Owen Arthur, Leader of the Opposition (l) Mia Mottley (r)

This anonymous contribution pre-empted BU’s blog on the subject of alleged financial infelicities which occurred under Mia Mottley’s stewardship as Leader of the Opposition, BU withholds our posting for the moment.

About ten days after running the most disastrous campaign ever ran by any leader of the BLP in St. John, a bitter Owen Arthur who was rejected even by BLP supporter, is seeking to do damage control but succeeds only in destroying Grantley Adamsโ€™s party even further. In short, Owen Arthur is a national embarrassment and disgrace, who is obsessed with his public approval rating!ย  Time was when BLP members and supporters trusted Owen Arthur and his judgment but it is clear that a lot has changed since 2008 and he only has himself to blame.

No one expected that he was capable of putting so many thousands intended as campaign contribution, into his personal bank account unknown to anyone in the BLP. There are also BLP people who stop you on the road daily to tell you that the taxpayersโ€™ money was not Owen Arthurโ€™sโ€™ to help-out a friend,โ€™ even if that friend was in a tight spot.

There are two things that are not in dispute.ย  One is that under Owen Arthur, the BLP is fast developing an image as a party, which is anti-women.ย  If Owen Arthur is giving you, that seems alright but if as a woman you can make it on your own, then you immediately become a target for his unprovoked and caustic attack.ย  Mia Mottley, Andrea Power and Mara Thompson are three of many examples.

The second thing which is not in dispute is that Owen Arthur is a tired, lonely and bitter old man who desperately wants power.ย  Because of his serious love of himself, he is cranky and terrified by the notion that there can be a Barbados or even a Barbados Labour Party, without him.ย  This is a man who made it clear to Barbadians that his sole aim in politics is to ensure that the DLP never becomes the government again.ย  His intention is to orchestrate a rescue mission of himself as having been called to save Barbados.

The very man who is said to have gone to Parliament less than six times between 2008 and October 2010 is now being reported in the Sunday Sun of January 30th 2011 as having said: โ€œI donโ€™t want to appear as though I am fighting with Miss Mottley…I am trying desperately to hold the Barbados Labour Party together.โ€ Mind you, Owen Arthur is talking about a party that has been in existence for over 72 years and had giants within its ranks like Grantley Adams, Tom Adams, Henry Forde, Cheltenham, Louis Tull, Bree St. John, Mia Mottley and Billie Miller. Wasnโ€™t the BLP united before Arthur and his โ€˜gang of fiveโ€™ ousted Mia Mottley in October 2010, which started the fast free fall to mistrust and confusion?

What does it mean when someone says: โ€œthose who are part of the partyโ€™s platform should step in sync with the party?โ€ Should Mia Mottley have joined Owen Arthur and those on the platform in the St. John By-election who told the country that Mara Thompson was โ€œunacceptable,โ€ and that she was an โ€œaffront?โ€ Should Mia Mottley now join with Arthur and others and criticise the DLP weekly for the sake of criticism? That is what this issue in the Sunday Sun is about: a seriously wounded Owen Arthur now seeking to do damage control!ย  It shows the level of desperation on his part to be relevant and to grab headlines.

It is a desperate attempt by an embarrassed and seriously wounded Owen Arthur to create a distraction tactic to get the spotlight off him.ย  After promising BLP members that in order to win, they only had to make him leader, Owen Arthur cannot deal with the humiliating rejection he got in St. John, even at the hands of BLP supporters.ย  During the By-election, it was also quite noticeable that Mia Mottley distanced herself from the unproved attack made on Mara Thompson by Owen Arthur and other persons, who like his style of politics and as expected โ€“ spurred him on in his wrong doing.

In contrast, it was not surprising that Barbadians on both sides of the political divide as well as those in the middle โ€“ felt that Mia Mottleyโ€™s two speeches were dignified, mature and responsible, whereas two regional Prime Ministers expressed shock and total disgust at Owen Arthurโ€™s un-called-for attack on Mara Thompson.ย  Owen Arthur keeps finding himself on the wrong side of public opinion.ย  But what could you say about a man who called a Media Conference on the very morning that Prime Minister Thompson died!

