During the Presentation of the Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposals 2015 the intelligence of Barbadians was trivialized (or was it) by the debate whether Lowe has earned a Doctorate or leader of the Opposition possesses the requisite qualification to practice law in Barbados. Former Prime Minister Owen Arthur has routinely described contributions to debate in parliament as ‘poorakey’, now there is incontrovertible proof.
The fact the government and cohorts have been allowed to persist with such a serious accusation is a reflection on wider civil society, and importantly the Attorney General of Barbados. The clarification should not have to come from Sir Henry Forde who was one of two persons who recommended Mottley to the Bar of Barbados, what about the independent entities and individuals who could have deflated the political rhetoric the next day? We refer to entities/individuals like the Law Faculty of the University at Cave Hill, Barbados Bar Association, former Attorney General Maurice King et al. This is one of the major problems plaguing our little society; we allow political brinkmanship to override the intelligent arguments.
The majority of Barbadians would have preferred Lowe, Sinckler and the others respond to the scathing accusations levelled by the Opposition concerning a lack of transparency and accountability about the Cahill Energy Waste to Energy Plant matter and obvious conflict of interest issues arising from Lowe and Lashley leasing luxury vehicles from Trans Tech Inc.
BU reserves our biggest disappointment for Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite who promised to investigate the matter and advise Barbadians of his findings. Commonsense suggests the gravitas of two ministers who sit on the front bench questioning the bona fides of a leader of opposition to practice law should be considered a priority issue. Brathwaite has allowed his political affiliation to besmirch the office of the Attorney General. Then again this is an Attorney General who promised to act on sighting irregularities during the last general election. This is an Attorney General who promised new domestic abuse legislation about two years ago. This is the DLP who accused a BLP government of holding the findings of the St. Joseph Hospital Commission Report over the head of the late Branford Taitt and in the process taint his reputation and puncture his legacy. Interestingly, the DLP has not published the report since ascending office.
The refusal of the Prime Minister to touch the issues raised by the Opposition exposes a bug in our governance system. Who will debug it?
The debate which continues about the qualification of the leader of the opposition and minister Lowe is an indictment on the quality of governance we practice in Barbados. Anywhere in the world a Speaker of the House who has been found guilty of withholding thousands of dollars from a client, a deputy Speaker who has been named in a serious court matter, or a minister who brandished a gun in a threatening manner in the precinct of parliament would have been severely disciplined and asked to resign by any self respecting nation.
What is democracy? – “government of the People, by the People, for the People – has come to symbolize the definition of democracy”
The refusal of the Prime Minister to touch the issues raised by the Opposition exposes a bug in our governance system. Who will debug it?
We the people. That is if we really wanted to.
Politicians don’t mek demself. It is we who got dem suh.
Well not me, wunna is who gi dem de power to do as dem like.
Three years from now it will be same script different cast.
BTW, some might not get that Deminish is a play on the word diminish.
Well it clear..that Henry Forde’s response (coming near 2 weeks after the accusation was made on the floor of Parliament) has further clouded this issue
It is clear though that Mia Mottley gine mek a jail…..for this hienious act!
Let she BITE…
that one, too! !!
I have previously mentioned on BU that Lowe’s challenge to Mottley relative to her presenting a LEC in parliament was an immature political ploy that was done to achieve a specific objective, and it worked.
It was designed to shift the public’s focus away from the corruption and conflict of interest allegations leveled at Lowe and Lashley.
As usual, the resident DLP stooges on BU have attempted to keep this nonsense in the forefront as well, being part of the DLP’s “strategy of distraction.”
However, I will not relent in reminding the BU household of Mottley’s allegations and the refusal of those allegedly involved the scandal, to address this issue.
I also note, with interest, that the DLP’s “official spokesman on all issues,” Donville Inniss, has been keeping extra quiet or staying away as far as he possibly can from or commenting on the scandal.
Since Mottley has not displayed her LEC to the public so far, our attention should now be turned in the direction of AG Brathwaite. He promised to conduct an investigation into this matter and by now the results should have been made public, so Barbadians and the Barbados Bar Association could react accordingly.
@Fractured BLP June 28, 2015 at 10:59 AM #
Are you sure it is the issue which is clouded or is it your mind?
Attorney-General Brathwaite should have know better. Why did he lend tacit support to the rambling of minister Lowe?
I think the distraction went that far and no further. Lowe showed how low he will go by making a mockery out of a serious charge against him and the issue of the Cahill development. All he has done by trying to divert attention is to increase it more on himself and his very very questionable integrity. The lack of defense he showed in his response in parliament by trivializing the seriousness of this matter with an issue about qualifications is a clear sign of guilt that was evident when he said he had to spend a large portion of his debating time to attacks towards his character. I mean you got to be far more tactful and sensible than that by making everyone believe your character and reputation is far more important than a claim that places you high on the collusion of corruption. If that was not enough evidence than the way he started to talk in his opening remarks is also evident of the fear that was in his face exposing all the pretense and make believe. But what to expect, the man has an allegation against his name that he placed millions in his mother’s account, which he wants all the ”idiots” in Barbados to believe is what his mother saved for years.
David, Mia Mottley was asked and she is the one who should respond. Instead of using Henry Forde to hold her brief and preparing a statement.
I look forward to Mottley answering the scathing accusations about her role in the debacle at Crab Hill Police station which has fleeced taxpayers by a firm that she has an interest in and was instrumental in awarding the Carb Hill contract to when the said company had no prior history or track record in such dealings.
And you seriously want to tell the people of Barbados that this is the alternative leader?
Man, get real.
The Opposition leader brought up the question of Lowe’s qualification in the first place. She didnt merely mention it, she was almost teasing and tearing down his character saying he is pretending to be an Archbishop and other low blow comments like that. Shouldnt she be talking of the issues? Where is the criticism of her for doing that? If he didnt respond to her tearing down of his character some sections of the press and most likely this blog would of took up and ran with it. Unfortunately Lowe spent too much time addressing that issue instead of the ‘going-ons’ in his Ministry. I agree with the author on that.
Sinckler DID respond to the accusations of Cahill, Grotto, Preconco etc in his wrap-up speech. Don’t take my word for it. The Barbados Parliament has a new updated website and all the Minister’s contributions of the 2015 are stored there.
