Your message to the BLOGMASTER was sent

Some of us are looking to the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) later this month with more than a little interest. It is after all the other half of the duopoly that has ‘ruled’ Barbados without serious challenge for the last 60+ years. Since its decimation at the polls in 2018 the electorate has observed President Verla De Peiza struggling to keep pace with her counterpart. All agree De Peiza was dealt a bad hand, however, she accepted the job and it is what it is. The AGM will give Barbadians the opportunity to acquire a more informed position.

The DLP brand despite the unprecedented defeat in 2018 is ‘seared’ into the political psyche of Barbadians. This has made it difficult for a third political party to create a foothold to offer serious challenge to the duopoly. In the short term the electorate will have to make do with the main combatants being DLP versus BLP contest in 2023 when the next general election is constitutionally due.

To the surprise of many including the blogmaster there has been the appearance of the ‘old guard’ offering themselves as candidates for posts. Of interest is the contest between George Pilgrim who will challenge Verla De Peiza for the presidency of the party. Pilgrim was the long standing general secretary of the DLP during an unflattering time. As hard as the blogmaster tried to apply logic to Pilgrim’s decision to challenge De Peiza, there is no logic except to state the obvious- it is his democratic right to run if he satisfied the nomination criteria of the party.

The blogmaster anticipates De Peiza will overcome Pilgrim’s challenge, she must because he is a weaker candidate. Pilgrim represents everything the electorate rejected in the DLP two years ago. There is no credible alternative on show with the 2023 general election appearing in the political rear view mirror. You may recall the result of the vote in the DLP stronghold of St. John between Charles Griffith and George Pilgrim. The final result Griffith 2,963 to Pilgrim 1598. Should the performance in a general election influence internal nominations and elections? Political parties are in the business of harvesting popularity. The DLP needs a president guaranteed to inspire members of the party and to be the architect of a good strategic and tactical plan. Members of the DLP have hobson’s choice, what gives De Peiza the edge is that the DLP headquarters located at George Street was literally allowed to rot under Pilgrim’s watch.

A political party is defined as an organised group of people with at least roughly similar political aims and opinions, that seeks to influence public policy by getting its candidates elected to public office.

The Electoral Knowledge Network

Given the design of our political setup the DLP is a private entity and is permitted to manage its affairs as outlined in its constitution. Decisions taken at party conference however have implications for the country especially in an entrenched duopoly. We have an inkling what is De Peiza’s plan – see link. There is no recent update on Pilgrim’s Facebook page to indicate he is politically active.

In both parties over the years we have seen a tendency to recycle the same old, same old. Rising apathy should be a barometer for political parties that the public is expecting more or expect to be punished with laughter at the polls. Unfortunately a vibrant democracy requires more from citizens than placing an X every five years.

  1. The business class and the local chapter of the KKK need the DLP to suppress the black masses in Barbados. Only the DLP ensures economic decline and chaos.

  2. Row over pending appointment
It looks like bare bacchanal is about to take place at a certain Government hotspot now that a new head honcho is in charge.
Sources told Cou Cou that the pot is about to boil over after a certain damsel, who was formerly romantically linked with the new kingpin, has been parading up and down and telling everyone that she will be moving up the line.
Apparently a major position is about to be filled and this woman has been behaving as if the job is already hers, on the premise that her former flame will be making the final decision.
But it will not be water under the bridge for some staff members who are up in arms over the impending appointment.
In fact, they have sent a warning that unless her loud expectations are flushed down the drain, they will turn the screws on the organisation if this move comes to pass.
They say her plans for the position should only be a pipe dream as there are others more qualified for the post, and they will not let this type of favouritism see the light of day.
The upset workers said with the organisation’s long history of political partisanship and at times acrimonious relationships, the new management should be looking to start off things on the right foot and not let personal relationships take precedence.
They are just asking the new man to let good judgment prevail and not to go down the wrong road.
    **********
A big event at the end of this month may prove the undoing of some in an institution steeped in politics. The “George Street” family is being warned that unless that annual event is properly handled, it could break down irreparably some of the fragile relationships. That’s because some are whispering about an “ole boys network” at play.
The emergence of an old face as a challenger for one of the major positions is giving some validity to the claim that a group may be manoeuvring to
make a strike. It seems the madam has not been able to get full control of the ship since there are some who refuse to offer true support or get out the way.
Rather, they have decided that they won’t go “gentle into that good night” as their former leader, a man known for his quotes, has done. He kept his word from that fateful night in May 2018 when he looked around and there was not a man/woman at his left or his right in the aftermath of a massacre. He accepted responsibility and bowed out.
    Not so for some others.
While they are looking for a return to former glory, others believe all their appearance will do is further hurt the image of the fractured organisation.
But the advice to those who keep boasting about what they have or have not done, and why they should be back, is to support the leadership and new blood. They are being told by those on the sideline to support rather than hinder, if not the wilderness could be their home for a long time.