It is not often that the region sees in Owen Arthur, a man who has fallen so far from grace in a mere three years.ย  Now realising that he continues to be an embarrassment to the BLP and a serious turn-off to the electorate, despite saying that there is a clamour for him, Owen Arthur has started on a renewed mission to seek to pull down and destroy Mia Mottley and ever other woman in Barbados he hates.

His is the behaviour one usually associates with a drunkard and a bully who engages in the most reckless acts and when spoken to, go home and take out his frustration on his family.ย  This is yet another in a never-ending-series of unprovoked attacks on women, especially Mara Thompson and Mia Mottley.

First he told Barbadians to find her โ€œunacceptable!โ€ย  Then he tried to make her look childish by stating at the Partyโ€™s Conference: โ€œMia the BLP needs you.โ€ย  After calling for healing, he sent a letter to the Clerk of Parliament asking for an investigation into his baseless allegation that files were missing from the Oppositionโ€™s Office. And now, yet another attempt to suggest wrong doings, as regards funds left in an account.

Is the information, which was leaked to the Nation Newspaper, suppose to downplay the fact that Owen Arthur is known to have put thousands intended as campaign contributions โ€“ into his personal bank account โ€“ unknown to any one in his party?
Why an investigation into the account being mentioned in the Sunday Sun, where (it would appear that) funds were used to advance the work of the party but not an investigation into the charge made by the Parliamentary Representative for St. James North, Rawle Eastman – as regards why someone paid the party $560 for 56 delegates he (Rawle) knew nothing about?ย  Why not an investigation into why the Womenโ€™s League (headed by the very woman who is now Arthurโ€™s Personal Assistant) was able to cherry-pick 210 delegates, when no meeting was held for that purpose?ย  Why no investigation into why under-aged persons, as well as person who are said not be members of the BLP – and never made any application to join โ€“ were down as delegates to votes for George Payne?

Does this leaked report in the Sunday Sun, has to do with plans being cooked at the highest level within that party to discard two women: namely Mia Mottley and Cynthia Forde?ย  Is it true that plans are being made to de-select Cynthia Forde and replace her with Clyde Mascoll; to deselect Arthur Holder and replace him with Rudy Grant; to de-select Rawle Eastman and replace him with George Payneโ€™s cousin, Douglas Skeete and to de-select Mia Mottley and replace her with Ralph Thorne?

The issue is Owen Arthurโ€™s insecurity and the speedy rate at which he is turning off even die-hard BLP members. Owen Arthur does not like what he sees when he looks in the mirror.ย  He is a lonely and empty man who is searching for peace and desperately needs help.ย  Because he is bitter, he feels that no one else should be happy.ย  Despite presiding over a dysfunctional family he has manufactured in the last four years, he remains empty and bitter.ย  The only thing that can cheer him up is he becoming Prime Minister again.

Mia Mottley is right!ย  Ignore Owen Arthur, remain silent and do not get into a brawl or spitting contest with โ€œyesterdayโ€™s man.โ€ But: Exactly how did Owen Arthur reach this stage of thinking that there can be no Barbados without him?

Remember BU has harped on that interview which Arthur delivered in his first press conference after his defeat. It gives an insightful to how Arthur feels about Mottley, little has changed since his utterance.

    @Crusoe

Yes and no. If there is a public perception that the BLP is disunited on the leadership issue to compare with Mascoll/Thompson for example it will not be close.

    @anthony

Let us agree to disagree but as always air your view.

  2. Prophets with big bias must be feared, especially when they are on people’s pay list or are buddies in a group with special interests. And for you who are wishing all kinds of evil things for Owen Arthur just go and look in your own backyard if you have one and take care of business there. Only God knows what lies in the future. We never thought David Thompson would have expired at this time. Stop your petty vendettas and wicked propaganda.

