I saw on the Toronto CP 24 News last night, the Barbados Fire Chief accepting a donation from the Toronto Fire Service of used fire-fighter protective clothing and equipment. As a proud Barbadian who has always considered us as a leader among the Caribbean nations; could not help but think. “Is this what we have come to”?Don’t get me wrong, it is good to see the recycling of good equipment that otherwise might have just been dumped, but I could not help but feel that, have we reached the stage that we have to go with hat in hand looking for hand-me-downs to supply our fire service. Most Barbadians do not consider themselves as Third World yet why does our government let one our most important public service branches be treated as such.?

Maybe I am just a little too PROUD of our PROUD little nation.

The information was posted over at Barbados Forum. For some reason the message by the poster, who appears to be a Barbadian living in Canada, conveyed sadness. BU has interpreted the last sentence of the post which the poster highlighted in the colors of Barbados to mean that his pride as a Barbadian was dented after watching the broadcast. To be honest in the BU we feel the same way in the BU household. Barbados Fire Chief Mayers, if you have to accept the old equipment then do it away from the public glare.

 

What is the message which our leaders are sending? We spend millions on a multiplicity of project but we have to accept “hand-me-downs to supply our service.”

    Hold Ya Man Socialist, Hold Ya Man. I feel like a little socialism in my soul this morning because I want to make an announcement. There is a book name ESSENTIALS OF FIRE FIGHTING, the 5th edition. I believe every member of BFS should get a copy. Source it through the BOOK SOURCE Welches ,St. Michael or Amazon. That is the bible of fire service duties, I recommend you guys read the book from front to back, chapter after chapter, its going to take time but it will leave you with a wealth of information that no one can control or deny from you. If you come across a chapter which needs a little more explanation go to youtube or wikipedia.com or ask one of the fire service instructors (dem dont bite) because I hear them using this book in them courses from FIRE FIGHTER 1 but 4th edition.
    I aint wake up in no mood for war but as Jamaicans say “i boning fire pun wanna officers” .Now I have many friends from all walks of life and I did my research before I talk. The RBPF invited you all to an arson investigation course last week and you officers run and gone up there not knowing knowing what to expect. I got news for you officers because I hear gazetted officers always attacking NCOs and privates for not utilizing the training unit and the instructors.
    This is the shocker, the same instructor whom you all went up by RBPF and smile up at and idolized did the same exams as your five INTERNATIONAL FIRE SERVICE TRAINING ASSOCIATION (IFSTA) trained instructors we have in our department. YES He is no more qualified than they are. As I sometimes say socialist is a little too radical and dramatic for the BFS but he said one thing that true, some of you officers need to experience what it feels like to be in a jail cell for a couple of months. You try to f–k up and do all types of wicked things to your own but you respect and kiss the asses of foreigners and outsiders. All who read this comment ask them about the level of hypocrisy them showing the young minds.

    @ Socialist … This may seem like a shock but I gun show you I got balls. I am very sorry for personally attacking you,it was a spur of the moment something cause i know you mean well but may got an unusual way of showing it.I will ignore Wright. B. Astard for now and speak about issues.
    I heard the press conference at 1100hrs today from Dottin,I started to cry like a lil bitch.You know what hurt me the most,to see the public cutting we ass and no one from admin came to our rescue and said someting to shield the attacks and threats against us.Commissioner Dottin in the press briefing defended us by trying to sway the blaming of external departments,he defended us to his best.He showed compassion on us and cared bout the firemen more than them dogs in them offices dat just drawing a salary.All dem doing is demoralizing,victimizing,being parasites on our hardwork. This is not a personal attack but the CFO(1) lied to the 300s(2) skinning he teeth at a scene of carnage,lies lies lies and more lies when will they stop.It looks as though the best thing he can do is manipulate promotion.

    Its raining outside. Cant wait till I on holiday again from this stressful place, promotion in de air and that makes it cut-throat season take my advice keep out dem way. Cant wait till vacation, I going vincey land and go on a smoking spree,too much weed cant smoke all. Anyway I hey wid ah 1/4 ounce of Bajan green in my bed on the net and getting red.

I had many drug test and trick all of them.Young coconut water,mosquito bush and green tea does the trick.I dont drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes and got low bodyfat.Pharoah I got someting to tell ya.     I in a state of mourning but I must say this. It was drawn to my attention that a firewall was installed by the IT unit stopping access to social and streaming networks such as Youtube and Facebook.

    Well I am not surprise because the powers in charge of these units are capitalist minded people and capitalist do these things from time to time. However, I do not think it is fair to the BFS members to be treated this way.

    The BFS members can bargain with the Social club to have them ask for permission to install a separate internet line at the stns . Let the IT unit keep their internet and stick it where the sun don’t shine.

    To all members who feel as though they have been victimized by this cruel act,we can protest this in a peaceful and diplomatic way. Just remove yourselves from the BFS owned social network too by sending future emails to your junkmail ,yes I mean the ‘Bajanfirefighters Network’ . We cannot view emails and use social networks at work so I don’t think it is wise to view Bajanfirefighter network at HOME when we can be doing something better with our time like going on facebook or watching a Youtube video.

    I would like to send my condolences to the Thompson family. It really hurts when you not only see him as a Prime minister but a human being, He was someones father, son, uncle, husband , brother and friend. So sad

    I must apologize for PART of my comment on 24th Oct 14:07hrs where I blatantly spoke out of term and protested us deleting Ourselves from the Bajanfirefighter network. Ignore my radical approach because I was unaware that the two entities (BFS and Bajanfirefighter network ) are completely separate. The Bajanfirefighter network is a Private network designed for us by us.
    After the hostile tongue lashing I have just received from some of my socialist elders and followers I must say I am truly sorry for attacking the Bajanfirefighter network.
    I still do not support capitalist behavior or victimization and what the unit did to the BFS members.
    They can continue to burden us with cruel or unjust impositions or restraints, but they cannot break us because we are a free people.

I agree with you 100%, what those power hungry terrorist did to the guys is not good gesture and it is a sign of the worst is yet to come. Like socialist I do not attack people or gossip, I talk about the system. These IT terrorist must realize Jah is not a mock man and mortal man can do what he likes but not as long as he likes.

    The part of the video with Ryan Brathwaite holding up his shirt with the word ‘Barbados’. That was very touching and patriotic. The song is even more devastating. I cried til snot came from my nose. Can you believe I watch the funeral and didn’t shed a tear until I watch this video?
