Thanks to Bajan Citizen for producing relevant links to the latest story making the rounds about Mark Maloney being scammed out of US10 million dollars purported to be a payment for 1 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine on behalf of Barbados and two other governments.
The blogmaster has two questions:
- On what basis was Maloney’s company Radical Investments Ltd selected to broker this transaction.
- Is the government out of pocket because of the errant transaction.
- How does being out of pocket USD6.7 million affect Maloney’s financial state to continue to do business.
Mark Maloney Says $12M COVID Vaccine Deal Was A Scam
https://www.law360.com/commercialcontracts/articles/1422923/barbados-co-says-12m-covid-vaccine-deal-was-a-scam
The case is Radical Investments Ltd. v. Good Vibrations Entertainment LLC et al., case number 9:21-cv-81761, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida
Radical Investments Ltd. is a St Lucia registered company owned by Mark Maloney.
He appears to have been swindled out of $6.7 millon USD from the governments of St Lucia, the Bahamas and Barbados who contributed money to buy COVID vaccines for their citizens.
“In April 2021, the Governments of Saint Lucia, The Bahamas and Barbados initiated a bulk purchase of AstraZeneca vaccines, as the minimum purchase from authorized suppliers was one million (1,000,000) vaccines.”
http://www.govt.lc/news/saint-lucia-s-efforts-to-secure-high-demand-covid-19-vaccines.
St Lucia contributed $7.3 million EC
https://www.caribbeannewsglobal.com/approval-of-direct-purchase-for-astrazeneca-radical-investments-ltd/
Mark Maloney is deputy chair of the private sector group put together last March to fundraise and acquire more vaccines.
https://barbadostoday.bb/2021/03/03/high-powered-group-ready-to-assist-with-vaccine-financing/
It is not clear what due dilligence Mr Maloney did before entering into this commercial arrangement with Good Vibrations Entertainment LLC. If you were looking to purchase pharmaceuticals would you do business with a company whith a name that connotes mechanical sexual services, and with an address at 21218 St Andrews Blvd Suite 318 that is a mailbox in a UPS store where 175 other fly by night companies also have their “headquarters”???

The PM said that Verla Depezia was throwing “mud “:as the answer given to Verla questions about the scam
The nerve of this PM is dumbfounding
Instead of addressing the questions put forward in a decent format by having an address to the nation specifically dealing with the scam
The PM launches an outright attack on Verla
This country is where we are because of the quality of a leader who believes that she has a god given right of being a PM which transcends a right to do as she pleases and is not answerable to no one
Her PR conferences only resides things COVID where she is comfortable given orders
Now having to deal with this issue would give the nation complete exposure of the kind of character Motley truly is
The only redherring is this dirty thing that KEEPS GROWING…..and there is an attempt to cover up…
ya have a PM who not only HAS access to AstraZeneca as a government elected by the people, to acquire 1 million doses of vaccines @ $US3 PER DOSE..why did the three governments NOT combine their resourses sans fake radical and DO JUST THAT….are they all are still WAITING…so a waiting list would have been the better, intelligent and LEGAL COURSE…
….AND had already engaged others who according to them successfully PROCURED Covax vaccines, which we are aware that there was a shipment on the island as a first..
BUT… no…we are hearing fake Radical maloney saying he was AUTHORIZED by the Barbados government as THEIR agent to procure 1 million doses of vaccine valued at a whopping 23 million dollars @ US$ 48 PER DOSE…from at least 6 or 7 SKETCHY companies for a measly US12 million dollars…that is definitely a wannabe white market operation…and their own ARROGANCE CAUGHT THEM…..and they CANNOT make it make sense…
no amount of dancing around, sidestepping, shifting blame or deflecting can remove that reality…..it’s HERE TO STAY..
“In capitalism a disaster never goes to waste”
particularly when there is immense suffering, misery and DEATH…they have no shame….or fear of being struck down until all their bloodlines disappear..
Definitely not a good response from Ms. Mottley. Politicians must accept that they have EARNED our distrust and not blame us for it.
I care not what she says about Verla. She is one of them not one of us.
However, her concern should not have been what Verla and her few yardfowls have been saying. Her concern should have been for the rest of us, especially those who switched their votes from D to B, hoping against all hope that the serious mess we were in would induce a Damascus event.
So…instead of coming out swinging, she should have turned the other cheek and with humility, explained her thinking in consorting with a man she made a big campaign issue just a few short years ago.