By the way you should not forget. The facts are there. Whatever you say Owen Arthur is the most accomplished of the present crop of Parliamentarians. If it were left to you Nelson Mandela would have languished in prison or when he came out you would have put him in a wheel chair and left him to die. Ronald Reagan would have been disregarded a joke and told that the Presidency was not for him.

Peter Wickham you are not God. You should stick to your research and be a professional. Stop your meddling. You have gone overboard now. And what makes you an authority over people’s lives. Live yours to suit you. Live and let live!

I understand the political agenda of Party propagandists but Peter has crossed the line now. He should stop using his pen for personal vilification. If he has no sin let him keep throwing stones.

You wrote, “BU has taken the decision to use the cheque to highlight the need for campaign finance legislation”.
Well, I have news for you, the legislation is already in place. The problem is that neither of the political parties pay any attention to it. Candidates are only allowed to spend a maximum of $10.00 per elector in his/her constituency. That means if there are 8000 people registered to vote in a constituency the candidate can only spend a maximum of $80,000. All expenses must be declared in accordance with Section 52 of the Representation of the Peoples Act.

An MP can lose his/her seat for over spending. The problem is simple, there is no mechanism in place to review the “Return and Declarations as to Election Expenses” forms submitted by candidates.

So David the law is already in place but is observed in the breach. Do you really believe that candidates honestly declare the costs of all those posters, elaborate platforms and radio and television advertising.

  4. @Caswell

Thanks for the clarification, perhaps it would have been stated by referring to the pending integrity legislation which would put the MP under some pressure to be ethical in all financial transactions.

Suppose the obvious question is why would successive governments not put the ”mechanism you referred to in place. On second thoughts don’t answer!

  5. Cheque This Out : WARNING!
The Woman of Barbados will defeat OSA and the BLP in the Next election. Absoulte Power corrupts Absolutely! that Barbados cannot afford.

  6. What is “wrong” with Mr James Paul and Mr Kenny Best? Along with Mrs Mara Thompson and Mr Hamilton Lashley, these are the only Members of Parliament on the DLP side that are not Cabinet Ministers. Imagine a DLP administration with 19 ministers and 3 Parliamentary Secretaries. Does anyone else remember the DLP’s criticism of the BLP over the size of cabinet (18 ministers and 2 parliamentary secretaries) ?

  7. Apollo 13
My post ref saint David and Mother Theresa redux was laced with sarcasm. As for internal report leaking and factions–wrong person, am not even a member of the party.

“This is the opportunity to remind some living on Mars that the world is grip in a recession.”

What the world recession got to do with bad policy decisions? Stupse

  8. @Pong

    That is a good observation.

  9. @enuff

Do you believe it is an easy exercise to determine what is bad policy making in the current recessionary environment?

  10. I can’t believe that in a recession where Barbados is finding it difficult to recover from that the first major step my P.M has taken is to increase his cabinet, yet he is breezing with little to do, typical Stuart. It seems the fishing agreement that David Thompson said could have been settled over a bowl of wanton soup is brewing up again, this time Kellman has pulled stumps, blame someone else.

  11. For what it is worth having a woman leader does not translate into protection and advancement of women’s rights. Check the work of Henry Forde and the fact that Owen elevated more women than any other Prime Minister around here including the same Mia Mottley who should be thankful she got this far so soon under the leadership of Owen Arthur. Now she can’t wait! Owen must know something that we don’t know. Trust his judgement and that of the elected members who backed her at first and then changed their minds. They should know what they are protecting her and us against. May be she just aint mellow yet!!! Let us get on with the business at hand.

Apollo My Friend, I have reposted below, your comment of January 31, 2011 at 11:01 AM. But let me first make a few comments of my own.

[1] Your remarks demonstrate a slice of DLP activities that constitute the most DISGRACEFUL SET of occurrences in Barbados Politics in the last decade, and I wish to keep this particular posting up front so that DLP DIMWITS like CARSON CADOGAN, AC, may eventually make a relevant comment.

