The DLP would like Bajans to believe that “the global recession” is the blame for all our challenges, but this is simply NOT the case, and a attempt to mislead Bajans.  The DLP cannot blame the global recession for the “RECESSION OF IDEAS, VISION, and LEADERSHIP” that has plugged the current DLP government and PM from day one.

In soccer when you keep passing the ball to a striker who keeps missing the goal, you don’t keep passing him the ball; it’s time to pass the ball of government leadership back to the BLP who can get Barbados back on track.

Below is the DLP report card on DLP manifesto promises which have mostly become all DLP failures:

1.      Lower the cost of living – “F”
2.      Improve access to property ownership – “F”
3.      Health care for all – “D”
4.      Education for the 21st century – “F”
5.      Family First – “F”
6.      Empowering our young people – “F”
7.      Enhancing the role of Women – “D”
8.      Treasuring our Elders – “F”
9.      Sports for All – “F”
10.    Social Security Improvements – “F”
11.     Making our culture work for us – “F”
12.     Hassle Free Service – “F”

Another key failure of the DLP as recently admitted by the PM himself has been their inability to have any positive impact on lowering unemployment in Barbados instead it has risen and is still rising.
If you think you pockets are empty now under the current DLP government, with 5 more years forget the “POCKETS” they coming for your “PANT”.

  1. @ Well Well | February 3, 2013 at 10:19 AM |

Now why would someone steal the seismic data??? that if proven to actually be true would afford Barbados’ wealth and ability to pay it deeps and allow it’s citizens to live comfortably, if the proceeds are not stolen, for many generations to come. Are these petty thieves just simply retarded?? How does it look that it seems that the government agencies are just filled with self-serving employees who when they hear a million dollars would sell their mothers, wives, daughters, sons, grands. This is a disgrace that just seems to be getting worse……….

    Well, well,

To top it all off, the PM is now going to be brief tomorrow? Did this happen whilst he was asleep? It seems to me that this thing happened a little while now as the person resigned, it went through the channels all the way up to the GG who accepted the resignation, the person then wanted to rescind the resignation. There was time to render a decision that the resignation was accepted and could not be withdrawn, how comes the PM is only now going to be briefed on Monday?

Freundel were you asleep in your own ministry? And this is what the Dems call leadership? Oh my goodness!

  2. @ Prodigal
Call out ‘Leanne’ for what she is–a damn liar!! Just examine the story line: BLP supporter, government employee, firing, crying, free shirt, vindictive BLP and Owen.

  3. @Prodigal Son
“The DLP came in found a treasury well plenished ” – What planet are you living on?
This government inherited an avalanche of debts from the BLP:
    – a highway expansion that was started with no contract. (Imagine that)
    – 30 million dollars a year repayment for Dodds prison.
    – Roads which were dug up and started just before the 2008 election for which no provision was made in the estimates
    – the BDF pensions which was left hanging by the BLP
    – The bridging loan for the Judicial Centre
These are just a few along with the millions owed to Al Barrack. There were also urgent expenditure needs : (Joes River about to collapse) the infrastructure in St. Joseph and St. Andrew in urgent need of repair due to the laziness of George Payne and Dale Marshall, SSA fleet of trucks in need of replacement, the QEH needing electrical work and major investment of equipment and plant maintenance, a runaway Barbados drug Service expenditure and thousands waiting for housing solutions at the NHC.
This government had to push ahead against this backdrop and the deepest recession in our tourism source markets in our lifetime. The DLP has done well to ensure in that environment that our dollar was defended, our foreign exchange cover maintained and our safety net and social investments not decimated. This in an economy that was not restructured for 14 years while we rode a global tourism boom and did not prepare for the day when there would be a slow down. Bajans need to analyse this situation carefully.
Cartoons and free election concerts will not cause one tourist in recession hit England to come to Barbados.A return to the BLP is not the answer for Barbados. It would be a major step backwards.

  4. !
Why are you not at the meeting? Is it your job to stay in the George Street cesspool war room and attack every anti DLP blooger on BU? Get lost, you vermin!

  5. @ Enuff | February 3, 2013 at 8:55 PM |

    @ Prodigal
Call out ‘Leanne’ for what she is–a damn liar!! Just examine the story line: BLP supporter, government employee, firing, crying, free shirt, vindictive BLP and Owen…………………

    Enuff,
I was giving her the benefit of the doubt, even in this silly season and judging from the vermin coming on to BU.