The bombast isn’t working for Bajans anymore.
She is not reading the room.
Those who have done wrong are usually required to acknowledge, apologise and do penance before they can expect to regain trust.
Ms. Mottley is mistaking the thirty:love defeat as a love for her and the BLP. It was actually a rejection of the DLP.
Therein lies her problem.
Donna peabrain you do not win sny election 30 to 0 simply on rejection of the other party. That is total rubbish. The electorate would have to buy into whst you are offering. As abject as ex PM and the dems were there was popular suppor5 by bajans in general for Ms Mottley and the Bees maybe not a dem like you but speak for yourself and not others.Ms Mottley has spoken of the politicising of this issue by Ms Depeiza , Rev Atherley and the noisemakers on here as she has a right to do.Furthermore she dtsted a full accounting will be done in parliament come tuesday. What the hell more you and the noisemakers want.As they would say NEXT.

We were of the view that you were quite au fait with the real political character of MAM.
We can well recall, in true “Artax” style, how much you were against OSA in favour of MAM as the leader of the Opposition leading up to the 2013 general elections.
Aren’t you the very same alternating blue and yellow weathercock called “ac” who used to post video clips on BU in which OSA ‘exposed’ the true nature of MAM as a despot?
Do you remember the ‘witch all dressed in white’ now naked in all her red glory?
Why then are you shocked at the recent turn of events involving the other MAM?
When it comes to the BDLP game of duopoly the man called MAM No.2 represents both six and half-dozen on the board of kickbacks and corruption.
What you and Verla, along with the mock man calling himself the ‘LoO’, should be demanding is the resignation of the MoH.
How could such a far-reaching decision be made regarding the acquisition of vaccines to fight a pandemic without his express knowledge or involvement?
So if fake Radical maloney had acquired these 1 million doses of vaccines @US$48 per dose paying less than half of the white market value of $23 MILLION…according to Mia..it was maloney’s money……exactly HOW MUCH would the TREASURY HAVE paid maloney for the AstraZeneca…..for the whole gang to make a PROFIT…off the 12 million US dollars spent…Mia said she would have BOUGHT THEM had the scam been successful….
keep telling yall that we are much more intelligent than those we elect…do not let them make fools of you as they have for half CENTURY…..Caribbean treasuries would have taken a DIRECT HIT from this scam to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars…and taxpayers would never have known the difference, it’s the population would FEEL the resultant….DESTITUTION and pauperization…which the wicked governments would blame on the people while KEEPING THEM TRAPPED IN DEPENDENCY SLAVERY TOURISM….low wages and GENERATIONAL POVERTY 2.0
they got a lot of overnight millionaires walking around in Florida and other states today because of that hoax purchasing of AstraZeneca for PROFIT…….🤣🤣🤣🤣
Pacha and Theo…am sure yall saw the pillaging that would have come about on REPEAT until the pandemic ended……with Radical as the golden boy of vaccine procurement and seen as a hero worth promoting to the next level because everyone would be overnight millionaires and smiling ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK…….instead he got dragged to the level from where he started and helped put eyes on Caribbean governments as facilitators of these elaborate scams…
The Miller
Yes. You are wholly correct.
If the MoH did not know about this substantial deal he should resign. This is negligence at least.
If he did know but lied to the public he should be fired immediately.
What is more concerning is that the impression has been given that Mottley herself seems to have usurped the authority of the Minister and was directly in charge. This is our best reading of these circumstances.
If we’re right then these series of events are vastly more portentous. For then the entire regime should lie in the balance if Westminster claims still have meanings.
Fleabrain Lorenzo,
The electorate of Barbados is, as a general rule, split relatively evenly between B and D.
Elections are usually won, not off yardfowls and loyalists but off those who are willing to swing.
The DLP won two terms with two different leaders. They won even under Stuart, who was never anybody’s favourite.
Clico did not derail the DLP. It took Four Seasons, Cahill, million dollar legal fees at the BWA, near million dollar legal fees at the Caves, 5 million dollars on a dead mother’s bank account, a suitcase of money at the airport, Transtech vehicles being driven by government ministers, UWI tuition fees, NSRL, 17.5% vat, public sector wages freeze, public sector retrenchment, Mark Maloney at the Grotto, Mark Maloney at Coverley, Mark Maloney like Poonka, all over de place, no water, no garbage collection, no buses and arrogant indifference from Stuart.