[2]TO MARA THOMPSON,(or her loyal subjects) when HARTLEY writes your next speech, make sure that he includes some information on YOUR JOINTLY-OWNED HOUSE IN MARTINS BAY, PURCHASED IN CASH BY YOU AND FAY PARRIS [Leroy’s wife] FOR NEARLY A MILLION DOLLARS(CLICO FUNDS?). ALSO give us some information on THE FAMILIES FIRST ACCOUNT ALLEGEDLY USED BY YOUR HUSBAND DAVE TO RECEIVE AND REDIRECT MILLIONS OF CLICO DOLLARS FOR ELECTIONEERING PURPOSES ETC.!!!!!

[3] DAVID OF BU, I find your position on demanding accountability from the DLP VERY SUBDUED and a tad MIND-BOGGLING!! Here you are moderating a popular BLOG, and you seem so intent on demanding certain standards from the BLP, while you almost turn a blind eye to alleged unsavoury happenings in the DLP. How can you feel comfortable by accelerating in a biased and strident fashion, every little rumour and spin propagated here by DIMWITS like CCC ET AL against the BLP, BUT WHEN IT COMES TO THE DLP, YOU MAKE SILLY REMARKS like “You may well be correct unfortunately, BU canโ€™t speak to it.” That’s what you said to APPOLLO WHEN HE SUGGESTED YOU SHOULD ALSO FIND OUT HOW MUCH MONEY WENT into FAMILIES FIRST account from the coffers of CLICO, SOL and JADA before YOU ASSIST DLP BLOGGERS TO ATTEMPT THE HANGING OF Owen Arthur, THE MAN THEY FEAR SO MUCH.

DAVID, LET ME HEAR YOU AND SOME OF THE DLP BLOGGERS ADDRESS APOLLO’S STRICTURES CONTAINED IN HIS POSTING REPEATED BELOW:

“Appollo 13 | January 31, 2011 at 11:01 AM | The DLP campaign was run out out the FAMILIES FIRST ACCOUNT. I know that for a fact. Every cheque was signed by David Thompson. Also the people behind the Vyz Cartel and Movada concert was FAMILIES FIRST.

So if FAMILIES FIRST was the account for the election which David Thompson alone controlled, tell me who is now responsible for that account with all the millions of the policy holdersโ€™ money. Is this account now under the control of Mara as certainly it would be part of Thompsonโ€™s estate now?

Leroy Parris leaked that info to David Thompson but looked how he looted CLICO with his own company and he gave Thompson millions for years. During Miaโ€™s no confidence debate, the Bees asked the Thompson and the Dems how much they got from CLICO if Owen got $75000.00, none of them ever answered.

So dont talk about a cheque to Owen. David Thompson is dead, so Mara has to answer about that FAMILIES FIRST account with all of CLICO, SOL and JADA money. David Thompson get all the money and put it in this account which only he controlled.

I heard Johnny Tudor say that he asked for a donation from a business, he dutifully told David Thompson, he made the arrangements to pick up the cheque on a particular day. When he got there, the donor told him that David Thompson had just picked up the cheque. The treasurer of the DLP told him that the cheque was never turned into the DLP.”

  13. @ david

Of course, here is one. How your Chairman of the Transport Board in his first public speech highlights the Board’s deficit in an attempt to castigate the former government, yet a policy that help increased that deficit t0 $48million is implemented? Tell me what the recession had to do with that.

  14. @Truthman Burton

That’s fine, we are use to attacks. Do a search of the many blogs BU has posted about FOI, Integrity Legislation, Ethics and morality in public etc. The sad thing is that these same blogs never attract any serious comments. It is only in the case of political expediency yours are the comments we get. BUs position remains, put a case!

  15. @enuff

Are you saying implementing a policy to create a safety net for the poor in hard times is a foolish policy?

