Jeff Broomes Should Beg for Forgiveness

Submitted by Mahogany Coconut Think Tank/Watch Dog Group

Jeff Broomes, Principal of Alexandra School

From the very beginning, Mahogany Coconut had determined that Mr. Jeff Broomes should have been separated and or fired from the post of headmaster at the Alexandra School.

We need to root out professionals such as Broomes from all positions they hold in the public sector and quasi government organizations. They are the bad apples that rotten the whole barrel.

Everyday thousands of: teachers, firemen, policemen/women, sanitation workers, soil technicians, maids, parks and beaches workers and others, go to work and execute their tasks with great pride and gratitude.

However, we have hundreds of professionals such as Broomes, who with devilish accuracy, spend their time behaving like laws unto themselves, usually with the direct support of the decadent party system that now invades our beloved island state. These BLP/DLP yard fowls and assorted sycophants are bigger and deadlier threats to Barbados than any downgrade from Standard and Poor.

We at Mahogany Coconut knew that once  Alexandra’s linen was washed in the public, Broomes would be exposed for the egotistical person he had unfortunately become. We at Mahogany Coconut have been pained to take this line, on a man who was once a leader and highly respected member of the Barbados Union of Teachers. Jeff knew the way that workers/teachers should be treated. He chose, for reasons best known to himself, to bring public shame and dishonour on not only Alexandra School but a profession that he once used his considerable skills to protect. Such professional and trade union treason cannot be allowed to go unnoticed.

He shamelessly attempted, during this entire heart wrenching episode, to hide behind the students, pretending that he was their main protector. Those who fell for such blatant public showmanship should by now realize that the children were mere pawns.

We therefore endorse the suggestion/ advice given by Mr. Patrick Frost, the long standing Teacher-trade unionist, and ask our fallen comrade, Broomes, to resign and save himself, his family, friends and the Alexandra school from further humiliation.

With great pain and regret we say: Go Now Jeff and may those you trampled find that their supply of forgiveness has not been exhausted. We hope they forgive even if they can never forget.

  1. Welcome back GP! CAPS AND ALL!

    @amused, tackle, yardbroom and check-it-out

Good summaries and analyses. Waterman became officially “compromised” during redman’s testimony. Broomes’ rebuttals (and glowing words of admiration for the people who want his head, lol) have made it difficult to find a clear case for separation or removal (without shipping out the chairman and teachers as well that is). Smith and McCarthy clearly have set up a case for appeal, injunction and even lawsuit. Methinks this was the plan from day one. This week should be an interesting climax.

Caswell, a few legal minds tell me that the COI’s reccomendations WILL not MAY, be acted on with haste. Any thoughts given your view that said recommendations aren’t necessarily “binding”

More of the mess to come. Looka life.

By the way, does anyone actually see this entire process finishing by the start of the term? I think not.

    @ac
    Consistent as usual.

“Smith and McCarthy clearly have set up a case for appeal, injunction and even lawsuit. Methinks this was the plan from day one.”

And who will be footing these humongous legal bills? If you think that the $598,000.00 is enough to cover the final legal costs of this CoI you are in for a shock that even the wannabe RC (King Counsel) Hal G would find outrageously off-putting.

What will the legal fraternity do when the queen leaves us rather soon?
Continue to be mimic men and women in awarding QC status as partisan political largesse and be the laughing stock of the world?

  3. Really counselor you think that broomes is above the law and some said evidence brought in to the inquiry can not be brought to bear against him in a civil lawsuit as civil rights violations. yeah let you or broomes try cutting any my siblings hair without permission. let you or broomes try denying me the right to full salary on pretense of giving a him a so called letter of absence after he gave me approval. look counsellor the rest unintelligible B/s you mustered up to write i will ignore. Now THERE you have it .

  4. IGNORE Amused

Just as bigoted as GP , looking down your noses at people. I HATE YOUR KIND !
Just like the Commisssioner saying that : “you are up there and they are down there”

And again I repeat –this is the reason why we are where we are at as people. Bigoted ignorant sons of Bs WHO THINK THAT THEY ARE MORE inmportant than everybody else.

They are it and everybody else is shit

AWAY WITH THAT NASTY ATTITUDE. DOWN WITH THE attidude of people like Amused , GP and the COMMISSIONER

Who do you think you are –Gods ???

    JUST ASKING

  5. @miller
The figure I heard at the start of the inquiry (not 500K) did indeed shock me. A few weeks hence I’m now beginning to understand that this may to prepare for post-commission fallout.

“Waterman became officially “compromised” during redman’s testimony.” I wouldn’t go as far as that, but there are some grounds for the thought.