And the callous comment that the Speaker of the House should, not repay a wheelchair bound old man his money but should seek legal advice!
Barbados never had it so bad!
And you believe that the people of St. Lucy, St John and St. Philip North suddenly fell in love with Mia Mottley????
I didn’t.
“These days are funny nights”
Here we are talking about a corporate elites owned artificial personality called “radical”.
In a group of countries where even the poorest of the poor have long eschewed real radicals, the few we’ve laid claim to.
A country, Barbados, which passed a Public Order Act to criminalize anybody deemed radical. Some still amongst us.
Within a region where successive elected dictatorships know best how to empower minority groupings and White elites.
But the ethos of a radical tradition long submerged could be now given the personality of a Santa Claus.
Not even Orwell saw this one.
oh we are going to SHOW these negro TRAITORS and their fraud boy maloney the TRUE DEFINITION OF RADICALISM…this is their Waterloo.
@ Pacha, This scam was at the Prime Ministerial level. The Minister of Health of St Lucia had no knowledge of it either. The Minister of Health of Barbados should resign.
Waru
There are people still alive who would have Special Branch officers stationed outside their door, 24/7.
Would haul them in for interrogations because they’ll go to Cuba, some Afrikan countries, espoused Marxist economic views. Etc.
These were deemed radicals and could not even hold any kind of job far less construct an artifical personality called “radical” and get a government contract.
Wow!
Source: Nation
“There are people still alive who would have Special Branch officers stationed outside their door, 24/7”
always heard about the way Barrow wielded the anti-Black Public Order Act against any Pan Africanist or Pro-Black African groups who were enlightening the population, stationing Special Branch at their residences or offices 24/7 and punishing those who resisted…all to maintain the dirty racist status quo of apartheid, disenfranchisement and oppression to ensure the empowerment, enrichment and comfort of a consortium of thieves and racists making sure of the disempowerment, pauperization and discomfort of and at the Black African’s population expense…which is still ongoing half century later, with these new age rats and crabs still embedded in the modern day haunted house of a parliament but now weaponizing the likes of scam king maloney to continue these Anti-Black African crimes generationally…but weapons CAN BE DESTROYED….
it’s more difficult for them to use police and spies so they have upped the anti…but so can we….and made the BIG MISTAKE of casting their corrupt criminal eyes at OUR CONTINENT…and don’t know that is WHERE ALL OUR POWERS LIE..
https://radicalcaribbeancup.com/
Donna pea brain you stated thst tje 30 to 0 WAS A REJECTION OF THE DLP .Then you stated not for the love of Ms Mottley.I pointed out to you that the rejection of the dems were by dems like yourself .The election of Ms Mottley and the BLP also had to do with their policies and you cannot refute this. All you have stated during the dems rule is quite true and nobpdy can do worse biut there was and still is majority support cor tbis government since bajan memories of the last set of dems ain, t short. Therefore i told you to speak for yourself and maybe your son. What Ms Mottley said about Ms Depeiza and Fev Atherley playing playing politics with this matter is quite true in my view.Like she stated hope it does not come back to bite them . I gone.
Heather
Yes. During this pandemic all we saw was Mottley, all over this.
We have the Barbados MoH saying he had no knowledge. The former PM of Saint Lucia’s admission. And if their former MoH too had no knowledge it must mean that Maloney had or have both the former PM of St. Lucia and the present PM of Barbados, as we say in soccer, in his pocket.
Given all these circumstances it is not unreasonable to conclude, as a political judgement, that this scam was run out of the PM’s office. Therefore she too must resign and call an election.
You always making these calls that are unrealistic with our prevailing culture . The same culture we are struggling to disrupt.
David
Agree. We agree that you pretend to be a Westminster style democracy but are in reality an elected dictatorship. We are unreasonable.
You pretend to exact accountability but prefer to rest on the mouthings of elected officials rather than follow unreasonably higher standards of behaviours as followed in Westminster.
At the end of the day you will again be the position ante. A position you’ve been in at every election in the last 15 years. Hoping that a change of government will deliver something else. Unfortunately that something else keeps getting worse and worse. Yes we are rassoul unreasonable given your fastidious acceptance of the political merry-go-round.
@David
Surely the PS in the MoH knows who gave her the information and directed her to pen what she did?
The Kamante Millar in this situation?
Is giving the civil service a pass part of our culture?
