Second BLP Talkback next weekend (17 Nov 2012)

The recent debate public forum style, on Saturday at Springer Memorial School, amplifies what we most feared. Barbados is at a cross roads. “The outcome of the next general elections will decide our fate. We will either continue nonchalantly or dare to make difficult decisions“…

Barbados of past, has shown the international community through its sustained economic prudence and masterful sound principles in governance, that it was once worthy of the name Gem of the Caribbean. This economic prowess which was conjured, was matched only by larger Caribbean countries the likes of oil rich, Trinidad and Tobago, and bauxite laden  Jamaica and Guyana.

Likewise were its leaders, who played the most important part of steering the ship through rough and uncharted waters, always fighting to find dry harbour and never abandoning ship nor crew.  We were fortunate to have  had the foresight and guidance of many great men and celebrated astute leadership.

Prime Ministers were looked up to for advice and direction in times of chaos. One could rest assured with the country in the hands of such men, that there would always be a solution to a problem, and  that decisions would be made for the benefit of all and not for the indulgence of a greedy few. The country was always put FIRST. There was no need for Integrity Legislation nor commissions of school inquiries, as with things today.

Oh how much things have changed. We were accustomed to protection from the ‘adverse’ with their stealthy and sordid plans, many times to disadvantage, for own fortunes and egos. With our leaders then, we could always rest assured, that they would be right on hand to deal with the rapacious, restoring peace and order to the country and all.

Certain recent developments have shown we have taken the wrong path with scant regard for our laws, by offenders to suit ‘their own ends‘. It is most unfortunate when people in high echelons (who should know better) are culpable. Rather than going forward with high expectations, we are now in a state of  regress, entertaining obvious transgressions and without remorse. Barbados is at a cross roads.  From here on as once put forward,..“ we either sink or swim. “ Time only will tell. Harsh decisions are before us, some that cannot be put off without fixing head on or side-stepped

  1. The BLP had the DLP reeling on every issue of national significance, to the extent that it appeared that the DLP would be losing the next general elections. Then up comes an overconfident set of BLP clowns and articulated a strategy for privatisation that scared the hell out of the average voter. All of a sudden the DLP started to look viable again and in rushed Sinckler, who took of his shoe and planted his foot firmly in his mouth by declaring that there is no philosophical divide between the two parties when it comes to privatisation.

The DEMS needed a platform that would scare the electorate into voting for them. The BLP privatisation plan provided all the ammunition that the DLP needed. Sinckler’s intervention in the debate has put the advantage back into Arthur’s court. Some of you criticise me when I call Sinckler stupid: let me apologise to you, that was a bright move.

The author of this post is right about one thing especially: politicians of older days were more committed and intellectually superior. Look at who is vying to lead this country: Arthur is shedding grey matter; Mia’s grey matter has holes; and Sinckler’s is bleached. This country is really lost. Common sense seems to be uncharted waters for both political parties. I can only surmise that when the good Lord allowed this parliament to be elected: he was punishing us. He did not send a massive storm: he sent these politicians that have proven to be far worse.

  3. @ Caswell
Not all Barbadians are that stupid….what was put forward were OPTIONS, hence the town hall meeting….No one doubts the word Privatization scared those who were unable to conceptualize an opportunity for ENFRANCHISEMENT ….Tell me what is so wrong with 2 drivers putting together to OWN a bus?….owing their means of EMPLOYMENT?..and someday (like the mini bus men)maybe able to buy TWO MORE? (the most beautiful part was the financing support that would be coming, but we still coming)…..Now that is a MUCH GREATER OPPORTUNITY ..that working for somebody on an 8.00 to 4.00 Job, not knowing when a green slip coming ….but only forward thinking people can see beyond a today’s pay pack…and sadly the DLP again, deluding the poor man, encouraged and fueled adverse thoughts FOR THEIR OWN AGENDA….SHAME on Dem again…..Was it not EWB legacy also to enfranchise? ….

  4. Onions

You seem to miss the point. The BLP was on a winning trajectory: they confused the issue by getting trapped in the privatisation debate for which they were clearly not prepared. Trying to grab everything away from the DEMS is the main reason why the BLP is in opposition. You remember the politics of inclusion: Arthur grabbed away all the disgruntled DEMS and allow Thompson to rebuild without distractions. If Arthur weren’t greedy, he would have left them in the DEMS and they would still be there disrupting their party.

The privatisation debate was similar. That debate was the albatross around the necks of the DLP, but the BLP wanted to show that they could do everything better and removed the albatross from the DEMS necks and put it around theirs.

I do not think that everybody in Barbados is stupid, just that there are a disproportionate number in politics.

  18. The most well-known mention of the fable appears in Horace’s epistle on The Art of Poetry.

And don’t start like the old writer of epic cycles:
‘Of Priam’s fate I’ll sing, and the greatest of Wars.’
What could he produce to match his opening promise?
Mountains will labour: what’s born? A ridiculous mouse!

    LOL

  20. Hamlet:
There’s letters seal’d, and my two schoolfellows,
Whom I will trust as I will adders fang’d—
They bear the mandate, they must sweep my way
    And marshal me to knavery. Let it work;
For ’tis the sport to have the enginer
Hoist with his own petard, an’t shall go hard
But I will delve one yard below their mines
And blow them at the moon.

  21. Onions,
Unlike what the above article says, we are now convinced that it is indeed YOU at the Cross Roads.

We all notice that since the BLP big blunder on the privatisation issue….your call for general elections have become less pinpoint.

A few months ago you were giving us the exact date the PM had to call it…according to your analysis.

