Vice Minister Ma Xiuhong met with Hartley Henry, the Chief Political Consultant of Barbadosโ€™ Premier, and his party in Beijing on April 22.

This advisor to the Prime Ministers of Barbados and Dominica considers himself to be the consummate political strategist, the indispensable darling of labour parties in the regionโ€ฆ But there is much beneath the flash and dash of Hartley Hilvester Henry that is anathema to the good governance cloak he uses in the bids of clients to win and entrench themselves in the seat of government.

We have put together a dossier on the secret life of Henry which we are sure will be of interest to the people of the region. With Dominicaโ€™s election now slated for December 18th, 2009, Henry is once again attempting to secure a Labour Party win so that Skerrit can remain at the helm of government. With a mix of under hand dealings and maneuverings, Henry is moving full speed ahead on his mission to triumph through trickery and deception.

Based on a careful assessment of the range of questionable campaign activities in which he is engaged, we ask him to change course and to support the civil rights of the people of Dominica to a free, fair and lawful election of a government of their choice.

The items of interest in Henryโ€™s dossier include:

  • Tax information.
  • Invoice information and methods used to ensure payment.
  • Evidence of under-valued commercial invoices on election promotional items.
  • Evidence of numerous, on-going extra-marital affairs.

Our requests to Hartley Henry are quite straightforward and extremely simple:

  • Abandon any thought of shipping ex patriot Dominicans in to vote.
  • Provide us with full disclosure of all projects in which you are working on for Roosevelt Skerrit.
  • Provide full disclosure of the source of financing for the Skerrit projects in which you are directly involved.
  • Provide us with the precise nature of your assignment with Roosevelt Skerrit along with the quantum and method of compensation.
  • Provide the names of the top three supporters of the Dominica Labour Party election campaign.
  • Advise and Demand that the DLP allows all opposition parties to use DBS, and that all political parties are given the same fee structure for their programs and advertisements.
  • Advise and Demand of your Friends at Kairi Radio Station that they do the same as stipulated above.

In the following days, we will be providing to BU the hard evidence supporting these and other accusations, unless Mr. Henry addresses and rectifies these alleged breaches of public good and civic rights of his own volition.

  1. The original submission was edited. BU accepts the promise by the source that hard evidence will be sent to BU to support those areas of the submission which we have edited to protect BU. BU reserves the right as always to withdraw or suspend any blog if in our judgement it threatens or crosses comment policy.

  2. Excellent topic and I for one am waiting agog to see what light the BU family and its contributor can throw on this matter.

@David. Your caution is well made and point taken. Accusations are easy to make, but, without back-up evidence, they are just that – accusations. And, without proof, they might well be untrue and highly defamatory in law. BU is right to do everything to avoid the excesses of the now almost defunct BFP.

I believe that many people in Dominica read BU, so it will be really good to hear their ‘take’ on this.

Harley Henry has no need to defend himself in a forum such as this, we know. However, as he uses the blogs to get his points across from time to time (actually, regularly) I fully expect that he will ably defend himself, so this will likely be a very lively debate.

I am looking forward to it!!!!

Now we see how a political operative who is paid from the public purse in one country can taint and bring into disrepute the name of the said country. The longer Hartley’s coattails are allowed to flourish under the banner of the DLP, the more damage Barbados would incur as a result, but then again, who is in charge? David or Hartley? Do not think that I am saying Harley should not make a dollar; if he thinks he is good enough to run things and make money regionally, good for him. However, double standards ought not to persist, the DLP should pay him out of their funds and give him the liberty to fraternise or trample whomever he pleases.

It sounds like the crying of a defeated disgruntled opposition party to me!!!

We Barbadians will do our utmost to tarnish the name of decent hard working citizens all the while condoning dishonesty in the foreigners like Danos, and the VECO crowd.

Hartley makes his living out of advising political parties how to win elections as an obvious result of his work there will those that admire him and those that hate him it goes with the job.

May I also add if you look around the Caribbean he has been very successful at what he does this can be see by the election results of recent vintage.