I wondered too why would the friend have to say that she is a government employee. Has this ever stopped a government employee from wearing party colours? The Dems have a government employee running in St Joseph. Ronald Jones was a government employee, enough said about that!

The two Dems who were next to us, no one asked or said anything to them, they certainly did not feel threatened as they were shouting DLP, DLP when the MC asked who do you want?

What a world we live in! Do you want to bet that the person comes on BU later tonight and say that they went to the DLP meeting and they were not accosted!

  6. Prodigal Son wrote “vindictive BLP and Owen”

Not entirely truly. Mia is a BLP and she ain’t vindictive. She still showing Owen nuff love despite his unforgiveable assault on her character.

  7. UPDATE
9:30 pm @ Rices the crowd has arisen to 13000. And no artistes around. Only comprehensive policies and the way forward.

    OUTSTANDINGLY

Comparatively the BEES on a Saturday night with 26 artistes ……the crowd in Haggatt Hall was reported to be 15000.

    DISAPPOINTINGly

Think on this phenomena BEES !

  8. @Prodigal Son
Deal with the facts presented and in the world of technology we can be at the meeting and blog . No need to be so nasty. I presented the facts and you respond by cursing me. Typical BLP response just like how your party leader curses Mia Mottley.

  9. Why would it not surprise me if the Dems claim here on BU that they have 30,000 at their meeting? They are into playing people. Signs of desperation.

!, you dont deal in facts, that’s alien to you Dems, you deal in throwing muck and lies!

  10. Good thing the two parties have promised to keep it clean. Adriel Brathwaite taking a turn in Wood.

  11. @ !
Well done! Consistency must now be the key. Lol.

See if you can get Brekfoot Blp to follow suit.

    @david 4:54
    In a simple word. No.
I’m missing (in) the action. What was Adriel Brathwaite like? SPS is an important seat.

    Just Observing

  12. Observing; Adriel Brathwaite’s speech is on the DLP webpage videos. I haven’t looked at it yet. But will do so and report.
FS’s speech was excellent. A few witticisms, but was focused in the first part on painting the usual picture of Owen Arthur. There were a few descriptions of him that rang a bell mainly where he described Owen as leading by fear. The answer to that is that while that might be true, Owen also led by example, hard work and keeping in intimate touch with everything that was going on around him. He also did not appear to be someone who kept the fear going constantly. FS also intimated that the previous DLP prime ministers were unlike OSA and did not use the authority of the position to strike fear in the hearts of their Cabinet Ministers and others. That was not true. Barrow was no different to OSA in wielding fear as a weapon, as was Sandiford (a bit more circumspectly) and so too was Thompson. Indeed, FS tonight painted a far different picture of David Thompson, his friend, than the one which FS himself painted some years ago in his manifesto when running for some DLP position against him. This raised the spectre of innate honesty.

He also gave a few indications that he was an “I” man who thought very highly of his own worth and intelligence while disparaging others. I will look for that trait in other videos.

The strategy of concentrating on OSA and his presumed foibles might be a good one but as I said in another post many of the things FS said though they might have resonated with some (including me) does not paint the true picture of the man and in the battle of words where FS’ many recent shortcomings as a leader will be pitted against OSA’s, I suspect that many uncommitted voters might choose the tried progress of the OSA years to the lethargy of the FS ones.

FS also made some excellent introductions of David Estwick and Adriel Brathwaite, as well as some backhand slaps (of little substance) against Anthony Woods and Weir.

At the end of the first video there might have been some incident where the PM disappeared from view almost as if he had fallen down, but it wasn’t clear.

  13. Bumper crowd at Rices as Fruendel joked the BLP attended a Lil Rick and 26 artistes show at Haggatt Hall.

At Rices the only entertainment was muscle mary Barney, Owen, Lynette Eastmond, Wood and Weir. They were punished with laughter as speakers held them up to ridicule.Sincklair referred to Weir as Underwear!

The Bees may have counted eggs in fowl botsy hasitly as Owen is wont to do. The Dees coming hard their jingle by Biggie Irie is the bomb. The indepth reports and explanations on the economy by the Dems command attention. The Bees are yet to explain their plans for the economy apart for their universally rejected privatisation..

