Blue Horizon Hotel

The average Barbadian is blissfully unaware about what goes on in the Barbados business underworld. Deals are made in smoke-filled rooms and the ordinary Barbadian is left to emit sounds of fury on the talk shows and on social media. How was Vision Development incorporated in the nick of time to land a deal to develop the Hyatt hotel? How come government was 100% receptive to Mark Maloney when he decided to import cement to force prices down in Barbados and he was able to secure the contentious site on Port Authority lands? Is it a coincidence this matter has been mired in legal rigmarole? How much foreign exchange is being spent anyway to import Rock Hard cement? How come Mark Maloney was able to secure a sweet heart deal with the government to plant the houses at Coverley? If BU is correct there was a plan to develop an area in Bushy Park similar to Coverley.

The latest question BU is asking.
Has the Blue Horizon hotel, the GEMS property been sold to Bjorn Bjerkham and Mark Maloney for 5 million dollars?
By our calculations this computes to less than $5,000 per room. The last valuation bandied about in public was 17 million dollars. The enduring legacy of the Stuart government will be the shroud of secrecy and more than a hint of corruption attached to transactions.
Will somebody SHOUT GROTTO and the use of the Housing Industrial Fund to pay Maloney?

  1. Good, now go and investigate who are the others and bids offered that were more than Bjerkham. You say Tempro we say Maloney, same difference!

The Blue Horizon property at Rockley, Christ Church, is slated to become a Hard Rock Hotel, as part of a joint venture with a local company. (Picture by Reco Moore.)

AFTER HAVING HAD the Blue Horizon hotel on the market for more than a year, Government has finally found a buyer.

But the sale of the three-star Christ Church property as part of a joint venture project has left a sour taste in the mouths of some investors, who believe larger, more reasonable bids were ignored.

The property has been purchased by businessmen Philip Tempro and Bjorn Bjerkhamn, through their company Blue Development Inc.

A high-ranking Government official confirmed to the SUNDAY SUN that the hotel, located at Rockley and once part of the controversial GEMS project, had been sold for just over $5 million. (BA)

Black bajans need to find other lucrative ways to bring foreign exchange into the island outside of tourism…do not listen to idiots like Tempro….there are other ways available to earn foreign exchange, find them.

Stay away from clowns like Tempro, these types of beasts do not mean the majority population well and only see them as low paid wage earners, he has a particularly nasty reputation for mistreating black people and refusing to pay them decent wages since he was hired by Bjerkham.

I know personally of young bajans in new age categories of employment who contribute significantly to the bajan economy, foreign exchange earned from several jurisdictions through their jobs worldwide.

If the hard headed government, especially Jones had listened years ago and invested in the young bright people who studied abroad, they would not now be scrambling for foreign exchange and totally dependent on tourism.

Both Maloney and Tempro work for Bjerkham.

Maloney works for Bizzy and Cow, they are all one entity who uses government ministers to play tag team when accessing taxpayer’s contracts and money from the treasury and pension fund, money that rightfully belongs to the people.

It’s not that blacks on the island do not want to invest as Alvin is telling his usual lies, it’s that they are always marginalized and sidelined by their own black governments in favor of these same few parasites and crooks over and over, even if blacks are investing more.

And despite Bjerkham and Tempro both being involved in the Cahill scam with Fruendel and the useless government ministers which caused a scandal when the crazy, crooked Canadian woman Clare Cowen exposed them all, who am sure was being coached by both Bjerkham and Tempro…government in their usual stupidity, still practically gave away the hotel to those two, instead of putting out bids to everyone and accepting the best offer to add to the people’s treasury.

    Corruption.

“A BARBADOS-BASED company is at the centre of a fraud investigation in Caracas against a wealthy Venezuelan businessman who has been blacklisted by the United States for alleged money laundering in relation to drug trafficking activities.

Investigators for the opposition-controlled National Assembly claim that Samark Lopez, through the company, Postar Intertrade Limited, which is registered in Barbados, overcharged the Venezuelan government for food purchased in Mexico.
He was reportedly paid US$158 million for shipments that should have cost $36 million.”

