Congratulations from the BU team to David Thompson and the Democratic Labour Party on their victory. May God inspire your government to chart a path to our continued prosperity for Barbados — both on the economic and social fronts.

David – BU

Note: The results captured below are the official results.

Political Leaders Of Barbados

David Thompson

Owen Arthur

Welcome to Election Coverage 2008. Join us here at Barbados Underground as we count the votes and discuss the issues which have emerged in the lead-up to Elections 2008 and other related issues. We invite you to discuss your expectations of the new government and hear what others, including local broadcasters, have to say.

  • Should Barbadians be concerned about the functioning of a system of government that has served us well in the post-Independence era?
  • How important are the roles of the Auditor General, Director of Public Prosecutors, Ombudsman and the Publics Accounts Committee to a well functioning democracy?
  • How can Barbadians demand accountability from our politicians after they are elected?
  • How will Barbadians enforce promises that government makes from time to time: Do we, the PEOPLE, need to legislate the power of recall?
  • What about term limits: Is this important given the concerns some Barbadians have about the effect which Arthur’s politics of inclusion has had on the Opposition Party?

    Wow up and running!!!

  2. looking good!

  3. We must report the ‘rush’ we got when we exercised our right to vote today in the election. We cannot imagine why people would be so ignorant to want to vote.

Anyway besides a couple ‘issues’ in Mascoll/Sinckler and one other all went smoothly based on reports reaching us.

  4. We soon know.

  5. David and Crew of BU.

Thanks for being professional in your election coverages. This is what commenters would be looking at during the counting. You really out done yourself. Again, Congrats!

  6. good presentation BU

    Great site, I’m glued

  8. We were planning to do some election coverage on our blog as well, but we cannot match this. We bow to your election coverage greatness and will stay tuned.

  9. taking too long, hurry it up

  10. Receiving CBC TV loud and clear in the Orlando area. Really good to hear some Bajan voices.
    Thanks for the links BU,
You have done a very good job.

  11. Good presentation but you should put the correct picture of Stephen Lashley and not use Michael Lashley’s picture.

  12. I’m impressed, keep the good work up, hope the votes look this good

  13. Early results for Mascoll is not promising. According to Wickham the behaviour favouring a DLP seat is holding.

On behalf of the BU team we wish to thank all for your feedback.

    BU Team

  14. As the first votes come in, the numbers I am hearing, I’ll stick my neck out and call a landslide already.

Benn giving Owen a fair run, against an incumbent PM, that is something.

    It’s over.

  15. Licks sharing from north to south, and from east to west. Murdaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

  16. Cool it people. Early results show DLP holding or improving and there is an early trend. We however stress EARLY.

There is a big swing away from Owen. Although Arthur will win it does not look good given the size swing.

Systems Caribbean is predicting of the 14 seats declared the DLP will win 11.

  17. Thanks to all for your feedback on our election presentation.

  18. who won i wana know its taking forever

  19. VOB just stated that 1,199 people are currently logged on to their live webcam stream.

As we say in buhbados, wuh loss, lick like peas!! for de BLP

  21. I’m staying with you, you getting the results up quicker than the CBC site!!

  22. i wid DEM all the way

  23. The fancy Nation election site is useless – this is much more current. Nice one BU.

  24. There is currently a swing towards the DLP.

Looks like radio personality Ian (Qupid) Gill getting some licks.

  25. The new comers are giving the veteran politicians some real licks.

  26. Boxhill now consisting that Cadres poll was more acurate. Oh me am.

  27. We firmly believe that the Nation Publisher/Editors should be fired for paying for the CHAPO poll and treating Wickham like dirt. CHAPO has no track record and Boxill had no knowledge of the uniqueness of the Barbadian electors; yet he was able to come to Barbados and get paid for work which in essence was a beta project.

    Wickham should demand an apology.

  28. It is neck and neck…….the anticipation killin muh!!!

  29. Thanks for the fantastic election coverage! Your site rocks!

  30. On the CBC site you can click on each constituency and get the details up except for St Peter!!!!!!!!

  31. Pied Piper … neck and neck … its a LANDSLIDE …. I’ll stick with my prediction ..
    DLP= 23
    BLP= 7

  35. Hard Driver, nothing would please me more than if your prediction is correct!

  36. Looks like a big win for the DLP.

Well, we will soon see how they PERFORM.

We note with pleasure that there will be no more Adrian Loveridge complaining about tourism in Barbados.

    B F P E

  37. The people of Barbados have spoken

  38. It looks like the majority of commenters on BFP and BU had their fingers on the pulse of the nation.

  39. BU check the stats for St. Michael South Central

  40. The end of April will mark the first 100 days of DLP government.

We will see what happens in the next three months.

  41. I only see one seat so far for the DLP are these the only results so far?

  46. Wickham is VINDICATED! His predictions are spot on.

He was villified but now he is VICTORIOUS.
The head that was once crowned with thorns is crowned with glory now.

  48. How soon will we be getting that integrity legislation? Remember we were promised that we would see the assets of these DLP candidates should they win.

We are going to love reading these blogs in the months ahead.

    B F P E

  49. B F P E are you conceding already?

  50. I feel like if I just won the lottery. My faith has been restored in my fellow B’dians. This should definitely let all aspiring politicians know that we are really not afraid to vote them out when we see the need. The DLP should take note of this.