I am in total agreement with Anon’s statement above. I am also impressed that BU has sought to edit the story in light of the fact that many of the accusations are yet to be substantiated. There seems to be recognition that the story may be untrue and may unfairly damage Mr. Henry’s reputation. If David obtains the evidence supporting these accusations, he may very well decide to develop this story further and (depending on the strength of the evidence) no one could object to his pursuit for an explanation for any seemingly nefarious activities.

However, I must ask the question, is this policy of verification being applied across the board? Or are the reputations of some more expendable than others?

    Wishing in Vain stated that:

โ€œWe Barbadians will do our utmost to tarnish the name of decent hard working citizens.โ€

Whilst this statement is extreme (and is not a statement that represents my view of my countrymen) it does indicate that WIV sees value in the reputation of Barbadian citizens (or at least those that he deems “decent and hard workingโ€). In light of his expression of concern, I hope that he is willing to come to the defence of other โ€œdecent hard working citizensโ€ who are denigrated without any evidence of wrong doing other than the say-so of other bloggers and commentators.

  6. holds no brief for hartley henry but whats the beef ? sounds like nitpicking-why try to tarnish the man

    sad very sad !

  7. @Anonlegal

Your observation is valid. You may recall the BU family led the way a few months ago when we discussed the responsibility of blog owners and commenters in the Bajan blogosphere. Since that conversation there has been great awareness shown by the BU family regarding how they have posted comments. BU is always mindful of the heavy responsibility which comes with encouraging free speech. This is the first submission we have been forced to edit because it would have placed BU in a situation where we could have been accused of facilitating a criminal act. As always we will continue to use our best judgement full in the knowledge that in the eyes of some we may be accused of impeding free speech.

Does the above statement by you also apply to the Honourable Mia Amor Mottley?

Or, are you telling us that THAT is precisely what you do in terms of the said Mia Amor Mottley and the Honourable Owen Seymour Arthur?

    Well, well, well!

  9. Wishing In Vain Avatar

David you need to investigate and report on the matter that raised its head today at a luncheon hosted by Mr Duguid for the senior citizens of his constituency.

Reports reaching me are that Forde is fuelling the flames to have Mr Duguid removed as the representative of the constituency, her grudge is that she feels that with him being away as often as he is away, that he is not providing service to the people but also too it is based on the fact that Mottley is not at peace with Duguid and she feels more at ease with the FEMALE DENTIST who has been seen spending more and more time in Mottley’s company.

So intent the Branch and Forde and Mottley are to remove him that they were the ones calling for the press to attend the luncheon so that the show of protest could be documented and displayed.

The luncheon was held and they were there to protest and so they did, but Duguid got his own back at Mottley and Forde by seeing them and not acknowledging any of them.

  10. Wishing In Vain Avatar

And we thought the fight was only between Owin and Mottley??

Well think again the fight is all through the BLP, with a Doctor putting together a plan to remove Mottley in short order, with the full support and blessings and involvement from Owing, the time is near.

The Advice here is free and should be taken because all goods things are free.

    —————————-Get rid of Mia ?
    —————————-Why should we ?
This is it : Make Duguid leader of the party in the interim. Concentrate on making BLP strong to challenge. Attack Thompson relentlessly and then move Owen back in place——–

Simple ! easier than child’s play

  12. Hopefully Sylvan Greenidge et al will give us the other perspective.

  13. Wishing In Vain Avatar

David, This is not a joke, their fighting as openly displayed by Owing has now worked its way down the ranks to Duguid and Mottley and Forde, as for Forde She too is suffering from the unseat virus and it is funny that she is even attempting to assist Mottley when it is the same Mottley who suggest that St Thomas needs a representative more in keeping with the current times than she is, but the saying goes Birds of a Feather Flock Together, so be it.

