The blogmaster must admit that following the platforms of ALL political parties campaigning in the St. George by-election has been a slog. In Bajan parlance- boring is shyte.

The highlights- negative for the BLP (time will tell)- of the campaign have been 79 year old Delisle Bradshaw’s statement ‘any idiot can play cricket’ and the questioning of Gline Clarke’s dual citizenship. A press report in today’s Nation confirmed that Clarke always intended to renounce Canadian citizenship. One is left to speculate why BLP political strategists allowed the issue to grow wings by not getting ahead of it

For the blogmaster the appearance of Rawdon Adams on the SGN campaign trail makes for interesting rumshop discussion. Minister Santia Bradshaw (daughter of Delisle Bradshaw) reference to pedigree has set political tongues wagging with cries of elitism. What is it about the Bradshaws!

It is no secret the blogmaster has a lot of time for Senator Adams. His unflappable style, obvious intelligence, exposure to the outside and yes ‘pedigree’ and heritage equips him to be as good as or better than any other candidate. His entry to local politics would in the opinion of the blogmaster add value to the political landscape of Barbados. The obvious conclusions being made by onlookers is that he will be declared a candidate coming soon. Others suggest it is a case of Adams answering a call by Mottley for ALL Bees to swarm SGN.

For those who missed Adam’s presentation forward to 2hrs 40m of the YouTube video.

  1. Clarke to give up Canadian citizenship
FORMER Member of Parliament for St George North, Gline Clarke, will be renouncing his Canadian citizenship before he takes up the post of Barbados’ High Commission to that North American country.
This disclosure was made yesterday by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, who is accusing the Opposition People’s Party for Democracy and Development (PdP) of trying to make a mountain out of a molehill on a matter that was decided months ago.
She was referring to comments made last week by PdP member and Opposition Senator Caswell Franklyn, who pointed out that Clarke’s dual citizenship prohibited him from getting the post in Ottawa.
However, speaking to the media after the nomination of Barbados Labour Party candidate for St George North, Toni Moore, Mottley said it was an issue that had been settled months ago. “This Sodabix politics of irrelevance that is coming out of the opposition parties, this notion of Gline having dual citizenship, is rubbish. The first time I had a conversation with Gline Clarke, even before he decided to accept the job and retire, he pointed out that he already held Canadian citizenship. We discussed then that he would have to give that up in order to take the job,” she said.
Franklyn had charged that Mottley had the dual citizenship holder and the people of Barbados tied up.
“She proposed to make him High Commissioner and didn’t tell the . . . man that he cannot be the High Commissioner to Canada because you cannot be a High Commissioner to your own country. Gline Clarke is a citizen of Canada,” he said.
“As a High Commissioner from Barbados, you are not subject to the laws of that country, but if you’re a citizen of that country, you’re subject to the laws . . . . He can’t go unless he relinquishes his citizenship,” he added.
However, Mottley fired back, accusing the PdP of grasping at straws, thereby watering down Barbados’ brand of politics while distracting from serious issues. She argued that with the gravity of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Barbados’ economy, now was the time for politicians to elevate the country’s discourse on serious issues.
“You have persons trying to elevate distractions to give newspapers front page stories. It
is an irrelevant consideration. We want to hear talk about how we can position ourselves to get as many people working again. We should be discussing how we can position ourselves to recover from the economic circumstances and to consider where we would have been had we not restructured our debt.
“These things can only happen by focusing on serious issues. I am begging, the people of Barbados demand more and require more at this stage,” she stressed. (CLM)

  2. Estwick quits post at Transport Authority
THE BARBADOS TRANSPORT AUTHORITY and the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) seem to be in turmoil.
Four months after new Minister of Transport, Works and Water Resources, Ian Gooding-Edghill, took oversight of both entities, two board members from the Transport Authority have tendered their resignations and there are indications that more may follow.
Reports reaching the DAILY NATION revealed that chairman Ian Estwick and board member Stephen Williams have both resigned from the Transport Authority.
When contacted yesterday and asked if he had indeed resigned, Estwick, who implemented many progressive changes at the Transport Authority, replied “yes”.
However, he did not indicate why.
It is understood that he submitted his resignation on Friday while Williams resigned on Saturday.
Sources revealed that members of the board were frustrated following several attempts to have a meeting with Gooding-Edghill after he took over the portfolio.
One source said Estwick wrote to the minister several times requesting a meeting but no response had been forthcoming.
The source said more resignations could follow not only from that state entity, but also from the BWA.
It is understood that a major investigation is under way at the BWA involving a temporary female employee, and several disparaging and vile voice notes which have been circulating both inside and outside the Pine, St Michael headquarters of the statutory corporation about senior members of staff.
Sources revealed that the employee at the centre of the dispute had been previously terminated but was brought back in August on the orders of a senior Government official.
Staff are said to be so uneasy that they are planning to walk off the job if the matter involving the circulation of the voice notes was not dealt with as a matter of urgency.
When reached yesterday evening, Gooding-Edghill said he was not aware of any of the two situations since he had been in a meeting during the day. (MB)