“Smith and McCarthy clearly have set up a case for appeal, injunction and even lawsuit. Methinks this was the plan from day one.” As a very astute counsel, which I strongly suspect you are, would you not have done the same thing? In Barbados especially, would you have placed any reliance on the system working as it should? I think that Smith and McCarthy have done what they need to in order to protect their client. In fact, they have built a very strong court case indeed. Hats off to both. Beautiful work.

@millertheanunnaki | August 26, 2012 at 10:58 AM. Don’t get your extremities in a twist. If matters arising out of this go to court, unless there are criminal prosecutions (which I must admit are highly likely) the costs will be borne by each side in any litigation(s). It would not fall on the taxpayer, unless it is the MoE itself that is sued. But that could only happen if the MoE fails to take the correct action. HOWEVER, I agree with you that the estimated and advertised cost of the COI is, shall we say, optimistic or unrealistic. VERY!!

  7. @ JUST ASKING | August 26, 2012 at 12:55 PM |

I tend to agree with you! It shows utter contempt for the “man in the street” who by the way is being fleeced to pay for the pappy show.
An arrogant attitude of former colonial masters now being displayed by people with chips on their shoulders and racial identity challenges.

A supercilious remark totally out of place in a modern Barbados still wrestling with “class” issues reinforced by an educational apartheid system.

  8. @ JUST ASKING

    QUID DIXI SCRIPSIQUE, DIXI SCRIPSIQUE.

WE ARE WHERE WE ARE BECAUSE SOME OF US WITH OUR MORONIC MOUTHINGS HAVE FAILED TO PRACTICE JOHN 7:24 JUST RIGHTEOUS JUDGEMENT AND NOT BY THE APPEARANCE1

JESUS WAS SAYING THERE THAT YOU CAN NOT ADJUDICATE WITH OUT THE FACTS! THIS FAILING HAS BEEN PERPETRATED PERPETUALLY ON THIS PAGE BY MANY, WHO HAVE BEEN MAKING THE MOST RIDICULOUS STATEMENTS ABOUT BROOMES, WITHOUT KNOWING THE FACTS!

SIMILARLY, YOU DO NOT KNOW ME, AND YOU SEEK TO PONTIFICATE ON MY CHARACTER., BECAUSE YOU THING YOU CAN DEFLATE MY WORDS WORKS OR WORTH WITH YOUR DRIVEL

HERE YOU ARE AS ONE OF THE VERY LOWLY EQUINOIDS EXPRESSING THE CHARACTERISTICS OF YOUR BREEDING. NO ONE IS LOOKING DOWN ON YOU, BUT YOU ARE DEMONSTRATING THE TRAITS OF YOUR ORDER AS A JACKASS.

JUST AS AN ORANGE TREE EXPRESSES IN ITS PHENOTYPE BY ITS GENOTYPE, YOU ARE DEMONSTRATING THAT HAVING INHERITED THE GENES OF AN ASS, YOU ACT LIKE LIKE AN ASS AND TALK LIKE THE ASS YOU ARE!

    • Based on Yardbroom’s query of yesterday we are pleased to advised information and is currently being compiling with the assistance of BU legal.

Amazing stuff, should be ready around dusk.

  9. @ Dr. GP

Welcome back. You are a breath of fresh air. What language! I did not realize how much stimulus my brain was missing on this blog. I mean, BushTea helps, but you are la creme de la creme!. lol.

p.s. I like the caps, my eyesight is failing as is my hearing.

  10. ac:

There is no reason under this sun nor moon why the MOE did not take action. You will never be able to find any.

If this was a private company the parties in rift would be fully aware of consequences and would have had discussions or be suspended pending investigation.

Regardless of whom you favour, be unbias with procedure. I agree with GP there are times when rules have to be broken but in this situation here NO WAY nor WHERE was it applicable!

  11. PAT
PEOPLE WHO WENT TO SCHOOL IN THE SIXTIES USED TO READ——AND SO WE ACQUIRED A VOCABULARY.[ WHICH WE CAN USE FOR FUN]. WE CAN CUSS PEOPLE WITHOUT DESCENDING TO THE GUTTER TO USE WORDS WITH NUMEROUS ORIFICES ! LOL

OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS I HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING WITH BILATERAL CATARACTS AND THE CAPS EMERGED. FOLLOWING SURGERY THOSE FLOATERS THAT EMERGE HAVE ALSO BEEN A CHALLENGE.

I HOPE THAT YOU ARE STILL GARDENING AND THAT YOU WILL HARVEST A GOOD CROP AT THE END OF THE SUMMER.

YES I AGREE…YOU CANT BEAT BUSH TEA FOR HIS LOGIC OR YARDBROOM FOR HIS PROSE!

  12. Just Asking:

Think about it!!! Only knowledge of picking pond grass and then you have a strong desire to run the country. Where will your next step be? Would you go to the stand pipe to learn language?