  16. David | January 31, 2011 at 7:43 PM |

    @enuff

Are you saying implementing a policy to create a safety net for the poor in hard times is a foolish policy?

David didn’t the welfare board already provide bus ticket for those in need ?

  17. @anthony

Yes there is still a policy at the Welfare, one designed for exception handling rather than addressing a broadbased policy position.

  18. David

The welfare bus tickets were based on NEEDS ASSESSMENT….no? Every school child now has access to the free bus rides and that’s why it is a poor policy. What the recession got to do with the highway debacle?

  19. Enuff
How can 11 million dollars spent on poor people be considered an ignorant policy. That is the difference between the DLP and BLP as put forward by Hamilton Lashley and why he left the BLP. He said that the BLP did not care about poor people.
There are so many quotes that Owen Arthur made about poor people that Hammy would have to be right.
As David said you are not interested in the integrity and FOI legislation because you never discuss it. You are all anxiously waiting to get back in power to become more millionaires.
    Les talk about foolish policy.
Owen and Mia did not listen to the prison board when they were saying it was waiting to explode. Did nothing and let the prisoners burn down the prison. Then go and get a company that was involved in fraud in Alaska and never built a prison yet and built a $700 MILLION PRISON. Now we have to pay 30million US every January as part of the loan. Do you know how many jobs that can create?
DIG a big hole in Greenland and not a piece of garbage can go there. Over 50 million spent.
Started edutech and spent over 400 million and the schools are like a computer grave yard now.
That is your savior at work.
Borrowed and borrowed for a rainy day to fulfill your quest for this luxurious living all of the time living in fools paradise.
The DLP may feel the effects of your ignorance but one day coming soon the people of Barbados will recognized that Owen Arthur was no savior but one who set us up for a big fall.
None of the parties can save us from this deep recession that is taking root again.

  20. @ Charlie
If the BLP made 1million bad policies, the Transport Board one (which costs more than $11m) still makes no sense and I maintain it had nothing to do with the recession, as was David’s thesis.
And if I were you I would not use H. Lashley to support your argument, the man was the first ever Minister of Social Transformation. Go ask UDC who approved the ackee tree job for $17,000, who is the contractor MP and friend, how many trips to the dump the same contractor billed for compared to what was registered in the log book at the dump; or who is the MP that rented table cloths, plastic chairs and popcorn machines from a business and then wanted UDC to pay the bill.

This is exactly the kind of response I expected from you David … and I got it!!

Don’t characterise my questions to you as some ATTACK. THERE IS NO REASON TO ATTACK YOU! YOU ARE COPPING OUT …. DEAL WITH THE ISSUE I HAVE PLACED BEFORE YOU!

True , you may have previously posted some innoccuous statement about morality, integrity legislation etc., but how about you directing right now, a question to the DLP, ENQUIRING IF IT’S NOT TIME FOR THEM TO LEVEL WITH THE PEOPLE OF BARBADOS AND TELL THEM EXACTLY HOW MUCH OF THE POLICY AND ANNUITY HOLDERS’ MONEY AT CLICO ENDED UP IN THEIR GENERAL ELECTION CAMPAIGN FUND.

HAVE YOU EVER ASKED THEM THAT QUESTION DAVID? WHY DO YOU INSIST ON HAMMERING OWEN ARTHUR AND THE BLP ABOUT A PITTANCE FROM CLICO, YET YOU NEVER ASK ONE DIRECT QUESTION OF THE DEMS ABOUT THE MILLIONS THEY HAVE RECEIVED?

It is this unfair and unbalanced state of affairs on this blog that concerns me. It’s an insult to our intelligence.

  22. Hi David and a pleasant New Year to all fellow bloggers.

  23. @Royalrumble

    Happy New Year to you!

    @Burton

As always you are welcome to submit a view.

  24. To tell the truth David what has gone on in the BLP prior to and subsequent to the removal of Ms. Mottley has been so offensive and โ€œunBLPlikeโ€ that I am too shame to speak. How can a man to whom a party has given so much now seek to single handedly destroy it with such an unbridled determination and a profound sense of self imposed importance, is a question I have failed miserably to find an answer?