  14. Wishing In Vain Avatar

David, May I suggest that Duguid be more the person to hope to hear from, from that fraud and liar Sylvan Greenidge

  15. I like Mia as a person. However, what on earth the BLP thought they were doing putting her in charge is not understandable. There is far too much rumour and, in some cases, major errors in judgment and actions, associated with her. While she may come from a political dynasty, like all political dynasties, their survival is usually entirely due to the person who started the dynasty. Mia is a good sargeant-major. She is not a general. As for Owen, well if he has arranged all this and if so many have seen through it, does he seriously continue to think it will work? We Bajans are not fools, you know. If we need Owen, we will call for him. If we do not, then he is out and no amount of plotting will change that. It is too small a country and community.

  16. @David. The source of this report needs to provide specifics for this thread to go anywhere. If they do not, it has to be seen as a fishing expedition and the accusations against Mr. Henry must be discounted and the “forget I spoke” policy put in place. Or they can take their accusations to a blog that has extremely limited editorial requirements and little (if any) credibility, like BFP and Bajan Reporter.

In defense of Mr. Henry, and subject to correction, it seems to me that he is a consultant. Which would mean that he is an independent contractor and self-employed – like most public relations and promotions experts. He would be remiss if he did not accept commissions from other governments and organisations.

I can see no evidence that the author of this report has made any effort to answer the very proper reservations from members of the BU family. If they had the evidence that they purport to have, why does it remain unpublished? In fact, do they need to post it online, or merely provide BU with copies so that BU is protected? If they are in a developing situation, it would be understandable that they might not want to publish what they have. However, they must provide the protection to BU for them comments they want BU to carry. This is not rocket science, it is avoiding dropping the other person (BU) into trouble.

    I await the developments.

  17. I find it interesting that BFP posted this story on November 22, 2009 and none of it was censored including who submitted the article. Now, David is attributing this story to a “BU Source” and has the shakes over possible legal implications. chuppppes

This story has no substance or creditabilty as it was concocted by a former paid worker for the PR of the BLP election campaign Mr Borke and Mottley, Mr Borke who is hired by the opposition in Dominica is wild swiping with the help of Mottley who too is wild swiping.

Mottley is loosing all respect both here and abroad at a pace.

  19. Wishing In Vain // December 7, 2009 at 9:21 AM. As one who has some considerable experience in these things, I suspected that what you say, minus names (and I am not going to be drawn into either agreeing or disagreeing with you on that – because I don’t know) was likely the case. Or something akin. HOWEVER, as we both could easily be wrong – EASILY – I think we owe it to this person to show us their hand. Like you, however, I suspect there is no hand to show.

I am particularly dismissive of the comments about Mr Henry’s private sexual life. He himself is a consultant (albeit a very visible one) to people in public office. He is not himself asking for anyone to vote for him. As such, unless it is criminal when it would be a matter for the DPP, it is no one’s business but Mr Henry’s and we ought not to concern ourselves with it, anymore than any of us would relish our own non-criminal private lives being paraded for the edification of people to whom we owe no duty.

Anonymous(2), this is a surprising stance for you. I respectfully suggest to you that David, like most other people these days, may not have read BFP’s rendering of the report. In fact, may I respectfully suggest that the writer, having had it published at BFP with little or no readership or response, brought it to BU, where he/she could be assured a wide audience and readership. I merely suggest these things to you as I am aware that I am addressing someone of perception who also demonstrates the ability to think latterally. I hardly think that BU ought to quote such a descredited source as BFP on the basis of fair comment.

On this “very” same blog – countless untruths were said about The Hon. Mia Amor Mottley, Q.C., M.P., Owen Arthur and other respected BLP Members – yet no such caution.

They were presumed guilty until proven innocent.

Now we have a different standard for hartley henry. Why? Is it because he is the so-called master-mind behind the DLP victory?

Is it because all DLP Ministers, Pamentarians and Senators, Board Chairman and those who now have unhindered access to the trough -where they are feeding – owe it all to hartly henry who they are sworn to protect – else him being exposed could implicate and hurt all of them.

A few days ago before this blog was hosted, I made the point that depite the AG’s tough talk about amending the Prevention of Corruption Act, it will not happen in the next 90, 100 of 1000 days.