Of all the contributions the AG said in his budget and afterwards, this author chose to focus on him saying that he’ll investigate Mia’s qualifications, chupse.
When the DLP returned to power in 2008, soon after we all heard about the St. Joseph Hospital report and Branford Taitt was vindicated.
This author needs to go and come again.
We all know comprehension is a problem of yours. The point is that the AG has had enough time to address the issue of the LEC which falls under his responsibility and he has not. In fact he should have been competent enough to address it on his feet but he preferred the route of politics. He could have called Maurice King who was the AG at the time to confirm DURING the debate.
The point about the St. Joseph Hospital report is that the DEMS called for the report to be made public and they have been in office for 7 years and they have not done what they had called for. We do not include a ministerial statement as qualifying.
Here is the full text of Sir Henry’s statement:
Not that I like Mia Mottley because I think she is a nasty piece of work but let me tell you, I listen to the debate and the response from her was base on Lowe’s gestures and mouthings in the background. Lowe was obviously agitated because if there was not anything to worry about he should have remaind calm and let Mottley talk her talk until the appointing time for him to tear her up with facts. Did he present any facts besides talking shite about qualifications. You think rather Mottley has an LEC or not, and Lowe a doctor if it will change all the shite that these DLP rats are doing. This shitety government has turned back the clock for everyone all accept themselves. The whole lot are digging deep into the treasury to get all that they can now. Why you think the corruption is so bold and in the open. Shite wunna people really need to wake up..
I should inform you that the qualification at issue, the Certificate of Legal Education [CLE], is not issued by the Faculty of Law, UWI, but by the Law Schools of the Council of Legal Education. We could not offer therefore any authoritative statement on its possession or otherwise.
Thanks for the response but the substantive point is the legal space which allowed MAM to practice law in Barbados. Surely the academics at Cave Hill should be seized with this knowledge to have made an authoritative intervention.

“The Opposition leader brought up the question of Lowe’s qualification in the first place. She didnt merely mention it, she was almost teasing and tearing down his character saying he is pretending to be an Archbishop and other low blow comments like that.”
Come off it DLP yard-fowl.
Although I hold no brief for Mottley, when Lowe began his contribution to the Budget, he mentioned that Owen Arthur made comments about his qualifications on a previous occasion and NOT Mottley.

“I look forward to Mottley answering the scathing accusations about her role in the debacle at Crab Hill Police station which has fleeced taxpayers by a firm that she has an interest in and was instrumental in awarding the Carb Hill contract to when the said company had no prior history or track record in such dealings.”
What proof do you have that “the said company had no prior history or track record in such dealings”, or are you taking Sinckler’s word as gospel because it is in your interest to do so.
You DLP yard-fowls really amaze me. A bunch of imbeciles who like licking the asses of politicians and worshiping them as the gods they are not.
Mottley’s LEC according to our Resident Expert on these matters Mr. Caswell Franklyn were laid to rest with his statement that an accomodation was made for the said lady under a provision under the law that obtained some years ago.
Mr. Franklyn shared that MAM and two other persons were made exempt under that provision.
Speaking about exemptions, I wonder what was the exemption employed for Zarina Khan, Attorney at Law as such relates to her entry into Barbados as well as her employment as a lawyer at the then Chambers of MAM prior to her marriage to ***
De ole man ent say nuffin bout *** so dere is no libelous statements appended and all dat de ole man say can be verified if wunna want to.
I think that this submission should cause enquiring minds to pause to examine the nature of the “grit” that exists in our closets and which, with a little digging, can be found and exposed, some of which is more damaging than “imputed malfeasances”.
If you need to find real dirt, look for previous employees or former significant others…
Anyone can say anything about this ZK matter but one cannot falsify the records of the Immigration Department regarding her entry date, nor the labour department regarding waivers accorded her job application.
Even if one could get those records changed, a fact that Plantation Deeds will probably say is possible, you cant falsify the date of marriage (records) under which residency is subsequently claimed or pass out a mass hallucinogenic to all the people who attended the wedding.
The point here is quite simple and in case you discerning readers have not grasped it is “try not to suck no doggies , nor bite out the other thing” because there will come a day when your dirty linen will be exposed and you may have to explain, with verifications, if the brown marks in your sheets are “chocolate stains or shy*e”
We are playing around with the fabric of our nation while presenting posturers and thieves as men of integrity and female change agents
@Sunshine, As I said I did not like the fact that Lowe spent his budget time dealing with that qualification issue, but Mia should of never brought it up.
@Artaxerxes, I am no DLP yardfowl neither so dont go there. I voted for the BLP twice and the DLP twice and right now I’m leaning BLP. Dont know if that will hold time when next the bell ring. If one agrees with the DLP or the BLP they aren’t automatically a yardfowl. I dont know why people like to throw around that label. Should I assume all the people throwing licks mostly in the DLP, like you, are BLP yardfowls?
Is it not said, more often than a cock crows today, that we like it so?
How then could anyone have a problem with those washed in the blood and now whiter than snow former wrongdoers in high and low places?
David, do you really think that any statement coming from Cave Hill would be accepted as authoritative if it should conflict with the populist view? This issue is a matter of realpolitik not informed perception.
How do you think that Sir Henry’s definitive statement has been received by the average DLP supporter?
Yes it is a political matter, yes those with political agendas will disregard Sir Henry’s explanation and continue to excuse the Attorney General’s leadership. However, all actors in a society have a responsibility to play their part, it should not be influenced by the response.
‘What proof do you have that “the said company had no prior history or track record in such dealings”, or are you taking Sinckler’s word as gospel because it is in your interest to do so.”
There is proof but what proof is there of Ms Mottley influence in the award of the contract
It ain’t matter to me one bit if you were not happy with Lowes response. We need to see Lowe for what he is. Low life crook masquarading like a saint. So Mia did her dirt, she is not the government at the moment. Point fingers at her will not make this shitety wicked government stop their whole lot of nonsense. We have some nasty pricks who want to sell Barbados to a Englsh woman who is already bragging and dirty Lowe praising and waiting, while a silent circus sweet speaking clown for Prime Minister continue think that he has the right to remain silent. I can’t stand for that shite from a DLP I once love to the DLP I no longer give to two shites about. Though this nasty vile bitch in the form of Mottley is no pleasantry and is no less dirty, she would get my vote any time over these dispicable Low life vagabonds.
The PM is grieving please!
@ Kevin June 28, 2015 at 12:23 PM
“@Artaxerxes, I am no DLP yardfowl neither so dont go there. ”
So if you are “no DLP yardfowl” what are you? DLP backwater-fish like ‘Fractured BLP’ aka ‘Waiting et al’?
When are you and you lot going to come to the realization the present administration is just not fit for purpose? Just a Mickey mouse government not knowing its elbow from its arse.
Just a bunch of demonic lying pimps who have taken control of a country that was once the ‘envy of the developing world’.
When a MoF, a GoCBB and a PM can say the numerous of credit rating downgrades over the last 7 years should be dismissed as stupidity on the part of the agencies and should be punished with laughter don’t you think it’s time to take stock to see the shit hounds pretending to manage Barbados Inc.?
Managers sometimes select the ‘wrong’ employees to work for them. Same thing happens when shareholder representatives select the ‘wrong’ managers.
How can Mia Mottley’s qualifications to practise law be the kernel of the discussion when we have an AG- along with a PM both Constitutionally, recognized first servants of the Crown- who personally witnessed voter fraud and refuses to carry out further investigation up to this day?
Which is more important? A illegally elected political party and selected PM and his bribe-influenced Cabinet or a LOTO who attended a prestigious university in a leading city of the ‘developed’ world with the right to practice Law ratified by Statutory Instrument instead of attending a third rate law finishing school in some backwater institution in some lowly-rated country in the world?
Isn’t it “diminish” or is it an intended pun as in DEMinish that is to make like the DLP that is “of low standard”?
Correct Ping Pong, taking a little license.
The whole island is grieving. What is your point?
Have a heart, he is the Prime Minister, primus inter pares for heavensakes!
@ David June 28, 2015 at 1:19 PM #
“The point is that the AG has has enough time to address the issue of the LEC which falls under his responsibility and he has not. In fact he should have been competent enough to address it on his feet but he preferred to politics. He could have called Maurice King who was the AG at the time to confirm DURING the debate”.
It was not in his or the DLP’s interest to do that, David. This was purely raw DLP gutter politics at its worst.
By now all and sundry must see the AG for what he is…………an incompetent useless “piece of” a lawyer whom David Thompson rake up from some where up the island chain and brought home to foist on the people of St Philip South.
I know someone who knew him where he was before and they think nothing of his lawyer skills. I was at a function where he was in attendance and someone in the legal field remarked that he does know “any law”.
So do not be surprised, this stunt they pulled was to take the attention off of the serious accusations of naked greed and corruption taking place.
Are you smoking weed? What that got to do with me? Where is his heart in all the pain he has caused and the insults he add to the injuries inflicted by his callous comments. Where was his heart when he said a crook his friends so to hell with the policy holders. Respect is a two way street. He lost mine a long time ago.
David Thompson must have realised the AG’s worth as he had no place for him in his cabinet at first…………………..now we know why!
I saw this AG for what he is worth when he sat at the top of the house and shouted down to Donville Inniss………….wait Donville you aint tell me that he (referring to MP Duguid) wife got children that aint his. This from a man who had a child who was not from his wife as we later learnt when the child tragically died. What a hypocrite.
William Duguid in anger responded as any man would do to defend his wife and he got all the blame.
This tape was then uploaded unto the internet like Lisa Marshall’s personal file from the Transport Board……………….you think the dems sweet?
LOwe was not the instigator of all that is happening in reference to Mottley legal standing in this country, Mottley opened her big mouth and accuse Lowe of not having proper documentation to be called a DR. so what was lowe supposed to do , just sit still and leave the matter unattended for trhe Blp yard fowls and gad flies to have a party at his expense. Well HELL NO he did respond correctly and now the rest is history leaving Mia looking like she jumped over the political and legal fence to become a practicing attorney, HAIL to the DR lowe, u have opened a big can of worms that even might implicate the power brokers and the/ mighty / all coming to mia defense for knowingly engaging in illicit practice,
Was it not Lowe who continually claimed he had a doctorate from a bible college who does not have a PHD programme? He has now switched to another university. Who is the one changing their tune?
Truth is too hard for dlpites like the ac’s and her kind………………………..we want to hear of the shady dealings with Preconco, Jada, Innotech, Cahill, Cost you less, Leroy Parris………….all white companies. I wonder which party is now in bed with the white man?
Mia is just head and shoulders ahead of you demwits! You cannot touch her!
The ACs of the DLP heads is too far up their asses for then to see, hear or understand
One would think that with the level of violence going on in Barbados and the influx of guns that this moron for an AG would be spending his time better working with their hand picked COP to come up with strategies to combat this crime wave.
But no, he has time to dig up in MAM’s qualifications like he could ever walk in MAM’s shoes.
He is so tactless……. if he was told that guns were intercepted before being shipped on Fedex, you think he had any right calling an international company’s name like that?
When is he going to have the time to look into the election fraud he witnessed on election day? Is it that he cannot because of whom may be implicates? Hmm!
Dont throw rocks at others……….dems! You all are not clean…….ask SSS!
Henry Forde’s defence of Mia Mottley’s LEC qualification……explains why Henry Forde’ law firm was given all the legal work on the Edutech programme.
I hope Mia Mottley remind her audience of this at Tyrol Cot tonight?
can any one tell me about de late ballot box that did tun up with votes in it for this bald head AG ?
@Fractured what that got to do with the state Barbados in and the worst govt in the history of Barbados , go and finish suck the bones of the calf, clown
You can’t make this stuff, both sides throwing the brown stuff across the divide.
@ Equal Rights & Justice, there was no late ballot box you fool. CBC prematurely called the results for St. Philip South before the returning officer made the official statement. Adriel Brathwaithe won just like how George Payne won against Irene Sandiford-Garner in 2008 & 2013. Anthony Wood”s huge lead was wiped away when the votes from the ‘large’ areas of Union, Long Bay and Ruby were tallied. In many respects the votes from districts in St. Philip South that bordered St. Philip North is what caused Adriel to be re-elected; and its popular opinion that he rode on the coattails of Michael Lashley in bringing home SPS for the DLP.
Speckled fowl David is that all you have to say, when the smoke and dust is clear i hope u have the integrity to put Mia face on the wall of the lawyers Hall of Shame and Fame in the News along with her accomplices,
I posted that part of the law since last week and I am no Attorney General. Stupse,
If you have the evidence on Mia then why don’t you have a public meeting a al Tyrol Cot tonight? Seems to me deflection won’t work on this Cahill issue.
Mitch What public meeting ,this forum is enough of a public meeting for me.. people like u yard ducks show up looking for scratch grain,
i dare Mia and the operatives to stream the meeting so everyone can get the full text of what was said instead of the nations interpretation and out of context and mindless content that would be flashed across the newspaper tommorow
That’s what I thought. The legal qualification issue is just a distraction from the Cahill issue.
The problem here is that we dignify the stupid, red herring remarks coming from the Government side by continuing to refer to them. We do not want to hear about any LEC, we want to hear sound policies and initiatives that will put the people back to work.
You are well advised to stay focused on the message so that the intelligent who visit BU may glean something from the contributions.

Brathwaite was somewhere in the Virgin Islands and came back to Barbados as an untried and inexperienced attorney before the court of Barbados.Prodigal is correct to draw attention to the foolishness of this AG.If he had any class or decency about him he would not have gone into the gutter.Let the other 2 go and crawl among the vermin but the moment you as an AG of Barbados deign to state that you would be looking into a claim made by a nincompoop that cannot decline the verb BURST,and another JA that uses the am am am incessantly because he has no speaking skills, the moment the AG join those 2 hapless guys who were caught with their hands in the cookie jar,I determined this man has no worth as an AG.
I recall in January this year the Adriel Brathwaite telling Barbados Today that “when a police tell you…” I say this fellow is joking bad.His standards are low.
We have a situation in Barbados where an AG returned from the cold and became a failure by our standards. We have a CJ in similar circumstances.Over it all presides a PM who seems out to sea.Poor fellows all. When it comes to law, none of them can touch the brilliance of Dame Mia.An exceptionally gifted gladiator. Not one in the House can match this woman’s oratory or legal skills.I was a juror in the 90’s and saw her first hand dealing some fine blows ‘on her feet’ to the bench when the bencher sought to involve her in a developing matter outside her remit. She was very young,25, and the bencher was a seasoned fellow who thought he could scare her.The woman roasted that bencher.
Please , bloggers we know the ACs of the DLP will never see the wrong the DLP has done and is doing to Barbadians , we also know that it takes very Sick minded persons to write what we see the ACs write on BU, it will always got under the skin of us that know right from wrong and can feel the pain and suffering of Barbadians who are not the DLP chosen yard stock , so please if you must take on the ACs, do as the older people used to say, I will tell you two words, ACs , YOU SICK .
@Caswell , yes you are correct we need to move on to the substantive issues and not be distracted as others like Artax have also said.
But the sheer and utter simple-minded stupidity of these remarks should shine a spotlight on the authors and show them as unfit to be in the House of Assembly.
It was said in earlier post and reiterated by Sir Henry’s remarks that these supposedly astute MPs called into question the competence and integrity of all the persons who would have been in official positions (registrar, AG, etc) when Mottley was called to the Bar and then to the Inner Bar.
They in effect by their blundering remarks called our entire legal system going back 25+ years as fraudulent and inept because according to them that system and people therein allowed a non-qualified lawyer to practice and then to sit as AG of the country.
No review, no careful analysis just inane stupid remarks.
That is the behavior of dullards, not sensible people charged with discussing and dissecting ideas for our legislation and development.
The substantive issue is that they clearly show that they have no right representing their constituents.
How can we accept that anything they do is done with even a modicum of commonsense and careful analysis.
This episode did not prove that they are not fit to be in the House. We had that proof long before now. This is just icing on the cake.

Tonight as Mia mottley twist and spins her way out of the political mud which she brought on herself . tomorrow it would be interesting to hear if the word Practice takes on a new interpretation/meaning in reference to having a legal certificate in barbados to practice law, maybe just maybe a lot of overseas lawyers in the Diaspora can make there way back to the shores and avoid this ” inconvenience” which Mottley was privileged to have remove from her
De INgrunt Word;
Glad to see you are beginning to understand the enormity of our situation in Barbados.
Our Government is hopeless, its Leader is the epitomy of mindless hopelessness and our people are predominantly brass bowls (as defined by Bushtea)
The ac’s are so ignorant that they do not even understand that the chairmanship of Caricom is a revolving thing……..each country’s PM gets to be chairman for six months. It just so happen that it is now the turn of the moron we have for a PM.
You are really sick!
As for Caswell Franklin, poor fella , he did not have time to prepare an article this week so he rehashed his usual “Resign now” tirade and polluted the Sunday newspaper with his partisan foolishness.
Caswell, I always knew you were a BLP yardfowl at heart , now the whole of Barbados has no doubt where you stand and which party you support.
I am not a yard fowl of any type but I have voted DLP all my life. Are you DLP yard fowls really trying to spin what has happened over the last several years in a good light? SERIOUSLY?!!!!! And the issue at hand was obviously a distraction as practised quite often in the “House of Laughs” but even distractions should have some merit in order to be effective. This was just stupid!
I would think that with the availability of the internet “everybody” would be able to access ALL the information on Cahill quite easily, and thus would be able to get the facts. Cahill Energy is a company formed in 1953. Ms. Collymore is not CEO of Cahill Energy. She is a person who formed a company to seek out Venture capitalists to invest in worthwhile projects (Like the Waste to Energy Plants). There are a number of similar Waste to energy Plants already in existence in Canada (Vancouver) and other places. This project could and would place Barbados far ahead of many other countries in solving the garbage problem of the country.
I would encourage all the anti government “followers” to spend some time reading and researching instead of following and then making inane and malicious assertions, and trying to find dirt where none exists. I would even suggest that they; including many who formed paRT OF THE BLP GOVERNMENTS TO TRY AND UNDERSTAND how government works, instead of confusing those of their followers who don’t have a clue about it.
Caswell is in a class by himself. He worked in the Civil Service, but he is blinded by his animosity to the present government that he can no longer (if he actually did) figure out where he stands.
Do you have evidence that “Cahill Energy” is in anyway connected to “The Cahill Group” that was formed in 1953?
@Alvin, if you are going to suggest that remarks on this subject be raised to a higher level of discourse by spending “…some time reading and researching instead of following and then making inane and malicious assertions”, then let’s do that.
How can the government of a an island this small that relies on its tourism product of beaches and the environment as a major income generator undertake such a project without comprehensive environmental impact studies before any contractual obligations were signed?
How does our government work so that an economy with a GDP of US$4.3B could undertake a project almost 20% of that and the PM and the entire cabinet had not ventilated and discussed in detail before any contractual obligations were signed?
Just a few basic questions in keeping with your aim for reason.
Incidentally, several bloggers here have done a comprehensive and reasonable analysis of this project on the facts and many questions remain.
The attacks on the CEO and Caswell are irrelevant and should not be a focus. Let’s deal with the facts as you request.
Why should taxpayers have to go on the Internet to seek info? A government committed to transparency should be willing to share information. Then again we don’t have FOI in place yet.
We are hearing from Tyrol Cot last night Cahill Energy BARBADOS is connected to JADA et al.

What nonsense!!!!! Alvin Cummins, you must be some kind of a nut………. we don’t have to research anything.
Perhaps you forgot this DLP administration promised Barbadians “Good Governnace.” Let me refresh your memory.
The below excerpt was taken from page 47 of the DLP’s 2008 election manifesto:
“Under a DLP government, the people will be kept informed of what the government is doing on their behalf through:
• Regular press briefings following meetings of the Cabinet of Barbados
• Press briefings by Ministries/Departments to inform Barbadians of major developments and changes
• The publication of details of agreements and contracts involving the government and its agencies
• Formal Ministerial statements at regular intervals on the progress of ongoing programmes and projects”
Surely you MUST AGREE if the DEMS had kept their promises, as stated above, people would not have any reason to make “inane and malicious assertions, and trying to find dirt where none exists.”

“I would think that with the availability of the internet “everybody” would be able to access ALL the information on Cahill quite easily, and thus would be able to get the facts. Cahill Energy is a company formed in 1953.”
I believe the company to which you refer as being formed in 1953 is GJ Cahill & Co. Ltd, of St.Johns, Newfoundland, lead company of The Cahill Group.
In his “internetting” DD has seen nothing to indicate there is any connection between The Cahill Group, an established group of companies, and Cahill Energy Ltd, a Guernsey based shell company.
I am guessing the “Ms. Collymore” to whom you refer is actually Ms Cowan, CEO of Cahill Energy.
She is indeed a person who formed a company to seek out Venture capitalists to invest in worthwhile projects (Like the Waste to Energy Plants), after first seeking out a small island government gullible enough to believe that her Guernsey based Cahill Energy or its Barbados based shell company subsidiary , has the capital and expertise to deliver a WTE plant. And she found one – in Barbados.
Now that she has got a contract to sell, she is flogging it around the globe in search of gullible investors ,who believe that Barbados will be able to meet its obligations under the contact with Cahill Energy Barbados for 30 years
I would encourage YOU to spend some time reading and researching like BU “follower” RastaR, who clearly has done his research.
Frankly, I have tried my darnedest, without success, to UNDERSTAND how this DLP Government works

“Now that she has got a contract to sell, she is flogging it around the globe in search of gullible investors ,who believe that Barbados will be able to meet its obligations under the contact with Cahill Energy Barbados for 30 years”
Can you hazzard a guess what could happen to this project if Ms Cowan cannot get it sold? Would it then die a natural death?
Would be interesting to know, not so? Comedy of errors!

Well it clear..that Henry Forde’s response (coming near 2 weeks after the accusation was made on the floor of Parliament) has further clouded this issue
It is clear though that Mia Mottley gine mek a jail…..for this hienious act!
Let she BITE…
that one, too! !!
Forde himself is not so clean either, does the privilege still apply today re Mia although it’s plain to see that she would have had to be 15-16 years old to be eligible for the privilege, it is indeed a privilege only and nothing written in stone. Did anyone check with England, Wales or where ever the hell Mia is claiming to be a part of some Inn to see if it even exists anymore.
What would even make anyone take the easy way out by not having a certificate. Unless my reading skills are deteriorating, Mia does not qualify, her entrance to this and that Inn and this and that inner bar took place well after 1984….prior to 1984 means well before 1984, not 1987….unless like the confusion they call civil rules and procedures in Barbados, all the lawyers are now taking it upon themselves to interpret 1984 to be 1987.
This just makes all the idiots in the inner bar and outer bar and the Inns look a whole lot more stupid than the people who are less arrogant than these lawyers.
ARE WE THERE YET ?

“P.M. Stuart soon new CARICOM chair
Eat wunna heart out misfits and the PM is fully qualified as well, to boot.extending to a basket of creditability and integrity towards the PM suffice to say that the 15 members of caricom believe Stuart to be accredited and a person most worthy to be placed in that position.”
Dési Bouterse President of Suriname was also thought “fully qualified” and “a person most worthy to be placed in that position.” in 2012 by the 15 members of Caricom. Bouterse’s qualifications included:
1) Being found guilty in 2000 and sentenced in the Netherlands to 11 years imprisonment for trafficking 474 kilos of cocaine.
2) According to Wikileaks cables released in 2011, Bouterse was active in the drug trade until 2006.
3) On 25 February 1980, Bouterse, Horb and fourteen other sergeants overthrew the Henck Arron government with a violent coup d’état
4) On 7 and 8 December 1982, 15 young prominent Surinamese men who criticized Bouterse’s military dictatorship were snatched from their beds and brought to Fort Zeelandia (then headquarters of Bouterse), where they were tortured and shot dead. These killings are known as the December murders.
5) Bouterse’s son Dino Bouterse was sentenced in 2005 to eight years imprisonment for international drug and arms trafficking.

A natural death would be the best outcome
@Nostradamus, remind me not to advance any stupid argument while you are around. Wicked response. I bow in respect.
Is Mia Mottley qualified to practice law in Barbados?
the mia issue goes further to show even more the level of hypocrisy that bajans would tolerate and this is no joke ! .when the leader of the blp is accused of bypassing laws for gain sake that others citizens must follow…The blp yardfowls have been told many times in the past that they have no moral authority to sit in judgement of other people indiscretions yet they take their seat more often than not at the table of moral judgement to sit and falsely accused and render verdict///////Now it is their turn to be openly accused and judge the leadership mia mottley along with the foot soldier run in fear and hiding heading in another direction not bothering to look back at the stench of deception that have floated to the top of their barrel that is following them and that is most likely to expose the corruption that had given way for their leader to fly high above the radar of morals and integrity which they have been preaching and subjected all to be accounted /////now on the exposure of their leaders lack of integrity and so far her refusing to give accountability for what seems to be point blank unsavory dealings they hid in fear of retribution
The uncovering of Mia.,s inability to posses a legal document of requirement to be certified for the bar reveals more than a form of corruption that has helped the powerful and influential in our society which is a well known fact but cannot and should not be left covered up without seeking the proper remedy for correctness especially when the accused Mia Mottley is seeking the highest office in the land, Yes there are givens in such matter to be exercised or excused .however it would be very insensitive and presumptuous and inexcusable and also unforgivable if those in authority do not answer the public call for proper investigation and resolution be done to clear the foul air of deception which now hangs like a dark cloud over what is right ! proper and acceptable in our democracy to be a leader for change in our society,
the legal qualification issue is a manufactured non-issue and the people of Barbados are not even interested. we are interested in the scam that is Cahill Energy, who is behind it and the flow of money.

“Is Mia Mottley qualified to practice law in Barbados?”
Perhaps you should ask Maurice King. You should have access to him since he resides in camp DLP.

“the legal qualification issue is a manufactured non-issue and the people of Barbados are not even interested. we are interested in the scam that is Cahill Energy, who is behind it and the flow of money.”
That’s true OP, Lowe and Sinckler have been “dilly dallying” around this entire CAHILL issue, with both individuals making conflicting statements pertaining to the matter.
The people are also concerned about the fact that Trans Tech Inc. is given 90% of the Transport Board bus repairs, as well as the trucks from the Sanitation Service Authority and the ministers of under whose portfolios the TB and SSA fall, are driving vehicles owned Trans Tech.
Since this was revealed during the Budget debate, neither Michael Lashley or Denis Lowe has seen it as their duty, as individuals elected to parliament by their constituents, to address this issue and put to rest the debate relative to conflict of interest.
“It is very insensitive and presumptuous and inexcusable and also unforgivable if (Lashley and Lowe) do not answer the public call for proper investigation and resolution be done to clear the foul air of deception, (corruption and conflict of interest), which now hangs like a dark cloud over what is right.”
It is inexcusable the media has not cornered the two ministers to seek answers to the conflict of issue questions.
David, that is correct. Inexcusable. But it has been such for the year or however long it has been that I first read about this conflict here on BU.
It is a simple question and legitimate story for any of our media houses to interrogate a gov’t minister on such allegations.
It’s even simpler for the minister (particularly one who went to Theology school) to recognize the moral failings of this TransTech scenario.
As some one alluded to on BU any right thinking person would immediately terminate their lease with TransTech to avoid any inkling of a conflict and get the car from Simpsons or wherever.
Clearly these fellas don’t give a damn…. the politicians have no reputation to protect and the journalists who are paid to bring us the facts and news about them are indifferent because they know how crooked they are.
So BU is the behind-the-scenes news source of record these days. Rock on!
Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians and Canadian-Bajans.
Good to see that Canadian companies appear to be “involved” in the WTE plant.
Canada has a freedom of information act and pitbull investigative reporters. just saying.
Reporters are employees of the Media houses and said reporters must do the bidding of their bosses or get fired. This is Barbados not Canada.
Let MAM an Co continue the attack in Parliament and at political brass meetings. Let them continue until them call for the Government to resign.
Here is the real test for MAM.
Persuade one or more DLP members to cross the floor and OSA to rejoin the BLP.
That is all you need to bring down the government and pave the way to glory.
The advocacy cannot be left to only the political actors. A democracy requires all civil actors to participate.
@David the most import thing to Bajans right now is cropover.
After cropover over and they are well rested then they may be persuaded to worry about the “problems”.
And may I remind you that it is MAM who wants to be Prime Minister of Barbados. I just showed the path of least resistance….maybe.
We shall see when sufficient evedience is provide to prove or disapprove the underground shannigans that approved Mottley special privelege while denying average citizens such a right. Please! the cat is already out of the bag and the legal and political ramifications would hurt but for the better
What we are failing to realise is that these wild boys do not care about a fellow.
For all of the faults of the dead crook, David Thompson, at least he held them in check for a while. Remember he moved the same Dennis Lowe in a cabinet reshuffle soon after it was rumoured that he Lowe text a contractor and asked……….so where is my cut. I do believe that they too knew how crooked the daed king was.
So there you have it, one could not tell the other come back as the old people would say.
However, with this moron we have for a PM who touts himself as not being in anyone’s pocket, why does he not rein in these rouge ministers? Nah…….he defends them, case in point the crooked speaker.
Can we therefore believe the talk that was making the rounds for a while that the ministers told Fumble that if he wants to keep being PM, he better see and dont see? We could only believe this because of the blatant disrespect they show to the House, their constituents and the people of Barbados. I have to believe what a friend of mine has always been saying………….these people never came to serve the people of Barbados, they came to get rich.
Why are we such docile people? Has anyone noticed that the even the calysonians are afraid to write any biting commentaries about this wicked government? Does anyone remember the biting calypsoes especially from Colin Spencer during the BLP years?
…………and at that time the dems fooled the people that there was fear in Barbados……I wonder what we can say now. People are afraid of these morons and their yardfowls, so they are keeping quiet!
Prodigal Son July 1, 2015 at 9:42 AM #
“What we are failing to realise is that these wild boys do not care about a fellow.”
Prodigal, recall when those former workers who were retrenched from the NCC, the NUPW reminded the ministry of environment that they did not follow the “last in, first out” protocol, since many of those persons from Denis Lowe’s constituency who were hired at the NCC prior to the 2013 general elections remained employed.
PM Stuart acknowledged there were “missteps in the retrenchment process” and referred the matter to an Employment Rights Tribunal that was nonfunctional at the time.
And we all know that, despite the “missteps in the process”, Lowe remains a minister, while those former NCC employees had to wait over a year before they received their severance payment.
These are the types of issues (NOT an LEC) that will be forever etched in the memories of Barbadians, and they will not forgive the DEMS for the unmerciful acts they unleashed upon poor people.