Isn’t it time that you light your candle for us to see. At least with GP we can SEE and he can SEE so yuh know wuh dah is effective communication … wha yuh gine bring nuh .. bring something of value, substance and educate and elucidate your friends, family and enemies on BU.

If you do not understand what the Doc says google, hey it is 2012 you are not using a typewriter nor manuscript to tell us what you will. go google and lift your chest in the air.

Criticize your ignorance and continual ignorance which seem to have you in stupor.

  13. @GP
Calling Islandgal! Calling AC! How did you get away with describing the women who lock horns with Broomes as “post menopausal grannies”? Then Amused back you up by describing them as “old hens” and “old fowls”.

I am just about to go out but when I get back the fireworks may be in full swing.
    Murdah!

  14. Miller et al: Buenas tardes! Que lastima! Que es la problema consigo?

Because you do not use your knowledge, abilities and skills why try to stifle others from using theirs. If I speak Bajan only with children will they learn English other than written.

Here is the perfect forum AX … same thing being lived out here at this time as there for nearly ten years. You oppose the man’s style and start to use condescending words to provoke him to anger.

Now, with that said can you explain what you understand by the posit of GP. If no … read it again – stop addressing the person’s style and ability to utilize his education in a forum where we can talk bajan. Address the issue.

If I can understand – hey so can you. Noone here is trying to put down another. STOP implying it.

Again to you and those who oppose GOOGLE. Learn something else even if it is obsolete, I am sure that Onions could share a book where the language is used and would be current to describing the DLP.

  15. @ Brief | August 26, 2012 at 3:59 PM |
I will be brief with you and definitely to the point.
Look Brief my criticism was not with GP’s style of writing because I know where he is coming from.
It is in relation to a set of remarks made in the Ax CoI; and Not to anything said by bloggers. I believe that is just what “Just Asking” was alluding to.

Unless you wish to sympathize or even empathize with the sentiments expressed in those supercilious remarks then you need to read between the lines and find the gist of my statement in light of class ridden Barbados with its snobbish school ties and certainly not in harmony with the Christian principles so often espoused by GP, and yourself at times.

  16. MILLER
JUDGE WATERMAN”S STATEMENT WAS WAY OUT OF LINE
AND EVEN IF WE WOULD AGREE WITH HIM THAT SOME ARE UP THERE AND SOME ARE DOWN THERE, THERE IS A NEED FOR THOSE UP THERE TO LIFT UP THOSE DOWN THERE….SINCE ALL OF US WERE SLAVES A FEW GENERATIONS AGO

THAT IS WHY WE HAVE BU
BEFORE BU EVEN THE EDUCATED DIDNT EASILY HAVE A FORUM TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES

NOW WE CAN ALL EXPRESS OURSELVES. SO PERHAPS WE COULD LISTEN AND LEARN FROM OTHERS

LOTS OF THINGS ARE SAID ON BU THAT YOU WONT HEAR ELSEWHERE SO WHEN THE EXPERTS ON POLITICS TALKING I LISTEN WHEN THE LAWYERS TALKING I LISTEN ETC ETC AND O I GET UPLIFTED

BUT THERE ARE SOME ON BU BECAUSE THEY HAVE A PC THEY COME SPEWING BOVINE EFFLUENT INSTEAD OF LISTENING AND LEARNING

WHEN BUSHTEA BREWING TEA I SEE IF I COULD DRINK SOME
I WANT TO LEARN TO WRITE PROSE LIKE YARDBROOM

AND FOR THOSE WHO DONT KNOW ME I AM ONE OF THE COOLEST CHAPS AROUND

DEFINITELY NOT STIFF AND STARCHED AND POMPOUS
MY MEDICAL STUDENTS JUST LOVE ME CAUSE OF THAT
    I MAKE IT FUN

    SARGE
TWO YEARS AGO I WONT HAVE GOT AWAY CALLING THE TEACHERS MENOPAUSAL GRANNIES BECAUSE THERE WAS A HOTTIE ON THE FORUM WHOSE NAME I FORGET NOW WHO WOULD BE RUNNING ME RAGGED!

  17. Amused wrote ” cook for a long, LONG time”.

That is a methodology that would NOT yield optimum success.

Most Bajans know that the best advice would be to cook the old hens with green papaw.

The women on BU would know better what to do with a old fowl cock.

  18. @david
looking forward to your report since this issue was deemed the “smoking gun” of Broomes’ wrongdoing.

    @amused
compromised may be a bit strong but his objectivity is and since then has been called into question.

    @all
i see nothing wrong with occasionally “pitching marbles” with subordinates as long those subordinates and all others know to buck up, toe the line and follow the rules once the marbles are done? Are we that segregated, stuck up and self absorbed that we cling to these positions of power and position as if position really gives us position and power?

especially in this day and age of human interaction and human relations driven organisational behaviour?

    Just observing.