  3. David the same obsession which has taken control of your mind within all that is happening at George St. David you should use to speak to the deteriorating economic and social conditions happening in Barbados
Right now Barbados is the grips of economic and social meltdown
Everyday local business are being closed
Homes are undergoing foreclosures as banks extended time periods given because of Covid has expired
Schools are reopening and parents are saying they do not have the funds to buy necessities in time for their children to attend school
Mia hired tons of consultants with the mantra “many hands make light work” and these hands have not been of any value in steering the dreaded ship called barbados
None the less these hands are still opened to receiving their wages on time from the public purse while the masses suffer in silence

  4. You should concern yourself with a leaky roof and ramshackle windows at George Street HQ.

  5. @David,

you are full of ideas for growth and re growth. my organisation (the UK Cawmere old scholars) will back you if you throw your hat in the ring for the DLP leadership

  6. @Greene

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

    >

  7. @ Greene

Oh No! Not the chairman. He is so dumb it is embarrassing. The DLP deserves better.

  8. @ Mariposa

I think you have a very strong point that the chairman is a mole for the BLP. But it is my belief you are wrong. I think he is in the pay of the security service or services. He operates very much like a low-level insider, what we used to call a deniable operative.
He is obsessed with the DLP and its internal decision-making and it think it is to sow seeds of strife. I think he needs counselling.

  9. David maybe the dlp.can birrow an economic page from the blp
Encourage white shadows to help them out and even ramshackle George St. would be fix
    What do u think
Or better yet bliw up a building they think has no use and fix George St
    What you think

  10. @Hal

the chairman, as you call him, means well. in the land of the blind, the myopic is king

  11. @Greene

Do you know this blogmaster has read it all before?

You know what some say about the obsession of small minds with the extraordinary, others better endowed go with the ordinary.

  12. This the DLP’s top drawer. George Pilgrim and Verla Depeiza? You cannot be serious. But then, Froon was the DLP PM.

    A celebration of mediocrity.

  13. We have a ramshackle economy being managed by a PM who cant find any meaningful solutions
Her biggest concocted idea was “We gathering ” which was blown to pieces by COVID
Presently PM looking like a fish without water wanders hither and thither and yon telling the world come to Barbados to live
a country where the water system is broken
Limited land space to grow food to feed its people and even worst a dilapidated and ramshackle infrastructure for proper and sufficient mobility via transportation
But David got time to look into the affairs of George St.

  14. The ramshackle economy is why the DLP didn’t win a box, or was it one, in the last general election. On current trajectory it will lose 40 in 2023, or before.

@Greene … since when did the Old Scholars group in UK or any of the others any where else play politics so decisively…

We all know the members play their own political preferences but I didn’t realize YOUR org itself did too!

Btw you guys lambaste POTUS gazing yet do this poorrakey version of the DLP ‘thrills and spills’ … 😂amusing!

Cant we hear some real deal back room stuff on what’s really happening to cause the DLP HQ to go into a ‘dilapidated’ state…

And who are the exciting new names ready to launch…

Why cant Verla get traction … is she not considered savvy and smart enough; doesn’t she have the right connections and ability to get awesome fund raising… what’s up there.