  3. Nothing sketchy about Press reveal, says AG
ATTORNEY GENERAL DALE MARSHALL says there was not anything untoward about the media receiving a copy of the court document showing leader of Solutions Barbados Grenville Phillips II’s application for a judicial review of the process in which Bishop Joseph Atherley was appointed Opposition leader.
After the nomination process for the St George North by-election at the Valley Resource Centre, The Glebe, yesterday, Phillips questioned how the story made the last SUNDAY SUN.
    “They leaked it to the
NATION because on the front page of the SUNDAY SUN there was [a picture of] the copy that I delivered. It didn’t fall of any truck; I handdelivered it to the Attorney General’s Office and they stamped it. The only ones that have copies are the AG’s office and me,” he said.
Phillips queried the timing, saying the story appeared the day before Nomination Day. He urged the media to question Marshall if he had leaked the document and why, when it was filed in July.
In response, Marshall said the document was public and urged Phillips to make himself aware of the process.
“I understand Mr Phillips is suggesting there was mischief afoot regarding that document which was served to my office, like if there is something wicked with the Press seeing it. That is not so.
“Basically, any civil suit in Barbados is public, so those documents filed in the High Court are in the public registry and any member of the public, including him, can ask to have a certified copy of them,” he said.
Marshall said Phillips was treating the issue like a major scandal, but it made no sense to keep it a secret.
“It would be pointless not to give the Press a copy simply because it is already available at the registry, so to make a big deal about it is absurd. Justice that is not done in the glare of day and is concealed is not justice at all. If he wanted to keep secrets, he should not have filed it in the court at all,” he said.
In the story, Marshall was quoted as saying Phillips was “definitely” suing Government but Phillips said he was
not suing anyone, simply seeking clarification. (CA)

When it is all said and done the BEST CANDIDATE for SGN may not be elected.

GRAVILLE PHILLIPS II may find himself on the outside looking in. NOT THAT HE IS NOT THE BEST CANDIDATE.

We don’t always choose the best candidate.

Remember BARRABAS?????? Pontius Pilate freed him at the Passover feast in Jerusalem, He .was chosen by an over whelming MAJORITY of the people. A decision which was regretted up until today.

    Just remember that.

  5. We must celebrate unflappable intelligence, especially if it is backed with an MSc in something called political sociology from the LSE, and experience in the UK Treasury and a bit of crypto-currency expertise.
    Wow! A future prime minister.

this is the highest grade of codswallop i have read in a while. a certain set of bajans like to be fooled and will be fooled. “exposure to the outside”? that is shitted upon everyday on this blog sometimes with a “steeeups” too.

i am v disappointed by above quote. we deserve whatever we get.

  7. @Greene

    No surprise from you.

    Next.

  8. On the Moore/Glyne affairs, why is it that after matters are discussed to death that we then hear “That is a nothing burger, he or she resigned/planned to give up citizenship days/month ago”.

  9. This should not be seen as an attack but a true statement delivered in an unflattering manner.

The blogmaster has a strong penchant for ass licking. He is easily swayed by a person’s education, title or political connections.

  10. @Greene

The blogmaster was going to blog about the DLP’s platform re why the hell is Verla inviting Sealy, Boyce, Lashley, Sylvan et al on Floyd’s platform?

    #madness

  11. @David,

it is nonsense to be proposing legacy candidates. that you are not surprised is no revelation to me. again i am v disappointed that some bajans are afflicted by this disease. pray tell, what is it about Adam that you are so ready to anoint him? pedigree and heritage? in this day and age? what tripe?

  12. @Greene

Legacy is the only characteristic the blogmaster listed? By the way, is Rawdon a candidate? Also why should legacy be held against Rawdon if he is preferred at the polls? You job will be for the DLP to beat his ass if he runs.

