If you do not tick any of the sicknesses in the table your chances of having a negative outcome to contracting Covid 19 maybe virtually zero.
I challenge anyone in or outside the medical community to identify a single individual who has died from Covid-19 that did not fall into one or more of these categories.
Also, age in and of itself is not a risk factor. It’s just that older people are more likely to have conditions that put them at risk. Otherwise centenarians would not be recovering.
It is the duty of everyone to adopt lifestyle habits that ensure they do not develop these conditions and put themselves at risk.
Old people are not dying from Covid-19 because they are old but because they are frail and sick.
Risk Factors for having negative outcome from COVID 19
Obesity
Diabetes and pre-diabetes
Hypertension
Heart disease
Asthma
Emphysema
COPD
Sleep apnea
Other respiratory conditions
Poor diet
Lack of exercise
Inadequate sleep
Chronic stress levels
Inadequate immune system function caused by cancer treatment or some other cause
Smoking
Excessive drinking
Sarcopenia

What is the purpose of this post? The factors have been publicized that can result in death.

Can anyone be sure their ancestors didn’t quietly pass on a predisposition for you to suddenly develop some of these? My vulnerability came on suddenly without notice . . . . and though it might not kill you, the virus will probably break you up permanently. Everyone is at risk and potentially risking others’ health.

Does the Barbadian experience support the implied hypothesis?

  4. @Bentley “Old people are not dying from Covid-19 because they are old but because they are frail and sick.”

    Really?

People do die of old. Billions and billions of people have died of old.

People die of covid + old.

If this is not the case i challenge you to find me a single living person who was born before January 1, 1903.

Italian and British medical experts are investigating a possible link between the coronavirus pandemic and clusters of severe inflammatory disease among infants who are arriving in hospital with high fevers and swollen arteries.”

Is there anything wrong with highlighting the most common health issues associated with COVID 19 patients?

Yes there is. It suggests that old age is the causative factor. SW is correct in pointing out the real factor the inflammation of the lungs, even among the very young. Age is therefore not the deciding factor.

No surprise how the virus started, they had said security was a problem from the beginning….the infection count seems to be slowly rising in Barbados.

    https://www.nationnews.com/nationnews/news/245356/pompeo-evidence-virus-lab-china

“Washington – Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Sunday there was “a significant amount of evidence” that the new coronavirus emerged from a Chinese laboratory, but did not dispute United States intelligence agencies’ conclusion that it was not man-made.

“There is a significant amount of evidence that this came from that laboratory in Wuhan,” Pompeo told ABC’s “This Week”, referring to the virus that emerged late last year in China and has killed about 240 000 people around the world, including more than 67 000 in the United States.”

  9. get a sea bath

  10. Pompeo is an idiot. If he has evidence then publish it. He wants to pick a fight with China as part of US desperation and to provide Trump with an excuse for his presidential defeat.

Is Bajan seawater antiviral? COVID is aerosol and not water borne?. Time to sell Bajan sea water as a remedy.

  12. @ Vincent,

To be clear. I am recommending a sea bath because it is what I would do if I was living in Barbados.

A sea bath is hust a nice thing to do.

They have found remnants of the virus in waste water that is already treated, don’t know if they have done any testing on sea water to say yea or nay..i guess we will find out eventually.

Agreed Pompeo is a warmonger. He wanted to start further fighting and the general commanding US forces went over his head and Trump stopped the move. Trump will get rid of him like he did with Bolton. As Trump has stated his biggest mistake was in the selection of personnel But the claims that the origins of the virus was Wuhan cannot be disputed. You anti-Trump stance is showing. Trump 2020.

  16. @ Robert

I am neither anti-Trump nor have any interest in US Congressional politics. What I find interesting is the US burning desire to start a fight with China for one reason, and one reason only: China is now the world most powerful economy, based on purchasing power parity, and will be by 2030 on all metrics.
Unlike the Europeans (Spain, Portugal, France, Holland, Britain, etc), the US is not temperamentally prepared to be second best. It will rather start a war.
The nonsense about Huawei is just part of the multi-prong attack; CoVid is another, so is the allegation of stealing AI and on and on. How many pandemics have we had since 1918, the so-called Spanish Flue, which, ironically, started in the US? Why is this one so special?
Another irony is that the US and its puppets are now demanding reparations from China, but black people have been calling for reparations for slavery to no avail. Only UWI, and Hilary Beckles, seem to squeeze the University of Glasgow.
Also look at the composition of the so-called five eyes, the spy net work – UK, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Anything jumps out at you? We are shaping up for a third world war.
China, officially the second biggest economy in the world, is still officially considered a developing nation. New Zealand, with a population slightly bigger than Jamaica’s, is considered developed. Anything odd about that? Taiwan is also developing; South Korea is also officially developing.
All empires have had to come to an end; the problem is that the US just cannot take it. By the way, as far as black people are concerned, they are all the same.

You have not responded to the fact that the virus started in Wuhan and that the Chinese fired /jailed their scientist who spoke out: that the Chinese government refused to donate samples of the virus from the Wuhan outbreak. This is an outrage from a scientific aspect. Countries may have differences, but scientists always share data to further the advancement of scientific knowledge. The data were needed to aid in the development of vaccines against the virus. You have seemingly forgotten the fact that in December 2019 and early January 2020 the Chinese knowing the dire nature of the virus bought up PPE and masks from foreign countries. This a documented fact, thereby creating a shortage of them which is a de facto act of war. Reparations are just talk. Pandemics 1957 and 1967. The Asian flu and the Hong Kong flu. All empires come to an end but the American one is not at an end yet. If it comes to war and it will the Americans will win.