Now not surprisingly…..yuh begging him to call it.

It was always PM Stuart call….not yours !

Let me tell you this yuh BLP minnion….no damn elections till Owen Arthur call the long promised meeting PAC by 31 Jan 2013.

If he fails to do so by then, we in the DLP will help the Barbadian citizens connect the DOTS….just like we did in Haggatt Hall in January 2008.

Here are some clues to look for:

    1. Arthur’s attempt to LIE his way out of Dodds Prison decision. WHY ?????
(There was private sector interest there)

    2. The Bridgetown Marina Project started under Arthur’s gov’t.
( There was private sector interest there)

    3. Why has Arthur backed down from calling the PAC meeting on point 2 above as he THREATENED to do ? WHY ????

WHAT ARE THE CORREALATION BETWEEN THE 3 POINTS ABOVE….and ARTHUR’s obsession with PRIVATISATION ???

You have a date to work with…..31 January, 2013.

  22. @ Fractured BLKP

CRASS…full stop. Just like this call, just on the aftermath of the solemn of solemns…YOU ALL just stuck wid a FISH CAKE in the throat…..If you all had something worthy of presentation….the kite would not be flying with ball at ends….SAD PART IS….wanna still scared STIFF to call it…..so much for confidence and conkies…FEAR MEKK A BIG MAN SSSH himself beware ! 25. onions you talking more shoite more often than usual what you hiding ? Joey and Peter busy with yarns why is Owen quieter than a church mouse. What gives?

Methinks the BLP nervous franatic to figure out how to spin their privatization manifesto away from what Bajans know will impoverish public servants , boost unemployment handing the business elite billionaires in the private sector a windfall of assets strenghtening their strangehold of the economy.

  26. @ DLP Luver of Country
How DARE you mount the name of such notable generals….with that of MOB Saddam…..this is no black bird broth we boilin….

  28. DLP beware……aliens landing….not a good sign

  29. Onions the game is up. Your BLP leader has credibilty issues. Your friend Miller recognises this and left you to battle a loss cause on this thread !

  30. Miller right here Bredds…..so little do you know…..beware of aliens and boar cats in suits….lol

    @ Fractured BLP | November 16, 2012 at 9:08 AM |

I believe the leader of the DLP not only has credibility issues but also competency issues.
When the PM renounces his open support for Leroy Parris, officially declares in Parliament his administration’s commitment to repay the CLICO policyholders at least the promised principal amount of their investments, pay Al Barrack his court awarded settlement, fires Darcy Boyce, Denis Lowe and Michael Lashley from his Cabinet and spearheads the passing of integrity legislation before year end then both his integrity and competency would be up for favourable consideration.

  33. Onions you up a creek without a paddle on this one !.

Owen Arthur has been unmasked once again….and just like HUMPTY DUMPTY ( his Kingsmen like Onions ) cannot put him back together again .

You like to use the word CALL…..tell Owen CALL the PAC meeting .

  34. Fractured Blkp
Why then call Owens Bluff……Call UM….I stand by what I say….not like a posing Boar Cat in a suit….MEOWING and cata-wowling….and nothing more……if the people see sense in 5 yrs of MORE PAIN and non directional Leadership, they will so speak….WE READY TO PUT THEM TO THE TEST….Are you ?

  35. @OOB
In all of this experience of a government ‘coasting’down the hill, the reserves might be reduced to the dreaded imf prescriptive dosage by the time we learn if we will continue with the same slippery slope folk or whether the other people will return to the crease to do battle once again in the name of the governed of bubaydus.

  36. Only yesterday at this LATE HOUR…could one imagine these inept lethargic souls called DEMS….wanted to RUSH THROUGH legislation in the Senate, drafted since June 2o11…..to offer more enticement for International Business Companies (off shore business # 2 Revenue earner)FROM LEAVING AND GOING CAYMANS…… TELL ME HOW IN ALL LOGIC can we keep these Huffs ? Question begs… How much more could of that 12 Billion now lost could have been saved…if not for SERTA’s counters of sheep ?

  37. Onions
Privatization is not the real killer although it just stab yah.

It is the reckless policies of give back put forward by Owen Arthur and unraveled by Professor Howard and Ryan Straughn that is going to kill you.

You have started to back peddled like Peter pole Wickham (Richard Hoad gave him that name). Today he said that the privatization talk hurt the BLP.

How come Mia and Owen are not going to be there to discuss cutting the vat and giving back allowances? I am going to be following the live stream. Last time I watch it and only 83 persons were following it online .That is a minuscule number of followers on the World Wide Web.

  38. @Fractured BLP

Ask onions and Miller what agreement was signed with the artur govt and the lending instituion as regards the aurport for a measerly loan of euros 28m and the end result the project cost about 116m or thereabout.

  39. Clone
Don’t change the subject…tell us why this piece of Legislation took so long to be dealt with ..with utmost urgency….tell us why? Is it a case of Georgie Bundle also a sleeping giant? Tell us why?…IBC’s are our number two revenue earner….why the long unnecessary wait.?…so how come they could now find favor to send it thru? Kerri Symmonds was right….this is AWFUL.

  40. @Onions

Tell me why PAC has not been convened?

  41. Which is more important NOW ? PAC or $$$$ to save this country? Get sense boy …my ole headmaster used to say…zipper down

  47. @Onions

I dont have to lose my kool, and my question still stand why owen did not call the PAC if he perecieved that there is was/corruption that can save this county millions? It is because that Owen forgot his role as Chairman of Pac. U need to wake him up .