If this amount is accurate, it would be interesting to find out if anyone or a company offered the government 11,000,000 dollars for Blue Horizon and they refused….and who made the offer.

“BLUE HORIZON HOTEL GIVEAWAY — The corrupt government of Barbados sold the Blue Horizon Hotel for $5,000,000.00, to Philip Tempro and Bjorn Bjerkhamn, when they could have gotten an easy $11,000,000 for it.”

It would only serve to confirm, how very steeped in corruption both black governments are with these minority parasites.

  8. After studying the Hard Rock Hotels website, it is difficult to understand how an enlarged Blue Horizon would fit in with existing product offerings. Wrong side of the road, All-inclusive and collecting revenue offshore with lowest room rates on direct bookings. I have asked the head of their public relations company to comment and will try and include response in next weeks Tourism MATTERS column.
Of course as Sapphire has been mentioned perhaps they will get planning ‘permission’ for 8 floors or even 15 like the proposed Hyatt.

The law says gov’t assets have to go to public tender. Statutory corporations are another issue.

They say they are selling assets to pay bills but if the monthly salary and wages bill is BDS$40 million and a hotel sells for 1/3 of it’s assessed value at BDS$5m, how far does that kick the can down the road? Hotel sale nets 4 DAYS of staving off disaster.

These boys are desperate and grabbing at straws.

There was never any chance of economic recovery under Fumble’s Fools. They can’t even count.

Sinckler is a conductor on a train running at maximum speed to nowhere without driver or engineer and a very big bend in the tracks is looming.

Is that a casino, that the hypocrite governments, both of them, think they are too christian and righteous to allow on the island….for the last 40 years, but they nevertheless got slot machines and lotto, for decades.

That looks just like a casino.

Is this indicative of a plan by the current DLP administration to introduce wholesale casino gambling in Barbados or are you going to see another blatant case of certain concessions granted to outfits like Sandals and Cost-U-More while other players in the same industry are denied similar treatment?

Your boss man is right on the money when he claims there are two justice systems in Bim.
One for the DLP financial backers and another for those who don’t tow the DLP line to grease outstretched corrupt upturn palms.

BTW, what is the latest position with the Hyatt project?
Is it still under the snail pace justice system your boss man holds dear to his heart or is it being turned into a gazebo to accommodate a flea market operation?
First it was Four Seasons now it is Hyatt down the economic recovery drain of promises from the Guv of the CB.

  14. @Miller

As Bushie always opine, it could just be a plan to move money with a general election on the horizon. The time frame is too short to introduce casino gambling to Barbados. Also it is too controversial a matter at this time.

It is saying this is a 3P project….so maybe the GoB only sold part of it. And “intent” doesn’t mean one shiite.

  19. Here is ANOTHER project ripe for a judicial review. Were government financial rules contravened or not! Which citizen advocate will champion this effort? Please, David C had done enough!

  20. Key lesson—-Govt should never own hotels or other businesses, Govt should not be picking winners and losers, they are not qualified and almost always make major mistakes.eg in USA ,Solyndra–$500 MN lost in months.

  21. The Nation mentions Blue Development Inc, but a company was registered with CAIPO on 29 September 2015 ‘Blue Developments Ltd’ – surely there cannot be two companies with this name?

  22. It would be interesting to know if Hard Rock Hotel will benefit from similar 40 year tax concessions given to Sandals.

“As Bushie always opine, it could just be a plan to move money with a general election on the horizon.”

It sounds like a move to finance the upcoming vote buying campaign similar to what took place prior to that 2013 façade in democracy when the Grotto housing project was promised to accommodate working class Bajans in dire need of ‘housing solutions’.

Guess that accounts for the difference between the $11 million offer from Gordon S and the other white shadows’ $5 million accepted as ‘fair value’ consideration.

Who pays the elections financing piper calls the tune and determines the bidding outcome.

    Votes ah selling!