You know David it is not Arthur that made the BLP but rather the BLP that made Arthur. Every one of our leaders since the birth of our great Party was great leaders. Arthur did not find a floundering party in fact the BLP has always been a government in the waiting. It is my firm belief that had Sir Henry Forde and others not give way for Arthur to become Opposition Leader, he would have been just another politician who served in Parliament. It was that decision that gave him the opportunity to make a name for himself and for the rest of the world to see his worth.

Arthur now behaves as though the BLP is his to do whatever he likes. What a sad day for the Party.

  25. @David
The arthur bees are out in full force. However you are not their biggest problem; Rommel is proving to be Arthur’s biggest problem. Is it not a thing that the same rank and file membership that does not have a say in choosing the BLP leadership, is now being called on to rain in Rommel and whom ever is contesting Topping? What a thing!

  26. @Royalrumble

Some of us are concerned about current efforts or lack of to reconcile the party. The reason is obvious, our governance system requires it.

  27. As far as I can remember the free bus fare was an attempt by government to get the school children from using the mini-buses and especially the ZR vans. It worked for a while but soon the children were back on the vans and only use the Transport Board buses to joy ride FOR FREE. There is a regular pattern to see many school children pushing against paying passengers to board a bus, just to disembark only two bus stops later and no where near a school but just to wait on another bus to do the same thing, they have become a nuisance. Additionally, the behaviour is pathetic, fights, rude conversations, abusive language, you name it, you get it on these buses with non-paying school children. This has forced a couple friends of mine to purchase their own vehicle, then the Board is saying they are losing money, they MUST.

  28. Owen Arthur is a lucky man, he happen to be in the right place at the right time. First, his crying and threat of quitting politics at a time when the BLP was at its lowest and Henry Forde was on his way out. Secondly the immaturity of the DLP that caused the voting public to vote against the DLP in the early 90’s, hence making a virtually unknown Owen Arthur the P.M. It was the good job he did in that firsat term that the voting public overwhelmingly rallied around him that made him feel overpowerful. It was in that period, the ” going with Owen” that many jokers, including Rommel Marshall got recognition by hanging on to his coat tail. These and Owen’s own arrogance was him main bugbearer during him third term, additionally the fact that bajans have NEVER given a party, including Barrow’s DLP a fouth term. To say that Owen never did anything for this country would be hypocritical, even as a DLP supporter. One must remember that during the period of the BLP regime, the DLP was still fighting, first, over the Sandiford affair, then the Thompson, Mascoll affair. I often say thanks to Owen for not calling elections during the period when Thompson and Mascoll were at war and the party was split down the center, remember the mouthings of now P.M Stuart, David Estwick, Denis Kellman and to a lesser extent Denis Lowe. Therefore, as I predicted a place in the cabinet had to be found for Denis Kellman and I further predict that David Estwick will become the Deputy P.M whenever Stuart breaks his silence, I hope the other members would be matured eniugh to accept his decision, if not that can be detrimental for the party so close to general elections.

  29. @Royalrumble,

Good to see you back on BU and a pleasant new year to you to.

You supported Owen Arthur, defended him and attacked his political enemies. That is politics and the way democracy works.
I am wondering if this is the real Royal Rumble.lol

Owen Arthur thinks of himself and not the BLP.

Barbados needs two strong and vibrant political parties. Let us hope Owen & co. limited do not further damage to the BLP.
We need a good opposition. lol

Not sure what you meant by “strong,” but the constitution provides for one member of the opposition; in addition to this we have had two periods in our history were they two and three members of the opposition, and our system did not fair any worst.