  13. like i said there are a certain set of bajans who go in for this legacy, pedigree, heritage crap. if Adams runs in St Thomas he will be overwhelmingly elected but that doesnt mean it makes sense. people vote against their best interest consistently for a number of reasons beyond me to understand.

if you are care to, maybe you can explain what this means- “His unflappable style, obvious intelligence, exposure to the outside and yes ‘pedigree’ and heritage equips him to be as good as or better than any other candidate.”

  14. @ Greene

Here is a manifesto for elitism, opportunity, privilege, the old family connections, call it what you like. Can you now see why ordinary working class children are kept out of the commanding heights of the nation? Why those who cheat their way in to Harrison College and why it is a nursery for the ruling class? Do you now understand why we have never in our history had an inheritance or death tax?
When I say Barbados is a failed state some protest; it is still a slave plantation and the new plantation owners and drivers are fellow blacks, only of a higher breeding.
Have you seen the nonsense of the president condemning the DLP for not playing war games with her with some silly TV debate, and she has brought in the name of Barrow to justify her crybaby antics.
They should tell her to get out in St George North and bring Rawdon the MSc in political sociology, to tell people in St George that we are all in this together, that he feels the pain of a family eating from day to day.
The DLP should tell them to bring it on; if people in St George are so blind that they believe they are on the same side as Rawdon the sociologist, they are sillier than can be imagined.
By the way, has he got a Barbadian, UK and French passport? Is he really one of us? Breeding is no proof of cultural identity.

What is this ”political pedigree”” We about all of a sudden???

These people appear to be “”entitled””. people, what ”political pedigree” did ERROL BARROW HAVE, GEORGE FURGUSSION HAVE , WYNTER CRAWFORD HAVE, ERMA BOURNE HAVE???

These modern day ”political pedigree people” are screaming out, ”you must vote for us , you have no choice””. This is something unfortunately started by MAM. During the General Elections she said that she had “political pedigree”. The first time I heard that term used. They believe it is their right to support the 3% of our population. And give the crumbs to their race who form 97% of the population.

Now the blog master using it with great relish.

  16. Carson C. Cadogan Avatar
    Carson C. Cadogan

    It is ALL OVER NOW.

You can only vote for “political pedigree” candidates from the BARBADOS LABOUR LABOUR. Those who would faithfully serve the 3% of the population..

We are really going backward under the BARBADOS LABOUR PARTY. The more time passes the more we revert to SLAVERY DAYS..

    What next?????

  17. @Hal,

Adams and his brother used to catch the school bus from the fairchild street bus terminal to go home to Walkers Heights in St George where they lived. to that extent they have some idea how ordinary people lived. beyond that i doubt.

i will tell you this. i worked in a certain government department for a bit before i left Bim. what we did because of Tom’s gambling and other issues left a bad taste in my mouth. coupled that with what my Dad told me about other issues are what soured me to the BLP. in addition a cawmerian had reason to tell Tom something at the Hilton Hotel. and Tom told him that he would never work in Bim again and he never did. so i would like to understand this legacy and pedigree BS that David spouting

  18. @ Greene

Taking the same bus as huskers and other poor students does not mean they shared the pain of poverty. As Prince Harry recently said, he did not understand racism until his marriage.
Same with the LSE sociologist, by taking a bus does not mean he knows or understands the pain of poverty. I am embarrassed that we share the same passport, farless anything else.
What is political legacy in a meritocracy? The servant always talks about how wonderful the master of the house is? That is why we have had field slaves, and house slaves. They see two different sides of the master.
However, I am never surprised about the politics of BU and its chairman.

  19. David

It appears that this writer has sparked a bit of a fire storm.

Tom Adams was arguably a better politician than his father. Indeed, he might have been the best Bajan politician, by far.

But there is never any certainty that Rawdon Adams will have the same or better political instincts as/than his father.

This is amongst the new and emerging issues our country will more and more have to deal with in coming years, posed by this generation of the Adams family or the next. Or any other political tribe.

Rawdon Adams has so far seemed disinclined to enter the fray, maybe the political bug has now bitten.

  20. @Pacha

Yes, a story that has emerged and must be vented on BU’s pages. Rawdon can do no worse to compare with many MPs today.

    @Greene

What the blogmaster wrote stands on its own, it needs no clarification. Watch his delivery portrayed on the YouTube vid posted. The ingredients are there, all of us are opinining and hypothesizing. NOBODY can speak with certainty what a finished product Rawdon may turn out to be. It does not prevent others, including you, from being certain of the outcome in the mould of a Nostradamus.

