The DLP would like Bajans to believe that “the global recession” is the blame for all our challenges, but this is simply NOT the case, and a attempt to mislead Bajans.  The DLP cannot blame the global recession for the “RECESSION OF IDEAS, VISION, and LEADERSHIP” that has plugged the current DLP government and PM from day one.

In soccer when you keep passing the ball to a striker who keeps missing the goal, you don’t keep passing him the ball; it’s time to pass the ball of government leadership back to the BLP who can get Barbados back on track.

Below is the DLP report card on DLP manifesto promises which have mostly become all DLP failures:

1.      Lower the cost of living – “F”
2.      Improve access to property ownership – “F”
3.      Health care for all – “D”
4.      Education for the 21st century – “F”
5.      Family First – “F”
6.      Empowering our young people – “F”
7.      Enhancing the role of Women – “D”
8.      Treasuring our Elders – “F”
9.      Sports for All – “F”
10.    Social Security Improvements – “F”
11.     Making our culture work for us – “F”
12.     Hassle Free Service – “F”

Another key failure of the DLP as recently admitted by the PM himself has been their inability to have any positive impact on lowering unemployment in Barbados instead it has risen and is still rising.
If you think you pockets are empty now under the current DLP government, with 5 more years forget the “POCKETS” they coming for your “PANT”.

  1. @Austin

And you accuse others of propaganda?

  2. Oh WELL!

  3. @David

No propaganda is the soaring unemployment rate. Fact

No propaganda is how empty peoples pockets are under dlp government. Fact

No propaganda in our wierd and ineffective PM. Fact

No propaganda in failed tourism policies. Fact

No propaganda in failure to make goverment more tranparent

  4. Things are now better in barbados as apparently only poor and middle class people know and feel. 5 more years of stuart … we intelligent bajans dont think so ….

  5. The PM told the Barbados chamber of commercial he failed at improving our jobs situation which by the way obama improved in the US, in a recession in his first term.

I guess by bringing up PM’s from the past we are suppose to forget this dlp governments failures over the last five years … via the sympathy vote.

NO WE DONT THINK DO … WE DUM WID DEM

  6. Austin

If we are have a serious conversation about how we can do better in Barbados it cannot be your simplistic Which country in the Caribbean has reduced unemployment in the last 5 years? How many countries in the Caribbean have had to resort to the IMF for support? Do we import most of our energy (bar 1000 barrels of oil? Do we import 700 million dollars in food? Besides tourism and FDI what do we have? We know how the sectors we are dependent on have been struggling, read the UK market.

Put your points by all means but get serious.

  7. Where is the DLP list of accomplishments that does not include basic functions of a goverment …

The DLP bar for barbados gets lower by the day …

  8. @David

Barbados has always pride itself on being a leader in the caribbean. Where did that concept go.

The recession period is being used by other caribbean nations to reform and retool like grenada who is about to surpass us in ICT development.

We have totally failed the hotel industry in barbados by doing the same nonsense and expecting a different result.

    @ Austin

…the recession of ideas, vision and leadership..

Kind sir this is the bane of bajan politics for nuff years.

I think that in the same way that BU has a type of electronic register for bajan commentary each government department should have some electronic scoreboard that records what their targets are and gives them a score at the end of a fixed term.

Let thi old man explain. I am not computer literate so excuse me when I falter but suppose we were to focus on MTW. Their estimates and proved budget is based on a work plan. That work plan should have discrete components detailing programs which will be token down into inputs (materials, labour) and outputs.

At the beginning of a given year the PS & MINISTER should know the cost and the deliverables.

Mek dem publish it and like we had to gi we report card to we middah and fadder, let de general public see what progress dem mekking wid we taxes and how dem achieving dese deliverables and if dem effing up let dem have to show we whu dem doing for all dat money we paying dem as MPs.