The thrills need to be more interesting and ‘scandalous’ and the spills too! 🙃

  16. David this is what bajans are concerned about

    Another golden fb nugget

Are we not all in this together!!
How come the entertainers who back this administration can receive millions, while displaced workers are still waiting for unemployment benefits???

Why are we still paying taxes on water meters?
This administration shifted Abrams, yet the problems still exist,
Mr colin Jordan, why are those workers who were made redundant, not yet receiving any benefits?
How is it that certain companies can use the NIS as props for their businesses, while ordinary consumers can scarcely put food on their tables?
Have you no conscience concerning us??
What will it take for your administration to take heed of our plight??

We are waiting on your reply, as we may have a surprise for you.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!! WE’VE HAD ENOUGH OF YOUR WICKEDNESS.

  17. @David,

    no doubt.

to change the topic. i see in an article that Bertie Hinds is seemingly calling out Dale Marshall and Owen Arthur (RIP) more so, for not supporting his request for an independent investigation into the death of Pc Yarde when the forensic expert Annel had reported that Yarde died from the gun of his partner Pc Garrett. reportedly Arthur said, ‘not to spend his money that way and if Annel is the point man go with Annel.’ as it turned out Annel was wrong and if an independent investigation was mounted at that stage it would have so revealed saving the BPS some embarrassment.

    such is life.

  18. @Greene

This is one case that seeped into the public domain but as you know there is continual interference from the political directorate _ BLP and DLP _ in the police, court and other so-called independent sphere in civil society.

  19. @David,

you into Bermuda politics now? how does it match up with Bim’s ?

  20. @ac

Have no fear the blogmaster will run a couple more blogs before the AGM just for you.

  21. @Dribbler,

sarcasm man. even David saw that

  22. @Greene

The blogmaster is into politics period. The character of the political landscape of the islands is not dissimilar. The discipline from the chancellor of the exchequer lends more discipline to the finances.

  23. A stitch in time saves nine. Penny wise and pound foolish.

Bertie Hinds right to speak out. They should have let the man do his job.

  24. @David,

“The discipline from the chancellor of the exchequer lends more discipline to the finances.”

    what are you saying here?

  25. Let it be said
Indeed, disparaging the DLP does not translate to a win for the BLP. What we need now are sound and honest policies and not a continuation of the pre-election debate. Accept the win, move on and perform.

It amazes me that those who repeatedly pronounces the DLP as dead continues to beat it. There is an expression that we should all bear in mind “Nobody kicks a dead dog”.

Perhaps, this continuous thrashing of the dead DLP signals their fear of its resurrection or reincarnation or even their doubts of its demise

  26. David yuh put up as many post on the internal affairs of the dlp
    None of which interest me
My interest lays solely focus on an administration who has no answers to the dilapidated economic and social state of Barbados
Cannot forget the Covenant of Hope a promised made to the people by Mia
Now all one can see is a hopelessness of fear and despair bolting across the landscape
Any one asking or looking for answers to come from this less than Transparent govt is expecting too much
Govt set out on a path derived of smoke and mirrors and there is exactly where govt would stay

  27. I continue to hear of Verla’s ‘lack of traction’. Even those who should know better, repeat this chant without quantifying it anyway. It is like reading tea leaves and getting the answers that you want.

Where are the poll numbers to support this chant?

Have we reach a stage where we believe that we can speak things into being? Have we reached the point where we think our thoughts and desires are evidence of existence?

If that is true, then I will board my time-machine.. there are a few girls in the past ….

  28. Gazzerts
    Let me tell you
This govt already knows that dlp party has put together a field of contestants which would secure a win for the dlp in the next election
Hence you see Kirk Humphries already spending his weekends pounding the highways and byways of his constituents
David BU stepping up to do his bidding within an atmosphere to distract the major negative fallouts of this government inept performance

  29. @Mariposa,

whilst i support the DLP, as you do, you are v optimistic more so than i am. whilst the DLP may regain some seats, i dont see how anyone would vote them in as a Govt so soon after that post Thompson regime.

our best bet would be to lay out our plans, come with a revised political philosophy of the role of Govt etc and go from there

  30. @ Greene

Now you realise why I am always talking about his gobbledygook. It does not lend itself to understanding. He should just stick to writing as simply as, I presume, he speaks. I read his post and have been scratching my head to work out what he means.
Then he criticises @Mariposa, who is clear, thoughtful and intelligent.

