettes involves breaking eggs.
Power and money are inextricably linked,in any war the small guys are the losers and the only Good guys are the Winners.
We have the added disadvantage of having the American contagion.
Plus we are run by totally corrupt regimes continuously , we have nothing but ourselves and our island to look to for salvation.
We can surrvive, but we need a good shot of reality.
We are NOT the hub of the Universe,GOD is not a Bajun.
We just need to have humility.Swallow the pill and eat some humble pie ,if we are to surrvive we must become a closed economy or as close to self sufficiency as possible.
Dump Caricom. Let the Trinis pay for what they want to send here,we got very little to sell them anyway.Pick our trade partners as it suits us.
What is the trade Imbalance ?
    Anybody know?
    Get some Honest Governance.
There is going to be a Hollacaust,we cant “sleep” this one out .

Sorry “Money brain” there I go rambling again. 🙂

  7. Dr. Love……..i can’t remember who said it, but i vaguely remember it being said that world war 3 will be a financial war……….

  8. Dr. Love………….the US always knew they had a vast amounts of oil in Alaska that could last the country well over 100 years, wanting oil from other sources is tantamount to greed………………a case of holding on to mine and using up all of yours so when yours is done, i will be the only one to have any.

We also understand China’s strategy of being allowed by African leaders to move into Africa, with that countries limitless resources, China has it made.

  9. @Hants
Was reading your submission and saw Solar and Wind.
    I did think as you.
I was so taken with the idea I actually started to “GoGreen”
    What a shock.
Its a con, another trick to seperate you from a whole bunch of Grantleys.
Would you beleive that a body can spend an average of 35,000 US$ for a system that will give a normal house with normal consumption an uninterupted supply and that the life of the system at 90% operational ability is 10 to 15 years and after drops to 75% or less .Dependant on how well a body has cared for the system.
That batteries can defunct after as little as 3 years if badly used (run flat and fully recharged often) and anyway last 10 years .then have waning power down to 50% loss.
Which means you got a 35 grand US$ system working at half way point.
Your wife puts on the aircon and ZAMMO in darkness and YOU GOTTA get it sorted.
3500 ayear ,didnt seem so good a deal to me.(Without maintainence and specialists assistance)
Have you actually tried it on a long term basis.?
I just wanna make sure I am on the right track.

The chips can be wiped clean if required ,.

  14. David…………..Loblaws Canada has agreed to compensate the families in Bangladesh, have not heard what H & M, Walmart, Gap in the US will do yet, it’s unconscionable.

Dr. Love………………….look at the bright side, the US does not pretend to be a saint, they let the devil in themselves show at full blast.

It’s all about control…….the pay by fingerprint created by students at one of the universities in the Dakotas is now being used in England, they started last month……….control.

  15. @Dr Love while you were writing your drivel about having my dick in my hand I ironically was enjoying some afternoon delight with a sweeeeeeet piece of woman, then a good sleep before an early dinner.

Your comments about my financial ability are facile. You dont have any detailed info about my strategies, risk controls, quantities of money under my control etc. BUT that did not stop u from exposing yourself.

  16. @WW
Your points about printing money are correct BUt the velocity of money in the actual economy is at a record low. It is entirely probable that we will first encounter Deflation before inflation. The next War ie the money War has already started with the desire of several countries to stop using the US$ for international trade in commodities.

  17. The theory of value is at one and the same time absolutely mythical and illusory, false and unreasonable. Therefore, there is no where on this earth that GDP makes sense.

  18. Moneybrain……………..i heard China was trying to convince Australia and other countries to drop the US $ when it comes to commodities trading, let’s see how successful they are with that little scheme.

Regarding focusing on $$$$$ it is the lefties that focus on how to distribute OPM, other peeps money, so they can encourage societal failure. They are on the correct track in that regard, until the honey wagon crashes and serious social unrest is fomented. Lefties like that because they know the only way to defeat an Incentive Based Economy is to ruin it by whatever means eg Forbes in Guy and Manley in JA were masterful exponents, too bad the peeps were much worse off for their effort.

  26. Dr. Love and MoneyBrain………….what are your thoughts on hyperinflation?

  27. Interesting article –

Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 165,000 in April, and the unemployment rate was little changed at 7.5 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment increased in professional and business services, food services and drinking places, retail trade, and health care.

The unemployment rate, at 7.5 percent, changed little in April but has declined by 0.4 percentage point since January. The number of unemployed persons, at 11.7 million, was also little changed over the month; however,
unemployment has decreased by 673,000 since January. …

The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for February was revised from +268,000 to +332,000, and the change for March was revised from +88,000 to +138,000. With these revisions, employment gains in February and March combined were 114,000 higher than previously reported.

