Opposition Leader Owen Arthur (foreground), Dale Marshall MP

There is a biological, as well as a scientific explanation why ‘senior citizen, 63-years-old Owen Arthur’ is always picking at Mia Mottley and Christopher Sinckler and why he (Arthur) feels DLP Parliamentarians are “poor-rakey:” ‘youth!’ They are “YOUNG,” for the most part.

“Ephebiphobia” is the fear of young people. That is also your explanation why 63-years-old Owen Arthur’ feels that spending money on football is a waste. Football, for the most part, is played by young people and symbolises youth, vitality and energy.

“Leader of the Geriatric Brigade,” Owen Arthur, at 63-years-old, is a senior citizen, who does not understand; forgets easily and does not connect with the youth.  That is the dilemma for him.  As a matter of fact, it was only quite recently that the country knew that Arthur even had children. And for that, David Thompson and his “Family First Programme” must be credited.

Today’s society (like the youth) is fast-paced; loves football, car racing and is into technology. It would be surprising if Owen Arthur can even send a text message!  Essentially, Owen Arthur has to slow things down to his significantly reduced paste, as a result of a combination of old age and ill-health. The majority of the society finds ‘Owen Arthur’s SNAIL-PACE,’ seriously frustrating and frankly, a big-turn off, especially in circumstances where the country can do much better and has a lot more energy. His allegation that being an Economist gives him an edge is over-rated as it only serves as a reminder that he is yesterday’s man.

Despite him being an Economist, Clico happened, so too the millions of indebtedness for the building at Warrens.  Let’s face it! Given the amount of money floating around then (even with a man being paid $90 million a year) a lot of what he claims credit for – would have happened despite whoever was Prime Minister at the time, especially since the foundation was laid many years earlier by Tom Adams.

I guess you could say that Owen Arthur is a cranky old man, who is a serious diabetic and a known alcoholic; who forget things and has an extreme dislike of youth; young people and football, Chris Sinckler and especially Mia Mottley.  Now we know why: “”Ephebiphobia!!!”

  10. Arthur Now Wants to Be Worshipped but Economists still hurting the World Avatar
Arthur Now Wants to Be Worshipped but Economists still hurting the World

Owen Arthur is tired but he is not a liberator! He is a reminder of, the global financial crisis, which is the handy-work of Economists as well as a reminder that all across the world, Economists continue to create confusion and cause innocent people serious pain. Week-after-week, you can expect to hear Opposition Leader Owen Arthur criticising Finance Minister Sinckler. You should ignore it because it is intended as a tactic to distract you.

The intention is to get you to believe that as Minister of Finance, Sinckler is advising himself on economic policy. He is not but there is a good reason why Owen Arthur does not want you to know that! This highlights the selfishness (near unethical behaviour) on the part of some Economists, especially those who are behaving like cult-leaders, hoping the society would worship them. Owen Arthur is one such person!

To the detriment of the world and society in general, Economists contributed immensely to the global financial crisis, which is still causing you; your family; your neighbour and everyone you know – severe pain and hardship. No two Economists can ever agree on anything but one thing is clear: what works for an Economist – will most certainly work for a non-economist because Economists are known to create more mess than they solve. Anybody who was Minister of Finance during ‘the-glory-days’ Owen Arthur was – would have secured the same or much better results for Barbados because with all of that money floating around, were he a prudent manager, Owen Arthur would never have left so much debt for Minister Sinckler and the DLP to repay.

It is true that with Thompson as Minister of Finance, the DLP pursued a high-tax-regime. But that was ONLY because the Economists that were advising him, feel that high taxation, as a deliberate economic policy – would depress demand for goods and services, which in-turn, would reduce the pressure on the balance of payments. In Bajan: if you tax a man a lot, he will buy less and since goods are imported, you will not have to spend a lot of your foreign exchange since, with commodity prices on the world market low anyhow (and tourism spend down) you will save foreign exchange. If you see a flaw in that thinking then you understand how Economists are so easily able to screw-up the world. Not everything you buy is imported, but high taxation attaches.

Essentially, Economists advised Thompson and are now advising Sinckler to pursue a high-tax policy to dampen demand! That approached, as advised by Economists, is clearly not working – but to save face, they are telling the DLP to stay on the current path. And you know what, despite the global financial crisis and a much worst one around the corner – for some strange reason, people still trust Economists, even though they are the ones who are creating the mess all across the globe!