David, I am afraid (again from a tourism perspective) I don’t have much faith in Manifestos. Look at the eight stated objectives in the 2008 DLP Manifesto and ask how many of them have beem implemented?
The closest SOLE one, was a draft white paper.

  15. @Adrian

We will not get a dismantling of the system in the way Bush Tea wants, but we have to continue to scrutinize the output from the political organizations and others. Do everything possible to hold them accountable within existing frameworks.

  16. bees wunna think tonight at bay street the blp would give specfics about resolution for the economy. tired of hearing OSA talking about being Tested and in tried in the fatted times. somebody needs to tell him this is a different ball game and the policies of yesteryear not going to be helpful today althogh he blew all the opportunties given back then to restructure and put barbados on solid ground,

  17. @check it out
Much thanks. The DLP is taking a gamble by making leadership and party rifts the core message. Barbados has shown repeatedly that it is comfortable and even accepting of a less than virtuous leader, as long as he gets the job done. Stuart has shortcomings in the leadership arena, though he’s improved in the last 6 months. The DLP are perceived to still have issues in both these areas. In any caase, CLICO anti-dlp otes can easily erase any gains made by using this argument. It took DT 3-4 months to make hardwood/corruption stick before driving home the dagger. 16 days won’t be enough this time.

The economy is central, not because of facts and statistics, but because of “how it feels” personally. I thought a better case would have been made by specifically showing exactly how a next 5 years with the DLP would benefit us. That’s what people want to hear. The DLP’s already on the backfoot by having the many pie promises from the 2008 manifesto unkept and unexplained.

So far it looks like the Dems base v. the Bees base with the Bees making an effective full court press for the fickle vote and winning….so far.

The DLP has done well in its reports, but hasn’t “captured” people yet with its campaign. The BLP has run an excellent, strategic campaign so far and has a bit nore momentum. Manifestos aside, the DLP would need a visual head to head between FS and OSA if the leadership argument is going to stick and coattails are to help the 7-8 at risk candidates.. Not sure if they will take that gamble though. FS’ grasp of a wide range of specific governmental, financial and economic issues pales in comparison to OSA, despite being prime minister for 3 years.

    We’ll sEe.

    Just observing

  18. Observing; Good analysis. I agree fully.

  19. So Prodigal Son is telling me that the culprit stole the seismic data, that could guarantee future wealth for generations of Bajans, an act that would be considered TREASON in the real world, decides he is resigning his job through the GG, then changes his mind about resigning, events in my mind that constitutes a passage of a long length of time time knowing how slowly everything works in Bim. My question is, if I may, is why did we not hear about this THEFT before and why was the THEIF’S name not exposed in the press and with him in handcuffs? Why is the PM now being briefed and will it be another 10 years before one of the PMs make a public statement about the THEFT of state property?? And these jackasses think someone should respect them and the ignorance they all seem to encourage and cover up.

  20. Observing; I forgot to mention that in the same way that FS appears to be concentrating on OSA’s alleged foibles Barney Lynch (FS made a good offhand swipe at him last night) and OSA has to tell the story that has been captured in the press about FS’ abysmal results from his leadership style and his connections to CLICO, DT, Parris, Hal Gollop, etc., and link how that leadership style has resulted in several of his ministers getting away with murder (figuratively speaking only of course) specifically Jones, the commerce minister and Sinckler.

Lynch should be able to do that without getting into the gutter especially since FS is not there with him and OSA can handle FS’ shortcomings as well as the economy.

We’ll still have to wait for the pegasus report, the timing of which will be crucial, but if I have to bet it will be a dud since FS seems not to have mentioned it so far.

The season has been at par so far with nothing new or of significant consequence being revealed on either side. Two weeks and a half still to come in which the Poll will be done and poll results released. That could be the game changer or solidifier. Time will tell.

  21. still waiting to hear the specfics of THE BLP? TESTED AND TRIED IS NOT Enough much like insulting the intelligence of the electorate who wants to know the alternative .

  22. The quip of the night @ Rices , St. Philip came from a lady in the crowd.

When David Estwick reminded the crowd that Owen Pledge for 2013 was to put “money” into people pockets.