How could I have known! It is easier to find a yellow and blue bob-tail monkey in any gully in Barbados than for the DLP to every bring laws with stiff penalties to punish corruption or bribery.

    Now you know why?

  21. Before jumping to conclusions people should read the Dominican news online, or listen to
    mms://media.cwdom.dm/q95

    Don’t rely on blogs only.

  22. I find David’s comment at David // December 6, 2009 at 5:28 PM to be instructive and indicative of why BU has edited this blog. David says, “This is the first submission we have been forced to edit because it would have placed BU in a situation where we could have been accused of facilitating a criminal act.”

If this is indeed the case, and I am happy to take David’s word that it is, then I cannot but applaud his editorial policy.

Whatever may have happened prior to the Google decision and the action taken by WordPress against BFP, is irrelevant. We have to move with the times and with the laws. It is clear and unbridled and unfounded accusations on blogs are no longer to be tolerated, but we still have a lot of latitude. We need now to protect that and not give it up through posting what may well be unsubstantiated comments by disaffected politicians. That is a sure way os seeing the rights we now have removed.

Also, does anyone really want to be embroiled in a lengthy and expensive lawsuit? Not me anyway.

  23. This issue has nothing to do with hartley henry’s love life or how many women he has or do not have.

But it raises serious questions about bribery and corruption. Why?

    (1) Because the AG of Barbados said he will amend the Prevention of Corruption Act. (It will never be done by the DLP)

    (2) Because the DLP said that it is “squeaky clean.”

    (3) Because the DLP came to office giving the impression that it was clean and whiter than snow.

    (4) Now we know that was merely bait and switch and deception:take the spot-light off you (as the DLP did) and put it on someone else, which then gives you the perfect opportunity to do that which you accuse others of.

THE ONLY QUESTION IS – IS THE DLP “SQUEAKY CLEAN,” OR IS IT AND ITS HIGHLY PLACED OPERATIVE CORRUPT?

Then lets talk about Clico and its financial statements and why the DLP – having promised good governance – is doing all in its power to protect CLICO?

    Why?????

There must be decent, honest people in this country who can speak on these matters!!!!

  24. I will remain silent and simply await Hartley Henry’s defense of himself. To me, he is innocent until proven guilt (except the sexaul indiscretions). However, if after a few days there is no response from Mr Henry to this article, then his silence would have spoken volumes. Let him or her in the DLP who has eyes, open them and see. Enough said.

  25. No so easy!!!

The Prime Minister of Barbados said that both he and DLP operatives are: “SQEAKY CLEAN.”

It was Mr. Thompson who said former BLP operatives have millions stashed in foreign bank accounts, even though he cannot say which island or which bank.

The AG said recently that he will stamp our bribery and corruption.

All the people are saying is – look Mr. PM, look Mr. Stuart, there is a smoking gun right in your face – do something about it.

    Show us you are serious!

By the way – when DLP Ministers and Operatives signed the Code of Conduct, Thompson told David Ellis they did – was hartley henry present?

That is all Barbadians are asking!

It does not surprise me that Harley is in trouble again and once again he claims that he is innocent โ€“ persons are trying to frame him. Well let me state from the outset that all this does not surprise me and David you may try whatever tactics you like, you cannot wipe the filth from Harley. His reputation precedes him.

The Opposition Leader of St. Kitts, during a meeting at the Hilda Skeene School in St. Philip to nominate Indar Wier, made reference to a court matter in his country involving the sexual molestation of a police officer. Hartley is mentioned as the accused in that matter.

David can you locate and repost that article sent to you by a BU Blogger some months ago? It was an article that came in the TIMES of Dominica – headlined Skerrit Vex with Ambrose – in which Hartley is again mentioned in a dubious deal. It was a deal in which the Private Capital Bank was trying to secure a license to operate in Dominica. The question that must be asked is what kind of regulatory system is there in Dominica that will permit the involvement of Hartley in securing a banking license? Should not the owners of this Bank be applying directly to the officials of the Ministry responsible for such matters in Dominica? We can see now why Barbados is the least corrupt in this region- a status Barbados may soon lose with Hartley as the DLPโ€™s chief political advisor.