If one desires change, it cannot occur if nothing else changes?
See the problem for them is…our more recent 3 generations of forebears did not know what to do with or about these minority criminals and their parliament nigas BUT WE DO…
@Pacha
Simply pointing out a reality.
Wasn’t the Board of CBL stacked with the most senior of the public service?
Do they have no responsibility to the taxpayers beyond doing what the elected direct them to do?
Sometimes you have to shine a light on those who might fold. It isn’t going to be the pols.
@NO
What the PM has admitted confirmed what some of us know regarding the power of the PM in our parody of a Westminster system. There is an inevitability to outcomes.
@NO
They have no backbone to protect the independence of the public service because the long arm of the political directorate can reach them.
David
What is real and what is not.
Pacha…they will not call an election…they will be FORCED to pack all their georgie bundles and leave, they want to make it a spectacle as is their want…happened in 2018…after 10 years of pure corruption with the same scam king maloney and all the other parasites in the fraudulent social partnership..
it has been acknowledged that this particular scam is government directed…can’t back out of it now, they were the facilitators…from the beginning..we don’t need a Judge in Florida to show us this…and no amount of local legal grandstanding will change that…populations particularly in Barbados and especially across the Caribbean have been complaining for years about the corrupt RUN ON THE TREASURIES that pauperize population…and push back progress by decades.
@Pacha
Answer this question honestly- would a call for Mottley to resign over this matter be entertained by the majority of Barbadians?
@ David
While technically we are supposed to function under the Westminister system what we really have here now is 30 to 0 dictatorship with no real opposition. I think we all need to wake up and realise that. We are no longer part of a process, but now told the process as was the case with the Republic approach. In other words ” we doing this so wunna hush.”
@John A
The last administration had a slim majority and did not enjoy the level of political capital of the current government – did it make a difference?
No!
David
There are few ways to test such. One being an election.
But this question is not the issue. The issue is that it is you who pretend Westminster governance but are prepared to follow none of its principles.
Let us put it this way for you to better understand. If your jesus christ was PM and he led or was involved in this scandal he should be made to resign and call an election because the principles of governance are more important than any rasssoul body.
Mia Amor Mottley has changed a manifesto by stealth, has backed away from your misguidance of integrity legislation as we warned you she would, has broken her referendum solemn promises and now is at the centre of an international scandal.
You should tell us. Could she too kill somebody in Broad Street and not lose a vote? This is a more pertinent question. What more political crimes does she have to commit to lose your deep affection?
@Pacha
What Westminster system what!
David
Is yours a disavowal of the much bragged about Westminster styled system ahead of republicanism?
The people understand very well what they did and want them ALL GONE FROM BLACK LIVES. They know their lives at risk thanks to sellouts and the corrupt. Mia will not get away with this one.
“He paid $10m to scammers for vaccines that he subsequently marked up at three times market value.
The next step was to make his sale to the Barbados Government. He was not donating them.
Then pocket his profits and probably share with whoever.
The documents show all of his actions were condoned by the Barbados Government from Permanent Secretary to Prime Minister. All of them know the right and correct way to buy drugs for Barbados people.
He got robbed and that’s how Bajans found out.
The spin by the BLP is that everybody is innocent and he is a good guy doing us a favour.
If I did not have my vaccine already I would not want it now.
This Mia Mottley Government cannot be trusted. Tell you one thing. Does another. The cement man may have ended up importing salt water in the little bottles.
Fed up with them periodtttt!”
Lorenzo
Ms Mottley has spoken of the politicising of this issue by Ms Depeiza , Rev Atherley and the noisemakers on here as she has a right to do.Furthermore she dtsted (stated) a full accounting will be done in parliament come tuesday. What the hell more you and the noisemakers want.As they would say NEXT.

Lorenzo did u not hear Mottley launching a full body attack on Verla
How can Mottley dare open mouth to talk about politicizing any thing
Has she forgotten the South West Sewage problem and what about Cahill and Clico and the water problem that plagued drought stricken areas
Also the downgrades
Now tell me that I am wrong by saying Mottley had no say in the invoking politics into those burning issues
Now Mottley comes out slinging political words like mud at the opposition and then talks about politicizing the issue
Well u tell Mottley that the people does not like Barbados name drag in the mud associated to scam artist crooks and scalliwags
If Mottley wants to talk about mud first tell the people how she is going to clean up the mud that is now plastered Barbados name on the front pages of news papers
Also be transparent in telling where and who she bought the mop for the clean up when speaking in Parliament
Xxxxxxxxcxx
I hope some one would launched a signature campagain calling for a no confidence vote against Mottley and hand the signed results to the opposition in effort to motivate him into doing something of worth to preserve Barbados democratic process and it’s integrity
@Pacha
All of us are working through a process.