  28. @WW
The gargantuan quantities of money created are not sloshing around in the real economy as many think. The velocity of money is at new lows so most of the money is sitting, propping up Bank Balance sheets. If the economy starts to grow at decent rates and the Velocity increases then serious inflation would ensue, unless the Fed is able to vacuum excess money out of the system. Could be a very slow process as many people have been worrying about the Bond market for 4 yrs+ and yet Bonds have not crashed or started a long decline. BTW we are 33yrs into the secular bull and the record is 37 yrs so we could still have time left.

  32. @ Zoe
Wait skippa…..you still bout here…? Everyone thought that since the last edification that you received here on BU you had gone into retreat – to reevaluate your ‘Trinity’ fairy tale nonsense, …and to try to understand why Jesus deliberately misled his audiences by using parables.

…anyway that retreat would have been a waste of time. The only thing that can help you has been labeled by you to be a “person” as opposed to the powerful spirit (the very DNA characteristics) of BBE.. 🙂

So you have a problem with Bushie’s expectation of joining the BBE clan? ….ah wonder why bozie? You may not have noticed, but throughout your bible this recruitment is proclaimed over and over….
LOL…of course you know that is one of the reasons that Jesus was crucified…. This ‘nonsense’ of him walking around claiming that he was the son of God…. Even worse, he claimed to be the FIRST BORN among MANY sons of God….whom he referred to as his brethren. …No doubt you know the many bible references better than a lowly bushman, but a few that comes to mind are:
    ——-
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
    ——-
    “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God; and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ;
    ——-
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren
    ——–
I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High….Psalms 82:6
    ———
And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father
    ———
Jesus himself (whom God certainly foreknew) surrendered his Godliness, became a man and provided the role model, (as firstborn or ‘begotten’ ) to be followed by many brethren….and bushmen…. 😉
His has been a role-model of humility, love, forgiveness, faith and righteousness.

Perhaps you can see it in your heart to forgive Bushie for not conforming to your church’s trinity-driven reluctance to believe the simple message that Jesus brought.
But most of all, …ah beg yuh…don’t crucify muh…Bushie can’t tek that kinda bashment (otherwise the bushman would be by Islandgal all like now so…)

  33. @Moneybrain
I hear that you have the ambition to have a New Psychiatric Condition named in your honour??

  34. @WellWell.
    Hyperinflation:
At the moment as long as USA is the “prime mover” interest rates will stay at 0%approx.They dare not let them rise as that would be the last “nail” in the USA coffin, they owe too much.(Among other reasons)
Hyperinflation Yes ,but further down the line.If the financial system holds together.
    Not a worry as yet.
I think more about what happens when the financial systems collapses, and the following total anarchy.
Law and order disappears and if you are bigger and stonger than Moneybrain, you just kick his door in and take what he has .:)
Inflation, Stagflation,Deflation Hyperinflation are all part of a system.

    Hi Zoe,
    Nice to hear you.
Glad you are back; was wondering what had become of you.
Did you go on one of your many all-inclusive jaunts to Hell paid for by the naïve gullible church congregation?
You certainly did not visit Heaven since you would require a special visa issued by Bush Tea to visit his BBE home in the sky and, of course, the vital entry fee required.
The entry fee is sine qua non and must be paid in the form of a transmogrification from a living Christian fundamentalist fanatic to a rigid mortis state of being.

BTW, Zoe, one of my Raelian compatriots told me she knows you from before when you lived during the period of the Ram (Aries) 3,800 years ago and Father Abraham was your pagan Jesus. Is that true, or is he mixing you up with Egyptian Jew man Moses the bull slayer called Taurus?

We should not dismiss the serious ramifications implicit in your statement.
If the existing economic conditions continue to get worse the Bajan dollar could have a lower parity to the US$ than the T& T dollar.

It would do this country a world good to get rid of its own currency and Central Bank and use the US dollar as the currency of exchange. All trading transactions would be denominated in US dollars and all foreign exchanges controls should be eliminated.
The Central Bank serves no useful purpose in a modern “free-enterprise” oriented economy.
A division of the MoF can take over responsibility for issuing and replacing currency notes that need to be phased out overtime as electronic payment options come on stream and enjoys wider acceptance.

  46. MoneyBrain………………Isn’t that something………..wow!!

  47. Miller……….that is certainly forward thinking.