Or should that be called a well-conceived marketing plan to facilitate the electoral success of the deceitful lying party to ensure that Barbados continues to be: “socially balanced, economically viable, environmentally sound and characterized by good governance”?

  32. Interesting comment by Maloney when ‘superimposed’ on current state.

    Maloney offers economic advice
Added by Barbados Today on March 21, 2017.

Local developer Mark Maloney is recommending greater collaboration between the public and private sectors to help correct the challenges facing the island’s economy, with tourism at the centre of the process.

It is for this reason, Maloney said, that the authorities must continuously create opportunities to attract a range of investments in the sector.

“We have to look at charting our own way and creating opportunities for the country centred around tourism,” the controversial businessman said.

Maloney said concessions were necessary to woo investors, while he called on the private sector to be creative in its offerings to help attract the investment needed here.

“Investors want to bring their capital to where they feel comfortable working, living and playing and feel safe. And in each of those categories are opportunities that exist for Barbadian companies to establish that they are capable of supplying the services that people that come to Barbados to do business require. I think it is important that the public and private sector play an integral part in working together on this and it is not we and them and it is not seen as political and one party against the other,” he said.

He called on Government to ensure that large international and local companies investing here were foreign exchange earners and were not “depleting the foreign exchange levels”, while he pressed for a review of the restrictions on exchange controls to help with “shoring up the levels of reserves”.

The developer said there was a need for improved governance, business facilitation, communication and trust to help raise the level of confidence in the country, and he called on the private sector to recognize that they too, were sometimes guilty of creating some of the challenges they faced.

“I don’t mean to be critical about the private sector but the private sector has problems as well. We all make mistakes in our businesses . . . we start businesses and spend too much money to create them, our cost is too high but we don’t beat up on ourselves for the mistakes we make . . . Government, just like the private sector, makes mistakes,” he said.

  33. Well Well @ Consequences Observing Blogger Avatar
Well Well @ Consequences Observing Blogger

Maloney is saying one thing, but mean the opposite, he is saying what his masters are telling him to say..

look at the state of foreign reserves because of them, how much have any of them added, we know they subtract hundreds of millions annually, never to be returned to the island, with the hopes of extracting hundreds of millions more..

and if corrupt governments continue to sell them multi million dollar properties belonging to the people at significantly marked down prices, in exchange for their cut, as has obviously happened with this hotel giveaway….the people and island will never benefit from any arrangement with the Bizzy, Bjerkham, etc gang.and either government.

  34. Are we not sick and tired of all the shiite that is going on in this country?

How much longer are we going to take this nonsense and say that we cannot do anything about it?

Now is the time for the unions to up the ting. The government taxing us to smithereens and at the same time giving away taxpayers properties.

Look how they in one fell scoop give away 6 million dollars and the Stinkliar told the unions on Friday, he is out of options.

Look unions, up the thing. I am so frustrated with this government.

  35. Is the plan for these vultures to get everything that the taxpayers own from these morons before the election is called?

The Fire Station in Weston was abruptly closed and residents said that they saw one of the vultures down there snopping around. Watch for another give away.

  36. The question the government must be made to answer is why were higher offers declined and Bjerkham’s et al accepted?

  37. Are we connecting the dots?

Why is it that all the projects these people are involved in are properties owned by the taxpayers?

So who is it that is sucking the nipples sore? Certainly not the poor black man because the poor cannot even get a proper stipend from Welfare.

We are doomed under these fools quoting FB.

yeah Prodigal..this is not the time to hold back information, find a way, remember you too are complaining how dire the situation is under this government….

they are not acting like they care for the people who elected them, they are acting like criminals who are only looking out for themselves and the few minorities who bribe them and dont care how much money you have to contribute to the development of the island and people, as long as you are not in that circle of bribers and are not willing to bribe government ministers….you are not welcome to contribute to the island`s development.

do you want to see that same destructive practice continued by both governments and any new governments for another 2 or 3 generations…75 years, destroying all hopes and dreams for the majority population.