The lady in the crowd retorted ” fuh 14 years of Arthur I ain’t get none…..he put the money in GREENLAND and the BLP cheque in his PERSONAL bank account. Now if she and she family send a milk box a garbage to GREENLAND it cannot receive it. So why he want to come back ? ”

Those who heard her retort shouted…it is DEMS in the morning and the evening !

Owen Arthur is now caught like a RAT in a TRAP. PM Stuart again told the huge Rices crowd that ” Arthur wrote him as PM trying to sell MAM to the DEMS for 30 pieces of SILVER ”

It is the 3rd public charge from PM Stuart….OWEN cannot admit it or else the BLP 2013 campaign will end IMMEDIATELY !

Admission will confirm to the DOUBTERS that BLP UNITY………is just a fleeting ILLUSION !

Sing Biggie Irie….we voting DEMS now !

  23. The sheep mentality will not cut it when everyone except the politicians and their families start suffering from hunger. WHO TRIED TO COVER UP THE THEFT OF SEISMIC DATE FROM THE PMs OFFICE, WHO STOLE THEM AND TO WHOM WERE THEY SOLD??????????????????????????

  24. @ Observing,

the DLP would need a visual head to head between FS and OSA

Will the leaders and deputies debate face to face on televison rumour is Owen dont want to what is he afraid of?

  25. It must be said that if not for the 2.8 billion in reserves we would have been worst than JUNK status. This continual reference to recession is but a mere excuse for poor management. The BLP could talk about the many outside challenges they had while in office including the steady rise in oil prices to a record US$147.00 per barrel. However the problem with the current administration was the constant blaming and not taking responsibility. They failed to take the warning of OWEN of impending world economic decline and promised the world to Barbadians. They had a big fete up OIstins to fool the young people and got in. Then they started crying recession for every failed project or idea. They would not get on with the job but were on CBC constantly “LOOKING BACK”. They failed to inspired class leadership by the constant denial and blame. THE DEMS are like a man how marries a woman who came with good and bad and only wanted the good. She came with baggage that the man did not want to accept and likewise the DEMS did not want to accept when they married the country the baggage that came with that marriage. LOOKS like divorce is the what will happen and they only can blame themselves. By the way the woman thought the proposal and the marriage where a CONTRACT NOT an INTENT. The manifesto we are told was not a social contract but an intent…..I guess then that the people intend to DUMP DEM!

THAT’S A GOOD ONE FRACTURED BLP BUT LET ME GIVE YOU ONE I HEAR FROM A MAN IN POLITICAL DEBATE WITH HIS FRIENDS- IT GOES LIKE THIS ‘THEY SAY THE BLP THIEF FOR 14 YEARS BUT AT LEAST I HAD SOME OF THE TIEFING MONEY IN MY POCKET BUT THESE BUNCH IN TIEF BUT THE COUNTRY WORSE OFF AND I IN GOT NO MONEY IN MY POCKET. I VOTE FOR THEM LAST TIME BUT I THINK I PREFER TO GO ALONG WITH THE TIEVES BECAUSE I WAS BETTER OFF”

  30. Hi Balance,

You last comment was fine , however , the challenge Owen Arthir has is that he told Barbadians to BLAME him for the billion $$$$ wastage of his 14 in office.

Why bring him back after such squandermania ?? Not me…..and BALANCE would recognise that as a……BALANCED approach .

The BLP is doomed in this campaign. The election fraud on Saturday night will not cut it, people can see right thru that gimmick. The fact that the BLP needs to keep publishing their (alleged) numbers is evidence that they are desperately trying to jump start the BLP car which clearly stalled late last year.

Push as they might, it is not a genuine movement by the people, its optics, optics, PR and spin.

    it WONT work.

  32. I here dying with laughter hearing Freundel Stuart saying that he does not want to be a leader whom people fear.

Was that not the reason why the GANG of 11 met at a secret location to plot against him because they were afraid to talk to him face to face even after cabinet meetings?

He really had the nerve to say that EWB, Sandi and the dead king never ruled by fear.? He really is a sleeping lion in truth? He has never heard how EWB fired senators from under a street light, or the spite of a quiet Sandi or as the kingmaker said at DT’s funeral that DT preferred to clip off people’s wings for spite?

Freundel, we soon will see the back of you!