I feel that the manifestos of respective parties trickle down to programs that should be viewable to each citizen in a cyberspace area where we the people can see if their manifesto was realistic, if they ever implemented their false promises and how they have been mangling sorry managing our taxes

The auditor general’s report is a historical document and only remarks on the infelicities after the fact. If they want transparency and accountability show us their work plan and progress report

But then again this is wishful thinking and the Alleyne Arthur White Rum has me in a stupor after last night’s customary drinking binge with *** (NB no ad hominem)

  10. @Austin

Do you know international lending agencies going back to 2006/7 have expressed concern about our growing debt?

Twiddledee and Twiddledum, how did we get here?

  11. Hi David,

You on song this morning….you like Pele !
A pity it took Austin’s palaver to jolt you into journalistic diligence.
Keep up the good work….King David .

  12. The recession period was a time for real budget and revenue reform … instead we got nothing …. no new ideas no innovative thinking, no leadership on key topics like those listed in your response..

Reforms where needed to get us back on track in 2008-2013 … nothing happened other then poor people got poorer … forget other nations we are a leading nation remember … lets lead ….

  13. @Austin

Maybe the DLP could have done better but all the recession has done is to expose our nakedness. We have been building our success on sandy foundation.

  14. @piecuhderockyeahright
I lking you more and more each post.

    @austin
Cuddear. F’s for property, health and education? You are being unfair. Good progress was made in these three areas all things considered.

If you wand to score points, drill down in the manifesto and give us a scorecard for each section.
    I.E. Education: 10/15 promises kept

Let’s keep it “fair and balanced”

Looking forward to the 2013 manifestos

    Just observing

    Good morning,
That last comment was yours ? I almost thought it was your wife’s comments…..while you were on a bathroom break !

    You’re not really a daft boy……….after all !

Move to top of the class with your A+ grade.

    Bravo !

  16. &David

We to a large degree have built our economy on sandy ground which the recession did exposed. ” I agree”

This is why REFORMS by the DLP from 2008 to now “was” so IMPORTANT. But instead f reform here is what FACTUALLY happen

From 2008 to 2013 the DLP has:
    – sold shares in BL&P to Amera of Canada
    – sold shares in BS&T to Neal & Massy
    – sold shares in BNB to Republic Bank
    – increased our national debt from “$5 Billion” in 2007 to “$8.1 Billion” in 2012, an increase of $3.1 billion in 4 short years
    – has taken our foreign reserves from US$2.8 Billion in 2007 to US$1.2 Billion in 2012, a decline of US$1.6 Billion in 4 yrs
    – has taken our unemployment from 6.7% in 2007 to 14% in 2012
    – has reduced the size of our economy by $500 Million in 4 years

All can be FACT CHECKED … Do these numbers matter ???? Of course they do.

These are the FACTS that internal and external Barbados inventors consider…. Should the BAJAN electorate ignore these FACTS due to a bunch of Errol Barrow posters (point made respectfully to great bajan patriot).

No David …. these facts matter

  17. @Austin

The DLP like the BLP and the DLP before and the BLP before have always been gutless when it comes to making the hard decisions. They are all in the business to win elections. Feeding the consumption model is the mantra of both parties. May God help us now.

  18. @David

I have to view it differently if not I would cry.

As a bajan patriot who puts Barbados first, its people first, our way of life first, preserving our natural beauty first, growing our middle class first …..

They honestly have been times across our history when a DLP government was “best” and times when a BLP is “best” … When it comes to the economy the “BLP is BEST” and what poor people in BIM need “NOW” is an improved economy hence the BLP.

A $500 million dollar reduction in our economy WILL become a $900 million dollar reduction if the DLP is given 5 more years …

then what, this is serious …. we cannot built a SOCIETY as the DLP likes to say without $$$$, hence an ECONOMY.

Unless the DLP is building a society of poor people ….

    VOTE BLP

  19. Hi BU fans,

I was presently surprised to find that Barbados is the home to GRIZZLY BEARS.

Please go to page 6 of the Barbados Advocate for the 1st February, 2013.

You will see a BIG FACE one……actually talking to human beings !

    Truly amazing !!!

