moralityBack in the day decent Barbadians would hear of the erotic exploits which occurred at certain clubs on Nelson Street and the adjacent Bay Street. The Zanzibar and Castro Clubs are the two that come quickly to mind. It was the area where the visiting marauding sailors spilled from the  military and civilian vessels berthed in the nearby harbour and descended on Nelson Street like flies on dodo.

High Street Barbados even as it is today would never be caught dead frequenting Nelson Street. Periodically as they do even today the Police would raid the two clubs and the girls rounded-up and deported, or fined based on their resident status. Of recent vintage is the 21 Club which was opened on Baxter’s Road before its demise.

As our society has ‘developed’ gentleman clubs previously isolated to Nelson Street are now sprouting-up all over Barbados. These clubs are being setup to cater to middleclass Barbados and the tourists.  The void left by the diminished role of the Church and religion has been quickly filled by the clubs.

Many of our Christian citizens don’t even bother to pretend that a moral wrong is being committed when they go visiting the clubs.

In 2007 BU highlighted the illegal activities which was occurring at the Lavaground Club on Roebuck Street. It was several months before the authorities decided to shut the club down. In Barbados we have a tendency to avoid striking when the iron is hot, it is not in our nature, or so it seems. The current debate on the impact of migrant labour, specifically illegals and the moldering educating system are good examples, we continue play political football with these important issues.

We are particularly concerned about the kind of activities being fed to our society by Club Maramel on Maxwell, Matador on Synogogue Lane and Rolex on Spring Garden. The fact that the Police raided the Rolex Club not too long ago in the wee hours of the morning and had to back-off because of who was present is just an example of one law being practiced for the Pharisees and one for the Persians. We urge our authorities in high office to walk the walk and talk the talk. Some of us are watching.

We don’t expect a Utopian society but we will not accept Sodom and Gomorrah either.

Well well well..all of these matured , proud bajan citizens proclaiming their right to pick fares and touting the many virtues of prostitution…I’m way to young to share the same obviously cheerful memories of past, but I can see clearly what a troubled nation this has become, and I’m utterly disgusted at how compliant the majority of you are. Disgusted but not surprised. All you people saying that that things were no better before, fair enough…but offer some solutions for the problems now DAMMIT.all I know is, I am one of the growing number of young people looking to earn my education, depart and disown this newly formed cesspool of depravity…Prostitution breeds nothing but trouble..read the news..watch it…for christs sake, watch a movie..learn from americas mistakes IDIOT….stupse

First off how I stumbled upon this little , conversation. google search for opening a strip club in Bim.

Sex is a thriving business and the recession got people stressed. I so personally would love to open a strip club, one of the most elite in the country, who like um or not. And I am not the only young person with the idea in mind.

Bush Hill? Why not make your money the way you want to, everyone is good at something, drawing, singing, healing the sick so why not use your talents and make some income?

Regardless of anything, each person has their own morals, so many might not like what you do, but when its all said and done, them aint giving you nothing to get though life with anyways cause them checking for themselves.

I DO NOT WANT TO BE HARSH BUT IT IS THE OLDEST PROFESSION IN THE WORLD AND ONE OF THE MOST WELL PAID PROFESSION IN THE WORLD. TAKING THE SEX WORKERS OUT OF THE WHOLE SOCIETY WOULD PUT THE FREAKS ON A RAMPAGE AND OUR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS WOULD BE VICTIMS OF SUCH TRAMA. THERE ARE ALWAYS TWO SIDES TO A STORY SO PLEASE WHEN YOU MAKE SUCH A JUDGEMENT AND WANT MOVEMENT IN LIFE THERE ARE FOLLOWERS AND LEADERS..A LEADER NOW MAKES JUDGEMENT AFTER WATCHING AND EVALUATING CONSEQUIENCES ON BOTH SIDES AND MAKES DECISIONS TO PLEASE ALL. BUT HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND UNDERAGE IS A HELL NO… A SEX WORKER MUST BE SO AT OWN FREE WILL. TRY KNOWING A FEW AND TAKE TIME TO COMMUNICATE WITH THEM THEN YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND WHY THEY CHOOSE SUCH A PROFFESION AND THEN YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO COPE TO THE QUESTION WHY?…