The first paragraph of that article reads, โ€œReliable information reaching the Times indicates that there is great anger and frustration within the ranks of the Dominica Labour Party on the persistent involvement of Ambrose George in a number of big money international scamsโ€. The article continues, โ€œThe gentleman Hartley Henry was essential in the process of getting the bank license, without him we would not have got itโ€. The article gets even sweeter as it uncovers the players involve in this โ€œaxis of evilโ€. The article reported that, โ€œIt was agreed to pay him US$100,000 for his assistance and having the license executedโ€. It also reported, โ€œIt has been revealed that Downes was instructed to send the money to the following account #: Thompson Associates Account # 02073411 Barbados National Bank, Bridgetown, Barbados Swift code: BNBABABBBโ€.

Is this Thompson Associates the same law firm of the David Thompson? I hope not. So clearly there are a number of unanswered questions about Hartley and how he has been able to survive among the leaders of like minds in this region.

  29. Let Hartley come and defend this one. Please David post the information given to you by the BU source. There is nothing you can post about Hartley that we do not already know.

Like you DLP Supporter if I don’t hear from Hartley in a couple of days I to will put my own meaning this post.

  30. Royalrumble, sorry to be so precise, BUT David did intimate (and I now ask him to confirm) that he had NOT seen these documents that his source relies on. Now, would you put your head on the proverbial block without sight of them? I have absolute confidence that when David sees them, if they are not more unfounded and unsourced accusations, he will publish them. Time and again, people have tried to impugn his integrity and each time, as far as I can see, they have failed.

As for Hartley defending the post, so far there is NOTHING TO DEFEND. Just a lot of unsourced and unconfirmed, speculative rumours.

Don’t get me wrong, like most good Bajans I would really like a good issue to get my teeth into. However, the operative word here is ‘good’. Unsourced and unsupported, it is NOT good, but defamation and I have much better things to do with my time than to enter into a baseless battle to support politicians who are unable to do it simply by appealing to their electorate.

For a report like this, unsourced and unsupported, to have so many people jumping to conclusions and voicing opinions, instead of requests for more information, argues an attempt at political games.

    Me gone.

    You know Hartley…

    We actually don’t have “evidence”.

All we have is a continuing stream of unsubstantiated allegations from you and your lot. Promises of investigations, soaring rhetoric about corruption, lots of sound and fury but nothing of any real significance.

We have possibly the only government in the world that is not interested in exploring its oil reserve potential.

We have a minister in charge of Immigration who “can’t speak to the running of the immigration department”

We have a hospital that is on the verge of becoming derelict but the current administration won’t back down on a political statement to say they are going to act on the studies that were done by UN consultants that the ALREADY have.

We have traffic backing up on the highway despite being told that there was “no need for flyovers”. Once again the political statement overrules the facts.

We have the PM and head of the Central Bank issuing contratdictory statements about whether we will be taking more debt or not.

We have a PM who ranted and raved about “golf courses” before he was elected but was happy to open the Apes Hill golf course!

    We have skyrocketing public debt.

We have a Transport Board that is on the verge of collapse because it’s resources were not considered before starting the free bus rides for school children.

    We have rising food prices

    We have rising unemployment

We have an economic strategy that can be condensed to “wait and see”

Oh yes and we have constituency councils.

Things that make you go hmmmmm. you also forgot to mention We Have installed an honest gov’t and We Have ended the CORRUPTION that was the BLP anything else WE HAVE???

  37. Here is where we should start:

The DLP said that hartley henry master-mined it Jan. 15th electoral success.

The DLP holds the view that David Thompson is today Prime Minister because of henry.

Stuart is today AG because of hartley henry.

Every Minister, diplomatic appointment, Senator and all who serve on Boards or hold office under this DLP-out-fit, do so because of and at the pleasure of hartley henry.

He is they man. The DLP’s aim in politics is to serve CLICO and ptotect hartley henry.