This is why Owen Arthur feels that you will believe him, even if he tells you crap. So he tells you that it is Sinckler and the DLP (and not the Economists who are advising them) who is responsible for the unnecessary pain you are now feeling.

My Fellow Barbadians, your pain is not being caused by the present Minister of Finance or the DLP, it is being caused by the “ECONOMISTS” who are advising our Government. Arthur knows this but to tell you that – will make you very angry with Economists and he is one. By blaming Minister Sinckler for the pain you are now feeling, Owen Arthur is protecting himself and his colleagues who are trained Economists and part of an elite club. I know what you are thinking: but Economists advised Owen Arthur too! That is the point! And it explains why Barbados debt rose significantly under the BLP, even when money was floating around. Economists are dangerous and Owen Arthur is one!

  11. WOULD you know your place ?

  12. @Arthur Now Wants to Be Worshipped but Economists still hurting the World

I always thought Economics and finance were two separate disciplines. Anyway, based on your argument, a neophyte Minister of Finance being advised by ECONOMISTS is even more dangerous!!! lmao

  13. Owen Arthur - The Man That Was Avatar
Owen Arthur – The Man That Was

Owen Arthur is not the same man he was 14 years ago. He does not have the energy; moves a lot slower and even repeats himself. A neighbour, who was there, told me that Owen Arthur tried to raise five different issues during a speech he tried to give and a BLP crowd said: “we hear that already – Mia Already talk bout dat – tell us something new man!” Owen had nothing new to say and as I was told, he said: “I come this evening to officially launch the BLP general election campaign.” That was on June 5, 2011: elections are due in 2013.

But even 14 years ago, when it was alleged that he was performing well, Owen Arthur had a lot of help: there were billions of dollars floating around, hence ‘foreign direct investment’ in abundance. A Minister of Finance then – had the option to refuse any investor he wanted, there were so many! Today, Arthur has to keep his doctor (Jerome Walcott) close, so too Mr. Hardwood, for his expertise, which Arthur will find very useful, if he gets another bite at the cake. But Arthur is now a shadow of himself!
Even the pants he wore are three sizes too big now. It is not difficult to see that he has also lost considerable weight. Looking shaky does not tell half the story! His health has deteriorate significantly, resulting in serious weight-loss; he is a lot more frail; he does not remember things, he is a lot more grumpy and gets angry, a lot easier and while the entire world and Barbados has changed and moved-on at a brisk pace, Arthur still thinks it is 1994.

It was a pitiful sight to see him two budgets ago. He was all over the shop and seemed incoherent – white spit at both corners of his mouth’ like a mad-dog. I agree that Minister Sinckler and PM Stuart “D’SKINNED” him! In the recent budget, he was so disorganised – shuffling through papers and disjointed. It was embarrassing! It is understandable why he does not want to let go! He now fathers children he always had from several different women but kept secret. He went through a bitter divorce and compounded by medical bills for his serious diabetes and hypertension – he is now literally broke. One last assault on the Treasury will set him right and that is why he desperately wants to become Prime Minister and Minister of Finance again, at any cost and regardless of what deals he has to make.

This is a man who in the 1990’s – when cost of living and inflation were not issues – told the country that politics for him is a painful exercise and too difficult as burden to carry. He made it clear, then, that he could not live on the salary he was getting. Think how it is for him today, given the children he now admits are his, the cost to keep other women silent from coming forward; then factor-in the cost of a bitter divorce that left him near bankrupt and now with serious expensive medical bills to pay. Owen Arthur is “yesterday’s man trying desperately to connect in today’s fast-pace and constantly changing world.

There is something else! At no time can it be said that Owen Arthur is totally in-charge of his mental faculty because he is constantly under medication to calm him; medication for his hypertension; medication for his diabetes and other medication (no doubt which) Jerome Walcott knows about. So, in today’s Owen Arthur – you could have a Minister of Defense who is under the influence of drugs – even if prescribed but on a sustained basis. Now! If not the BLP – surely Barbados can do better!

The only way Owen Arthur should be allowed anywhere near Bay Street, is if (as Leader of the BLP’s Geriatric Brigade) his destination is the Geriatric Hospital.