  34. Two questions for David at BU. A blog just after the budget speech suggested that the Minister Chris Sinckler would have been brought up on libel or slander charges by one A.A.A. Any word or developments there ? Secondly have you ever in any way brought censorship to any posting by Truthman Burton ? He is articulate and certainly can advance his FACTS about Clico or Bico for that matter.” Dimwits” on this side stand ready to answer . Talk about copping out should be answered this way . “He that buckles beneath the weight , now questions the calibration of the scale” . For once I am in agreement with many of the posts here and especially Royalrumble, Adrian Hinds, and David. Arthur’s public statements and manouevering over the past 3 to 4 years have become detrimental to the BLP’s chances whenever elections are called. Those who lack vision, the capacity to critical reflect on all that has occurred will blindly support Arthur; the time has come for a more progressive outlook for both political parties and for Barbadians to truly have a say in what they stand for on principle and where they want to go. Arthur is not a spent force by any stretch of the imagination, but in my mind, he has brought the BLP to an all-time low and therefore he cannot or should not be offered a free rein to do as he pleases and to silence who he chooses. I am sorry, I will fight him on that because I put the party’s interests second behind the national (peoples’) interests. The final option is to walk away from the party I love and have defended its usefulness to Barbadian society.

  36. I wonder if people in this country are contemplating what really is ANGRY Rommel’s MOTIVE for going up to St.Joseph.

Is it really to provide “proper representation” for St.Joseph as he is suggesting?
Is it in support of the party of which he is supposedly still a “loyal member?” [Hardly.]

    OR

Is this his idea of taking out revenge on Owen Arthur for firng him from the Cabinet? [Why was he fired anyway?]

Is it because he clearly is a member of the MOTTLEY faction?

Is it that since he sees no political future for himself with Arthur as the leader, he has opted for Mottley, that perchance she rises to the top, he smells the excitement of the opportunity to be back with a ministerial salary, whether elected by the people or appointed by Mottley?

Is he intent on this deranged, this maniacal behaviour to demonstrate that he is more of a credibility-vacant, political humbug than Hammie Lashley, seeing that he [marshall] has skipped about four times from party to party over the years, and now seems apparently ready to join a new one on the horizon?

Who really does this “little caesar” [as Jeannete Layne-Clarke use to call him] thinks he is?

So tell me rommel, which is it? Is it to “serve” the people, get a nice piece of desparately-needed change in his hands, or get revenge on ARTHUR?

    *********************************************
I thought we had exhausted commentary on this MASSIVE LIE that the PRISON WAS BUILT FOR $700 MILLION DOLLARS, and unashamedly given currency by the Central Bank Governor Dr.Worrell. The prison was NOT built for $700 million dollars, and it suits the DLP propagandists to keep repeating this LIE. Another thing about the new prison is that the independent committee who selected the company was headed[?] by Darcy Boyce, DLP Gov’t Minister, who also gave the strongest recommendation and vote of confidence during the selection process.

  38. Brath
Tell Mia that her every word uttered since she was tossed out, has been recorded and will be use by me and others to hold her to account for, should she come to the fore of the BLP or a new Party. It is not going to be about Mia, Owen, Mara, or any poltical personality any longer, it going to be what you stand for and more importantly what you achieve out of those positions. No excuseS for not getting it done.

  39. Owen Arthur has never said that there is no Barbados without him. This is just DLP propaganda to deflect attention from the REAL ISSUES in Barbados.

Owen Arthur said on Sunday that the increase in bus fares is illegal, the selling of petrol by Transport Board is illegal, the appointment of Arni Walters as executive chairman of BWA is illegal, the manner in which the Dems are appointing a CJ is illegal but not a word from the relevant ministers.

We seem to have gotten use to these low standards from the Dems.

On VOB news yesterday, we heard that Dennis Kellman is now the substantive minister of Drainage and that Mr Lowe is now a minister without portfolio. What utter nonsense! Poor Kellman had to wait until David Thompson dead to get a cabinet position. And Thompson was such a saint. Are the taxpayers to be paying Dennis Lowe to relax at home when it is reported in medical circles that he may not be able to return to work? Now in the House today, Lowe has applied for three months leave. Just like David Thompson, MY FAMILY FIRST.