Stuart alleges that he will amend the Prevention of Corruption Act, but it will not happen, but this specific blog raises serious “questions” about DLP sponsored or facilitated corruption, illegality, collusion and bribery.

Tell me, why would the DLP turn off the water of a 73-year-old-pensioner, when CLICO has a Stautory Fund Deficit of $93 million?

Doesn’t the Prime Minister, Attorney General or Supervisor of Insurance care?

They know, but do not have a discretion in law not to act to protect the 40,000 policy holders and their families? So is it negligence, corruption, collusion or aiding and abbeting???

All that, yet hartley henry says:

“We Have installed an honest govโ€™t and We Have ended the CORRUPTION”

Ended corruption but CLICO has a $93 million statutory fund deficit!!!

Ended the corruption but there has been no Cabinet reshuffle!!!

Ended the corruption but no change in the PM’ personal staff!!!

    MIRACLES DO HAPPEN!!!

  38. Alex Ferguson…..you and your BLP CROOKS are a waste !

The electorate are the ones who ensured that your BLP reign of terror came to an end.

You can gripe all you want about it..

    Too bad !!!

  39. Hmmmmm lets see what we have shall we …….

We had a contract which really wasn’t a contract, to f**k up a highway!

We had a leader showing total disrespect for his former wife, and then marrying his employee. Forgot to mention how he cursed his staff.

We had a former PM appearing in the newspaper stating that he gave a man some money from the treasury because he was only trying to help him out!

Did I mention the cheques that had the former PM’s name on it? oops my bad!

The Sovereign State of Barbados was insulted when the former PM boasted that he brought in Guyanese to work on his house. He cursed public Officers and said that the immigration officers had bad work ethics, he then brought in Guyanese immigration Officers to oversee the work that our local immigration officers were doing in their processing of Guyanese nationals. (I was f###### insulted).

Who use to seem as they were always under the influence.

He has sullied the Office of Prime Minister.

hmmmm need I go on …. I MUST

We had a Deputy Prime Minister who made at a pass at me (am a female) so ….. you know the rumours couldn’t be lies or propaganda. Additionally she f##### up the ministry of education; send home children from school to go and gyrate to edwin…….. question the media and people of Barbados about legalising homosexuality, the prison was burnt down under her watch and yada yada.

We had a very questionable GEMS Project

We had a hospital on the verge of explosion ……(can see little tiny improvements yet needs loads of work)

The bath at Silver Sands that cost a million dollars.

The man that cut down an ackee tree in town for close to $100,000.

    The Greenland Land Fill.

Barney Lynch is now a millionaire I hear he will never be broke in Barbados.

Gline Clarke, Father sexy, wuk for wuk HMMMMM, need I say more.

Ms. Forde from St. Thomas, helped many Indians and Pakistanis to get citizenship in Barbados.

These things don’t make me say hmmmm. These things make me say:

    SOME PEOPLE NEED FUC**** PRISON!

  40. Love you notice that Greenidge is willfully avoiding the matter of the strife and unrest with Duguid, Mottley and Forde???

They got issues by the score and on here telling a whole lot of crap to people.

Owing in Mottley’s pants and Forde and Mottley in Duguid’s pants, I would rather be in Duguid’s pants as these two are lightweights compared to a battle with Owing there can only be one looser that has bound to be Mottley.

  41. @ lOVE,

The electorate fell for a scam and voted for change for the sake of change.

Today, too many are struggling to pay their bills, over 6,000 have lost their jobs, crime is on the rise and taxes are killing the people.

Now tell me – is it change that make sense?

Here is another point, if a condom can mitigate the sread of AIDS, why so many new cases (not reports) new people getting the virus?

Here is the answer: A lapse in judgment.

Would the people have voted for the DLP knowing that it is an incompetent bunch — hard to say.

Will the DLP come again with juicy 90 and 100 day promises: yes! Why?

    More later?

  42. The Leader of the Opposition of Barbados, The Hon. Mia Amor Mottley, Q.C., M.P., – said recently that the Barbados Labour Party will win the next general election.

