Edmund Hinkson Picture
Minister Edmund Hinkson

In recent weeks Barbadians have been greeted with the good news our credit rating for local debt was upgraded by two credit rating agencies S&P and CariCRIS.

In recent weeks Barbadians have been greeted with the bad news that violent and gun crime appear to be on the increase.

The question we must answer is whether the solutions to our problems are to be found with our political masters only. The blogmaster shouts NO!

We have the political games being played depending on which side of the fence one sits that credit rating agencies are deemed to be important. There is sufficient evidence to show that not having an investment grade rating does more harm than good as it affects financial decision-making. The previous government was heavily criticized because of the unprecedented number of downgrades Barbados notched during its tenure.  The expectation is that when the foreign debt restructure is completed inyternational credit rating agencies will respond favourably as well. It is important to achieve an investment grade for the financial and intangible benefits it lends to any country.

However one spins it, an inching upwards of the credit rating is good news for a country  gripped in the throes of economic fatigue for more than a decade.

The good news about the northward movement of the credit rating has been tempered by the public perception that crime is on the increase. In recent weeks there has been a spate of gun crime linked to drug activity and a lawlessness element. Some will say to ignore the lawless while they shoot at each other. However commonsense supports the view that a country must maintain law and order to accrue obvious benefits.

dale_marshall
Attorney General Dale Marshall

The rising crime activity has seen minister Edmund Hinkson being demoted with responsibility for the Royal Barbados Police Force, Forensic Services Centre, Criminal Justice Research Unit and the Police Complaints Authority reassigned to Attorney General Dale Marshall. Hinkson’s diminished portfolio he has responsibilty for the Barbados Fire Service, Immigration, Post Office, Government Industrial School, National Council on Substance Abuse and the Prison Service – creates the opportunity to resign from the Cabinet in the coming weeks. It signals to others in the large Cabinet that the prime minister will jettison non performers soon once the ‘opportunity’ appears on the political radar.

The reassignment is an admission by government that it has to improve in the area of law enforcement and delivering justice. Our slothful court system has been a bane for both political parties in government. Coincidentally, the Attorney General has responsibility for Barbados Courts, he now has responsibility for the Police and support units. What should be obvious is that an incrementalist approach has been shown not to be effective over the years.

The blogmaster has been critical of the large Cabinet appointed by the Prime Minister. Her defence of the large Cabinet will not resonate in a climate where workers are being retrenched from the Public and Private sectors.  It does not matter how hard the prime minister and Cabinet are working, commanding the support of the public requires she adopts leadership positions which co-opt the support of the public.

The blogmaster was also critical of the prime minister when videos surfaced on social media during the last political campaign with her ‘styling’ with certain actors. It is important our leaders appreciate the importance of leading by public example.

A word to the wise should be enough!

“A pvssy is a pvssy, is a pvssy.
If “A” lady don’t want you, “B” lady will or perhaps “Z”
It is not worth killing over a piece of pvssy.
    Or over a prick.
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

At least, Sexless Sir Simon, you are being an equal opportunity ‘curse-bird”.

If a man (or woman) should not kill over “Pvssy” (or big bamboo) what then did foolish Cain kill Abel over?

An ‘untouched’ sheep or rod of yam to please the manipulatively and vacillatingly temperamental Yahweh?

Animals (including birds of similar feathers) kill over bloodline (aka ‘fooping’) rights, so why not man the primate.

What you should be imploring ‘man’ (and wo(e)man) to do is to live more in harmony like their closest relative the bonobo by letting ‘Fooping’ be the only currency of choice to ‘buy’ conflict resolution.

BTW, a black pussy(cat) is not the same as a white pussy cat. Neither is a Chinese Chihuahua the same as an Indian poodle. And certainly Not a black mamba mandingo!

But John, when I was paying my insurance premiums, and we are told that we should insure, especially against hurricanes I had no idea that the insurance company was paying bribes to anybody. I was as shocked as anybody else to hear that our erstwhile Cabinet Minister as well as the company and/or its senior officials have been charged.

    SHOCKED.

The Americans may have to come for me because I have no money to travel to America.

Do you think that AA would sell me a ticket if i paid them with a “fine bag” or yams or cassava instead of cash?

Because there seems to be a whole lot of cash floating ’bout this place.

But none floats in my direction.

    Two more suspected murders.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Take a look at the dynamite and you will see why things will only get worse!!