  19. @RL

If it comes to war and it will the Americans will win.
    ++++++++++++

    You got that wrong:

    We will all lose

  20. A war in today’s world no winners. It is not like days of old with infantry with B52 giving cover.

  21. @ Robert

The virus came out of Wuhan, that much is accepted. But now is not the time for the blame game. We want a cure now and after that we can carry out a post mortem. The WHO has been full of praise for the Chinese authorities.
As to war, the US has a population of 350m, its key allies number about the same. China has a population of 1.4bn and the Chinese invisible empire is about 300m.
A third world war will not let anyone hide, not even little islands in the Caribbean.

  22. Trump and Modi are good buddies and India and China have their issues too!!

The only war Trump is into is a Trade War!!

    And America will win easily!!

China relies on the US market!!

  23. The US depends on China’s $3trn in treasuries.

  24. The economies of China and the US are interdependent and Trump knows it, there will be no winners in an economic war.

  25. The point of the list of co-morbidities for those afflicted is that it is more likely to die with COVID-19 than from it!!

Most men will die with prostate cancer, not from it even though prostate cancer is a killer.

Never looked at breast cancer but suspect it may be the same.

A woman with heart disease or asthma or whatever and breast cancer will most probably not die from breast cancer.

  26. There is a reason China has enjoyed favored trade status with the capitalist US which is anathema to China the communist state.

I made my position vis-a-vis WHO quite clear in my posting on BU of 4th. February 2020. I stated then that it was (still is) an incompetent organization which has been politicized to the nth. degree. It is a feather bed of sinecures for the political connected scientists. I also stated that the best scientists do not work for WHO but are found in research institutions. It is the latter who will come up with the vaccines. Remember the way the WHO dealt with Ebola in West Africa and the cholera outbreak in Haiti by the UN,of which the WHO is a subsidiary?

How long do you think Trump will tolerate antibiotics etc etc being manufactured in China and having America dependent?

That is going to change real fast and all that needs to be done is for the manufacturing technology that was transferred to China to be repatriated and its output preferred over the output from China!!

    Easy!!

The American economy is going to boom big time and China has provided the reason!!

Do some reading on the above and you will have some reflections on the topic .

  30. @ Robert

I know you are critical of the WHO and its support from China. But once Trump got stroppy and took away his $300m from WHO, all he did was to drive it in to the arms of the Chinese. It is all political, thus the over-the-top praise for our president.

    Nope.

    I int goin’ nowhere.

My dad, may he rest in peace, sometime in the early 21st century was invited by a pretty, young lady whose regular home was hour’s drive from the sea to attend the beach/sea with her.

His response, “No girl I haven’t gone to the sea since 1934, and I int going now.”

For most of his life he lived about 10 minutes walk from the sea, and worked even closer than that to the sea.

I haven’t gone to the sea in two or three years. It is unlikely that i will go this year.

    It int going to happen.

The thing is John, that most of that technology was transferred to China in the heads of Chinese people, millions and millions of whom have studied, often to the post doctoral level at some of the best universities in the United States.

How did you arrive at : “The thing is John, that most of that technology was transferred to China in the heads of Chinese people, millions and millions of whom have studied, often to the post doctoral level at some of the best universities in the United States.” ?

The Chinese invented paper, gunpowder, the fore-runner of of the drill use to drill for oil and some others like the fire works rocket. They haven’t invented much in the last five-hundred years. Ninety nine percent of all the inventions the run the modern world were done by white people. The Chinese, were it not for the greed of people like Peter Walker of the firm Mackenzie in the USA, would not be the manufacturing hub of the world, producing a lot of substandard goods ( check shoes, clothes pins and transistor radios just to name a few). They have or are about to launch a stealth bomber, which looks very much like the American one, Similarly they seemed to have stolen the American blue print for the F-35 fighter. The point that John was making is that the people who invented the technologies can readily re-create it. In the second world war car manufacturers in the US were employed in making guns, planes and so on. Even their space effort has been based on Russian rocket technology. The landing on the backside of the moon was done with the aid of NASA ( as I have said, scientists collaborate despite the political differences of their individual countries).

    “So they have published.

Patents have been taken out describing their work.

    All in black and white!!

No sweat to copy and also improve!!

Let me explain something about science for you. There are lots of scientific publications each year. The Science Citation Index is used to classify scientific publications on the terms of importance and on the number of researchers who cite the appropriate paper in their review of the literature in their own publications. The Chinese produce millions of science papers yearly most of which have been found to be sub-standard and the majority of which are not cited by foreign researchers. Similarly one can come up with a variation of an already published patent and get rights. The usefulness of a patent is dependent on what the market appraises its value at. A lot of patents sit in the patent office unused for the simple reason that, there are few financial incentives to use them. Finally, in science it is the quality not quantity of published papers that matter, unlike other disciplines. For example the paper by Watson and Crick that elucidated nature of DNA was only about a page and a half long. It resulted in the Nobel prize. Quality matters in science not quantity. The Chinese have not reached that level yet. Even with the Wuhan lab, they had to get foreign expertise to build it.
I would suggest that you stop gloating and being flippant in you quest for a Chinese dominated world. The pasture always look greener from outside.

  46. robert lucas Avatar

    @ Silly Woman May 4, 2020 11:51 PM

The American have realized that by training Chinese scientists, that they are under minding their own security. Plans are afoot to curtail the process. The biggest hurdle are the globalists .

  47. @ Quaker John

The US has 383 Nobel Laureates..??? Right, typical @John logic. How many of those have been US born? More important, what does a Nobel mean, apart from nearly $1m in cash?
That is why scientists and economists from other nations are protesting about how the awards are made. The US is picking a fight with China because of the increasing rise of Chinese technology. Look at Huawei.
Again, black people do not have a horse in this race. Chinese, American, Arabic or European it all means the same to us.