Within days of her having said that – Ronald Jones said that based on voting trends (and despite the DLP having inflicted and continuing to inflict severe and unprecedented pain on the people of this country – as a result of it reckless mismanagement and total incompetence) the DLP somehow win because the electorate of Barbados โ€“ the same people who the DLP is now making suffer – have never before given a party one-term.

Well no political party has ever caused the people such pain and unnecessary suffering before, Mr. Jones.

Ronald Jones do you expect that the DLPโ€™s political and economic beating and domestic violence on the people of Barbados -will be easily over-looked.

Ronald Jones must be shown that it is because of the same voting trends that the people of this country are today – not able to pay their bills because they have a cash-flow problem and are struggling under the economic whip of the DLP.

It is because of the same voting trends that more than 6,000 have lost their jobs, as a result of the DLPโ€™s reckless dangerous mismanagement and it certainly because of voting trends that thousands cannot today put food on the table or cope with the same cost of living that the DLP is doing most in Barbados – to increase daily.

The DLP got the chance to do all this damage because of voting trends or because the people gambled with their future.

Look the pain that โ€œvoting trendsโ€ have caused Barbados

It is voting trends that have Barbados in this unnecessary crisis.

Because the people did not want to give the BLP another term, they elected an incompetent DLP government, which is now responsible for the economic mess Barbados is now in.

It is therefore obvious and logical that sticking to voting trends, will cause more job lost and more economic pain, because the DLP does not know what it is doing but above all โ€“ the DLPโ€™s main reason to hold-on to power at any and all cost – is to protect and serve CLICO.

  43. Do you plan to make a sensible contribution to this blog Fergusson??

All I have seen is the same refrain in many different places but nothing of sense, then again you support Mottley no sense is expected of you with that choice.

  44. Wishing In Vain // December 8, 2009 at 9:31 AM

Things that make you go hmmmmm. you also forgot to mention We Have installed an honest govโ€™t and We Have ended the CORRUPTION that was the BLP anything else WE HAVE???

If this DLP Government is so honest then tell Barbadians about the US$100,000 that was to be paid into Thompsonโ€™s bank account at the BNB for the bribe that was to be paid to Hartley for securing the license for the Private Capital Bank in St. Kitts? How did this โ€œSqueaky cleanโ€ Thompson got involved in this nastiness? How can this Government be honest with the PM involved in this kind of filth with Hartley and questionable actions in the financial collapse of Clico Barbados?

Tell us where the wives of Thompson and Parris got the money from to purchase land at Martins Bay and how are they able to afford the massive greenheart structure that has built on it?

Who has the millions that are now missing from Clico Barbados and why is Thompson so scared to put the company under judicial management and order a forensic audit? Why why why tell us why if you are so honest?

Why after almost two years Thompson or any of his Cabinet colleagues cannot do what Ms. Mottley and Owen Arthur did and declare their assets? Why canโ€™t he bring the integrity legislation and freedom of information act that he promised? The truth is that if this Government introduced such legislation now they would be faced with a crisis in Government. To start with they would have to fire the PMโ€™s political consultant and then prepare to call by-elections in about seven constituencies.

DLP Government an honest Government? This has got to be an Enid Blyton story. You know Barbadians have now been asking the obvious question. Why whenever the DLP is in office there is never any money in the economy? Barbadians are now more eager than ever to get the rid of this band of political novitiates and intellectual derelicts.

  45. @ Wishing In Vain

What about the Compendium of Labour Legislation?

What about the $93 million Clico Statutory Fund Deficit?

What about the Agriculture Protection Act?

And, why would the Prime Minister of Barbados and the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance “be summoned to the residence of the Governor of the Central Bank to answer question?”

NOW – SHOULD THE PEOPLE OF BARBADOS WORRY?

  46. โ€œIf we are to measure his success by wining electionsโ€ฆwe can judge by the results of the election,โ€ stated a leading member of the Dominica Labour Party who refused to admit that the Barbadian strategist was working for his party.

