    Another General has taken office in the Republic of Nigeria today. This time through the electoral process.

    We join the BU nation in congratulating President Muhammadu Buhari and the great Nigerian peoples.

    There is little doubt that Nigeria faces immense challenges. As the largest nation in Africa, the largest economy and endowed with massive natural resources, Africans everywhere must come to look to Nigeria to set special marks. Including as an area to spur an African renaissance. Indeed, in recent years the county has moved from the second most corrupt country in the world to the 138. That’s good! But a long, long way to go still.

    This writer, in another capacity, has recently had an opportunity to speak to the person who was sworn in today as VP and am hopeful that those conversations will be made flesh.

    True, wisdom does come from many sources or as the Bajan saying goes, “Every fool got he sense.”

    Though I may not agree with everything the writer stated, I commented earlier this week that the masses of the oppressed people are engaging in a never-ending Cropover partying and wukking up, choosing imaginary escape from their situation rather than applying themselves to realistic means of escape. Have you noticed how every holiday is spent by the masses?

    In short they are all about entertainment of all forms and fashions. They party behind the truck all the way to the dump the rich man has prepared for them. Are they being manipulated? That’s how the advertising industry makes its billions. It’s not only black people who are being manipulated however, but every man on the street not chauffeur driven in his stretch limousine . Heck, they had me once but I got away!

    Media is the most powerful means of controlling people. Hollywood has for many decades collaborated to push a certain agenda and it is working.

    I go to Crop Over if I am on the island at that time. I enjoy myself without wukkin’ up, drinking to excess or gettin’ on bad. Don’t assume all that participate are not knowledgeable/wise/aware. Having said previous, I get your point.

    When I said never-ending Cropover partying and wukking up I meant year long. Entertainment is a necessary outlet which like all things must be used in moderation and should not consume every waking moment to the exclusion of all else. At some point in time one must leave the magic kingdom for the real world. I used to enjoy Cropover myself until it degenerated to the loud noise posing as music, the string bikinis posing as costumes and the simulated sex posing as dancing. I used to love the artists expressions of creativity but now every “song”, every “costume” and every “dance” is the same. You will hardly find me assuming things that make no sense, I assure you.

    Yes the African race has the greatest number of traitors and this didn’t just begin, this is one of the major causes for our “Fall from Grace.” This is historical. Our greatest powerful secrets were revealed to our enemies back in those temples and today they’re using those secrets (though perverted) against us. For eons the enemy has held us captive to trivialities such as his money, his education, his white god, his white ideas of development..all at the expense and sacrifice of our spiritual development. Take a good look at the Chinese, they were subjugated by the British,French, Germans, Japanese, Americans, Russians and did they roll over and die? No. They had an identity which allowed them to maintain a cohesive society in spite of struggle and look at them today. They didn’t do like the Black man and turn to the white god. They held fast to their ancestral worship. What knowledge they were able to glean from the pale man they used it to the advantage of their society as a whole. They didn’t do like simple black man who walks around with a degree on his sleeve talking about how educated he/she is. The Chinese see in WHOLES like the African societies used to view life, but since western Black man came into contact with the pale man, they’ve adapted his ways. So who’s gonna save us from ourselves? Will white Jesus return soon and save the Black man? Or should the Black man return to that which once gave him powers to communicate with the Cosmos and that which once gave his the ability to change his environment. Will he return to the Power of the KNOWING or maybe he prefers that nice, warm comfortable seat at Massa’s table in which the crumbs fall.

    Who exactly are you calling the white man’s god? Do you mean Jesus painted white? I am a Christian but even as a very young person I realized the distortions of Europeans. No way Jesus could have been the blue-eyed boy of the European pictures. It’s easy for someone with discernment to throw the dirty bathwater out while hanging on to the baby. I appreciate my African heritage and embrace my blackness even more as I age and can still stand to look at myself in the mirror. If the African ancestral worship had been so powerful then they would not have succumbed to the white man. Apart from their cultural expressions China can give the Europeans a run for their money in the destruction of the environment through industrial activity. They exploit the poor with the best of them and are as corrupt as the worst. The problem is simply – MAN!

    The existentialist philosopher tells us that we determine our own course in this life by the CHOICES we make. So with this perspective in mind, we are not fully conditioned neither are we determined as the author of the article seems to think. But we as a people must determine whether or not we will give into these conditions, or do we have the uncommon-courage to standup to them as a race of people. Blaming others for our lack of productive decision making as a race of people, is biggest escapism employ by those persons who refuse to look where the problem truly lies.