  33. Blance typical anwer from the BLP it is/all about their own self interst even if it meant “thieving” to do so. god dam shame……………….one another note OSA says he not making any promises .however MIA made some of her own like cut the vat “REDUCE ELECTRIC BILLS wonder who gonna foot the high defecit

  34. ‘You last comment was fine , however , the challenge Owen Arthir has is that he told Barbadians to BLAME him for the billion $$$$ wastage of his 14 in office.”
FRACTURED IF YOU HAVE EVIDENCE TO CONVINCE ME THAT THE PURPORTED WASTAGE BY THE BLP RESULTED IN ILLGOTTEN GAINS TO OWEN AND HIS ENTOURAGE, THEN BY ALL MEANS HE SHOULD NOT BE A MEMBER OF THE HIGHEST COURT IN THE LAND.BUT FRACTURED FROM ALL SPECULATIVE REPORTS, SIMILAR CHARGES HAVE BEEN LAID AT DOORSTEP OF MR MICHAEL LASHLEY, MR DAVID THOMPSON AND MR DENIS LOWE EVEN BEFORE THE INK DRIED ON HIS APPOINTMENT AS MINISTER.AND FRACTURED WASTAGE IS NOTHING NEW, I CAN POINT YOU TO WASTAGE UNDER DLP ADMINISTRATIONS HEADED BY OUR ILLUSTRIOUS FATHER OF INDEPENDENCE. POLITICIANS WILL MAKE MISTAKES, THEY ARE NOT INFALLIBLE BUT IF THE MISTAKES WERE MEANT FOR THE COMMON GOOD WHY BEHEAD THEM. SHOULD THE DLP NEVER HOLD THE REINS OF GOVERNMENT BECAUSE CARICARGO WAS RUN INTO THE GROUND BY THEIR HENCHMEN OR CARIBBEAN AIRLINES, SEAFOODS LIMITED, CARSICOTT, ENTERPRISE COAST GUARD STATION OR WARRENS CREMATORIUM RESULTED IN MASSIVE WASTAGE OF GOVT FUNDS. UNLIKE YOU, I DO NOT BELIEVE SO, I BELIEVE WHEN THEY INITIATED THESE PROJECTS THEY MEANT WELL.

WE TO LIKE TO COPY EVEN TO OUR OWN DETRIMENT.

  37. MR PRODIGAL, I UNDERSTAND THE WHOLE OF BARBADOS WAS EATING RICE LAST NIGHT IN ST PHILIP. WHAT SAY YE?

  38. I don’t understand why the DLP don’t seem to have any money to run their campaign.

We were told that the PM had the election date in mind from 2 years ago.

40,000 people normally vote for the DLP.

Suppose half that number were willing to give the party a lil’ piece ‘o change

Say $20 dollars per month, or about 66 cents a day.

    20,000 people x $20 per month=$400,000 per month

    $400,000 x 24 months=$9 million, 600,000 thousand

Plus interest a cool $10 million or so. Enough to run any political campaign, without being beholden to those who claim to be rich, but who are in fact only big thieves and tremendously damaging to any party.

The party which uses this formula, that is ordinary amounts of money from ordinary people will will the election.

  39. @Balance “TOURISTS COME HERE TO DRINK OUR MOUNT GAY AND BANKS BEER AND LET OFF THEIR STEAM.ARE YOU GOING TO BREATHALYSE THEM TOO?WHAT EVIDENCE IS THERE ANYHOW TO INDICATE THAT THE 30 OR SO ROAD FATALITIESWE HAVE EVERY YEAR ARE AS A RESULT OF DRINKING AND DRIVING.”

The tourists are brethalyzed in their home countries and won’t object to being breathylyzed here.

The tourists mostly take taxis, or perhaps have designated drivers.

We don’t have the evidence because under our present laws we have no means of collecting it.

Wait until a tourist, especially an American tourist is killed by a drunk driver, and that tourist’s family decides to take us down to the wire.

It gine be cat piss ‘n pepper.

And we won’t be able to say we were not warned.

  40. I would be fearful of a leader who appears to or pretends to not know what’s going on in his office or pretends to not get daily briefings. I won’t trust that one at all.

  41. The DEMS talking bout Haggatt Hall Party and got a big party for Passage Road…well..well! Trying to fool people again…..