โ€œI cannot say Hartley is working for the government but if he is then the results of the last two elections show that (the investment) was worth it.โ€

But for every defender willing to sing his praises, thereโ€™s a detractor who swears that Henryโ€™s reputation is as bloated as the crowds that attend the โ€œentertainmentโ€ at his rallies.

Some point to his failed attempt to win a seat for the DLP in the 1999 general election.

Henry was trounced by the Barbados Labour Party (BLP)โ€™s Louis Tull in the St. George South seat, winning less than 39 per cent of the votes cast despite being โ€œthe biggest spender,โ€ one of his countrymen said.

โ€œHartley is the guy who failed in his debut to win a seat in parliament in his home constituency and he somehow became some sort of political strategist,โ€ added one political observer with intimate knowledge of Barbadian politics.

The former agriculture minister, Athie Martin, was introduced to Henry in the run up to the 2000 general election here, when โ€œhe came and attempted to take over the campaign.โ€

But, according to Martin, the then political leader (now late Prime Minister) Rosie Douglas, refused to cede control of the campaign to the Barbadian.

โ€œI donโ€™t think he was comfortable with Rosie,โ€ Martin told The Sun.

He said it was only after Roosevelt Skerrit took over the leadership of the party following the sudden death of Prime Minister Pierre Charles in 2004 that Henryโ€™s influence mushroomed.

However, Martin said, the country is worse off for it.

โ€œHis strategy is unravelling and he is causing untold damage to our country,โ€ the outspoken Martin said.

  47. “The first paragraph of that article reads, โ€œReliable information reaching the Times indicates that there is great anger and frustration within the ranks of the Dominica Labour Party on the persistent involvement of Ambrose George in a number of big money international scamsโ€.

This was a comment made by one Royalrumble and I think it is a very damaging piece on our PM. It is purported to have been published in the Times newspaper of Dominica of Wednesday, October 15, 2008.

Is there any truth to this report David? Is this Thompson and Associates the same law firm of our PM? Why would money owed to Hartley under such corrupt means be paid into an account of our PM? How would the Church feel about this kind of conduct? I recall the blessings poured out on the PM by church leaders like Lucille Birde, Mr. Durant, Mr. Holford and others when he won the election. They thought that he was a blessing from above. Have our church leaders been mislead by the Holy Spirit?

I am very concern about these comments attributed to our PM. Will someone please enlighten me.

  48. Just heard on the BBC news that Japan is pumping US$80 billion into a stimulus package. Obama is pumping a further US$200 billion into his original package. This is part of a global trend taken by serious leaders in countries like Italy, England, Germany, France and other to pull their economies out of recession.

The only person who prefers to sit and wait for a miracle to happen is the Prime Minister of Barbados – the man who, over night, has become the laughing stock of the political and business world. We already know what the academics think of him and his capacity to lead anything or anyone in this region. They have said enough to confirm that Thompson is an idiot. How long would Barbadians have to endure him?

In all honesty and to be realistic, can Barbados match up to those conglomerates; furthermore, does Barbados have the revenue to put into a Stimulus package?

  50. @ EyeSpy

Having told Barbadians that he had a stimulus package before Obama, David Thompson later said in the House of Assembly on November 17th 2009 – that a stimulus package would not be prudent for Barbados, since โ€“ according to him – a โ€œfiscal stimulus package would be unwise.โ€

In fact, Thompson alarmed Barbadians when he said that he has been โ€œdoing a balancing act between waiting-and-seeing the economic recession and being proactive.โ€

In contrast, President Obama made it known to the world that he is being โ€œsurgical and creative.โ€

Mr. Obama added, โ€œI am not interested in taking a wait and see approach.โ€ President Obama also told Americans that, โ€œwe cannot hang back and hope for the best.โ€

In Barbados, David Thompson is doing the complete opposite. It is why the unemployment rate in the third quarter is 10.5% and climbing fast, but David Thompson has no plan to save jobs or create some to replace those that are being lost, as a result of his flawed policies.

    ++++++++++++++
    The simple point is:

DAVID THOMPSON DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING
