Roebuck Secondary School Cancer Case: Nigel Marshall Makes an Impassioned Plea Before Passing

The mystery concerning what occurred at Roebuck Secondary is a question still to be answered. Many continue to beg government to release the environmental report which was conducted in the interest of satisfying transparency. BU posted the following request issued by the Future Centre Trust in 2014:-

Did you or any one you know attend the Roebuck Secondary also known as Louis Lynch Secondary? Do you know of anyone who died from cancer, suffering an endocrine disease or any mysterious illness who went to the aforementioned school? Please call the Future Centre Trust at 6252020 and leave your details.

Here is a reminder of the plea from the late former student Nigel Marshall who many believe died of cancer as a direct result of his long associating with attending Roebuck School.

    David, this is a troubling, tragic situation and one hopes that the courageous public appeal made by Mr Marshall will have the positive results of government action to address an obvious problem.

    Cases like this will only be won in the court of law because no sitting government ever knowingly validates liability in such circumstances. Of course, the question to be answered: is there an action for liability and if so who bears that burden?

    Certainly on the face of it there must be some underlying problem there for so many people associated with the site to suffer cancer related illness.

    An honest, continued thrust to understand and thus prevent any similar problems is imperative.

    Kudos to Mr Marshall (RIP) and the interviewing team.

    The question we beg to differ is why are our NGOs and other civil society advocates not vigorously agitating this matter. There is an insensitivity by the population which cannot be explained.

    Hi David, the Future Centre Trust has written Ministry of Environment on many occasions and never ever gets the courtesy of a response. We are at a cross road where government spends millions on education but don`t want an inquisitive citizenry. Perhaps Caribbean leaders prefer the African model of promoting illiteracy which leads to mendicancy and sheeple.

    The Future Centre Trust opposed the Waste To Energy Plant based on sound scientific evidence we garnered from international experts and its lack of transparency. My objective as Advocacy Director of the FCT gained me the privilege of a rebuke from Chris Sinckler using the floor of parliament Your own BarbadosUnderground has allowed us to be pointed in our reaching for answers out as mainstream media seems cautious not to offend.

    The residents of Checker Hall was visited on the Fugitive Dust PM2.5//PM10 and a complaint registered at Environmental Department who never returned our calls. I would never say the boss is arrogant and dismissive at EPD.

    If I ask what drilling method will be used by the offshore drillers with their checkered past I bet Peter Gilkes will want to know whats my problem and tell his friends I anti government. They say they will be using Huff and Puff onshore and no one deems it necessary to have a conversation with the residents because they sees us as sheeple.
    Unfortunately, bajans dont care if their water, land, sea or air is polluted unless it directly impacts them. Its called social apathy and selfishness!

    However, bajans will never change until we get them to analyze and think critically of the manipulative politicians. The political prostitutes who ill advise the ministers not to conversate. How do we will build an all inclusive Barbados when the views of the populace is ignored and dismissed.

    I watched Mr Marshall’s video recently and felt so sad. I remembered he was so concerned for his family. May he rest in peace!

    What we are having too much of in Barbados is nuff talk and ample disrespect from those we have entrusted our guardianship who will continue to treat us like sheeple.

    The building which carries the name of the last Mayor of Bridgetown (1962-1963) has been assigned to the group of many derelict government buildings within Bridgetown and St Michael,and the name forgotten. Will the one which now carries the name of the Viscount who served as Governor of Barbados from 1817 to 1820 suffer a similar fate?