  31. Do you remember this phrase “Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated”

A speechwriter for Verla’s could play with that phrase and grab a headline
“My traction’ has been greatly underestimated. Without conducting the required research, a few, for their own purposes and advantage, has assigned it a weight of zero. In doing so, they have insulted and discarded some Barbadians. This has been a continuous failing of this administration as they continue to see our islands as two camps …. (insert Mariposa’s charges here,)

  32. Yes i said a win
Let me also remind all the blp yardfowls that are still falling over themselves with the 30-0 win a win was all but handed over to them because the dlp supporters chose not to vote
This time around the dlp supporters would not be so foolish and blind sighted to repeat the same mistake again after seeing the economic turmoil heaped upon their heads by this govt and also a govt giving financial bail outs in the form of taxes while the average household is sucking salt

  33. @ Donna
You see what I mean. We were here beating up ourselves over some Irishman threatening to shut we down because his court case tekking too long. In the mean time a Deputy Commissioner of Police, admits publicly, that powerful government figures stopped him from doing his job.
See what ah tell yuh ?

  34. Mia hired all these outside e professional economic consultants which cannot or are clueless in having solutions to barbados economy
The dlp govt had homegrown advisors to help steer the ship during the global meltdown
Yet with all the help and fanfare present govt cannot show in two years any thing meaningful or viable to stave off the economy from further downward slide
We have the IMF applauding govt efforts at paying debt never mind the money is borrowed
Now when one look back and compare to what is presently being prescribed to restore faith in the barbados economy
One would have to be a gullton for punishment to say that these past two years are better economically for the country and its people
    Food bills up
    Rent increased
    Water fees astronomical
Gas and electricity way beyond the average person pocket book
Business closures which means households without jobs
    Welfare payments bottom out
The list goes on and on
Bees be gone a useless bunch
    No more smoke and mirrors

  35. Mariposa the DLP can win the next election led by Ms Depeiza or Mr Pilgrim two known losers at the polls. As Bush Tea wpuld say oh ma shirt. You really should be in comedy fest. The only way possible for these current Dems to win anything would be 5he return of the great Mr Errol Barrow no one else. However, i doubt Mr Barrow would want to see much of these jokers around him in my view. The other joker Austin ststes Mariposa is articulate and sensible.Well well Mariposa? She is as sensible as Ms Undecidef. Then again this idiot with the uk condiyion of talking pure shite as a knowall thought Mr Thompson would have been a great Prime Minister but could provide no ebidence as such. Finally David BU keep posting on the Dems as i know it will infuriate Mariposa and Austin.

  36. ” Political scientists appear baffled by the rationale and direction of the Mia Mottley administration ahead of the Governor General’s Throne Speech next week, describing it as an unusual development.”

” “That is a difficult one because we don’t even know why she prorogued Parliament and I have received no indications, evidence, or intel. to base a conclusion”, Belle told Barbados TODAY.”

    https://barbadostoday.bb/2020/09/12/throne-speech-mystery/

“They have however acknowledged that social, political, and economic disruption caused by COVID-19 may have forced the administration to take fresh guard.”

  37. Lorenzo Mariposa just learned a new word
“infuriate” i belive that word applies also to your mind set and having to defend this inept govt
Wuhoss even economist baffled by this govt policies
    What Next
I tell you a short walk out of parliament for govt
Ta ta Lorenzo have a great cou cou and flying fish day

  38. @ac

You forgot to add no cogent dissenting narratives coming from the George Street crew. Subtract Senator Caswell we are left with emptiness.

  39. David why do u insist on referring to Mariposa as “ac”
Be that as it may whatever floats your boat
On the topic of dissent have you not recently noticed that with this govt the dissenters are offered new post as with OSA who unfortunately did not last too long and his mouth was certainly closed forever
Now with the duffus Prescod where time would show him to an embarrassment on the global landscape as he fumbles around to make sense on the call for Reparations

  40. @Mariposa
Unlike the second member of the fan club, I will not support you when you doing a Don Quixote routine.