This might sound silly but it seems like the elections date has caught the DLP by surprise. They are simply not ready. Imagine Dr. Estwick saying on television that he is a lawmaker and not a lawbreaker so he is not putting up any posters before Nomination Day because he would be breaching the law if he did. Which law is that? He should really be saying that the date caught him by surprise and his campaign material are not ready as yet. I would have more respect for him as a result.

By the way, did anyone see the PM paying in his deposit with the other DLP candidates who seem to have been caught flatfooted by the BLP deposit paying stunt? To make a long story short, Freundel is not with them. (The use of the present tense is deliberate)

  21. @Caswell

The point is whether he is with them or not by his action he does not feed the perception (perception is reality) that he is and this should matter to the DLP political strategists at this time, whoever they are.

  22. But he needs them, there is no one man government in existence, so how will he pull it off without making them all look like idiots?? This is what happens in a 2 party state with politicians knowing how to manipulate a people who are followers only.

  23. The PM lives in a “bubble” that he wants the bajan electorate to join him in …. A bubble that even those in his cabinet can’t enter …. Enuff of DEM

Every once in a while across our differences one can see that we pause and even with our political azimuths, one sees how the empirical fact that we are bajans exasperating over this tweedledeedee de dum pendulum

Cannon to the left of them, cannon to the right of them… no where to go but forward into the great abyss led either by We Going Wid Owen (of Alleyne Arthur fame) or Fumble Stewart (he who promises to singlehandedly give the reins of government to the Rumiel)

please do do think I am being disparaging about our once and future PM but I have been there during a few of his inebriation interludes

The apostle cautions us “a little wine for the stomach’s sake” but not the whole damn bottle

Ask not what Bim can do for you but what each of us is duty bound to do for Bim

Good morning Caswell good to see you are in fine mettle as usual.

A pity you did not follow your BLP people when they paid in their deposit…..and pay the Government of Barbados the outstanding sum of money your owe on the Government car loan. A sum that has been outstanding by you since David Simmons retired from politics .

Look forward to your legalese mambo jambo !

  26. The BLP 2013 election theme song says is all in true bajan style .. “POOR PEOPLE WE HAD ENUFF UH DEM”

  27. Told ya – ! – sounds a lot like Donville.

  28. Ha, ha, ha! The DLP ad says that Freundel Stuart is respected throughout the world. Which world? No one knows the man? The man only began to travel when he became AG and then PM. What world what, he is not even respected in George Street.

  29. Sure if you ask around the world who is F Stuart, they will ask, WHO???

  30. When did the DLP became aware that you are only a candidate after Nomination Day?

Did not the same Dr Estwick go on Brasstacks in 2005 and exploded when he was saying that DT wanted to de-select him and others from being candidates after he became President of the DLP? This was after the now PM unleashed a nasty 17 point indictment on the very same DT.

And to think that this same man, one Frendel Stuart now carrying on about some note OSA passed to him. Has he forgotten what he did to DT? That indictment was worse than any note OSA allegedly wrote to ask him to take MAM in the DLP!

Did not the said Dr Estwick behave so badly on Brasstacks that it prompted Sleepy Smith to call in and tell him that if he had his way, he, Estwick could never cross the doors of George Street again?

So it begs the question, what was Dr Estwick when he was fighting DT? Chopped liver???

Just asking! Politicians should have good memories to remember the lies they utter.

  31. Politicians never remember the lies they utter, cause such lies are uttered too fast and furious and way too many. On another note, it is a disgrace to see black lawyers in the year 2013 still prostituting themselves to gain a QC title.

  32. No worries, DT recommended himself when he became PM!

  33. @ Prodigal
I had a good laugh when I saw that ad purporting to big up Stuart as known and respected in the world.Which world?Marley Vale?Merricks?Union? That man has no following. Now if they had said that about Grantley Adams and Errol Barrow I can agree wholeheartedly. As a matter of fact Stuart is not even known as a lawyer of any quality.Maybe a dog case or a cuss case(Biswas) but nothing heavy like Henry,Bree,Johnny,Louis,Mia and those heavy hitters.Stuart will be laughed out of court.Known in the world? The world of ignorance and nonsense! The man is out of place even in Ilaro…

  34. That’s a good one, Gabriel. Ten marks! In fact lawyers friends of mine tells me he has treated the PM role just as he did in his legal life.. Never has been a lawyer of note!