Look you idiot. There is no evidence, NONE, that the medicines prescribed for hypertension and diabetes causes mental problems.

And remember when you cuss people who take medicine for hypertension and diabetes you are cussing 25% of the population of Barbados, and the parents of another 25%.

Do you really feel that you should cuss 50% of the electorate?

How will that help your cause?

Don’t all the current patry leaders and aspiring leaders have diabetes or hypertension? Didn’t David Thompson have pancreatic cancer (and Lord knows what else)

@ Owen Arthur – The Man That Was:

Why are you so caustic in your personal attack on OSA. This vendetta is not called for. You have pointed out that OSA is sick, frail looking and incapable. That might be true; and as such you should show a bit of sympathy. Diabetes can have deleterious effects on the human body, both physically and mentally. I also feel OSA is burnt-out – not because of his age- but that he gave his all during his terms in office. He has nothing new to offer and should step aside gracefully. But what is amazing is that the so-called young, energetic, “brilliant and smart” bunch running the show are unable to move the country forward. Their inertia can also be seen in areas that have nothing to do with the bogey man called “International Recession”. Many promises made in the manifesto to improve governance, democracy and further empower citizens on whom the country has spent billions of dollars educating and up-skilling have been thrown through the window.

If you are going to criticize Owen do it based on his performance and current inability to run things; not his private life. How do you know OSA is financially broke or he is a philanderer; unless you were one of his quarry?

    RANDOM THOUGHTS

    “the parents of another 25%.”

Not so long ago you wrote,
“Nabody ain’t studying da head worrying about Mia’s parents. All of us who are parents understand that the day you decide to become a parent is the day ya have to mek ya back broad enough to take some lashes”
You really expect we to study Mia’s old people?

We don’t care one way or the other.”

Parents meant nothing to you then, now all of a sudden they are important to you?

    You seem confuse.

For a person who neither supports B nor D you are doing a splendid job defending the corrupt Barbados Labour Party.

  19. In an earlier article entitled: ‘Pre-determined Outcome – A Party of Deals,’ I made the point that ‘if you thought last year’s Annual Conference (2010) was the most rowdy and disorganised in the BLP’s 73 year history – then this year’s promises to be the most pre-determined. I added that it will be a political non-event and went on the say that ‘those attending should not expect any buzz or excitement.’

Nothing has changed and many are still saying that the BLP’s 2011 Conference should really be cancelled, especially since there will be nothing new to report: The BLP does not even have a full slate of candidates; the promised public meetings are yet to get off the ground (despite that party having launched its general election campaign five months ago now; the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) never met and even though the BLP alleges that: “Bees Ready,” that party does not even have a functioning Shadow Cabinet.

Owen Arthur is old; tired; has not new ideas and really did not remember any of this. In the recent budget, the DLP (through Minister Sealy) reminded the country that the Public Accounts Committee (under Owen Arthur) is yet to meet. Pressured by these facts; running out of time and driven by his own witch-hunt agenda, Owen Arthur has hurriedly arranged a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to throw red-meat to the base of his party (as a distraction tactic) but more so because up to this point – he has nothing to report at his party’s up-coming annual conference. Arthur is simply being blinded by Mia Mottley’s glow and is therefore desperate and dangerous. While he is engaging in political trivia and irrelevance and pulling silly political stunts, Mia is doing remarkable things for the people, while coming-up with innovative ideas, effortlessly.

The Nation newspaper (now functioning as an executive arm of the BLP) on Sunday (October 2nd 2011) announced that Arthur has selected the Pierhead Project for a probe by the PAC, which he chairs. The question is: should Arthur be allowed to use people’s time and a State entity, to go after people (Bannister & Darcy Boyce) long-time friends and some to whom he has given lucrative government contracts, like the prison and a sweet-heart; multi-million deal to construct an oil storage facility and the Coast Guard facility? Shouldn’t Arthur be the one being investigated?

Barbadians have not made the error yet and made this man Prime Minister and already he is hunting people whom he believes, have crossed him. In this personal vendetta and one-man-lover’s-quarrel and under the guise of acting in the public’s interest – Arthur is expected to abuse his power as Chairman of the PAC and summon people like Darcy Boyce, Lawrence Bannister; the present Minister of Finance and others, to give evidence and seek to embarrass then.