I’m not sure where this mythical Westminster system is to be found and suspect it is a romantic notion from fairy tale yore handed down via wisdom of elders. But, AstraZeneca is a UK product and Barbados should have used it’s links with GB via embassies, PMs, Manufacturers etc in it’s efforts to secure 4-500,000 doses for it’s needs. It would have made more sense to procure American vaccines like Pfizer from USA.
This message fell off the back of a truck

To our prison minister Mia Mottley: please confirm or deny that you traveled on Mark Maloney’s private Jet, to the UN meeting where you delivered an excellent speech at the United Nations general assembly?
To: embattled minister of health and wellness Jeffery Bostic confirm or deny that as stated by you in a recent interview by Barbadostoday online newspaper that you denied any knowledge of Maloney covid-19 “vaccinate” purchase on the behalf of the government of Barbados?
To the ubiquitous Mark Maloney, were the documents to transfer US$10.5 million through the Central Bank of Barbados above board.
I’m a supporter of the BLP, but have my conscience to live with. We need answers before we move forward to Republic status. This is above partisan politics, it’s about integrity and honesty.
“Now Mottley comes out slinging political words like mud at the opposition and then talks about politicizing the issue.”
“……….. slinging political words like mud at the OPPOSITION?”
What “OPPOSITION” are you referring to?
As far as I’m aware, Atherley is the Opposition Leader and the PdP the official Opposition poitical party.
The DLP is just another political party similar to Solutions Barbados and UPP.
What is not escaping people are the RISKS associated with the Mia Maloney scam to source from people who could easily have filled those bottles with POISON and wipe out a large presentage of those who showed up for innoculation….she is showing that even if the thought entered her mind, which i doubt, too damn greedy, that it was not a concern…how the hell would any of them know what that clown maloney was buying…….but anything to promote these criminals ahead of the people who elected her….this is her swan song..
Pacha…it’s a stretch to get people to realize that the system to which they have become way too accustomed has ALREADY BEEN REPLACED and they do not even know…..i can’t expend energy on such any more…so they better get on their A game…as i said, the most that can be done is a disseminatoin of information so they can EDUCATE THEMSELVES GOING FORWARD…if they want, it’s a personal choice or stay stuck deep within a dead system that no longer exists…their choice..
they can’t say they dont know since Mia was running around like she was on fire begging Pope White Dress and whoever would listen to her bullshit babble, for a new world order.
The nonsense some of you post by yanking comments from the nether regions is beyond the pale.
Well we know that ya can’t just transfer 10.5 million dollars US through any central bank just so…..so we wait for something else to “fall of the truck” as confirmation….these days ya can’t even get over $1,000 out without grief..

U know all have memories which can be used to fit their purpose
Time and change goes hand in hand
Xxx
My memory purpose me to ask what does the above u posted have any thing to do with the vaccine scam and Mia leadership
Xxxxx
So what if I had at one point endorsed her becoming leader of the blp
Should the endorsement of that time not allow me to change my mind after three years of unusual ethical conduct practices and behavior by Mottley
I am certain u have heard me in a vexing and disgusting mode painfully speaking on her poaching Ross from Dominica
A state which was experiencing hellish economic conditions
Not meaning to digress
Again I ask what does my pass endorsement have to do on the realities presently at hand
@ David
Not disagreeing with you on that comment at all about the last party having a slim majority, but I see this situation more concerning and the below is why.
A. We now have for the first time a 30 to 0 government capable of changing our constitution as they will and passing any law they wish to.
B. We have one of the worst and weakest oppositions we have had since independence. There is no Barrow and Adams situation here!
C. We have the poorest level of 4th estate we have ever had. The only real journalist we had that would poke the bear has not been silenced.
One could call this the perfect storm for “doing as wunna want” in.
Pacha..these are in for a REAL mind altering SHOCK…
my energy is all used up and now must be redirected..
@John A
Are you sure about changing the Constitution? Have you forgotten what occurred before the last parliament was prorogued with integrity bill?