  35. Thank goodness BARBADIANS have PM Stuart at the helm in Barbados. He is rspected throughout the corridors of the UN , CARICOM and within and without global states as a decent and honest human being.

The DEMS ad is a FITTING and TIMELY tribute to PM Stuart fine qualities.

The last BLP holder of the PRIME MINISTER post in Barbados was known throughout the world and Barbados as a :

    # PRIME MiNISTER who impregnated his secretary, Julie …..while being still married to his wife Beverley .

    # PRIME MINISTER who on official documents denied the child he had with this secretary .

    # PRIME MINISTER who attacked private and hapless citizens on the floor of Parliament…in a vicious INDENTURED SERVANT manner .

    # PRIME MINISTER who attacked journalists in a nasty NEGROCRATIC manner .

    # PRIME MINISTER who stole his BLP party funds by depositing cheques into his private accounts .

    # PRIME MINISTER that curse his female Ministers and female candidates while in and out the Prime Minister position .

We on BU site ….weep for those BEES supporters who lament the fact that they can never attach the words DECENT and INTEGRITY to any ad ….in any newspaper in Barbados or throughout the world….where the face of OWEN ARTHUR appears !!!!!

So SAD……but regrettablly so TRUE !!

Long live PM STUART…..a man of DECENCY and INTEGRITY !!

    BEES in 2013…..CHARACTER matters. !!!

  36. @!…….What about the PM who is an unwed father who NEVER married? At least the last one married the mother of his child. You what people suspect about men who is never seen in the company of the fairer sex.

  37. Let us ask a silly question. What is the delay is BOTH political parties publishing their damn Manifestos? Shouldn’t WE (the people) be given all the time possible to evaluate/discuss how they intend to govern Barbados? BU hope that this is not about upmanship?

  38. …………We on BU site ….weep for those BEES supporters who lament the fact that they can never attach the words DECENT and INTEGRITY to any ad ….in any newspaper in Barbados or throughout the world….where the face of OWEN ARTHUR appears !!!!!

We had a campaign from the DLP in 2008……….I will not lie, cheat or steal.

And what did we get……………the biggest liar, a fraud….the JM uncovered the evidence and the millions stolen from the policyholders!

  39. That is what we called “A BOSS AD” for the remaining of this campaign the BEES would never be able to present OSA to Barbadans not to mention the world is such high regard. OSA would always be rembered as cunniving and corrupt.

    Islandgal and Prodigal,

Let us accept the fact that our esteemed leader Owen Arthur have some flaws about his character like most other persons.

We MUST not deny that fact.

No use bemoaning that fact. Because to do so will only open up our leader to more virulent attacks.

Let us encourage both Mr. Arthur and Ms. Mottley at Haggatt Hall tonight to answer / deny the public charges the Prime Minister levelled at them Wednesday night.

That to we BLP comrades is more serious than what the two of wunna cribbling ’bout right now.

Doan let the DEMs trick we so. We well remember how they exposed the same Mr. Arthur in Haggatt Hall in 2008.

Let us set the record straight in Haggatt Hall tonight.

    Prodigal,
I recall David Thompson profession was a LAWYER , CLICO was one his clients. I would expect that if he worked for his client, that his client should pay him what ever is DUE .

I did not recall Owen Arthur profession was a BANKER , so tell us on BU why did Owen deposit a cheque from CarIbbean Commercial Bank (as it was then) into his personal bank account ? Knowing full well it was intended for the BLP !

That was neither DECENT nor of good INTERGRITY .

Prodiigal ….the opposite is called lack of CHARACTER .

Owen Arthur is a classless SCAMP !

That is a good ad the BEES can put in tomorrow’s Sunday Sun !