Why should such a ‘kangaroo court’ be permitted? Is such a personal vendetta and witch-hunt, using the State apparatus, ethical? Why no inquiry into “hardwood,” or “JAWS?” Why no inquiry into the serious concerns expressed by Rawle Eastmond in 2010 about voter padding and why not a word from him about electoral fraud within the BLP? I feel that somebody should really file an injunction preventing this sort of ‘distraction tactic and political stunt” Owen Arthur is attempting to pull, as regards the Pierhead project announcement.

Because, as Political Leader of the BLP, who is turning blind-eye to corruption – Owen Arthur has no moral or ethical authority to call no probe into the Pierhead or anything else. Why is there no probe whether he used the office of Prime Minister to raise funds for his wedding or to pay for his divorce? We are talking about a man who made a deal to be Leader of the Opposition and Political leader of the BLP, yah know! He who is seeking equity should come with clean hands – CLEAN-UP THE BLP FIRST!

Owen Arthur does not realise that government contracts are not his to give, neither should they be given by him with the specific intention to buy permanent affection, worship and social-class acceptance. Why is he so angry that the country is moving forward and people are making it without him, as Bannister and Boyce are showing him? Arthur cannot deal with that! Secondly, using the PAC to investigate the Pierhead Project is an admission that Arthur already knows that he cannot win the next election for the BLP. He is therefore hunting people “NOW” when he is Opposition Leader and Chairman of the PAC.

    @ Owen Arthur’ Witch-hunt:

While I agree that Owen needs to focus on repairing the damage he has inflicted on the BLP and has reduced his party’s chances of winning the next general elections I can’t agree that he should let the marina project of the hook. Your thread implies that both men with surnames beginning with B were involved in suspect dealings with Owen when he was in power. So Owen knows the character and proclivity of his former partners in underhand dealings at the expense of poor unwitting taxpayers. Can we assume that such nefarious activities have followed the quisling DB to his present position of the man with the knowledge of how to cover your tracks in fraudulent contract awards and his outside point man doing the dirty business.

So you want us the stupid taxpayers to put up with this wholesale thieving of our hard earn money we gave the government to use for the betterment of the country and not to be misappropriated by crooks posing as professionals and consultants.

We want all of them involved to be called before the PAC. We will then get everything out in the open. B & B can then squeal on Owen. We wonder where Dr. Thorne and his colleagues of principle stand in all of this?

  25. @anthony…

Unfortunately I don’t clearly understand Greenverbs when he speaks. I am sure that many people would side with me on this one. But I am not denouncing the man for his limited vocabulary. I am questioning his integrity as a business man. We have no reasons (none so far, at least) to question COW’s business credentials and actions. As far as we know Mr.
Williams has not openly and deliberately swindled his fellow Bajans. If you know of an instances let the BU people know. Your hearing is much better than mine when it comes to COW’s verbal deliveries. What I usually hear is a very strong Bajan accent embellishing his presentations. You claim that Mr. Williams is “WHITE”. What are you insinuating? Why introduce race into this matter. They are good and honest whites and blacks just as they are dishonest and crooked whites and blacks. What’s the point you are making? Is it a racist one?

Greenverbs might be a pal of yours and hence you have every right to defend him. But do it in ways that explain, justify or excuse his managerial competence and financial acumen. Or is it easier to attack me.

Please note that I am a mugwump. I wear no political stripes. I have no axe to grind other than wielding the cudgel of fair play and justice. Don’t aim your political arrows at me because they will be missing the target.

I can take that one about the canning factory as a valid criticism of COW. That was very poor management on his part and he should be asked to compensate the small investors for this downright incompetence. He is now in a position to make good his misdeeds.

Everything was in place and the environment was ripe for such a venture which was well marketed and promoted with a potentially good management team in place. That project should have acted as a major fillip to local non-sugar agriculture and saved Barbados a lot of forex in the long-run. Has he ever told Bajans the reasons for the failure of the venture?

As for the other 2 gentlemen mentioned, I don’t know what you are on about. Maybe you are referring to events that occurred during a time when I was not around. But I’ll be happy to know because I know both gentlemen; one dead and the other living in JA.