I find it passing strange that Peter Wickham would be defending Mia Mottley. But this is a ploy by him to help keep the Dems in power. To win the next general election, the Dems need Mia to be the leader of the BLP.

I well remember how he used to lambaste Mia on VOB especially when the government won the fishing dispute case against Trinidad. Wickham carried on the “economist” scruffy when he called in and then Mia called in and Wickham tried to beat up on Mia asking if the cost so called victory merited so much money but in her true inimical way, she took him to task.

The election is over, January 20th is gone. Deal with the issues confronting Barbados like the out of control fiscal deficit, high unemployment, high cost of living, CLICO, fishing problems now with Tobago, crime and violence.

That shot at Minister Sinckler was obviously a warning shot.

To your other question, no censorship of Burton by BU.

“The final option is to walk away from the party I love and have defended its usefulness to Barbadian society.”

    That is a principled stand.

However we should not forget that Barbados has developed to almost first world status under two parties.

Nothing wrong with having a third party but allowing an egomaniac to divide and rule the BLP is wrong.

I remain a DLP supporter for life but really an truly I en nuhbody.
Just a ordinary Bajan who got to shovel snow tuhmorruh .

  42. The word of choice is BLUFF. It was called and will be again .

  43. @Hamilton Hill

Understood but you should never underestimate those who control the money trail.

  44. Now that Kellman has been elevated to the cabinet and has relinquished his post as Ambassador to Caricom, will he be writing a report on his stewardship during that period and what is he expected to say were his achievements on the fishing agreements with T&T? Now we have a P.M with limited portfolio and a NEW Min. without portfolio at a time when the economy is at it’s lowest and many bajans are worried about losing their jobs. It seems that fat calf David Thompson spoke about still has some size, only thing fewer people are sharing in it. I’m looking forward to see the next card P.M Stuart will play. I’ve seen the BLP with two fractions fighting for survival, are we going to see the Stuart fraction vs the Thompson fraction looking to take charge of government, I thought the man in charge was too relaxed but it seems he is playing the sniper game.

Your question to me does not deserve a response, obviously you’re blinded by partisan politics. Ask your friend Peter Wickerham to do a survey and ask that question, then you would get a more accurate answer than mine. Politics Do need people like you.

  46. Apollo13,

Is that a freudian slip to say that Mia destroyed Peter in her own INIMICAL way? Do you mean INIMITABLE?

“To win the next general election, the Dems need Mia to be the leader of the BLP.”

Owen is trying hard to remain relevant, but he is a spent force.
So it makes not the slightest bit of difference whether he is at the top or not.

The Democratic Labour Party has beaten Owen twice in the recent past. Owen is on his hat-trick. I think what you BLP members and supporters need to do is to leave him let him achieve goal of being beaten three times in quick succession by the Democratic Labour Party.

    Why deny him that?

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++

“How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth? ”

Quote attributable to another Sir Arthur!!

  49. Yes Hant this is the real Royalrumble. These days are spent reflecting on the sad state of affairs within my Party. I know our members can not feel good at what Arthurs is doing to our Party.

I might get in trouble for this statement I am about to make but I feel I must make it. Could Arthurโ€™s behaviour be as a result or effect of what happens to poor black people when they taste power and wealth? He seem not to know how to readjust to the life of a simple ordinary citizen.

I am convinced that this political monster we have created for ourselves will not be put to sleep very easily. I am therefore asking all BLP supporters to brace themselves for a long time in opposition. This matter is going to get far worse before it gets better. In fact there will be some political cadavers by the time this matters is resolved.

The next general election will come and find the BLP in absolute turmoil. This will cause our members to stay away from the polls, hence the election results will be clear. Something tells me though that this is the required result of Arthur. It is clear he does not care about the future of the BLP. Once he cannot lead then he is willing to break it up. Sir Grantley, Sir H. Cummins, Tom Adams,Sir Harold and all our faithful followers who have past on must be tunning in their graves.