    If many of our race, the Black race, were thought about the struggle of a Thomas Sankara for example instead of the steady diet of what is North American, our outlook as a people would become more relevant. We are who we are influenced by our environment.

    Perhaps, I am wrong to suggest that I have never read neither have I heard that the Chinese were colonized by the Europeans powers as India, Africa and the islands of the Caribbean had been. So therefore, it is quite evident that China had been able to retain much of her cultural- identity because of the minimum influenced exercised by the European colonialist upon its territory.

    @Donna………….Who gave you Jesus? At what particular point in history did Jesus enter the picture? What was the name given to Jesus before the 15th century? You stated that you are a christian…show me a christian and I’ll show you a LIAR, HYPOCRITE, THIEF, FORNICATOR/ADULTERER, DECEIVER & DECEIVED…

    The African ancestral worship has not lost its power. What it has lost is its greater practice and interest of its children who’ve turned to christianity and countless other vices. When you enslave both the mind and body of a people, deprive them of the basic necessities for survival, bombard them with plagues, literally steal their knowledge and then burn their temples, how much more hardship can a people endure when you make their daily lives a literal living hell? What time do they have to practice their craft when they’re pre-occupied with survival. Ancient practises aren’t like Christianity where you just jump up and shout “Jesus, Jesus, the blood of Jesus” That won’t cut it. The Ancient practices aren’t something that you can just throw out there before the masses, that would be throwing “PEARLS BEFORE SWINE.” Today it takes a special breed to be entrusted with such high knowledge.

    Look at the Haitian Revolution. L’Overture Toussaint et the other General Desallines invoked the great Ancestral Spirits who did come to aid them and beat back the forces of the ‘great’ General Napoleon but look what happened when Toussaint turned his back on the Ancestral spirits and took up Napoleon’s invite to France. He rotted in Napoleon’s dungeon. What he did was tantamount to spitting in the face of his Ancestors hence he was left to his own demise. Look at Haiti today….still under that oppression.

    Are u saying that all China has to offer the world is cultural expression and destruction of the environment? If this is so you’ve just proven my point about the characteristics of a christian. The west constantly points out ‘China’s destruction/pollution of the Environment’ which can be cleaned up over time BUT what about the destruction of the Black mind? I think that should be priority for us because an optimal Black mind would be able to combat ‘environmental destruction/pollution.’ The west didn’t only destroy and pollute the environment they’ve done that to billions of human lives as well.

    I don’t know if you’re cognizant of the fact that Christianity was first introduced on the African continent in the 1st century? And I estimate that to be fourteen centuries prior to the genocidal colonialization of the people of African extraction. So in essence, the West African knew quite well about the White man’s God who sits high in the sky prior to his enslavement. So why is it then that some people who claim to understand African History, wouldn’t take the time to research the fact that the God’s of the White man found existence on the African continent prior to European Chattel Slavery? The fact that many believed that the God of the White man was first introduced to the African during his enslavement is one of the biggest misconceptions perpetrated by those who wish to construct African History to fix their particular worldview.

    All I am simply asking you regarding my question above is what does the term African intelligence really entails? In any event here is another important observation: many if not most people of African extraction seems to minimized the impact -which Islamic Slavery has had on the psychological development of the continental African. But somehow the people of African extraction seem to attribute or disunity as a race people to the historical effects of European Chattel Slavery- as though we are not self-determine and quite capable of uneducate and reeducate ourselves regarding this rather obvious reality.

    Your article runs very deep. It will deter many readers of this blog. Why? Because there are many of us who are deeply uncomfortable with our history. We would prefer to se promener in a dream world practising the religion which was handed to us by our European and Arab masters rather then confront our tragic past.

    Imagine a nation built on slavery such as Barbados where you would have to have the academic prowess of a PHD student in order for you to churn up information on slavery and how it impacted the island.

    The tourist will visit our beautiful plantation houses ignorant to the fact that they were death camps. You will be hard pressed to find a perfectly preserved slave house. Walk around the wretched island and you will struggle to find any information on slavery on the island.

    Neither does there appear to be any significant archaeological sites which informs afro- Bajans of their history.

    This contrasts with white Bajans. For example there is a grand church and cemetery on the island which is home to the Haynes family. A question that I would like to know is where were the many thousands of slaves buried?

    Good question regarding the burial of the slaves on the island of Barbados. That very question continually crosses my mind and I would be glad and I am quite sure many others here as well, to ascertain some feedback of this one important question. Now no one is claiming that Christianity was handed to the enslaved people on the islands of the Caribbean. What is at contention here is the fact that Christianity wasn’t a novelty to the African people prior to the European- Chattel Slavery, as some in the Caribbean and elsewhere seems to surmised. Nevertheless, it is yet to be determine as to whether or not Christianity had had a meaningful impacted on the Continental African, but it was certainly present on the African continent prior to the introduction of the European Chattel Slavery into Western Hemisphere of the 1500’s.

    The purpose of a good education is in my estimation to aid in the construction of the necessary intellectual-infrastructure -which invites critical- analysis, and yet we continue to blame others for our ill-education. Exclaimer, if you’re a free-thinker who is acutely aware of our ill-education as a people of color.Then why can’t those persons who traverse the halls of academia and who ought to be better informed than the common folk regarding this social-pathology, enlighten those of us who haven’t the necessary intellectual-insight as they do?

    Why not attack the validity of my statement with conspicuous and convincing evidence rather than hurdle a personal-affront? I do believe it to be true that Christianity was part and parcel of the continental African social environment prior the introduction of European Economic Slavery. Now if you have any information to the contrary, I am willing to entertain it, but thus far the history books seems to support my position. Do I believe everything that is written in the European History books? Certainly not, but I have had many discussions with several native Africans whom are well versed in this area of academics, and I have continue to hear the same reiterated theme perpetuated.

    You asked had I any evidence to support the existence of the 1st century, and my answer to your inquiry is this: only what the historical- record seems to authenticated. But it is interested to note that when free-thinker much like you yourself is bent on undermining the existence of Divine -Morality, you somehow resort to the Hammurabi-code- which by all intents and purpose preceded Christian-morality. Is there any such evidence to support the existence of such a code? But yet the atheist and free-thinker run with it like stolen bag of cash. Here is my final question to you Hopi: is there any evidence which would authenicate the chronology of the Pyramids in Egypt?

    I am not to concern about the White God because I have never perceived God in anthropomoric terms. But think about it pensively, unless God exists there is no eternal and transcending standard for right and wrong.     And perhaps you have missed the story in the Nation last week, pertaining to the slave burial ground at Newton in Christ Church.Unkempt, and visited by very few Barbadians, and not a single sign to indicate its location. A far cry from the nearby well signposted Clay Pigeon Shooting Club.

    I have travelled a fair bit and cannot think of another country that pays such scant attention to her origins and history.

    Our leaders fail to understand that history has a vital role to play in uniting and installing pride within the majority Afro-Bajan population. The fact that no effort is made to correct this discrepancy indicates to me that theyhave no intention to raise the consciousness of her people.     Congratulations on your non- christian perfection! I assume that since you are not a Christian you have none of these negative characteristics which you have attributed to us. And I guess the ancestral worshippers were all perfect before the Europeans introduced them to their white god.

    Some of those labels you pinned on me are indeed merited as I like all Christians admit to having sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. I have seen the error of my ways and I am moving forward, inching ever closer to what I was created to be.

    Without your ancestral worship I was able to see through the deception of the European as far back as my cowboy and Indian playing days where I saw the cowboy as the villain of the piece. George Custer the hero was also the villain in my rewritten history book and at school when asked who discovered the islands which now make up the Caribbean I always answered that Columbus made the islands known to the European world. I questioned the colour of Jesus’ skin and eyes and also that of the Egyptians.These things I did as a teenager. As an adult I reject this European based system but hold the Africans also partially responsible for the state of affairs. As for China, it has to offer just what every civilization has to offer. Chinese are no better and no worse than anybody else. The problem with this world plain and simple is- MAN! Red and yellow, black and white!

    It’s funny how Black people, in the West mainly, have frozen mentalities when we talk about ancestral worship. But when they are talking about their conception of religion and quote people in the bible a different type of mindset is in place, a slavish mentality. Those made-up characters, like the cousin of Michael Angelo, have truly propagated our minds for the spiritual destruction of the last 2300 years.

    It’s alright to see their White Peter, Paul, Abraham, and the lot as good ancestors but the real ancestors of all of mankind, the people who gave us ALL that we are, are to be mentally ostracized in favour of their beloved eurocentric idols.

    There can be no set of people, regardless to which book in which they are presented, that could be more important to this writer than ‘The Ancestors’. There will never be any sky god who could come before them, The Ancestors. There can me no god without them, for they themselves are God, The One and Only!