  21. @Greene

A reminder you missed this question posted at 7:05AM.

  22. “Rawdon can do no worse to compare with many MPs today. ”

from what little i know of probability and commonsense, yes he can.

to your other points. we seem enamoured by a well put together speech and a fluent speaking style. but ultimately we must- judge a person not by words, but by deeds

  23. @Greene

You are not colliding with the simple point that yours is just an opinion like others on the blog.

    Now answer the question.

  24. But yet the Gline story isnt closed
As a minister the question has arisen to his legality of having dual citizens whereby the Constitution of barbados gives a resounding No
Since Kemar can be held into account for illegalities in breaking the law
So can the same measurement of law be applied to Gline who sat in the House of Parliament during a period of time he attained dual citizenship
Hope on the campaign trail this issue would take a foot hold as a reminder that the blp takes their pedigree status beyond and above abiding by the law

  25. @David,

if you are referring to the bit about Richard Sealy etc.. i didnt miss it i preferred to focus on the Adams nonsense. why not see what Adams has to offer before anointing him?

to the other point. i am on record as saying that from the last DLP government i only have time for Richard Sealy and Stephen Lashley in front line politics . the others can serve in the periphery.

it seems to me that Verla must be getting some traction in this regard to continue along the lines of using them. good for her. the DLP is doing the right thing. fighting this battle in their own way- grass roots. that is where the DLP must return. let MAM gripe all she wants.

i was in contact with some of my overseas peeps in the SGN area. they are voting for Floyd

  26. The blogmaster is bold to ask how come ‘big mout’ lawyers like Guyson Mayers and Verla De Peiza did not know of Kemar’s indiscretion which occurred in 2008, however, they allowed him to run for GS of the party at mid term government? They must have known the case would have been scheduled at some point- Barbados is a small place.

  27. William Skinner Avatar

This is a brilliant move by the Blogmaster. Instructed perhaps from on high or his expressed interest in young Adams, he has decided to “ feel out” the BU readers.
I will be very honest; for a first time campaign/ platform speech, the man did pretty well.
However, at this stage I don’t see anything near his famous political DNA.
That being said , @ Hal and @ Greene are absolutely correct. He will be anointed as the chosen one.
The more we change the more we remain the same.
As for Grenville. He has never won a seat, is in the midst of an election and he wastes no time in declaring this is his final contest. And I’m here asking myself suppose he wins.
    Things get curiouser and curiouser.

  28. @Greene

You chose to ignore the more substantive issue that affects the party you support? The Rawdon blog is a side topic for the moment. The truth is like the DLP running from the debate you are running from the fact old faces the electorate rejected less that 3 years ago have appeared on a platform LOL.

  29. @David

i have re read the piece and i am yet to understand or put into context this bit- “His unflappable style, obvious intelligence, exposure to the outside and yes ‘pedigree’ and heritage equips him to be as good as or better than any other candidate.”

yes that it is an opinion and yes we all have one. but that ought to be explained further

  30. @ William

Public speaking is an art, which can be taught. It is not a legacy. I did not find it exceptional Just a speech by an intelligent man, even if one whose credentials are exaggerated.

  31. @William

This blog was inspired by a question from Pacha yesterday. The blogmaster has not hidden our respect for Rawdon over the years. This is recorded on BU’s pages. Unlike some here the blogmaster is never afraid to share his opinion. It defines what a blogmaster is suppose to be.

    #capiche?

  32. It is no secret the blogmaster has a lot of time for Senator Adams. His unflappable style, obvious intelligence, exposure to the outside and yes ‘pedigree’ and heritage equips him to be as good as or better than any other candidate
    +++++++++++++
    Wow!!! Just WOW!

I agree with Greene’s criticism of that statement, what has Rawdon done to merit such praise? Ah mean in a 30 man cabinet Mia didn’t even appoint him as dog catcher and she had Rowe as a Parliamentary secretary.

I don’t follow debates in the Senate but if he stood out it is news to me, his appearance on this political platform is probably a dry run for the “legacy” seat.

  33. @Sargeant

The blogmaster unlike you have been following his speeches and his travails to date and is entitled to an opinion.

    #atease

  34. David

We have listened to Rawdon Adams and are not at all impressed. For a man who supposedly has international exposure we are surprised how given he seems to be to glaze over the signal failure of the government. He seems irrational, at least in part. He certainly is not like his father. He is certainly no Tom Adams.