However, you have found a golden nugget in the past few days.

    You go girl.

  41. @David
I was hoping that the newly minted “Special Envoy” would have lent his voice to the Opposition corner of the Red Bishop but alas he has been coopted back into the hive.

BTW how much does a “Special Envoy” earn?

  42. @Sargeant

Good question, will the real journalists please stand up.

Not the those who are retired!

  43. Also how much Total combined are the costs of the consultants Negotiators and the miscellaneous advisors from the public purse

  44. Now that is a question worth posing.

  45. Meanwhile David keeps the BU audience in the dark
Social media keeps asking questions and enlightening their followers about the nasty deeds of this govt

Here ia another golden nugget taken from a fb page

If Barbadians are waiting for Mia to adhere to the constitution we are wasting our time.our prime minister has no conscience in upholding the laws concerning the masses.
With an absolute majority in parliament we could have had a better life. But the SELFISH attitude displayed by her Advisers seeks only to destroy the pillars that put them there.

There’s much that can be done by putting bajans back to work. INSTEAD they are servicing their political Base only.

    But time is the master.

  46. Can the Government continue to justify the extra ” Ministers in the Ministry of ” and Consultants ?

  47. Lorenzo
    Hants asking questions
    What say you

  48. Mariposa you and Hants can ask Ms Mottley directly when next you see her.I speak for myself not Ms Mottley capiche.

  49. Lorenzo
I do better i will send the questions to CNN
Mia new found favourite hot spot where she could hog the spotlight
Wow would be interesting to see CNN put Mia back side in the hot seat for once and watch Mia blow smoke in the interviewer face

  50. @ Pachamama

    “October Surprise”
    .
I’m going to keep this clean.

I Can’t believe a cyborg would deplete our intelligence with the likes of this A.. H…’s ludicrous rhetoric.

    You’re definitely a “D” and it ain’t DLP.

It was mid-January and Jordan Goudreau-Rambo, was itching to get going on a secret plan to raid Venezuela and arrest President Nicolás Maduro when the former special forces commando flew out of Miami to Colombia to meet with his would-be partner in arms.

To get there, Goudreau and two former Green Beret buddies relied on some unusual help: a chartered flight out of Miami’s Opa Locka executive airport on a plane owned by a Venezuelan businessman so close to the government of the late Hugo Chávez that he spent almost four years in a U.S. prison for trying to cover up clandestine cash payments to its allies.

The owner of the Venezuela-registered Cessna Citation II with yellow and blue lines, identified with the tail number YV-3231, was Franklin Durán, according to three people familiar with the businessman’s movements who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation. Durán over two decades has had numerous business ties with the socialist government of Venezuela, making him an odd choice to help a band of would-be-mercenaries overthrow Maduro, the handpicked successor of the late Chávez

Operation Gideon (Spanish: Operación Gedeón) was an unsuccessful attempt by Venezuelan dissidents and an American private military company, Silvercorp USA, to infiltrate Venezuela by sea and remove Nicolás Maduro from office in Venezuela. The plan involved entering the country by boat into Macuto port from 3 to 4 May 2020 in order to take control of Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetia, capture Maduro and other high-level figures in his government, and expel them from the country. The operation had been infiltrated by supporters of the Maduro government early on. Commentators and observers, including Guaidó officials who initially contracted with Silvercorp, described the operation as amateurish, underfunded, poorly-planned, having little or no chance of success, and a suicide mission.
The US Government or CIA had nothing to do with Goudreau-
Rambo and his gi joe action figures.

The US has the capability to send military ordinance via unmanned drone to Madero’s residents if they wanted him. Those desert storm boys were preoccupied with the bounty (Entrapment).

Leave Mia out of your bloody mouth piece mate.

De Barrow cult died with Thompson. God Bless his hole….Sorry I got big fingers. I meant Sole….🙏

For the record. I’m not a Trumpeter. However, they were the best cigarettes to date.