  13. Police are on the scene of another unnatural death. Initial reports indicate a woman was killed tonight at the Vauxhall Senior Citizens Village, Vauxhall, Christ Church.

Around 5:40 p.m this evening police responded to River Bay St Lucy, where they discovered the body of an adult female. Investigations are continuing.

Well, that makes all his offspring ‘idiots’ too, including you; not so!

So whose “Pvssy” did those two imbecile fight over? Their sister(s) or was it that of their mum Eve like the ‘foolish’ Adam and the ‘wise’ Serpent called ‘Rudeness’?

Maybe- as you have convincingly insinuated- it was what the French call “un cas de crime passionnel” (crime of passion) arising from a lovers’ spat over the ancient ritual of human sacrifice to the gods.

But that would be too blindingly blasphemous to even contemplate if the first murder was over currying special favours arising from the jealous love of Yahweh since the word “homo” is lovingly ‘Greek’(as in Latin for homo erectus) and not Bajan for erotic or Dr. GP’s version of bull(y)ing.

Murder rate by country, per 100,000 population:
    Barbados: 10.91
    Canada (where Hants lives): 1.68
    United States: 5.35

Our murder rate is therefor twice as high as that of the United States.

But our rate could be better like that of the Andorra, Channel Islands, Monaco, Nauru, Niue, San Marino, St. Helena, Liechenstein, Isle of Man, Vatican City, all 0.00 murders per 100,000 of population.

Or it could be much worse as in El Salvador 82.84, Honduras 56.52, Venezuela 56.33, or the U.S. Virgin Islands 49.26, all in the Americas. Life in the Americas has less value than in the rest of the world

  23. WARU,

We have always known that there are two Barbadoses. The RBPF is not allowed to police the minority population. They close ranks and cover up for each other. But we know they import and use drugs, perpetrate domestic violence, rape, theft, commit suicide and murder just like the majority population. Due to the small population of whites and their relative prosperity the incidents will be fewer than in the majority population.

But there ARE CRIMES COMMITTED BY THEM.

    WE KNOW.

  26. “They close ranks and cover up for each other. But we know they import and use drugs, perpetrate domestic violence, rape, theft, commit suicide and murder just like the majority population.”

    Donna

    You are correct.

A man shoots his son and is permitted not only to leave the crime scene, but to travel out of the jurisdiction to seek medical attention……and then return home afterwards to be questioned by the police.

One of the S.Y Adam clan was held a few years ago with over $2M worth of cocaine and granted bail. I have not heard anything about that case since.

Whereas a black man is held with an apparatus fit for the misuse of an illegal controlled substance (usually a “one shot” brandy bottle with a hole at the bottom) is sentenced to Dodds for 6 months………

………. the rich white, Indian or Arab importers of the drugs are granted bail, irrespective of the fact that they are responsible for these guys turning “parros.”

The Arab owner of “Bionic Man’s Shop” was held on two occasions I can remember, with counterfeit US$ and fake US passports. He travelled to Trinidad to attend a funeral and was held by the FBI (or DEA)……and detained in Trinidad to await an extradition order, which he subsequently won.

It is a known fact that many police officers used to frequent his Swan Street store, maybe not for any untoward reasons…..but to shop. One in particular used to “act” as cashier on some occasions……perhaps that was his part-time job.

A few years ago some members of the RBPF’s SSU harassed 3 youngsters on their way from cricket for no apparent reason. The guys were arrested and charged. Recently, two Indian boys cussed the police and pushed them off their premises. They were also arrested, charged and granted bail.

We have been talking about this scam against Barbados taxpayer’s for years…that both governments colluded with, enabled and condoned…for their cut..

“Just like the water Desal plant on Spring Garden which makes the owners a FORTUNE EACH YEAR at the cost of hard working Barbadians….you know who owns that, and how the lease was corruptly altered after it had been approved by the Civil Service / Parliament.”

    THIS WE KNOW….

“Substantial amounts of COCAINE were imported in every container imported by SPACE RESEARCH CORPORATION duty free without customs inspection…….this was confirmed to me only recently, but, for that person’s safety I cannot tell you who by. ”

    THIS WE ALSO KNOW…

………”told me that all polo ponies imported in to Barbados from Brazil / South America have a 20 / 30 lb bag of cocaine surgically implanted to the underside of their body which is then removed surgically by a vet in Barbados.

Edmond and Bruce Bailey may confirm this?…..their CGI office building is at WARRENS.