What “red herring” to take focus off of what? ,The problem that would continue to haunt and follow Mia to the voting booth would be one of credibilty if not this LEC issue there are others that Mia has not as much answered going as far back as fourteen years.so for the BLP to flag this LEC issue as a red herring is almost as laughable in their desperation to taint and smear minister as selling out barbados when all of barbados knows that in the last election all the talk coming from the BLP was to sell out entites that control the safety and protectiom of our citizenship to private investors by way of paying off the debt. So this attempt to hid and cover for Mia. flaws is also another attempt to give her a passing grade on her failures and to encourage corruption and deception in bajan society
The Blp really got “raw” nerve to be always pointing accusing fingers. Now this new unfounded showdown to discredit govt. under the banner “sell out”makes for great comedy coming from the the blp leader who not only made and was associated with questionable land deals which “up the realestate prices for valuable land on the west coast but all but shut out poor bajans from owning a piece of the rock. This nonsense about the Cahill investors not tendered is ludicrious when her administration not only encouraged such transactions but circumvent rules and guidlines to avert attention which gave them control and adequate legal room to wheel aroumn what ever changes necessary as an afront .It is amazing that the BLP leadership can be so bold face in the face of all her and the Blp handling of country affairs in the past to satisfy a few now drumup unfounded allegations against govt .what hypocricy.
Is it true that Mia Mottley does not have LLB on her official correspondence letterhead?
Mental midgets should not play with intellectuals…… those who are stomping and grinding about Mia, are unfortunately not at the level that they should be….
You really think some of them could have negotiated the Trinidad issue a few years ago?
This pretence that some of them are of any caliber intellectually, yet alone high caliber, is really what has Barbados where it is today.
@ Fractured ….
I fully agree that qualifications.. are important….. now you know what is called continuing professional education that many professions have?
Law has that too and it is incumbent that legal advisors including Government, do such.
Many programmes occur in such as USA. So, folks like the lawyers in Government need to attend such to ensure that are up to date and can do their work with current updates.
Why don’t we hear when last, say, Michael Lashley went to USA for one of these conferences to ensure he is up to date with legal trends??
How about it?
everytime the blp say the word corruption i want to puke as it flashes my mind back to the days of veco and harwood and the many many underground illegal activities done up front in the faces of barbadains, including the now infamous 75thousand check, really are Barbadians now to forget those days of real Corruption. and believe that the ole guard has now have a damascus moment after fourteen years of putting Barbados out to dry.
Mia showed today that she has the intellectual, intestinal and social capabilities to make a difference….but then she always had these strengths and ‘other’ weaknesses…
Shiite man, if Bushie could change …why not Mia? Perhaps she has seen the light….
Perhaps she has had her Damascus moment….
in ANY event, compared to the bunch of thieving shiite hounds now in the DLP (and the rest of the BLP) her performance on Brass tacks today was a breath of fresh air…..
Legal certificate Bushie’s ass…. That is only needed by second rate brass bowls in order to appear competent…
How the hell does someone who is actually intelligent …AND have only a VERY narrow two seat minority, allow these brass bowls to get away with such shiite for so long…..
Two more public presentations like her Budget reply and the Brass Tacks contribution today ..and those DLP shiites will flush themselves in shame….
Well Bushie MAM does not need the money a al Richie but he was rejected.
“..everytime the blp say the word corruption i want to puke as it flashes my mind back to the days of veco…”
Bushie knows what you mean.
It happens to the Bushman on hearing the word “DAVID THOMPSON” …as Bushie’s mind flashes back to CLICO, and all those Bajans who lost their life savings…..
Shiite man, his mother must be shame as $%#@&….
speaking of Davd Thompson watch how he exposes the corruption in the BLP who wants to claim the title of Integrity say whatever you like about the rigt Honurable DT he exposed not one but many scam artist in the BLP listen and weep
…it is not always only money….
Knighthoods, relationships, Lodge ties, family ties….sex
the only real difference between former white shadows and current ones is that the current ones are REALLY low class curds who don’t even have the decency to cheat, lie, bribe and steal quietly. (on the darker side, Jack Warner and ‘Greenverbs’ typify the kind of uncouthness….)
Look at the list of old crooks who are now ‘SIR’ this and SIR that….
Wuh you feel that if Money B or Lawson had stayed in Brassbados and been set up in construction of precast structures or some such novelty, that they would be up and down the place getting on like a black hat…?
Those folks would have quietly and gracefully explained themselves (while laughing uncontrollably at us brass bowls down Cattlewash)…and gone on to become SIR Money Brain and Sir BU Lawson…..
The Cahill, Transtech, Maloney, Central Bank and other issues are beginning to prod Bajans. It is disappointing how we have allowed the political class to drag us into the mud. Then greed will do it every time.
It will shock the AC’s and the Fractureds’ that Edwy Talma and Norman Niles had no formal legal education,no LLB,no LEC,yet they were permitted by law to be be referred to and to practice as Attorneys at Law in Barbados. And I know of a close relative who was educated in London UK and practiced in the UK and Wales and who was admitted to the local bar in 1995.This is still the practice here in Barbados. The LEC is not a requirement if you are called to the bar in the UK
One more thing. There was a time when a QC had to be at a minimum holding an LLB.Nowadays in Barbados we have QC’s who only had bar qualification and some with an LLB who can’t write a decent brief and whose English language skills are zilch. This is one of the reasons why we are witness to a bunch ‘o wild boys in a poor rakey parliament in Barbados since 2008.They are nothing but dog puke.

Driven straight down the pitch, lovely shot… Dickie Bird signals four runs and the Kensington stand cheers heartily…
your son dry up and dead, tell the people what really cause he to die and took your mind with him to hell
calling people low life and thieves does not make it so go bring the emperical evidence then talk. like the evidence in the video where david Thompson catspraddle all the shady dealings of the BLP, Now fast forward to present time and those members who were part and parcel of the grand organization of schemers and con artist wants to pull a fast one on the barbadian society talking about a change when the ole guard are still in place,,Really don;t mek me laugh ,even the devil lol at this trick ,
Next time Mottley open her mouth to talk she should think on these things
LOL Seriously and actually perched herself on the top pf the integrity pole, Really
Mottley on law and order,,
You have to give it to Thompson in that video clip, he was always a Hard Wood master.
ac……………..really? You have the nerve to use a clip from David Thompson to criticise other people, really.
A man who has been proven to be a liar, a cheater and a thief!
I decided to listen to this crook as I normally do not listen to any videos ac post.
What irony that a proven thief would be so hypocritical knowing at the same time he was thieving big money from CLICO.
What a lying deceitful biiitch!
Are we to take the word of a man as gospel, who has demonstrated during all his political career he is a fraud and a liar.
We can all recall the casino gambling deal with the Dutch company that Owen Arthur revealed during a budget debate; the secret deal the BLP allegedly had with the IMF that he could not bring any proof to substantiate his claim and fraudulent invoice (as revealed by the CLICO forensic audit) that helped Leroy Parris get $3.33M from CLICO.
Thompson spoke without bringing proof. However, an official authorized forensic audit revealed David Thompson for the crook he was.
With all these lies Thompson told, I’m sure anyone who is not deceitful have to agree the credibility of his character must be questioned.
Shiite, Hardwood Housing Factory????
Thompson talked about that saying someone has to pay. Since criminal charges were NOT brought against those persons whom Thompson tried to implicate or they have not seen any jail time, is evidence enough to indicate all his ranting and raving was just empty political diatribe.
If that dead crook Thompson, as a lawyer and knowing court procedures, had any proof of corruption against anyone, those persons would have been incarcerated all like now.
It was just another political bluff, because the proof of corruption comes when someone is actually “locked up in jail.”
It was amusing to see the DT post above and hear the crowd cheering on his full voice remarks about the Hardwood fiasco and corruption by his opponents.
It was sad to reflect and know that the cancer of corruption he attributed to others was coursing through every fiber of his body and would make that voice into a weak and feeble squeak signifying nothing.
It is hilariously to know that anyone can cite David Thompson as a voice of anything other than disdain and disgust on political corruption because it has been shown clearly that as PM of this country one year after this video was taken he fraudulently created, accepted and laundered a check of over $3 Mil from a private company.
Mr. Thompson said it right, ‘thief from thief mek God laugh’.
Not to be unkind to the departed but he certainly didn’t realize that the devil was really in the details and he would meet him soon enough …the Lord was laughing indeed.
As the others said above, the sheer nerve to bring Thompson to this debate!
ac July 1, 2015 at 9:09 PM #
“calling people low life and thieves does not make it so go bring the emperical evidence then talk. like the evidence in the video where david Thompson catspraddle all the shady dealings of the BLP….”
THE CLICO FORENSIC AUDITS AND LEROY PARRIS’ CLAIM THAT DAVID THOMPSON (THROUGH HIS WIFE) HAS TO TAKE SOME OF THE BLAME FOR THE CLICO DEBACLE, IS PROOF THAT THOMPSON WAS A CROOK. PARRIS BASICALLY ADMITTED THIS FACT AFTER THE LAW SUIT WAS FILED AGAINST HIM AND THOMPSON’S ESTATE.
IT IS ON RECORD THAT LEROY PARRIS ADMITTED THIS……………….WHEEL AND COME AGAIN.
Yeap and the point being which the yardfowls would not admit that the Blp moral authority is bankrupt in the same way they left the country on the brink of bankruptcy ,please pay attention. to your NOISE before YOU misfits and leadership open mouth to speak ,Hardwood is a truth which goes beyond the bounds of irregularities unbridled arrogance and fourteen years of corruption.Yet Mia Mottley and her goons want to be excused and all these glaring not simply allegations but revelations to be erased and replaced by the word CHANGE. Change to who and change to what,
De Word, during that time, Thompson promised a forensic audit into the Hardwood Housing Company project, but this never materialized. Hence, in the absence of this audit, those persons he accused of any impropriety were vindicated and his accusations can be dismissed as just empty political shiite talk.
Unfortunately for him, Deloitte actually performed a forensic audit into CLICO and it reveled Thompson was up pass his neck in financial improprieties. The fraudulent invoice was enough evidence to substantiate this fact.
The supporters of the DLP always allude to “truth” and “fact.” They could not want anything better to illustrate truth and facts, than the forensic audits.
The truth hurts no matter the source all that thompson said was truth and verifiable truth with stinging evedience which pointed right in the faces of the BLP party of which Mia is still a member and leader and who has aspirations and desire of wanting to become PM and never ever one day had the wherewith all and morality of conviction to condemn her party actions on those illegal and illicit actions but have kept her mouth shut in silence even at present time in her pursuit of becoming PM and wanting all and sundry to believe that her integrity is way beyond those illegalities which she was a party to in the fourteen years of governance ,
So here there is empirical evidence which points a direct finger into all the faces of the BLP party and which no member or even yard fowl supporter or foot soldier dare to challenge or deny, Yes in this case the evedience speaks for itself coming from a voice which cannot be silenced
“A lawsuit was filed in the High Court by judicial managers Deloitte Consulting asking that Parris, Branlee Consulting Services and the estate of late Prime Minister David Thompson who was the attorney for the company account for the money, noting that there was no resolution from the board of directors of CLICO International Life Insurance Company to authorize payment.”
After all the Hardwood talk, has a forensic audit been undertaken or has any law suits been filed against anyone? NO!!!
The mere fact the judicial manager filed a law suit against those persons named above, is proof that some shady deals were perpetrated.
So, all the post with Thompson talking a lot of political shiite (just like the IMF secret deal) and you have no proof that any individual was placed before the law court for any illegal activity, is just a lot of shiite.
If these accusations were true and Thompson actually had any (as you would write) “evedience”, someone would have been charged and brought before the law court, then you would have all rights to gloat.
Unfortunately for you, this was not the case, and all you are doing is posting Thompson talking shiite.
‘The more things change, the more they remain the same’. Yahoo tells me that was uttered by a Frenchman Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr and that it’s a bastardizing of the correct translation as ‘the more it changes, the more it’s the same thing’.
So, I wish Mia Mottley well because I wish my country well. She is much more intelligent than I would ever be and thus I expect her to be a proper and smart PM for the country.
BUT, many people said the same for Thompson back in 2007 leading into 2008.
Bushtea said above, “if Bushie could change …why not Mia? … Perhaps she has had her Damascus moment.”
Indeed we hope so.
We cannot withstand another PM who showed such absolute deceit to the core as did Thompson.
It’s amazing the similarities of these two protagonists…truly, frightful amazing.
“Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose”