  35. @Pacha

You are intelligent to appreciate that the true test and qualities of a person will emerge given the situation. Rawdon has done enough to show that he is in the race. Can he win the race is left to be seen. The point is that he should not be written off because he is Tom Adams son or Grantley Adams grandson.

  36. @David,

i am well familiar with the use of rhetoric to sway people. it is not rocket science. it is based on psychology. people loved to be fooled and they like to be fooled by some one speechifying in sweet sounding words not sounding like them or telling them the hard truth. barristers do it all the time.

i am beyond that. let see what Adams is about before we anoint him. i am one who is dead set against legacy candidates in any form. they must be special for me to change my mind about that. my ‘exposure to the outside” makes me v sceptical

  37. @Greene

Agree with your comment. Liz Thompson referred to platform speaking as edutainment.

By the way Mia if you watched her presentation on the same Youtube promised an ALL female platform next Sunday.

  38. peterlawrencethompson Avatar
    peterlawrencethompson

Rawdon is no Tom. He is intelligent, but he lacks the passion which made his father an effective leader. Now that passion is itself a poisoned chalice, because it is the same characteristic that led to Tom’s worst behaviour, but it is impossible to effectively lead Bajans if you lack it. It is likely that the BLP will retire Cynthia Forde and offer Rawdon nomination in St. Thomas in 2022, but I’m not sure that such a move would be a good for Barbados or for Rawdon himself.

  39. David
Maybe we hold Tom Adams in too high an esteem as a politician. Maybe!

  42. like i have said, i dont know why Bajans continue to be chuffed about Tom. it tells that you all didnt really know the man. the things we had to do in my govt department to compensate for his failings would grow heads. my dad had it worse where he worked.

Bree St John was a different story. public and personal personas intrigued me from then

  43. Oh dear, I am about to commit a major sin, but was Tom Adams that good a speaker of politician? Is it not once more Plato’s Allegory?
I have herd Enoch Powell, Tony Benn, Stokeley Carmichael, CLR James, et al and would not compare Tom Adams with them as a speaker. As a politician, the man was a failure.. But, then again, I did not live under him as prime minister.

  44. or

  45. All ah telling them is that people ARE FED UP Enuff with the evil shite they do at the supreme court, they too love to violate the HUMAN RIGHTS of the elderly, IGNORE and DISMISS the human rights RATIFIED legislations to which they are signatory….people are PREPARED TO EXPOSE ALL OF THIS….so the judges at supreme court can continue their little parade…

see the HYPOCRISY…these are the same lowlife lawyers who want to penalize people for speaking about their cases that are SABOTAGED by both them and judges….matters that are public knowledge, you can’t speak out when they use the supreme court to VIOLATE THE RIGHTS of vulnerable people, elderly, young etc…..but all of a sudden it’s PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE but ONLY in the midst of a by-election…

“Mr Phillips needs to understand that in our system of justice, documents that are filed in litigation are public documents. So, any citizen of Barbados has the right to walk into the Supreme Court Registry and, except in family law matters, you are able to… request a copy of the documents. That is the nature of our High Court Registry because justice is something that flourishes in the light of day. So, it is not a question of leaking any document to the public or to the Press,” he added

  46. PLT
Thanks for your comment. You have said what we wanted to. For some here are so wedded to ignorance they insert speaker for a politician to make a point more susceptible to their frame. We are talking about Tom v Rawdon as politicians not meagre speakers.

And to bring people who are not from Barbados is just foolishness. A foolishness which constructively changes the nature of the point made.

  47. “These people appear to be “”entitled””. people, what ”political pedigree” did ERROL BARROW HAVE, GEORGE FURGUSSION HAVE , WYNTER CRAWFORD HAVE, ERMA BOURNE HAVE???”

the pedigree of DESCENDANTS OF SLAVES…that they all KEEP RUNNING FROM…but to continue running and hiding from their past…they have to CONTINUE BEGGING THE DESCENDANTS OF SLAVES FOR VOTES……….😂🤣😂🤣

  48. @Pacha

Tom was the consummate political animal.

  49. David
And it was Barrow, himself, who said so. But historically, Crawford was our preference.

  50. How does public speaking define the all round ability of a political leader? Leaders often will emerge, often times it is the incumbent leader who demonstrates leadership by creating room for others to do their thing. In other words nobody commenting at this stage can be conclusive about whether Rawdon, if given the chance, will or will not be such a person.
